Travis Custis had over 1800 yards and 31 touchdown’s and made Honorable mention, say it ain’t so! He made it to the Finals and get’s no love. I know the other two backs were good but did they take their team to the championship game? This is par for the course for the AJC, especially Todd. Let’s not forget he placed Lovejoy 3rd. in the final ranking’s after losing the Championship game to Tucker. When will this stop? “HONEST PEOPLE CAN DISAGREE”, remember Todd?.

Congrates, to all the athletes and coaches, who worked hard and paid the price to be elected to this historic fraternity.

Much props to Coach Al Hughes for turning around and continue to build a successful program…GOOD Luck to him and the Wildcats in 6A.

Interesting observation, 4 of the 5 Coach of the year honorees, won their respected classification CHAMPIONSHIP. I guess being named “the Coach of the year”, you can’t have previously won a state championship?

Anyway, 2011 4A Honorable Mention, Coach of the Year: Franklin Stephens, TUCKER

“WE ARE TUCKER”

LOVEJOY has the coach of the year? Seems like the team that won, not the team that lost, would have the coach of the year. No matter the vote, Coach Stephens of Tucker is the best.

Tough choice for coach of the year. With two titles at a place that never could get over the hump until he got there, Franklin Stephens has to be considered one of the few best in the profession in Georgia now. But also got to be impressed w/ Coach Hughes. He’s coached for 35 years, this was his first final. No Clayton school had been to the final in 12 years.

re: Custis – Thornton, Watson & Custis all rushed for about the same yardage, around 1775 to 1825. Thornton & Watson averaged more yards per game and were seniors who have had record-setting careers, one committed to NC State, the other to Tennessee. Custis led his team to the final and is probably just as deserving. All I can say is that these are some tough choices!

How can you say you feel sorry for a coach who has coached for over 35 years and finally gets to the final. Says one things, wasn’t getting the job done the other 34 years. Coach Stephens came into the year with a target on his back along with his team and they followed the coarse and won a state championship. How can he not be Coach of the Year. 15-0 and the number one offense and his team ran through LoveJoy like a hot knife through BUTTER. Tucker could have put up another 20 points on these kids if he pushed them. Coach Stephen was a Class Act all year because he never tried to run up the scroe on any team and if you look back his starts probably on played two full game during the regular season because he didn’t want to embarass the other team, now thats a real Coach of the Year.

Alex Lakes, Northgate High RB should be on that list. This kid is being over looked and he is one the best backs in the state.

Got to agree that Stephens is coach of the year. Not only did Tucker win it all, but they went undefeated after graduating a ton of D1 talent and with a new starting QB. Congrats to all the honorees.

Congrads to East Paulding Raiders MR. HARDNOSE #2 Terell Hannah(DB/RB/ATH) on your accomplishments, 2011 Honorable Mention – All State/ 2011 All Paulding County’s Defense Player of the Year, hats off to you. Should’ve been First team (ATH) if they were paying attention to all around stats.

Holland Frost, quarter back from pope is the most dynamic Qb in the state. his stats don’t exactly jump out but anybody that watches this kid knows that he is the truth. 4.4 speed and throw a 60-70 yard ball.

Franklin Stephens is the 2011 Coach of the Year. His 2011 team was 15-0. His career record is 64-6. Who else in GHSA even comes close? It would seem logical to re-announce immediately there were co-winners rather have a single champion coach as a non-winner.

William ‘Shaq’ Goodwin should be a first team All-State Tight End. Although he played in a run based offense out of the Wing-T and Spread, he was the catalyst on the team. If he played in a Pro-Style or Spread, he would have better numbers..

Franklin Stephenson should get the coach of the Year nod, but Al Hughes and his staff did a great job. Lovejoy is definitely the Team of the Year in Class AAAA.

I have to agree Franklin Stephens should be the Coach of the Year 2011, on the same note Lovejoy whether you like it or not should have finished season 2 in the final rankings.

@DeKalb Football — you have to be joking regarding Goodwin. Great bball player; average, at best, football player, who played like he hated football contact. The catalyst for SWD was Toran Davis.

@ComeOn,

Toran Davis is a man amongst boys. Great Basketball player, no question; but to say he is just average on the gridiron is absurd. I guess the four games I seen him play in happened to be his best ones of the season? To be quie honest, I am not even a SWD fan, but I know that he was left off the team.

@ Bigdog58, Coach Stephens is definitely a class act. Todd, I don’t usually disagree with you, but how could anyone other than Coach Stephens even get consideration for the Coach of the Year. Todd only YOU can make the necessary correction.

Coach of the year does not always go to the winning coach. There are times when a team might turn in a winning season after a losing season and the coach is recognized for the turn-a-round. Coach Way from WR was a more fitting candidate as they missed the post season with a dismal record in 2010 but came back this year and went to the 4th round of the playoff’s and I think he deserved the award. Coach Hughes at Lovejoy did a good job of making his kid’s believe they could win after a 1st round departure in 2010 and went to the final in 2011. Sometimes the best coaching job’s are done with little attention. Coach Hughes was a deserving winner in my opinion but it should have gone to Coach Way. Another coach that should have been given consideration is the man at Tri-Cities High. This team was not given a chance in he…., but finished the season in the Top 10 in the State.

The Newnan Times-Herald has got to be the most biased newspaper in Georgia. Lakes has to share Offensive player of the year in Coweta county. But he is the only player from the county to make all state. Those non stop pictures of the User boy did not impress the voters. Justice has been served.
