Lowndes replaces Brookwood at No. 1; Collins Hill, Marist, Lovett enter Top 10

Lowndes is the new No. 1 team in Class AAAAA this week. Brookwood, which lost 14-6 to Lassiter, became the first No. 1 team in AAAAA to lose its opening game since Lowndes lost to Warner Robins in 2000.

In other changes, Collins Hill (AAAAA), Marist (AAAA) and Lovett (AA) entered the rankings. Brookwood, Brunswick and Thomasville fell out.

one thing i will say about camden is that they do have a cupcake region shedule no doubt. The win those games though the way they should, by beating those team by 5 or more tds. they play some tough teams outside if threir rregion ……like hoover a few years back, sta, miami central, so on and so on. However , with this said, i would like to see them get in the region with lowndes, valdosta, colquitt, etc. i do not believe they wd be goin undefeated every year in tour region. Camden a good team, no doubting that. They are right up there with lowndes and there have been some classic camden and lowndes battles the last decade. i wd love to be ablet to see one of those games during the regular season

A region with Lowndes, Camden, Colquitt, and Valdosta would/should be considered the best region in america.

It would be nice to have Camden in 1AAAAA, it could work for football season as they only play once a week. The problem would be that all these schools have other sports and travel time and the amount of time the kids would have to miss in school not to mention the expense of fuel to travel and lodging for away events. Figuring Coffee would be the closest and roughly 100 miles between them across the swamp. Kingsland/St Mary’s is basicaly a suburb to Jacksonville Fl. Another way to see it is say Grayson having to travel to Waner Robins for all there region away games. It would make for some interesting Friday nights though, but unfortunatly logisticly I dont see it working in the long run

cchswildcat86….. it would be nice for Football but to much a drain on the other sports. Personally I would like to see 1 or 2 of the Houston county schools come back to 1AAAAA, or even Lee County the next time they redistrict the schools. Like it was when AAAA was the top classification, even if we have to play in sub-regions. More local rivalries makes for good games on Friday Nights, not to mention local rivalries and braggin rights

Thanks for validating my point. All of your talent is one pool!!!! Combine the two student bodies the walton rb came from with the one he left and see the numbers are pretty close to S.GA teams. Cobb finally realized what other successful programs was doing and implemented alot of changes. The offseason conditioning is better. Speed and agility training is better and now some schools offer weight training. S.Ga had it right year’s ago but Cobb has caught on.

Won’t touch that last comment!!! GHSA is pretty firm with enforcing the rules.

Walton’s rb has bounced all over the place since youth. If a player moved from Florida into Lowndes your point would be what. I’m sure that happens!! Not only do you have two schools to attend but you can pull from a different state. Wow! I coached and live in Cobb so I might have a slight advantage over you. My point is…… that Cobb is on the right track athletically district wide. Is showed when we beat Lowdnes and Camden Co. Valdosta barely got away. S.Ga has had alot of success but N.GA is making it’s move.

GA Fan, Camden County has less than 50, 000 people! If you look at it in a balanced way, it comes out to be pretty much the same……..One school per 50k population. Besides, Camden only dominates region 3 in football, not the other sports! And I have a theory on that, Camden focuses on football, the other schools don’t. Savannah has always been a basketball town! And that’s where they choose to place their support. When I was in HS, Bradwell was a state power in football, it’s not Camden’s fault that they’ve allowed their program to drop to where it is now. From my understanding, when Camden came to region 3 they were supposed to be the 3rd or 4th best team in the region! But the county made a concerted effort to be the best! Now that they’ve accomplished that, everyone outside of the region has a complaint, especially North Georgia. It would be different if we were dealing with similar populations, but North Georgia dwarfs’ South Georgia in population!

@bksmith14, I must say a got a chuckle out of your statement about Lowndes and Coulquit playing the playoffs. With only 5 teams, it is a sure thing that 4 of them will be playing! :-) I know what you meant but I still got an audible chuckle.

We all talk about the regions and what South Ga does vs what North Ga does. I been a part of those discussions. The reality is that the schools have the populations they have and are located where they are. The Metro schools deal with more non-school opportunities for the kids plus regular redistricting and the South schools deal with geography and population flight. Each side has valid points that will never be reconciled. I say we all play the hand dealt us and move on. I promise to try not to bring the issue up again and focus on the play of the game and not the talent pool. Except for that one metro school that everyone knows about…… ;-) Nah, just kidding, I won’t even bring them up again! How about the rest of us?

I think the S.GA folks are hitting the panic button b/c of the shift in talent. Year’s ago, the thought of N.GA competeing with S.GA would have made them chuckle. But reality has set in and S.GA folks realize N.GA is for real. They rely heavily on these teams doing good to have something to talk about. Improvements to 75……

Brookwood scored 24 points on 18 yards vs. Colquitt County in the Championship game. Colquitt County had over 200 more yards of offense. Mistakes cost teams. Mistakes cost Colquitt County in the dome and Brookwood won. 52 points would not have been scored (by Brookwood) had the Packers not turned the ball over at crucial times. The Packers did and Brookwood won. Not making excuses, just stating facts. The best team doesn’t always win.

GoPackGo, i agree with your statement. it should have and would have been lowndes playing in the dome if not for one mistake last year against collins hill. It wd have been a rematch of the 37-27 game we had when we beat yall. Lowndes would have beat brookwood. We would have stopped their run game and they and the coach knows it. Collins hill was more suited to beat lowndes and we should have won that game if not for the one mistake. Everyone can jump on me for saying this but i feel lowndes had the best team last year and funny thing is we were young except for a few players, especially on the o and d line. yea we had hunter, orta, and durden. I am not mentioning parker bc i dont feel he was all that good. just stating my opinion. Our secondary was overrated, names dont meat titles, players with the right attitudes with names is better than ones with names without the right attitudes. i have talked to coaches, not naming particularly which one, but he knows. He said the group we have now reminds him of the group we had in 04, 05. LOOK OUT!!

GA Fan — I agree there is somewhat of a shift in talent in Georgia. In the last 4 years Camden has won more games than any other AAAAA team. Lowndes and NG are tied for second, with Grayson coming in 4th. That’s 2 for North GA and two for South GA. Up to about 10 years ago at least 3 out ofthe top 4 would have been from South GA. I could throw in NSWR because they were in AAAAA for two years and they’ve won more games than NG or Lowndes the past 4 years (48), but that would skew the numbers. Besides they call themselves “Middle GA” instead of being a part of God’s Country.

Yes you are making excuses. The best team that night won the game! If your team has a bad night and make errors (forced or not) they weren’t the better team that night. Every team that made the playoffs could “state the same facts” and put the shoe on the winning foot. Just let it go, move on, a new year is here! If you keep looking at the past you can’t see the future.

If any of you are old enough, I grew up when Valdosta and Avondale were going back and forth in the early/mid 60s. I wasn’t in high school until a few years later but Avondale then was like Valdosta/Lowndes is now with the community support. That was why I took great pleasure in last year’s Grayson/Valdosta game. The point of this is that the back and forth has been going on literally for decades! The tide swings both ways periodically. Right now, there are several N Ga programs that are doing well. Valdosta and Lowndes have been the programs to measure yourself against. In the early 2000s, it was Parkview. These things change. I’m glad the overall level of football is as strong as it is. I know I see a lot of really good football and I LOVE IT!!!! Let’s all do what we can to support our programs and keep the rivalries strong.

@cchswildcat86, I find it hard to evaluate the offense. I hear things that make me think we haven’t seen anything yet. When I look at the Kell game though, it does worry me. I would have thought we would have tried to do more even if we were holding back for some reason. These early scrimmages and showcase games come so early that I don’t know that you can read *anything* into them. “Official” practices have only been going on for a month or so. I really believe we will get MUCH better and I hope it is sooner than later. I make no bones about it, I’m a dyed in the wool Grayson fan. I don’t talk to the coaches that much but I do hear things and I do go to all the games. I don’t have a kid in the program as my daughter is into other sports. ;-) I just try to help the program any way I can.

Might be Brookwood scored 24 points off of only 18 yards because that is all the field they had to cover. Who is to say if they would have had 180 yards they would not have still scored? I really don’t recall Colquit stopping them to much from where ever they started on the field. In fact that had to be the 2 worst defenses to ever play in a Ga. championship game. I say Ga. championship game because we all know they would have been the 2 best defenses if they would have been playing in Texas.

McEachern had 9 fumbles last year against Pebblebrook and lost 6 the score could have been pretty bad! Pebblebrooke will have some good players just not a lot of them. They will probably only travel with 45 players which wont be much of a match for the mighty Lowndes. The score will be the same this year as it was last year.
I wish your Vikings had a better opponent this week to better prepare you for McEachern next week. Hopefully Lowndes doesn’t get too over confident with two decisive wins leading into next weeks grudge match!!!
I am soo glad that the game is at your stadium it will make for an unbelievable environment for a high school football game. For all you Viking fans I only have a few questions for you:
1. Does that “concrete palace” of yours sell out, are we going to have to get there early in order to get tickets? If so what time? I herd that the game wasn’t going to start untill 8:30.
2. Will all us McEachern fans have to do the unthinkable and buy some Vikings apparel, so we can blend in with all the kin folk and gain access to the so called palace?:)
3. When McEachern comes into your house and has players “actually” score, referees actually call a fair game, no clock malfunctions of any kind, and ”WINS” will you be able to accept it? Will you be able to say something civilized like “Congratulations McEachern you beat us fair and square”?
If your Vikings can beat this McEachern team I will difinately give props and agree with your #1 ranking. I honestly think it is going to be a unbelievable game!!!

Gold and Blue , if mceachern comes in and beats lowndes fair and square , then i will tip my hat.

i expect a great game no doubt. the winner of this game will be the winner of just another regular season game. sure the team that wins will have bragging rights and be considered a serious title contender but i expect both teams win or lose to make a good run come playoff time.

mceachern fans, i would get to valdosta by 4, go eat a good meal at texas rd house off exit 18 in valdosta or go one more exit down and eat at austins steak house at exit 16. if you are looking for seafood then there is a red lobster on exit 18. when you get off exit 18 go left to go to roadhouse or red lobster. also off that exit to the left are applebees, outback, longhorns, mcds, wendys, taco bell, chik fila, sonnys bq. if you want to eat at a place you cant eat at up in cobb county and get some of the best bbq you can eat then get off exit 22 north valdosta rd exit and go left about 3 or 4 miles and look for the smokin ping on the left. good prices and have the best pork chops i have eat. i would try to arrive at ballgame by 530 or 6 do a lil talking and tailgating. you dont want to be trying to park at 7 pm. fans will be nice and friendly. 90% of them anyways.

refs are usually good at lowndes ballgames. clock never an issue
band will be loud and play as much as refs will allow. crowd will be loud every down

stadium sells out for valdosta and lowndes games. it sold out back in 2008 when northside warner robins came to town and got whupped. i will not ever forget that game. northside was loaded. 7-7 at halftime and then the gregg reid show took over. of course we had other players score and make plays but he played one heck of a game in that 2nd half.

any more questions, just ask.
