It should also mention, that paulding county missed 57 tackles.. and that they started someone at quarterback who was a wing until this week, due to injured starting qb last week, and backup injured in Wednesday practice. It was definitely not the DC defense pitching the shutout..
Congrats to East! Back on track even with a 3rd string qb as well. Too bad for South Paulding oh so close.. Hiram… Weren’t they supposed to be a playoff team?
Playin games are?
I know PC plays Hiram, North Paulding plays DC, so does that put East playing Villa Rica or South Paulding? Who plays who in region 5 4A lol

I am a little disappointed in Creeksides play this year, thought they would be much better.

Chapel Hill did not secure a play-off spot. The play ins work different in our region. The ones play the fours, and two play the threes. So in reality, like last year I dont expect CH or any team from the south to make the play=offs. Should be Pope, East, Kell, and Sprayberry. The play in games are : East vs. Villa Rica, Kell vs. S. Paulding, Chapel Hill vs. Sprayberry, and Pope vs. Alexander!

@rwdekalb ; Creekside is a little down and will be back I”m sure. Last nights game was not the game for them to wish on, although I know they had hope, especially for the first half. It is hard to win when you can”t score. That Wildcat D is really good!

Your kidding me. Pope wins AAAA Region 5 North and they don’t even rate a mention in the roundup. The other 3 did. Ok, Kell/Sprayberry was a two-fer mention, but really.

I’m with Mutt. Pope had it challenges with its only loss coming in a game where it was missing its quarterback and the county’s leading receiver. Can’t believe we don’t get a mention.

one more comment. This type reporting (and the huge liberal bias in the editorial page) was why I dropped the AJC and picked up the MDJ.

@Mutt and Ron Clack. I think the fact they talked about Kell and East MAY have been due to them going further in the playoffs last year. Both teams making it to the Quarterfinals, while Pope lost in the 1st round. Kells only 2 loses are to Grayson #2 AAAAA and East Paulding #10 AAAA. So they are a strong team. I suggest you worry about getting further in the playoffs and not what’s written. Do that and the rankings and stories will come.

Even though 5AAAA north ended up #1 Pope, #2 East Paulding, #3 Kell. I bet many would have it #1 EP, #2Kell, #3Pope in a poll. Still games to be played so let’s see what happens in the playoffs.

I would be interested in how others outside the division would rank the 3 teams. ATLViking? 4AReg6Fan?

@ Miles Paschal, you must be kidding. Unless the championship game was played on 9-2-11, there are games yet to be played. Nice thought but pipe dreams do burst. I would like to make one observation, to win a football game, you have to score. What happens when a team can’t score? Chances are they lose. The most dominant Defense in the state, the entire state, all classes, is in AAAA. So lets play the early rounds before you give away that trophy.

Ron Clack…quit your whining…it will all play out on the field! All North 5AAAA teams should make it to the playoffs, hope East stays with the QB from last night…too many athletes to mess with it, he desrves the opportunity, true # 2!!!! He is the best option…come on coach, make the right decision…State Championship!!!!!

@2fast4u Im a fan of region 6 4a and having seen EP and pope play and knowing that kell got smashed by EP theres no way you can’t say pope isn’t the # one team in that region. If their qb and county leading reciever had been there kell would have another crushing defeat on there resume.Pope should go farther than any other 4a team in cobb county.

Well, we are almost there again. Region 6AAAA, has Tucker, Marist, Mays, & S.W.D. Mays & S.W.D. are two teams has bragged that they would handled Marist this year, NOTTTTTT! Both two are very weak, and unless they match up against teams with 5 – 5 records, they won’t make it past the first round.
Tucker is region champs, due to the cheap shots they took against our players from Marist. The lack of calls and the lack of support from the Coaches basically broke the teams morale.
That’s o’kay, because they two will meet a team in the playoffs who will due the same to them.
Can’t wait untill next years re-alignment, M.L.K. & Stephenson two teams that will crush Tucker, if the proposed alignment stands. This will be the last year you ever here of Tucker being over-rated region champs.
Good Luck to all other 4A teams in the playoffs.
Marist may go far, and hope we go to state, we have the team do it. I’m just waiting for the brackets, can’t wait to see where Tucker will be, and then I’ll know which team will beat them like Star’s Mill did last year.
Tucker maybe the single most over-rated team in football history.

@Eazy – I think I agree with 2fast4u in his order. Kell and EP is better then Pope and will go deeper in the playoffs. If you want to pull the “What If” card. We can says the same. What it we don’t loss the starting safty in the 1st half? Maybe your go ahead TD pass didn’t happen. What if we don’t loss our starting QB in the 3rd qtr. Maybe we complete the final drive. What it our STAR RB isn’t hurt, playing limit time and not 100%. Maybe we run the field with you.

Point is it dosn’t matter. I said it that night and will again. Good Game Pope. Now the playoffs will tell the storys. I just hope all 3 teams are 100%. IF thats the case Kell and EP will go deeper.

@Dj Kwan post this same view on another blog, so I’ll repeat my response:

I think Dj Kwan is mistaken — and he certainly is an outlier of Marist views. Tucker is a quality team, year after year, and they play the game fair and hard-nosed, the way it is supposed to be. Great respect for that program. SWD is also a good squad, though a little less disciplined and that has caused some problems in the toughest games this year — but SWD has improved every week this year. The top three from region 6 can beat anyone, but there are no guarantees and the playoffs are always a challenge for every team. Mays still has some growing to do, and their undersized lines are a problem, but their QB is excellent and they have the ability to score quickly with their athletes, so could catch somebody off guard.

2fast4u, I worry about whats written because its about respect. Go back through the stories and see if you can find where Pope has gotten any from anyone aside from the bloggers. East Paulding bloggers may have well earned pride in their team, but they at least respected Pope’s abilities and talked about looking forward to that game for weeks.

I don’t play the what if game. Facts Did EP lose valuable players? Yes. Did it affect their play? Absolutely. Would they still have lost if the players were healthy and in? Unknown, because that scenario NEVER played out. Same in the Kell/Pope game. Was Pope without its star players? Yes. Did it affect their play? Absolutely. Would Pope still have lost if they were in and healthy? Unknown, because that scenario NEVER played out. As for last year, would Pope have gone out of playoffs as early if they played the teams that Kell or EP drew? Or would Kell or EP have gone home if they drew the team that Pope drew. Since Pope was unlucky enough to draw the team that took it all you can at least make the argument that Pope had the toughest game, but again the answer has to be it was UNKNOWN, because that scenario NEVER played out.

I wasn’t the one that said What If. I just said I thought Kell and EP were better then Pope. I was pointing out why they gave attention to Kell and EP.

@Eazy
Show me 1 published poll that says diffrent. In all the polls Pope is only ranked in the top 10 once. The Maxwell Ratings they are ranked 10th, and by the way EP is 5th and Kell is 7th in that poll.

@Dj Kwan – Certainly you can’t be a Marist supporter, a fan of region 6, and a follower of GA 4A football with those comments.

@Let the kids play – Currently, all posts have come from supporters of teams not found on your list could be the reason for the lack of discussion.

The 2011 playoffs are fast approaching and MANY views will be answered. Good luck to all representatives.

Tucker, Marist, SWD & Mays will be awaiting the results from region 5 play-in games. This 1st round match up could be one of the best in all of 4A.

Actually I just realized something. Out of the 13 games/26 teams mentioned above, 5 of the games and 10 of the teams are all Region 5 (North and South). Wow. So 10 out of 14 teams in Region 5 make the list… What about the other 4? Alexander had a bye week for 10/28, New Manchester is listed as not playing a region schedule and I can’t find a game for them last week. So all Region 5 teams that were playing in both North and South sub-regions made the roundup. Oh wait… Pope didn’t and Hiram was playing against Pope so they didn’t get mentioned either. Of course if I was in another Region in the area I might be even more annoyed at amount of coverage Region 5 was getting in general over mine.
