Could be Warner Robins Demons but being #5 in a USA Today poll is not nearly as hard as being #1 in the final AAAAA Georgia rankings. Got a loooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go before this one is determined. Here are my top 3. Grayson, Camden and Colquit. Jury is still out on Region 2 and 5 till someone from those regions proves they can man up all the way through the playoffs. Region 2 may not survive the first round considerably unscathed.

YO – I believe we’ll take at least 3 out of 4 from Region 2-AAAAA. Especially if Lowndes makes it to the dance and not Tift.

Wouldn’t it be great it we were able to match up with Region 6-AAAAA? It’s supposed to be a rotating thing in the playoffs, but that matchup has never happened. Heck, IMO Region 3-AAAAA would match up good with 6.

AVikingFan we will be there instead of Tift. We got our Tift wake up call last year. A lesson learned. I do see Region 1 taking 3 from Region 2 in the first round also. If we end up 3rd or 4th then look out Region 2.

The r1 vs r2 first round of the playoffs looks to be some good matchups in what ever combination. Lowndes should definatly beat Tift this week. In doing that we know what 4 will be going to the playoffs, just not the order as Colquitt still has Coffee and Valdosta to play, With a Colquitt win over Coffee, the Valdosta game will determine 1st and 2nd, while Lowndes and Coffee make preperations to travel to Atlanta. With Stephenson and MLK sharing a stadium, is it a coin flip to see who plays friday or sat, or will one of the games be played at aother location in Decalb county

Brookwood High School’s website says they will host Grayson Friday night. I bet Fred and all the Grayson finds out “where Brookwood is at”. If you haven’t seen the video you need to watch it. Smart kids at their best! (I bet Grayson’s coach doesn’t like it though!)

@ bksmith…lol keep telling yourself that about Grayson. Surely you jest! Camden plays the weakest region schedule in the state and they roll through the playoffs consistently. Grayson plays in a very tough region and they have rolled through the playoffs the last 5 years as well. Title Rings separate Grayson from Camden and Lowndes, but they are rising incredibly fast. I think coach Conn would agree with you that “grayson is same as they always have been.” You know Lowndes couldn’t beat em, even with the temper tantrum after the game :) 1-1 vs Camden ain’t to shabby either. Grayson is a monster program and the rings will be coming sooner than you think.

High school football ratings a fantastic hook for selling papers. Please, Buford, PLEASE, start scheduling for your talent. If you have to leave the state, plenty of schools around the country do it. Just don’t play one or two teams each season that can stay with you for a half. Grayson vs. Buford in the Dome…what a dream.

The Grayson-Brookwood game is at Grayson. Last year Brookwood students with a Grayson student (go figure!) vandalized the school with graffiti on the driveways and on the school and signs on the field. You could say that “Brookwood, where you at?” is our more dignified response. :-D

@bksmith14 – You can keep on believing that all you want. I bet you haven’t seen the team in person except maybe when Lowndes came to us and we won or when we went to Valdosta and won. I find it interesting that you tout your schedule and how much better everyone is than the scores and W/L records indicate and then don’t consider the same thing for us.

Let’s look at common opponents. I normally don’t put a lot of stock in that but you seem to.

Brookwood – 21 Archer – 19
Grayson – 34 Archer -7 Advantage Grayson
Brookwood – 6 Dacula 20
Grayson – 34 Dacula 14 Advantage Grayson
Brookwood – 23 Parkview 19
Grayson – 36 Parkview 0 Advantage Grayson

The rest of the games are closer in comparative results so I won’t list them here as they are basically even. Feel free to look them up if you care to.

Personally, I don’t put a lot of store in comparisons like this as in our region, most any team can jump up and bite you big time. We have a huge respect for Brookwood. I think this is our biggest game until the playoffs. They are a strong team with a history of strong competition and are, after all, the defending state champs. Until they get put out of the playoffs anyone that takes them for granted is making a big mistake.

I think we can win this game as we are looking really good now. In fact, I hope we aren’t peaking to soon. I still recognize that is is a game played by hormonal teenage boys so I can’t/won’t say with certainty. Ask me about 11:00PM Friday and I can be more certain! :-)

HGHS09, Yes Grayson is 1-1 vs Camden, but Camden won when it counted, during the playoffs. Lowndes as well. What also separates them is scheduling high caliber programs, that region is not as tough as you would have everyone to believe. Parkview has been down since it won 3 titles, Brookwood has 1 title. Dacula has no idea where they would like to play, AAAAA or AAAAAA makeup your mind. S/C Gwinnett are not consistant. Well Berkmar, Archer and Shiloh rank with the Savannah schools, but with more of a student population. Grayson is similar to Stephenson, win a title folks. You guy’s kill me with the Camden plays in a weak region stuff. So the excuse is Camden plays in a weak region so they now roll into the playoffs. So teams that play in a stronger region do not get stronger during the season? The logic you guys use tells me that since Camden plays in a weak region they will not be tested enough to win against teams in a stronger region. So if Camden wins in the playoffs against stronger region teams, what does that really say about that region? Okay, I hear it, these teams beatup on one another, so when it comes to the playoffs they are not at full strength. Not buying it, all teams suffer injuries during the year. One day folks are going to give Camden thier just due without excuses. If I played in a strong region and made the playoffs as a 1 or 2 seed, I would be concerned about losing to a school like Camden who plays in a much weaker region, that means as a coach I have not prepared my team to face a team like Camden. Poll rankings are just that.

fred…………….i dont want to hear it. Grayson has a weak schedule……….brookwood is not the team they were last year either and parkview is what 4-5? 4-4? arhcer or bermar……..central gwinnett……south gwinnett is 2-7 this year. Yall have really played 1 GOOD team and they are not even 5aaaaa. Kell and won 7-0. Grayson gets trounced again this year in qtrs or semi…..as always

Stevenson will choke again. Lack of discipline.

Georgia has as much talent as any state in the country but the teams in Georgia don’t usually do well against teams outside the state because there are so small counties splitting all the talent up.

Hey bksmith14, we are 8-0 against our opponents this year and are guaranteed 1st or 2nd in our region of 9 teams. Last I heard, you are struggling to be 4th in your region of 5 teams. I believe I remember you crowing about beating S Gwinnett early and now they aren’t as good as you touted them to be. Oh and including this year, this Grayson team has gone further and done better than your storied program has since 2008, the earliest that any kids playing today could have been a part of the team. Hmmmmm……no wonder you don’t want to hear about it!

Fred,
Grayson as been this way before, yes since 2007 they have made some deep runs, but they have never sealed the deal. 2007 loss to Camden, 2008 loss to PTR, 2009 loss to Newnan and 2010 loss to Colquitt, these are all great accomplishments for a program that came to AAAAA in 2004. Some of the schools you have beaten this year is nothing to crow about. Lowdnes maybe the best 3-4 in the playoffs who could run the table. I would be willing to say that Grayson would not want to pklay them in the 1st round. Enjoy your ranking, but don’t get carried away with yourself. I still think that 2012 or 2013 will be they year for Grayson to win it all, which happens to coincide with the other top programs in Ga with a huge talented class those 2 years. This year in AAAAA is still up for grabs, whoever get’s hot in the playoffs and stay there will win it. A balanced team offensively will win AAAAA this year. All of the defenses are good and have proven they can play. Most of the defenses are designed to stop the run, to make teams pass only. Playoffs should be great in Ga this year.

Bless your heart, Fred — Grayson has done more destruction to Brookwood’s field and facilities than on the flip side! Brookwood goes to their school ONE TIME and that is all you care to comment about?

Fred, have you seen Brookwood’s response video? It shows why they are on top in ALL things (education being first and foremost!) and provides a small glimple at their trophy case. Even if Brookwood is defeated, they are still TOPS in the county for much more than just football!

Parents buy homes in the community so their kids can attend Brookwood for an excellent education — the rest is just gravy! :)

@Conspiracy – We certainly have a more balanced offense than I have ever seen. GHSF Daily said today we are getting about 2/3 of offense from the run and 1/3 from the pass. I have seen us pass more in one game this year than we did in complete seasons previously. It will be fun to watch for sure. With the exception of 2010 and Colquit, I know what happened and what caused our losses. Last year I think we looked past Colquit because we wanted to meet Brookwood in the Dome and we paid for it. I think we have a good shot at the Dome this year but as we all say, you have to play the games to know for sure!

@”@ Fred” – I can’t speak to other years but I was involved with the cleanup last year so I know a little bit about it. “Bless your heart, Fred” LOL! A true Southern response and I love it! For what it is worth, Brookwood is 3 times older than Grayson and I would expect them to have more trophies in their case. I did try to watch the video last night but it is a little difficult for me to hear and understand the words as they are not as clear. I plan to watch it again and hopefully my baby boomer hearing loss won’t keep me from enjoying it. I am very familiar with the education achievements and the circumstances and demographics that help to make that possible. I actually live closer to Brookwood than Grayson and have been in the community for over 15 years.

It is really funny how many folks are under the impression that I don’t respect Brookwood or Lowndes or Camden or other programs. Nothing could be further from the truth! Go back and look and I always respect the other programs. I don’t always respect other bloggers positions but I always respect the programs. After all, these are high school kids out playing a team sport. In the end, I very much respect their efforts whether they be a championship team or the cellar dwellers.

I don’t remember Grayson ever getting trounced in th playoffs. A last paly of the game blocked field goal by Alec Ogletree for Newnan, Colquitt by 7, I think PRidge was overtime and came down to a kick. Camden at their place was the biggest loss.
I do remember Lowndes can’t miss team with Greg Reid coming to town (when it counted) and gaining 1 first down for the whole game. I remember going to Valdosta and listeneing to their students yelling we had no chance as we were walking into the stadium. Of course they were pretty quiet after the 1st quarter. You see the teams from Lowndes have yet to ever beat Grayson (when it counted) or any other time.

Region 1-AAAAA will represent south ga very well in the playoffs..i see all 4 teams making it to the second round..the only teams im worried about are Camden and Grayson..but all in all high school football is about any given friday..and the coaches play a big part..Camden, Grayson, and Colquitt have great coaches in my opinion..not much is said about play-calling..the players can only do so much..but if the coach calls the wrong play at the right time that could be the game..I never though i would say it but McPhearson is “trippin”..his coaching strategy is very passive..and the defense is geared around Josh Clemons making all the takles..but what good are a bunch of takles when the other team is driving the ball down and scoring every drive..Lowndes’ defense needs to get more aggressive if the wanna win a championship..and i dont even wanna talk about that overly predictible run game..the OC needs to come up with a different scheme..gotta do it for ya fans!!!!!!

Georgia does have good football. I happen to think that the kids can play with many teams around the country. Some teams that are ranked nationally would be also rans in the state of georgia. These schools that they show on ESPN and other stations are a little, if not alot overrated. Maybe some are as good as advertised but from what I have seen, the state of georgia would do very well against out of state competition. I would like to see a national championship, not mythical, but actual. I know this will never happen, still I give GEORGIA the edge. Best high school football in the southeast.

I agree that some if not a lot of teams maintain their ranking because they always have been ranked. It would be way cool to see some of these “power houses” play against some of our strong teams. I think we (Ga) would do quite well.

Yo & doug region 2AAAAA is much stronger than you give them credit for., The Jury is not out on Stephenson, Stephenson has lost in the first round 2nd & 3rd in the playoff; they usually loose by a final field goal, that will not happen this year, MLK has a D1 Qtr. back & receiver and a monster defense, EC & Newnan can beat any team and will rise to the occasion in this years playoffs; can’t wait for the playoffs to begin and would like for you all to retract your statements about region 2AAAAA.
