Decatur head football coach Price Jones resigned today after four seasons.
Decatur was 18-22 under Jones and finished 4-6 in 2001 playing in Region 6-AA, one of the state’s toughest. Decatur lost to Westminster 35-7 in a region play-in game on Nov. 4.
Decatur most recently made the playoffs in 2003 with a 13-1 finish and run to the Class AA semifinals under coach Steve Davenport, who is now head coach at Savannah State University.
Decatur has been placed in Region 6-AAA for 2012-14 with St. Pius, Cross Keys and Blessed Trinity in its subregion.

That semifinal appearance was his first year as well! Would love to have him back at SWD, but not with him in his first year at Savannah State. Decatur has a nice Stadium rebuilt a couple years ago, nice facilities, should get lots of applications.

I see Dekalb Watcher listed all of the flashy eye catchers. However, I have seen the behavior of the parents at that hornets nest. That team was competitive, hardworking, and challenging for the playoffs every year Coach Jones was there. I think a few parents just forced a good man to throw in his hat. This community needs to show some real support for the nest guy. I just hope the boys can keep their heads up.
