Saturday marked the first home games for Carrollton in their newly renovated gym and newly christened Criswell Court, named for Trojans coach Tim Criswell. According to the school system website Criswell was honored “for the many contributions he has made as a coach, teacher and mentor.” Carrollton is off to a 2-0 start with solid wins over Cedartown and Newnan.
> Eagle’s Landing got four games with 6-10 exchange student John Egbunu before he and teammate Drew Davis – whose family is the host family for Egbunu – left the team over what Golden Eagles head coach Clay Crump called “philosophical differences.” Crump declined to comment further on their departures. Meanwhile, the Eagles haven’t missed a beat, edging Drew before routing Eastside and Union Grove to push their record to 7-0. Egbunu and Davis have committed to the University of South Florida.
> Next week defending state champion Columbia switches into tournament mode. The Eagles, who were 6-0 entering Tuesday’s game against Druid Hills, hit the road to Columbia, S.C., for the Chick-fil-A Classic next week then return home and host the Converse Classic Dec. 26-30.
> After opening with a loss to Class AAAA Dunwoody, North Springs has reeled off seven straight wins.
> Senior point guard Ken Jackson is averaging 25.6 points per game, keying Monroe Area’s 6-0 start.
GIRLS
Perhaps the most impressive start in AAA belongs to Allatoona, which is 6-0 against Class AAAA and AAAAA schools so far. The Lady Buccaneers, who lost in the first round of the state tournament last season, travel to Valdosta for the Randall Godfrey Christmas Classic next week and play host to the Lake City Classic Dec. 28-30.
> St. Pius is 7-0 after wins last week over Washington, North Springs and Class AA Lovett. Freshman Asia Durr scored 21 points in the win over Washington.
> This weekend features one of the state’s top non-region games Friday as defending Class AA champion Buford visits Columbia, a AAA semifinalist last season.
> Defending state champion Washington County is 6-0 after beating Hancock Central last Friday. The Lady Warhawks have won 38 straight games and 42 straight regular-season games.

What bothers me is how we celebrate these great win-loss records! St.Pius hasen’t played anyone good, lets see what they do after the lovett game and maybe the Wesylan game! Washington county has not played anyone who would challenge them in two years their toughest game this year before playoffs might be vs Jonesboro??.. of course they should have a great win-loss record! And Allotoona is the biggest joke of all!! Come on..The coaches poll is a big joke! If your in a weak region you should go undefeated!! Big deal your 8-0 vs jv competition and when you do lose we need to look at who they are losing too! Columbia lost 1 game to Norcross, and are playing Buford Friday, even if they lose that game at least you have an idea what kind of team you are dealing with. These teams in the top-coaches poll are overrated, and we ALL know it! We should stop celebrating coaches lack of courage in playing TOUGH non-region teams that would be a challenge. I respect Buford..they play any and everyone, I respect Columbia they play anyone regardless of class, so does Norcross, and Wesylan and St. Francis! Even if they lose they get better because of who they play! Some of these teams are so wack they won’t even play some tough games during christmas break! How wack is that?? WOW..

All you can do is win the games put before you and Allatoona has seemed to do that. They have been crushed in years past, played some close games but lost, now they are beating the teams they should beat- give them some credit. Only time will tell, but kudos to them for now. I guess we might find out more when they play state ranked Lowndes come Saturday, huh?

Washington County are the Lady Hawks, not Warhawks. Common mistake, but it shouldn’t be for a team that hasn’t lost since the winter of 2010.
