Top performances from Week 1

Each Tuesday, GHSF Daily will report on some of the best individual performances of the previous week.

*Darlington QB Brad Butler was 7-of-8 passing for 153 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 39 yards in a 35-14 victory over Sonoraville. Butler played only one series in the second half, when he had a 37-yard pass called back for a penalty.

*Fannin County senior Blake Henry rushed for 192 yards on 16 carries and sophomore Peyton Satterfield ran for 193 on 23 in a 34-28 overtime victory over Murphy, N.C.

*Gordon Lee RB Adam Vandiver rushed for 110 yards on seven carries and a touchdown, made seven tackles and forced a fumble in a 25-7 victory over Silverdale Academy.

*Grovetown RB Jamal Cummings rushed for 146 yards, scored two touchdowns, converted a key fourth-and-3 play in the fourth quarter and intercepted a pass in a 28-24 victory over Greenbrier.

*Hancock Central RB Deonte Franklin rushed for 200 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries in a 34-21 victory over Greene County. It was Hancock Central’s third victory against Greene County in 37 games in a series that began in 1972.

*Kell LB Chris Gaines had 13 tackles, three for losses, in a 7-0 loss to Grayson.

*Lowndes DB Tiquan Lang intercepted two passes and returned a kickoff for a touchdown in a 45-13 victory over South Gwinnett.

*Luella DE Jason Carr had 12 tackles, 2.5 tackles for losses, a sack and five QB hurries in a 25-10 upset victory over Villa Rica, which beat Luella 41-8 last season.

*McEachern QB Trent Thompson was 22-of-42 passing for 305 yards and a touchdown in a 26-17 victory over North Gwinnett. Tray Fletcher had seven of the receptions for 94 yards.

*Norcross LB Tommy Tate had 11 tackles, five hits behind the line of scrimmage, a sack and a QB hurry in the 35-7 victory over Dacula.

*North Gwinnett WR Chad Scott had six receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the 26-17 loss to McEachern.

*South Atlanta LB Chris Gardner was in on 20 tackles for South Atlanta in a 14-8 victory over Druid Hills.

*Stone Mountain’s Fred Scott (four carries, 129 yards) and William Parker (18-126) each surpassed 100 yards rushing and scored a touchdown in a 28-6 victory over Jackson of Atlanta.

*Walton RB Tyren Jones, a transfer from Lassiter, rushed for 213 yards on 23 carries and scored on runs of 80 and 39 yards in a 26-14 victory over Peachtree Ridge. SS Daron Blaylock had 11 solo tackles, and OL Harrison Davis had seven pancake blocks.

#2 langs performance for lowndes was one that will be hard to top. the kid played lights out. glad he is on our team and not anyone elses

Walton RB Tyren Jones did play outstanding
Also Wlaton’s Daron Blaylock looked real good.

The QB from McEachern looked extremely impressive, as well a the RB’s from Walton and Ptree Ridge. Also, the Ptree QB looked pretty good, if only the receivers would have helped him out.

Tyren Jones from Walton put a serious buzz in the dome. After the 1st quarter, everytime he touched the ball the crowed jumped up thinking he might score. Good looking running back.

I agree Jones from Walton is a great back. Colleges shoud be lining up to sign this kid. Walton looked greaat so did McEachern there should be some good football played this year.
