The defending Class AAAAA champion Brookwood boys improved to 12-0 with wins over No. 1-ranked Alpharetta and over Berkmar. The Broncos, ranked No. 2, are led by No. 1 singles player Mark Guentert, No. 2 Drew Wendel and No. 3 Ryan Pridgeon, the No. 1 doubles team of David Brown and Matt Jones, and the No. 2 team of Jody Chan and Anarin Montroy. Guentert is ranked No. 18 in 18s in Georgia. Brookwood’s match with Johns Creek, the No. 1 team in Class AAAA, was rained out. . . .

The Gainesville boys and girls defended their titles at the Hall County Championships at Royal Lakes Golf Club. Gainesville was led by medalist Parks Brown, who shot a 72, and won by three strokes over teammate Grant Lasseter and Eric Little of Flowery Branch. Gainesville shot a 299, beat North Hall by 18 shots and became the first school in the history of the tournament to break 300. The girls shot a 158 and scored 12-shot win over West Hall. The Red Elephants were led by Morgan Reece, who shot a 78.
Expectations are high at Callaway, favored to repeat as Region 5 champions. The Cavaliers feature seniors Clint Putnal and Taylor Pike and have set a goal to finish among the top ten at the state tournament. . . . The 10th annual Granger Invitational will be held Saturday at Highland Country Club in LaGrange. Dunwoody is the defending champion. Former winners include Columbus, Darlington, Northwest Whitfield, Starr’s Mill and LaGrange, a three-time champion.
