Nice to see you guys award English as Defensive Player of the Year being that Nkemdiche was awarded the Overall State Player of the Year. Perhaps rightfully so as part of Nkemdiche’s immense performance during the 2011 season was on offense in addition to his dominating on defense. Impressive players throughout recognized. Their families, coaches, and teammates should all be proud as they each had a hand in the success enjoyed by these players.

Todd…….Kudos…..Well Done!

Sharmaine Washington should be better than HM. Cole Segraves and John Gray should also be on at least honorable mention. Both Washington and Gray were just as good or better than JHC

IMO Zack Blaylock is the Defensive Player Of The Year! English is good but Zack is better. MDJ got it right. I would have accepted Robert Nkemdiche a lot easier.

Raider 4 Life, you must have not ever seen English play. Google him, he owned Cobb. I don’t think not one coach in Cobb nation including Walton would agree with that statement.

Sorry fellow loyal Raider, I love Blaylock and all he done for us this year but English dominated 5A . He deserves the award with those stats. Good luck to them both.

I saw him play. When we advanced past the second round we watched film where a 4th seed beat him and the other 10 little indian boys. MDJ got it right. Blaylock is DPOTY

@WaltonCoach I call BS on you. You can put whatever name you like, you aren’t a Walton Coach. Real Raiders know what Zack Blaylock meant to Walton. Opposing Coaches know Zack is the true DPOTY.

Speaking of Oscar Luna playing only one year, I think the 2010 all-state kicker, the one from Brookwood, also had played just one year. Funny how that can happen.

Zack Blaylock would be a fine choice as defensive player of the year. Couldn’t go wrong w/ Zack or Darius, IMO. Two different positions, hard to compare their impact.

@CurtisJWalker……..Honestly, I’d seen him play in person several times when we debated the matter. So it’s not like I really knew more than you….Just that I had the advantage of knowing what he was capable of doing. Mike Davis and Kenyan Drake are both beasts of RBs as well as all 3 show the type of RB talent this state has as each of the 3 [Jones, Davis, & Drake] will likely be playing in the SEC over the coming years.

The difference between the 3 this season was really a matter of which was able to lead their team to the better season. All are great players.

Where is that Lassiter LB on here? I saw him wreck Brookwood at the dome. He wasn’t in the program and the announcer didn’t have his name? His name must be the “Evil Ghost”.

@Earthquake….QB Eddie Printz, Lassiter

He’s listed in the Honorable Mention section. He is just a junior so look for big things from him next season.

@Earthquake…I think you might be referring to Kenny Orjioke who was a Safety/LB for Lassiter. When they played Brookwood in the Dome he had only been with the Lassiter program for a couple weeks (family moved from California) so not surprised that he wasn’t in the program. Great player who really only played this one year of football…has committed to UCLA. He is a 16 year old senior.

Todd MLK WR Joshua Stanford had a great year 56 catches and 1014 receiving yards and 11TD’s plus a 90 yard kickoff return for a TD, he and Tibbs probably rank 1and 2 in stats at the AAAAA level, this kid wasn’t even mention as HM, you got to be kidding me.

Sorry truth but rivals needs to be updated. There are plenty of other offers on the table for Zack. He committed early and is not the type of kid to flip. If he did many SEC schools would be there.

Raider 4 Life and Steve Jones PLEEEASE stop with all the negative bashing. One award…two really good players. By the way…Mr Steve Jones…the last time I checked, football is a team sport…not sure how English, being only one guy on a TEAM, loss the Lassiter and Hillgrove game.

@Raider 4 Life,

English was voted DPOY in the AP poll as well. I think comparing English to Zack is like comparing apples to organges. They are both good player but they play diffent positions. I think the reason English was voted the DPOY award in the AP poll by the coaches, is because Teams had to game plan against him to just to have chance to move the ball. To have a 22 sacks, 100 tackles, and two blocked punts that went for touchdowns; all with teams running away from you, double teaming every play, throwing short passes like the ball is a hot potato is nothing short of amazing.
