The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association released tentative rosters for the Georgia North-South High School All-Star game, which will be played Dec. 30 in Columbus.
The North team will be led by 2,000-yard rushers Miles Jones of Allatoona and Kevin Ellison of Habersham Central. Ellison played quarterback for Habersham but is listed as a running back for the all-star game.
Some of the bigger names on the South roster are running back Kenyan Drake of Hillgrove and linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons of Lowndes. Both were Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super 11 picks in preseason.
Neither roster is set. The South may add as many as six players.
The head coaches are Steve Sewell of Pickens for the North and Maurice Freeman of Brooks County for the South.
The North-South All-Star game, one of the oldest in the country, was started in 1938.

Does South Georgia start at the Airport? Clayton, Fayette, Henry and Coweta are south of the city but by no means are they South Georgia. You have a kid from McEachern on the South and a kid from Carver-Columbus on the North. No Dalvin Tomlinson from Henry County? Not a single player from Clayton. Whose game is this? I thought it was an All-Star game between NORTH and SOUTH GEORGIA ! Where is Jonquel Dawson of MLK? Mike Davis of Stephenson is surely an ALL-STAR. I would like to know who pick’s this list and what is their motivation. What is the criteria for being chosen? Please enlighten me as I need to know the answers to my many questions.

Some big name kids who did get pick to play opt out to play in this game. So this roster is made up of those players who are good players to play in this game big not the cream of the crop. As you still have the more recoginzable games. Under Armor, East-West, US Army, etc.

I believe the rosters are split based on the regions. Players on teams in regions 1-4 are considered south and players on teams in regions 5-8 are considered north.

Stephenson has 14 D-1 players and NOT 1 makes this All-Star Game? How can the QB and/or WR from MLK NOT make the roster for this game?

Someone dropped the ball, these rosters are terrible in both the way the state was divided and the omission of quite a few players.

Anyone on this blog could have done a better job. I realize they are picking seniors but are we so short of players that north and south players have to play on the other’s team..

Surely these rosters are a joke… really… when are the real ones coming out?
Just call it what it is and name it the “Metro Atlanta All Star game” and leave the rest of us to figure out our own way to reward all-stars.

It’s based on regions. If you’re in regions 1-4, you play for the south. If you’re 5-8, you’re in the north.
re: Walton – Some of Walton’s best players are juniors. Only seniors are eligible. Also, some might be playing in other all-star games. This is probably the top game in Georgia, but there are some national ones. Also, there is a Cobb County all-star game. Some players might want to play in just one and stay closer to home.
Players are decided by the coaches, but they are getting nomations from around the state.

”Does South Georgia start at the Airport?”
If you want to split the state population-wise, it probably would be right around there.

Todd, you’re close: the geographic center of population in GA — meaning there’s an equal no. of people E and W and of this point and N and S of this point — is Jackson, GA, in Butts Co., just SE of Atlanta. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butts_County,_Georgia). That’s for the 8.1M we had in the 2000 census; I expect it’s even further north and further west for the 9+M we had in the 2010 census.

How do you have Burke County and Peach County playing for a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP and they have no players on this list! I guess playing for a ring doesn’t matter in a allstar game! Great job of picking this list coaches that sit around the table and wish they where playing for a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Good picks for the north and south all stars team. But should have chosen that kid from Schley County (Lotravious Minter) over 2000 yards of total rushing with 24 touchdowns.

This is hype !!!! The way they need to do it is pull 3 kids from every high school via that high school coach request and make your rooster up from that… I’m in agreement where are the kids from Clayton and Henry Co. from the southside of town I only see kids from Creekside where’s Westlake, Langston Hughes, Tri Cites, and Banneker… I see a whole lotta schools are missing not to mention their Talent…. The south has the best running back in the state!! Marteze Waller, he has been georgia’s leading rusher 2 years in a row. Setting the school record his junior year with 2155 and breaking it this year with 2300 yards and has been took out of 4 games at halftime. Also is 1 of only 14 in Georgia history 2 finish their high school career with over 6000 yards rushing, and need I mention he beat Hershel Walker’s record by 200 yards.
