Class AAAAA roundup

In a wild Class AAAAA second-round playoff game, the North Cobb Warriors overcame a nine-point Stephenson lead in the fourth quarter to capture a 60-57 victory. Guard Lee Moore was clutch when it counted most, scoring 15 of his game-high 25 points in the final period when he was also 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Guard Saxon Steele added 13 points for North Cobb. Derek Harper led the Jaguars with 20 points before fouling out. The Warriors will face Savannah in the quarterfinals on Saturday at Fort Valley State University.

Alpharetta 80, Peachtree Ridge 69: Ty Toney hit 17-of-21 free throws while pouring in 36 points for visiting Alpharetta. Carlos Burse scored 25 points and went 3-for-5 from behind the 3-point line. The win put the Raiders in the state quarterfinals for the first time.

Harrison 63, Valdosta 51: The visiting Hoyas relied on double-digit efforts from three players to defeat Valdosta. Guard Ryan Blumenthal poured in 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Jeremy Presley had 11 points and Marshall Guilmette added 10 for Harrison.

M.L. King 77, South Cobb 61: Senior forward De’Aires Tate had a game-high 19 points and 13 assists for M.L. King. A pair of sophomores, Paul Jackson and Greg King, both scored 13 points, and King grabbed 11 rebounds.

Savannah 66, Westlake 64: The Lions led 37-22 at the half, but Savannah clawed back and grabbed its first lead of the game with 6:40 remaining. As time expired, Naquan Chisolm scored after an offensive rebound to clinch a Blue Jackets victory.

Congratulation to the Coach Tim Jordan and The Savannah High Blue Jackets for doing what so many people said that we could not do. Everyday I see post on AJC about Savannah school play in the weakest region in 5A. It don’t matter how weak people think this region is down here when you have 12 talented kids like savannah high do and one of the best Coaches in Georgia in Tim Jordan anything can happen at any given time. Our kids play AAU Basketball with these same top players that comes from North Georgia so we see talent like this all the time. Congratulation Savannah High Blue Jackets Job well done. PS I think AJC need to re think the final polls top 10 in 5A Savannah High has to be in the Top ten 27-2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ben, I follow ladies basketball from Cobb County and for the second year we have four teams in the final eight and the ajc only has two of them ranked. You will get your chance to prove what you have this weekend. May the force be with you and you will get to see Cobb County mens and ladies teams take over South Georgia on Saturday.

@Benjamin, and Westlake was ranked #3 in the state, knocked off by unranked Savannah with only 2 losses. any misinformed individual who thinks the region is weak should come down and actually watch some games in the area. the game should not have even been close in the end, Blue Jackets just kept missing their free throws

tarhills I keep hearing the same thing over and over again how many Atl teams do we have to beat to prove what we have. Was last night not enough from my understanding AJC says the westlake played in the toughest region in GA and that Savannah High played in the weakest region that should say enough right there. Westlake only lost to one GA team all year. Regardless of what happen saturday I think Savannah High already prove enough. @ Johnny Too Good you are right we miss 4 free throws in the last 1min. of the game that could have ice it. Westlake had the best player on the floor in Tony bagats but Savannah High had the best team and the best coach. Looking forward to saturday Fort Vally here we come North Cobb better not take us for granted.

Region 4 is the SEC of girls basketball in Georgia. 4 teams 2 years in a row make the Elite 8! Shout out tothe North Cobb Lady Warriors, McEachern Lady Indians, Hillgrove Lady Hawks and Harrison Lady Hoyas. We should save our gas money and just play at the Cobb Civic Center. lol

It is a known fact that Region 4 is the hardest region in the state of Georgia for lady basketball. Yet all 4 of the teams, have reached “Elite Eight” for the second year in a row, just to play each other again. Congratulations to them, a true tradition in Cobb county. AJC u need to rethink your top ten teams.

What kind of respect you looking for, HENJAMCOL? I don’t see anyone on here slighting North Cobb…they’re playing good ball but it just hasn’t been against the strongest competition. Enjoy being the underdog…keep winning and the notice will come with it. I’ll be pulling for the Warriors on Saturday, right after the Lady Indians go at it with the Hoyas one last time.

@ Columbus, Ga Fan club of SHS I want be surprise if Savannah High wins it All but AJC will . Savannah High has 12 players who could start on any high school in GA AJC just dont give south school no credit. After Savannah High beat westlake I thought that would change but I guess not its all good.

What most folks across the state don’t realize is the Savannah schools are playing in the 5A classification, when they should be playing 3A. Savannah High has an enrollment of less than 750 students, and still beating schools with 2K plus students. Pound for pound Savannah High is the best team in the state year in and year out.

BHS, Not sure what you mean in regards to excuses. I don’t recall making any excuses. I simply stated that for the second year in a row 4 Cobb girls teams made the Elite 8 and traveled 2 hours from home. Gas prices being the way they are we could have just played at the up the street. LOL It was actually more in jest than anything serious. This aint nothing to get worked up about, just some healthy conversation..
