The Brookwood boys and girls each won their respective meets at the Gwinnett County Championships Saturday at Peachtree Ridge. The Brookwood boys placed six runners in the top 10 and compiled a winning score of just 26 points. Morgan Malanoski finished second overall for the Broncos in 15:36, followed by third-place teammate Gabriel Gomez with a time of 15:50. Peachtree Ridge star Josh Brickell won the race in 15:30. … Caroline Kissel, QuanDra Shanks and Ashley Buda all placed in the top 10 for Brookwood, which scored 46 points to the host Lions’ 81. Chloe Whitworth of Collins Hill, Katherine Yost of Norcross and Lauren Kelly of Peachtree Ridge finished first through third, respectively. … Milton’s girls defended their home turf at the Run for the Eagle Cup last Saturday. Annie Kelly, Blair Gelb and Maddie Butzer finished in the top 10 as the Eagles held off Lakeside, Evans 64 points to 70. Alex Cameron of Dunwoody captured top individual honors in 20:08 while Pope’s Molly Schenck came in second with a time of 20:27. … In the same meet, the Lakeside, Evans boys had enough firepower at the top of their lineup to unseat the home team 45 points to 60. The victorious Panthers featured the No. 1 finisher in Sid Vaughn, who crossed the line in 17:30. Nathan Reich, Ryan Kelly and Alex Marshall recorded top-10 finishes for second-place Milton. … Woodward Academy’s boys once again showcased their impressive young talent, winning the Sandy Creek Fall Classic last Saturday. Freshman phenom Drew Sands ran a 16:33, which was good for second place individually behind Brad Hort of McIntosh. Sophomore River Holifield finished third for the War Eagles, who also put senior Chris Burnette in the top 10. Hort’s performance helped McIntosh finish runner-up in the team competition ahead of Starr’s Mill and Sandy Creek. Sands, meanwhile, has broken the 17:00 mark on three straight occasions for Woodward. He also clocked a 16:17 at the Bob Blastow Early Bird and a 16:56 at the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational. … Walton swept both races at last Saturday’s Warpath Invitational, hosted by Cherokee. Brian Sullivan prevailed in 15:51 to lead the Walton boys past Marist and St. Pius in a 25-team field. The Raiders also boasted the girls’ individual champion, as Alexa Womack clocked a time of 19:00. Walton finished ahead of Woodstock and Roswell. … The biggest race for several metro Atlanta schools this weekend is the Atlanta Classic at Douglasville’s Clinton Nature Preserve. Attending teams include Brookwood, Marietta, Marist, St. Pius, Westminster and Woodward. … Another Saturday showdown on the trails will come at Blessed Trinity, which is hosting the Clash of the Titans. Among those schools joining Blessed Trinity on the entry list are Buford, Cross Keys, Decatur, Greater Atlanta Christian, North Oconee and Pope.
