Camden County out-points Collins Hill in Florida

Camden County and Collins Hill ventured to Tampa for the Cougar Invitational, which pitted 32 of the best teams from Florida and Georgia against each other. In a surprise, Camden County led Georgia teams by finishing in second place with 192 points ahead of four-time defending Class AAAAA state champion Collins Hill. Brandon (Fla.) won the tournament with 245.50 points. The Wildcats were led by 152-pound Austin Trott (4-0), 195-pound Michael Johnson (4-0) and 220-pound Desmond James (4-0), each of whom won their respective weight class. … The Eagles were led to their fifth-place finish by Sean Russell (106) and Ryan Millhof (113), who each went undefeated and won their weight class. Also placing for Collins Hill were 138-pound Spencer Rickman (4-1) in second, 285-pound Zach Carmin (3-1) also in second, 182-pound Andrew Krawulski (4-1) in third, and 170-pound Matthew Connell (4-2) in fifth. … The Wildcats’ second-place finish came courtesy of their six placing wrestlers: 152-pound Austin Trott (4-0) in first, 195-pound Michael Johnson (4-0) in first, 220-pound Desmond James (4-0) in first, 182-pound Gray Jones (3-1) in second, 285-pound Alex Washington (5-2) in fourth, and106-pound Chris Bartek (4-3) in sixth. The result has brought about a discussion about who the best team in the state is. Collins Hill has laid claim to this title almost undisputedly for the last four-plus years, but Camden County’s performance has at the least provided some interesting conversation on the topic. … Archer also went out of state to the Southern Slam in South Carolina and came away with a first-place finish in the 35-team tournament. Archer is proving to be once again a force on the mats and has garnished the praise of Parkview coach Josh Porter who claimed that Archer’s wrestlers are “beasts.” … In North Georgia, Banks County won Lumpkin County’s King of the Mountain Duals with 225 points. The Leopards were led by four undefeated wrestlers winning their classes, 120-pound Mason Patton (4-0), 126-pound Francisco Hurtado (4-0), 152-pound Wes Faulkner (4-0), and 160-pound Hayden Dilbeck (4-0). Lumpkin finished second with 197.5 points edging out Cherokee, N.C. by half a point behind the performances of brother tandem 106-pound Greg Hilliard (4-0) and 170-pound Michael Hilliard (4-0). … Forest Park won the Clayton County Championships for the first time since 2000 with 133 points beating second-place Morrow (112) and Lovejoy (109). … In the Tiger Classic hosted by Stockbridge, Holy Innocents’ came out on top with 221.5 points edging out McNair’s 216.5 and Shiloh’s 204.5. … Archer will host the Archer Super Duals this upcoming weekend and some of the participants in the tournament will be Mill Creek, Peachtree Ridge, Grayson and Roswell. This tournament will once again provide a tough test for some of the metro-area’s top squads. … Collins Hill is going on the road again, this time to Ohio, for the Ironman Invitational which is one of the premier national tournaments and the Eagles will face some of the top teams from around the country.
