In an 18-5 win over Lithonia on Sept. 7, Chamblee shortstop/pitcher Kelly Strychalski drove in seven runs in one inning. For the game, Strychalski was 4-for-4 with a homer and two triples. “It was pretty amazing,” said Chamblee coach Adrienne Keathley. “I would say for last week Kelly Strychalski was probably our MVP.” This week Chamblee continues region play at Mays on Wednesday. … Greater Atlanta Christian won the Shaw Invitational this past weekend in Columbus despite dropping its first game to Harlem 9-6. After the loss, the Spartans rolled on to win four straight games over the weekend to claim the title. Of their four wins, a 4-3 revenge victory over Harlem sparked GAC’s momentum. During the tournament, Sierra Lawrence finished 7-for-15 with three homers, five RBIs and nine runs scored while Natalie deLatour went 10-for-16 with two RBIs and four runs scored. She also earned the victory in two of the wins. … Brookwood has won 12 straight games behind the solid pitching of Mercer commit Brandi Jones and Rachel Hill. Six of those wins were shutouts. “We swung the bat pretty well with some timely hits and pitching wise we have been outstanding,” said head coach Bill Batchelor. Against South Gwinnett last Thursday, Jones and Hill combined for a no-hitter and struck out 15 to keep the Broncos undefeated in region play. … Sticking with Cobb, Lassiter defeated Archer on Monday 6-0 behind Mackenzie Kayler’s second two-hit shutout in the past three games. Besides her dominance in the circle against the Tigers, she went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, a pair of doubles and five RBIs. Lassiter will finish up region play this Thursday at home against rival Walton after defeating Marietta 15-0 last night. … Wesleyan junior catcher CaraMia Tsirigos announced over the weekend that she will play her collegiate ball at Indiana University. Tsirigos is an all-state, all-region and all-county player for the Wolves. … Buford hosted and won the Buford Invitational over the weekend. In the championship game, the Wolves defeated Union County 4-1 in a rematch of last season’s Class AA championship game. They will continue play on Thursday against Grayson. … Pope continued their hot start by defeating North Paulding on a squeeze play. Ellie Viland drove in the first of two in the eighth on a squeeze play; the second occurred on an overthrow to the pitcher. The Greyhounds also defeated Hiram in a region matchup 6-0 last night and will play East Paulding on Thursday to try and remain the lone team atop Region 5B-AAAA.
