Lovejoy and Tucker will be a track meet of a football game. I think Tucker prevails because they have been consistently in this type of big game atmosphere. Looking forward to watching it on TV tonight.
Good luck to all the teams playing this weekend and hoping for no serious injuries.
See you tomorrow night at the Dome!!

Posted this in the comments board in the game preview article but I’m moving it over here just to stir the pot as the conversation continues…
Compared some of what I’ve seen from both teams, some stats which can be a little misleading (Tucker’s D, for instance during the regular season, gave up most of its points in the second half, long after the starters had taken off their pads; most of Northside’s offense came on ONE play). Biggest difference, as we have seen over the years consistently. Lovejoy has fine team; Tucker has a PROGRAM. On my radar screen, Tucker looks like a 24-0 or 24-7 winner. Special teams play and Tucker’s propensity for shooting themselves in the foot with stupid penalties (how many false starts against Northside? 7?) could make it closer. Lovejoy may stop one or two of Tucker’s backs… Northside shut down Minor and Rivers, Landry ate them up… but they’ll have their hands full chasing all four. Hard to see where Lovejoy’s offense will put points on the board.
So, there you go… Let the chest beating continue. Good luck to both teams; it’s an achievement to get to the Dome. Hoping for no injuries. We want to see both sides at their best.

Lovejoy 21 Tucker 7 You heard it here first! Lovejoy will shut them down just like Northside did. There offense only scored off of a fumble at the 30 yard line. They never had a sustained drive against Northside. I predict Tucker will not score against LJ!

@ eagle1 Did you even watch last week’s game? Or has your bias made you color blind to the point that you got the two teams mixed up. Both offenses had their problems at different times against superior defenses. I saw a game between two teams that were fairly evenly matched; yes, a bad break cost Northside the victory but that happens. Nothing I’ve seen convinces me that Lovejoy plays at the same level as either Northside or Tucker.

@HSballfan. I agree with much of what you said. The one thing that worries me though is Lovejoys special teams play they have been outstanding all year.I hope the game does not come down to Tucker needing to make a field goal or an extra point for the win. I believe in the end Tucker has too many weapons on offense. Lets not forget the quarterback who is also an outstanding runner. and Tuckers defense is as good as any in the state.

@rwdekalb I share your concerns. If Lovejoy’s D is as good as advertised and Tucker struggles for points, they cannot afford half a dozen false start penalties, fumbles or special teams screw-ups. When the playoff brackets were released, the one opponent I feared the most was Flowery Branch, because of Coker. If you look at the teams that have given Tucker the most trouble over the years, they were the ones with strong QB’s… Creekside with Berry, Ivory of Northside, the tall kid at Statesboro. Lovejoy does not have that; their defense will have to win it for them.

@A person SMART enough to know — They did not “DIS” Walton at all. Is was all about Grayson getting to the DOME and making it our year. There was not trashtalking or if you even think there was it was so mild. The Brookwood Where You At had more trashtalk but they are Grayson’s region rival. You need to compare the videos

Buford was down by 14 with 1 minute 20 seconds to play and they had the ball inside their 20 yard line. Calhoun went in to a prevent defense which prevents you from rushing the passer most of the time. With all day to throw Buford took the ball the length of the field to score. Calhoun got the ball back with a minute to play and couldn’t get a first down so with about 40 seconds left they kicked to Buford and there was a bad snap and the kicker tried to run with the ball and he fumbled to Buford with about 20 seconds left. Buford threw a pass and tied up the game. Calhoun ran the clock out and they went to over time.. Buford got the ball first and fumbled to Calhoun. Calhoun on their very first play kicked a field goal ending with a Calhoun win.

North South Recap
December 9th, 2011
8:28 pm
Let’s see…..
AAAAA will be won by a north Georgia team.
AAAA will be won by a north Georgia team.
AAA will be won by either a east central or central Georgia team.
AA was won by a north Georgia team.
A is the only chance for south Georgia to win a championship and it depends on a Savannah school..wouldn’t touch those odds!! If Landmark Christian beats Savannah, then the north would be 4 – 0 in championship games with the other championship going to central Georgia. Appears again this year the Georgia high school football power stays NORTH. The “south may rise again” but not as far as south Georgia football goes. South Georgia football is dead….R.I.P.

An objective viewpoint here. Living in another state so no dog in the fight. Glad to see the University of Buford get beaten by a high school team though. The refs did seem to be giving the advantage to Buford. Saw two non calls on out of bounds hits on Calhoun players in the 4th qtr. Those “doofuses” on GPB were sitting there talking about Calhoun’s win with over a minute to go when those 2 personal foul penalties were called. They had egg all over their faces when the camera cut back to the field and they realized what was going on. Also, those two female sideline reports were acting like elementary school kids. Good grief! One was yelling with such a high pitched voice, it was hurting my ears. And yes, as someone said, the coach for Calhoun needs to leave Jesus out of it. I am a Christian myself, but he had absolutely nothing to do with CC winning this game. I know for a fact he could care less, and has more important things to be dealing with. Does that coach think Jesus would rather CC win than Buford? That’s so asinine!

The Calhoun punter didn’t try to run with the ball; he never had a chance to take a step before getting wiped-out by the Buford players. Wasn’t a very smart play by the kicker but he only had 1/1000th of a second to decide what to do. Did Calhoun have anyone blocking on that play because Buford players almost beat the ball back to the punter.
Very entertaining game. Did anyone else notice the Calhoun coach never mentioned Buford during his post game interview? Not required but usually the winning coach compliments the other program for their successful season. Guess since he’s never been the winning coach of a championship game he wasn’t prepared. Just like he wasn’t by kicking the field goal on first down. The coach owes not being the biggest goat in high school history to his kicker. Also, Calhoun had a seldom seen demographic make-up of their team.

It was a good game thow. I don’t think Jesus won the game for Calhoun, I just think they have a good team and a good coach. The Calhoun coach made it sound like Jesus hates Buford, LOL.

Congrats to Calhoun. Awesome game and awesome win. Hats off to the coach & players for giving God the glory. Buford has always tried to get the glory for themselves….not this year. P.S. Did the Bufrod player ever decide where he would play at next year? He said he would make that decision after they win the STATE. Hmmm.

Lets dont put IFS in here jvillebil, because IF the Refs would have called the clip on #8(Alex Kirby) on Bufords first TD,we wouldnt have been talking about Calhoun nearly blowing it(or the late hits out of bounds or the horsecollar in the first Qt,etc etc etc)..I picked Calhoun to win 38-24…Calhoun didnt go down field passing as much as they have been( IM sure due to Bufords awsome pass rush). As Ive said all year Calhouns Defense stacks up with Bufords anyday and Calhouns offense is Alot better than Bufords,I dont care how many D1s you have…27-24 and it really wasnt that close….

GT VET good points. I watched the whole game and Calhoun dominated. I really wanted them to win, because they play with the kids they have no recruits. I just felt bad for them when they had those late miscues and didn’t think they could regroup, that is why that fumble seemed so important.

@North South Recap. South Georgia football is not dead. Fitzgerald came close to beating the Bufford wolves and were a small town, small school system. This year the hurricanes came close to beating the Carver Columbus Tigers, same thing there a huge school system. I was hoping they or somebody at the time would beat Bufford though. Glad to see finally somebody beat them. Only reason northern counties do better, is most are of bigger school systems. Same for Central Georgia, alot of bigger school systems. And Bufford, what are they from, A part of a district around Atlanta, Go figure.

The Buford/Calhoun game was one of the best games I’ve ever seen in football, with the WORST announcers I’ve ever heard. Calhoun 10 Buford 3 “touchdown Buford, and Buford regains the lead”!… What?? Congratulations to Tucker for winning the 4A championship. I was at the Northside-Tucker game and it was obvious that NS beat Tucker in everything but the score. The second half belonged to NS. Tucker’s offense never showed up. Thirty-eight yards of offense! NS was beaten by a fluke play. Tucker won the game but they didn’t beat NS, NS beat themselves. But that’s football. Tucker is the champ.

I am amazed and saddened at the overwhelming amount of Buford hate around the state. That was a great game last night to which Calhoun deserved to win. However, I don’t think all the venom is necessary.
My family moved to Buford years ago because we saw a community where the children and education are valued. Yes, they put a huge emphasis on the sports but there is a lot more to Buford than our football team. Because we have been successful in many areas, people like to hurl all kinds of accusations of “cheating”, “recruiting”, and so on. The truth is that we have a community that has found great coaches for our teams who are great advisors and examples for our kids. They continually remain humble and thankful to the parents and community for support. To folks who live in the community, our schools remain a focus and our kids success is always a priority.
Last night was a classic game that Calhoun fans will never want to forget. Buford folks remember our ‘78 championship like it was last week and our 2001 game over Bowdon like it was yesterday. Our fans would argue that the refs blew a couple of huge calls against us and that injuries to key players were a huge factor in last night’s game, but our fumbles and Calhoun’s mistake free play won them a very deserved trophy. As I told some of their very polite fans last night at the Varsity, “If it wasn’t for Buford, Calhoun would be the most hated team in the state.” Guess now they have earned that right. (unfortunately)

Friday nights- It will never happen, but would lovvvvvvee to see any of the other class champs line up against either Buford or Calhoun. Higher the class does not necessarily mean better teams or talent. Its as meaningless an aurgument as the BCS, but it is fun to argue. Buford is as big or bigger than any other team, and Calhoun is as fast or faster. Tucker, Grayson, whoever….bring them on.

Don’t believe for a minute that Calhoun doesn’t recruit, etc. (Derrick Rogers) just like Buford. If Calhoun published their roster with players addresses, half or more of them would be from outside of their district. So, enjoy the win, just don’t pretend you did it with home grown talent. And, they must be teaching the that fuzzy math at Calhoun because they had to have used it to stay in 2A when at least one of the other schools in Gordon County that moved to 3A was no bigger than they were.

You people challenging Buford and others to come play with the “BIG BOYS” do realize that Buford would have double the number of students to chose from than they do now to qualify for the top classification unless you want a “gimme” against a smaller school.Get over it each class has its competetion and outstanding players-there are benefits to not having 600 students in your graduating class. And no I am not a Buford fan.

The Buford people always running their mouths about being the best no matter what classification. If they played in 4a or 5a they would play teams as good or better than Calhoun 7 or 8 times a year just in their region. I thought they had all of these great players, but hell, a ton of their players played both ways. Coach, you shouldn’t have kept giving the ball to #32 he was playing the whole game, he looked real tired in the 3rd quarter. It’s easy to coach when you play inferior teams evey week. What a joke.

How many different QB’s has Calhoun had in the last 4 or 5 years? Luck up with the Darlington transfers, lucked up with the Lamb kid moving in because of his dad getting the Mercer job. Not saying they recruit but they have benefitted from different situations and when you have as many schools withing a 30 mile radius and the population you are going to reload everyyear. That is where the rural schools are at a disadvantage. But who said life is fair. Schools like Tucker, Calhoun, and Buford should be in the Finals every year with the talent they get.

Got to the Dome last night in the 3rd Qtr of the BUFORD / CALHOUN game…came in on the BUFORD side so ended up sitting there…great spot on the 50yrd line! CALHOUN had taken advantage of turnovers and played a solid game to that point…looked like it was over BUT then the miracle happenned and in less than two minutes the game was tied and into overtime…
TUCKER folks were milling around behind us ready to get started when the overtime ended barely as it began and CALHOUN had their win! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
One more comment of the BUFORD / CALHOUN game they had BOTH brought good support and had loud fans cheering in both the lower and second levels…I say this because…
In the TUCKER / LOVEJOY game TUCKER had a nice size group BUT nowhere near the way BUFORD packed it in and the LOVEJOY side was a ghost town!!! Someone needs to tell CLAYTON Cty. they had a team playing at the dome in a CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!
This was TUCKERS night from the start…they DOMINATED!!! Very fast group, once they got in the open or around the corners it was OVER they ran over and thru LOVEJOY all night!!!
I DO NOT see how LOVEJOY beat WARNER ROBINS to get to this game…this makes me even more dissapointed in the EAST / WARNER ROBINS game, if EAST PAULDING had beat WARNER ROBINS they would have destroyed this LOVEJOY team!!! They may not have beat TUCKER last night BUT it would have been a much closer game than what we saw with LOVEJOY!
Oh well…Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda…
All year the TUCKER folks have been on here talking about how they are a complete team and from the start have confidently said how they would win out for State! Last night in the dome they proved they were as advertised and that they indeed COULD beat the BEST the other teams threw at them!

a few thoughts on last nights games Calhoun almost gave it back found there composure and won it in OT great game…Tucker simply outmatched Lovejoy… but one thing I notied most of the Tucker starters were Seniors they have played on that stage and were prepared by a tremendous coach.. they will be losing a lot of players next year… repeat may not be as likely… Lovejoy seemed to have more underclassmen and a majority of their team was Juniors Lovejoy moves up to 6A they will be favored to play for their region championship…They were not ready for the big stage they should have opened up their offense in the first half… the Tucker team keyed on their #22 RB and took him away.. there strength was the short passes they will move up to the bigger stage next year we will see if they can make a run up there… looking forward to tonight… I would like to see Grayson get theirs…

Sounds like Obama and other politicians on here.
Just tell the truth. The A and AA private and city schools recruit like hell.
They have ruined what high school sports should be about. They don’t build their kids and programs up and teach work ethic. They take the college and pro way of going out and buying what they need.
Private and city schools are the big market Yankees and Angels while the public schools are the small market Marlins and Pirates.
This attitude is a cancer in our society. Whats worse is that now you have schools and people who used to never consider cheating that now are getting real close to crossing the line. Still doesn’t justify it though.

The GHSA has let this get out of hand and if they had the guts to even try to fix it now I’m not sure they could. In fact, I know the bunch that is there now couldn’t.
This is a A and AA problem for the most part right now b/c those are the easiest classifications that a few recruits can make “the” difference in winning games and championships.
It isn’t the right solution but part of me wishes they would just do away with any rule that limits mobility from school to school. Everyone on the same page and playing by the same rules. What an idea!

Just my opinion but isnt recruting when a plaer is enticed or rewarded to go to a particular school?I think the vast majority of transfers are done legally under existing policies such as the city schools allowing tuition students from the county. It looks like most transfers are players who want to play with a proven winner rather than being loyal to the teammates he grew up with.As far as private schools recruiting-I dont pretend to know the rules but if athletes are on scolarship this would be a cause for major action.Does anyone know?

Smart enough to know, I wish every parent could send their kids to the school of their choice. It would then be a level playing field but now it is not. My argument makes me sound like a liberal but I’m very conservative and old-fashioned. I just don’t feel that other schools and kids should have to play against a different system.
High school years and athletic competition is important to a lot of people. It builds a life-time of memories. Poor kids have memories too! I just want the field to be level in that the rules are the same, NOT the talent or work ethic. Those attributes come from the inside of the communities , players and coaches. Then the best team that worked the hardest wins, not the ones that had the means you speak of.
Lastly, I’d feel the same if I lived near a private or public school and my child could attend one. I’m not saying I wouldn’t take advantage of the chance for my child, but I’d realize that I just happened to be on the side that gained from a flawed system.

Old School;I agree with most of your take on things. The bottom line is that there will never be equality on the playing field(or in the classroom for that matter).Counties that have 1 high school and no city school will always be at a disadvantage. As far as allowing attendance between the 2 I say that should be left up to the local school boards. We must also remember that these transfers arent made just for athletics.I know a career teacher at a county school who chose to send her son to the city school because of the greater facitities afforded him there. He played no sports and finished #2 in his graduating class-reminds us that some of the rules in place are for benfits other than extracirrular activities.

CONGRATS to the Tucker team, coaches, parents, boosters, teachers , bloggers, the whole nine yards. Very impressive head coach and very discipline kids. Congratulations Tucker on a great championship season!
@TomDawg: In response to “I know everybody wants to win every game, but. How can any Buford fan, coach or player act that classless because they didn’t win their fifth state championship. Players crying on the sidelines, towels coverig their face like they’re ashamed about losing. Give me a break. A BUNCH OF SPOILED BRATS! Don’t worry mommy and daddy will buy you trophy. And please, i don’t want to hear “They are only kids. leave em alone”. They”re 18 year old men. That’s the ones i’m talking about.”
Just because the kids are crying after they lose the state championship doesn’t make them spoiled brats. If they were the first class to lose state in 5 years, that can be something that you might be shameful about. You feel like you haven’t lived up to the expectations of the program and its community.
For me, it was with the One-Act play contest at Northside. My brother won state at Northside, my cousin won state at Perry. We finished 3rd, 2nd, and 2nd. After I graduated, they won four state contest’s in a row. At that point of the winner being announced, you do feel as though you have let people down.
Heck, even professional athletes cry when they lose the Super Bowl, the World Series, or The Finals. Give the kids a break, dude!

The peeps who post on here are a VERY small sampling of the population. Most Buford fans – and our team – ALWAYS spoke highly of Calhoun. It is greatly unfortunate that you have such a jaded negative attitude towards our community and schools. Buford’s a good football team. Except for the 4 battles with Calhoun the last 4 years, they have run over the competition in AA like they were POP WARNER teams. Now they move up to AAA, and get to play most of the same teams as they also move up. Most want to see how Buford plays against better competition by moving up in class, but Buford wants to stay where they know they could dominate, and by doing so, not showing there true strength in the state. So yes most are glad they lost last night. Congrats to both teams.

Observer, I know facilities, academics, even coaches and teachers will never be equal. I’m not advocating equality or a type of parity. I just don’t think adults, or an organization run by adults such as the GHSA, should allow certain schools with different enrollment procedures the chance to compete against schools without those same procedures.
A kid that lives in Dawsonville, for example, could travel to Buford or Lovett and legally play. But a kid who lives anywhere else outside of Dawson County can’t travel into Dawsonville and play legally.
No way that is right. Its ruining kids opportunities to experience the playoffs in A and AA in every sport. Go to the GHSA site and click on past champions and look at the trend.
Yeah they win but if a coach can’t win at a private or city school, then thats a sorry coach or sorry recruiters. Either way they need to be replaced!
Lastly, and I’m not sure of the real whys to this statement but I kind of admire Marist. At least they always have played up.

@Old School: You are absolutely correct in your observation. I think one of the problems, is that Buford makes the GHSA look good on a national level. Each state hold their heads up high with each team that cracks the 100. Buford might look like a powerhouse on paper around the country, but if they knew the patsies they are beating up on it would be a different story. The GHSA sets the rules, but seem to have no clue of what’s going on. Happens in football and it happens in basketball. One good example: A high school loses 4 D1 players to graduation. They do have to other kids from lasts years roster that could step up, but I guess it wasn’t enough and out of the sky they have two D1 senior prospect that just so happen to transfer in. Fishy if you ask me. GHSA says their hands are tied, it was legal. GHSA, should split the privates from the public schools. NYC has 8 classifications, everything from private, public, catholic classifications. It’s like a national recruiting university like Georgia getting high calibre players playing against Shorter College, where almost all the students are local.

I love the new set up for next year. This way you will have to go through all of the South instead of us beating on each other. No more Camden/Colquit or Lowndes/Camden games before the semis. Now we are about to find out what you are really made of.
Now my prediction of the AAAAA game Saturday night.
I believe Grayson’s defense will handle Walton’s big Offensive line and running game the same way Lowndes did Brookwood’s supposedly unstoppable force in 2005.
It ain’t going to be pretty.
Grayson’s offense will wear down and then trample all over the Blaylock twins.
As for national rankings? Those guys doing the national rankings hardly have a clue half the time. I will say this. It will be very hard for any one from 1AAAAAA to go undefeated starting next year and yet they could have the best team in the state or the nation when they don’t. So high national rankings to 1AAAAAA are going to come very hard except possibly at the beginning of the year.
So like I said…….a joke. Buford is no way a top 10 of all of the high school teams in America nationally. In fact I don’t even believe they are even top 5 in the state of Georgia.

I think we’re seeing just how lopsided the brackets were in AAAAA. The left side of the bracket would win 2 out of 3 with the right side of the bracket. Colquitt, Camden and a number of others are wishing they could be in place of Grayson, you can bet. And the score might not be all that different. I had Walton as the sleeper weeks ago, but at the half, they don’t look like they belong.

Wow. I did not see this happening. But Walton looked kind of shell shocked from the start of the game. A spread team would have given Grayson more problems I think. Just look at Colquitt from last week. But the Walton QB needs a clock in his head. And if they are going to throw the ball, they need screens or some short routes be the TE. The passes seem to be for long routes, and the Raider runnign game hasn’t done anything to open up a deep pass.

So the AAAAA State Championship moves about 6 miles from Brookwood to Grayson. And here I had thought this was an off year for 8-AAAAA. 8-AAAAA has been the winningest region in AAAAA football in the years when it was the largest classification in Georgia. 8-AAAAA has 5, 3-AAAAA has 3, and 1-AAAAA has 3. Roswell and Peachtree Ridge split one.

Yes, now we have 16 or 17 AAAAA schools, a terrific compliment for Gwinnett County, actually, as a place to live. Kind of like me claiming the Cleveland Browns to be the winningest program in the NFL. Sure Valdosta won a lot, but never in AAAAA. You can stay in the horse and buggy days all you want.

You probably have to combine 10 Gwinnett schools to equal how long Valdosta has been playing. Lowndes County has 28 because Valdosta has what 23 of those or so.

The last two seasons R8 has won 17 playoff games.
R1 has won 8 playoff games and 3 of those were against Savannah sacrificial lambs.

Yet Buford continues to play in a region theey know they can dominate. They will not go up in classification and prove all the naysayers wrong. If they can win in any classification then why not play up. They line up against teams that look small next to their behemoths. Lets see them line up against some equal teams and see if they could run the cards. Until then they have not proven anything to me and not earned my respect. Bullies don’t impress me. Now I’m not blaming the kids, they play their hearts out and work hard, but the coaches and school administration would rather keep winning against pop warner teams and keep filling the trophy case, to look good. How did this happen and what was the thinking of the bracket set ups? The only two teams that gave Grayson a run in the playoffs, were from S. GA…..Lowdnes and Colquitt. Unfortunately, the matchup everyone wanted to see was Grayson/Camden and did not happen. The USA Today rankings during the year probably had it right…….Camden and Grayson both in top ten.

OK-time to get over the Buford hating(or envy). They get a lot of athletes because they are a winner-a lot of players will bail on their neighborhhod teammates to join them.I do not beleive any system allows players from across county lines to play without moving to that area-correct me if I am wrong. As for them not playing up in class-why would they? They play in the class their enrollment calls for like most everyone else. The teams that play up usually do so for travel reasons.I think Marist used to do this-by the way look for them to be a force in AAAA next season.
SORIGHT
December 11th, 2011
10:21 am
Marist still does it, their enrollment puts them in AA, and have decided to move up two spots to AAAA. Dunwoody, wants to move to AAAAA, which would make them the smallest school in that classification, and Weslyan will be the smallest in class AA, both are moving up a notch. If Buford grows some and move up there would not be a shortness of schools to play nearby. Travel would be within Gwinnett, Dekalb and Atlanta. So the excuse of travel, is not valid, travel will be comparable to basically the same they had this past year.

Ask Grayson and Colquitt how tough North is to beat. Grayson has played North in a scrimmage game the last two years and knows how tough they are. North won both. Colquitt will likely tell you North Gwinnett not Grayson was the best defense they played all year. Just a shame all these teams were on the same side of the bracket.

After those teams it is anyone’s guess. Just like this year they are clearly the top three teams. North Gwinnett will drop off some next year. Could be a top team but still need a lot of players to develop. Walton and others (McEachern, Hillgrove, West Forsyth) need to get more physical on defense. Anyone, who says that Buford could have anywhere near the same success in one of the larger classifications doesn’t know much about the competition that they face 7-8 of their games every year. A lot of those teams that Buford plays would lose to the JV’s and some freshman teams at some of the 4A and 5A schools. If your not familiar with the Cross Keys, Decaturs, Blessed Trinity, Avondale etc., then you really just don’t know what your talking about. If Buford played in some of these larger regions they would win 5, 6 maybe 7 games a year on average. I mean, give me a break and look at some film of their competition throughout the year.

December 11th, 2011
12:02 pm
Jack – you haven’t a clue when you make comments about the Region Buford plays in. AA is arguably the most competitive classification. GAC, Lovett, Westminster, and BT are AA schools with AA level depth but could consistently beat 4A and 5A competition because of player and scheme discipline, and coaching. Why do you think Marist and St. Pius are so competitive playing two and one levels up??? Lovett beat Buford in ‘09 and BT had Buford down 10-7 at Buford in ‘08 with a minute to go. Per capita, these schools put out more D1 talent than a majority of the 5A schools. I know BT schedules 4A and 5A teams in the preseason and handles them. Buford and Calhoun are outstanding football programs and will dominate in any classification they play in, period. The 5Aers hate em and won’t play em because they are afraid to because then there would be no reason to be sending your kid to a crappy, overcrowded Gwinnett 5 A school just for football once you get dominated by Buford and parents see their good facilities, small school size and good academics. Buford dominated top Ohio, AL, and FL teams on ESPN because the Gwinnett 5A and South Georgia 5A maniac teams won’t even pickup the phone when Buford calls to schedule them. With your making comments like you have, you obviously never watched this year’s Buford and Calhoun Team’s. These teams would dominate at any level.

Had it not been for the U of Buford-Calhoun Co. game, it would have been a very boring Championship finale this year. Also, having only been back to GA from a Western state the last 2 years, whose bright idea was it to have the finals in the “Dumb Dome”? There is so much missing from when it was played in one of the home cities, no matter how it was determined. I will never forget the packed stadiums in such places as Moultrie, Valdosta, and Warner Robins. To top it all, we almost had a game between two teams from the same town (NS and WR) in the dome which is 100 miles away from Warner Robins. How stupid would that have been, and think how much revenue WR would have lost. The crowds are pretty pathetic and the noise and excitement are not very evident(at least on TV). GPB announcers leave a lot to be desired too. Where do they get these people?

@ Gwinnette Fan. To answer your question, does anyone think there defense matches up with with Grayson displayed last night? Yes, Camden County does. As I stated before, Walton is a ” Softy ” and that whole region a softy. Camden pummeled both Marietta and S. Cobb……not saying very much as both quit in the 3rd Q. It was indeed unfortunate that Camden/Grayson did not play. Without a doubt the two best teams in the state probably, after all is said and done.

To everyone on the Gwinnett vs.Region 1 and the world debate, in my opinion the only point to be proven is that the demographics in the state have impact and reflects in the concentration of talent (mainly African American males) to specific areas to produce winning HS teams.
You can continue to debate whether south teams have done more than north, when they did it, and under what generational circumstances and it will all boil down to where these populations gather and their children attend school. The north GA athlete is really no different than the south GA athlete, it is just a matter of where a large segment of these families are located. Back in the day, it was the agricultural south, in the last decades is metro/sub Atlanta and that is consistent to what the debate is. The number of schools, number of residents, and number of championships are closely related to the number of championships I would guess, I maybe wrong, but that is just my thoughts on the matter.

@iTiSi – you are basing your crowd comments based on what you saw on TV. I can tell you the 5A game was VERY well attended on both sides. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were 16-18,000 people or more there. Not too many high school stadiums can hold that. The dome is just so big that it it can be deceptive on the number of people there. At times last night, both sides were making a lot of noise and it could be heard.
To me, they need to start earlier in the day and allow more time between games. It was crazy trying to move to our seats with the BC fans coming out. They, of course and understandably, were not in a hurry to leave. The congestion was awful. The dome staff was trying to get the incoming fans to go to the end zone and that makes sense if the game and presentation is not over but this was while our teams were on the field warming up long after things were over for the game before us.

I have never seen a team so focused to the point that they didn’t want pep rallies, didn’t want TV coverage, didn’t want to be team of the week, just wanted to play the game that week and move on. The coaches did a great job getting the team ready and the team did a great job executing. It was a team effort even though there were some outstanding individuals that were a part of the team. We played a lot of really good teams on our trek to 15-0 and are the better for it. Congratulations RAMS!!!!

Savannah Christian showed what real punks they are ,leading 20-3 with about 2 mins left in the game and they still try to score another touchdown to jack the score up. Then took a knee with 30 sec left but they should have done it that whole series. Donald Chumpley showed his true colors. I’m glad ur not my champs.
