At least 4 teams ranked in the final regular season Top 10 are no longer playing but unranked Marist is in the Elite 8. Three of the Elite 8 teams are from Region 6 and 4 Regions have no team still playing . There must be a story here somewhere.

6-AAAA and 4-AAAA Region each have three teams in the Elite 8. Metro Atlanta is dominating basketball like did football.

Many people have a problem with identifying hot beds of talent. There are other areas that have an up-start team that makes a lot of noise for a little while but there are program’s that have a long history of being competitive on a high level. This is what you find in the Southern Crescent. Metro Atlanta high school sports are covered by name association. Well known names of the bigger counties draw attention from the press and the rest of Georgia does not find out about these other’s until they upset the bigger names. This holds true for both major high school sport’s, Basketball and Football. From what I understand, the AJC and many other officials in certain area’s of government consider everything south of the Airport as non-local. It is, the airport, considered the line where population counts are measured and this is why the schools in this area do not play “Metro”(Dekalb, Cobb, Gwinette) on a regular basis. No games, no coverage. This is why many are surprised or do not think much of the teams from the SCC. The kid’s are making people take notice and they are doing a great job and I commend them all. All of Clayton and Henry should be proud as they are represented by a great group of kid’s. Congrat’s to them all and the best of luck in their quest for the best.

Rockdale Co. Fan here. I was looking forward to playing Miller Grove in a rematch of last years final. But we ran into a macine of Marist. Chattahoochee and SWD will be a fun game to watch Friday, but looking back at the scores, Marist looked like they played Miller Grove tough. I wouldn’t be surprised if Marist is in the final 4. Especially after Miller Grove played their last seven games at home whil Marist has become road warriors.

To all Basketball Fan’s. You are invited to the Clayton–Dekalb Invitational this weekend as the Quest To Be Best continues. Since this is an invitation only event, it was decided that only 2 could win those coveted spot’s because of the large contingent of talented teams comprising the two namesakes of this event. Those two spot’s are awarded to Alcovy High School and Chattahochee High School. They will play a single elimination fomat until there is only one. Don’t miss this Classic Showcase of what many are calling the hottest area for recruiting athlete’s in the United States, Georgia High School Sports, a franchise within itself. So do yourself a favor and go see the future.

“sportsnut” has a point on press coverage but the AJC must think Marist is south of the airport. There were 6 game summaries at midnight but only 5 made it into the print edition – all but Marist. Marist is the only #4 seed still playing and 6 teams are #1 or 2 seeds. Marist is a 2A school by size and chooses to play 4A. Does AJC know the first rule of journalism is “man bites dog”?

The end you need to check the stats for Marist again. Marist forces there opponents to play slow Miller Grove is a fast team and also the only team that Marist lost to by 5 points or more and we know in BB how fast a lead can go down the drain. They only have a few games that were scored over 60 points and their opponents were not far behind so by don’[t count MG out just yet. They have been to Gwinnett the last 3 years and knows what it takes to get that 4th ring, so I dont think that MG will just lay down.

The 4A Championship goes through MG, but they r beatable. Chamblee proved that.
The AAAA Tournament is the best BB in GA this year

Chattahoochee appreciates the invite to the Dekalb Classic!

Definitely one of Hooch’s better games of the season last night. I look forward to a better showing than last year’s game against SWD. It should be a good game!

GO HOOCH!!

The Big “O” by all means they are beatable but I have little confidence in Marist only because I have seen both teams play late in the season if Marist pulls it off it would be a suprising upset.

HoochFan, this is SWD’s last game make it a good one.

Agreed. It will take a great game from Marist, and a slightly off game by MG.

Very curious to see the Hooch v. SWD game.

Man Im telling yall it was electric down at Alcovy last night. Bainbridge was ballin for a half, but the Tigers clamped down on D in the second half. Alcovy is the real deal people. Love the job Coach Brown has done since coming from Stone Mtn. Never a losing record in 5 seasons, 3 state tournament berths, and the Tigers are simply on one right now. Peep this: 3 losses this year ( North Cobb, Savannah, and Morgan Co.), and all them still playing. Looking for the Tigers to breakthrough against North Clayton; they wont be scared considering they played in the same region with those guys 08-09 and had success. Alcovy got too much depth for those guys honestly. Very well coached and Mike Tucker is making a name for his self right now. Go Tigers shut down all this Dekalb- Clayton talk starting this weekend

Marist isn’t getting enough credit on any of these. Miller Grove won’t make it to the elite eight. Y’all heard it here first. Hottest team and best fans in the state.

@AAAA is right on both counts. First, on Marist; second on MG maybe not making it to the elite eight NEXT YEAR, (as they are already in it this year). When they lose all those seniors….who knows?

I really think Hooch has a great chance to beat SWD, neutral site and everything not to mention Chattahoochee has been on a streak and has a great defensive scheme. Who knows possible Final 4 matchup with North Clayton, could be interesting !!

Go Marist — good luck against the top dogs tonight! MG is a good team and a big challenge.

Marist basketball team has just 1 senior, so most of this team will return next year.

It makes me feel good to see the response to the Clayton-Dekalb Invitational. We are currently working to make this a yearly event like the Cobb – Gwinnette Classic in football . Only Clayton, Dekalb and a couple of well chosen squads to close out the Basketball season. So, if your team want’s to participate, make sure they take care of their business leading up to the end of the regular season. All application’s will be reviewed by the ClaKalb Association and the invitee’s will be notified by the AJC.

AAAA, I guess you are not one of those loyal fans since you are unaware at which stage the playoffs are in. But good luck to the War Eagles glad they are playing on a neutral court.

Sniper Fan 1 yeah they maynot get very far next year the bench has alot of development to do before being able to carry-on what the past teams have done. I am not counting the 4th ring just yet dont get me wrong but they have a good chance at getting another one this year.

War Eagle that is going to make the difference between this year and next year the War Eagles only have one senior and MG’s team is loaded with seniors so I can’t wait for this match up. Let’s see if the more experienced can pull off another FINAL FOUR, to make it one step closer to the trophy.

@AAAA-FAN I guess I’m not a loyal fan because of a typo. You’re completely right. I don’t go every game to cheer on the team until I have a splitting headache. I don’t drive to West Georgia and stay till the end to tell the boys how proud we are of their accomplishments. On that note, congrats to both teams tonight. Miller Grove was on as usual, and I would be surprised if they don’t win it all again. As for Marist, way to play your hearts out this season boys. Y’all did more than the rest of the state believed you could do. Way to make us proud.

Again, 4A bball proved to be region 6 to lose…Miller Grove and SWD. Congratulation, to the Wolverines and Panthers boys and girls – 2012 semi finalist. Bring both championships home (DeKalb County). Extra shutout to Marist boys for their great season, elite 8 representative. Region 6 fans will miss the WarEagles and their competiveness on the field and their spirit off the field. Oh, there is no surprise about the run in the playoffs, when you go against teams in region 6, thru the season, you are WELL prepared.

@sportsnut – you make some great points in earlier comments, which I expected. Region 6 vs Region 4, boys, at Gwinnett Arena, much like the 2011 Dome and we know which region prevailed, seeing the same in bball.
