Milton High School has played for three straight state championships in basketball, winning in 2010.
They will be a top contender for a fourth consecutive appearance after the No. 1 point guard in Georgia transferred to Milton.
Charles Mann, who has been one of the state’s hottest college basketball prospects since UConn offered in late April, has switched from Union Grove to Milton for his senior year of basketball. Mann has nearly 20 offers, including Georgia Tech and UGA.
The 6-foot-5, 193-pound Mann will give Milton the state’s top outside perimeter, also featuring swingman Evan Nolte (committed to Virginia) and dunk artist Shaq Johnson (committed to Auburn).
Mann discussed the move with the Clayton News Daily’s Derrick Mahone:
“I’m just ignoring all that negative stuff and concentrating on playing basketball,” Mann said via cellphone Tuesday afternoon.
That’s good.
As the saying goes, haters will hate.
Mann says the move was job related. In my opinion, he owes no one any explanation.
It seems a good move that one of the top rising players will now get to play for a potentially nationally-ranked caliber program that will play a national schedule.
The scholarship offers are there and will continue to be whether he transferred or not. Now, he gets to play with a contender his senior season.
Thoughts? Is Milton now the team to beat for the state championship?

In this case the ‘haters’ were justified. This (although talented) kid ‘texted’ his UGHS coach as he was peeling out of the parking lot on the last day of school to show him up and say in a ‘paraphrased manner’ “Up your’s coach, I won’t be back next year – come see me at Milton”. Better make sure you have your toothbrush up in Milton kid, I assure you this story is far from ‘over’! Hope you and Milton both get what you deserve. Where there’s smoke…………………..

wonder who got the job for them? wouldn’t have been more of a challenge your senior year to try to lead your team to a state title rather than “transferring” to another school that has already bought talent? it’s like a high school LeBron James here and hopefully the result will be the same

Who cares if the kid transfered. If he wants to play for Milton and the family has followed the GHSA rules, meaning that their primary family residence is now in Milton’s School district, then lets play basketball. How abouit this does anyone know how many Metro Atlanta kids were drafted last night?

Of course, Milton will be favored to win. They just added another scorer, which increases their chances to win. I expect that they will get another key role player to transfer to the North Fulton School. You cannot, however, discount the defending Three-Time State Champion Miller Grove. They lose two three starters (Henry Brooks, Davonte Provost and Thomas Marshall), but return a solid core of players led by the state’s real TOP Prospect and snubbed Mr. Georgia player Toney Parker. Along with Parker, MG has D-I prospects Brandon Morris and sharpshooter Justin Colvin to lead the way. The backcourt will be replaced by Devon Provost and a slew of front runners for the point guard position led by Christian Houston. No transfers, thus far, just building guys from the 9th grade on up…
SWD will be another contender, also. Shaq Goodwin and Jordan Price will be a dynamic duo, that will be assisted by a few experienced players that will make SWD a threat in AAAA.
Remember, MG finished 33-1 and No. 3 in the last National Poll. #Onlyafan

Hey these two schools are in different classes so they both are front runners for a return to the championship game. But never under estimate other DEKALB county teams that will make a great run. AAAA SWD (i pick them to beat MG twice this year, but loose the one that counts) and COLUMBIA. THE REAL TEAM OF DEKALB COUNTY. MG will play a national schedule this year, lets see how they come out, it could take its toll on the players and coaching staff. It will be interesting i hear they only have one coach that works at the school, the others just show up for games, (how does that work), and is TONY PARKER transfering to MILTON also????

Well, you can say what you want to, but, I coached against Milton last Summer and here is what I saw: a highly talented group of individuals who played as a disciplined TEAM. This was a Summer game with nothing on the line and Milton played as if it were the State Championship. Total unselfishness with egos under control. What player would not want to be part of that? I wouldn’t bet against Milton this year.

Milton Dad and Dad’s Back –
How dare you bring up something as if your team/players/coach were perfect. Why was your Vandy commit suspended the first games of the season? Oh yeah – thief. Why is your HC banned from Gwinnett County Schools for life? Oh yeah – immoral.
Your HC is the single most despised individual in GA HS Athletics today. Why? Because he cheats in his sleep. Showing up at AAU tournaments in full PE gear and rings? Speaking to every kid that walks by? It is disgusting.
Nike school? Great. Norcross has been a Nike school for 10+ years now.
Couldn’t win with Jeremy Lamb? Lamb was the best player on an overachieving team. You lost (choked) with Mr. Basketball and a McDonald’s kid. Were out-coached, out-played, out-hustled, and out-classed. Always have been.
Are you proud of your HC when he taunts other teams student sections? Or curses as fans? If so, good luck to you and the children you think you are mentoring / raising.

Columbia, the best team in DeKalb. If we were referring to the past, you might have a legit argument. Nowadays, its Miller Grove, 2a. Columbia 2.b SWD. Like your predictions last season, your prognosis this season is wrong. How can a National Schedule wear the coaching staff and players down.. Sir, the schedule will be parallel to the previous three seasons, where MG has played a National Schedule. If anything, the level of competition will help them in the playoffs..
Don’t get me wrong, Columbia is a talented school, but Miller Grove is on top right now because of head-to-head match-ups and overall performance.

Korea, people have the right to move and join that districts school for what ever reason they desire, everyone is following the rules, if their any violation with all the press milton gets something would have been proven and done about it, the fact that there is nothing means unless rules change there is nothing anyone can do about families moving and wanting the best for their children no matter what that might be or how others on this post feel about it!

NoLion, let’s at least give the Milton players a chance to play a year of college. Those players lead Milton in AAAAA to three straight state championship games. As sophs they lost to Wheeler, and won it as juniors; then beat Oak Hill, Winter park twice, and Norcross during the season. It’s hard to beat the same team four times in a row. Norcross deserves all the credit though for not giving up when they were down late. They wanted it just a little more.

I’ve been saying this for years if Milton, Norcross and Wheeler didn’t recruit players from the city and all over the metro the communities that these 3 schools are located in would not even produce winning teams let alone championship caliber teams. That’s why 5A basketball in Georgia is a joke. The fact that a school like Milton located on the FORSYTH COUNTY BORDER(remember HOSEA) is able to field a team like that, in a community the total opposite is a travesty!

Zone3canE how naive u r. What on earth do u think is going on at Columbia (do u think all those players actually live there>); Miller Grove (Parker was in the Redan district); SW Dekalb (Pricethird school). How bout South Atlanta (second best player last year transferred from Meadowcreek). In metro Atlanta all schools get transfers for numerous reasons. It’s all relevant. Believe it or not, some folks actually move for better academic opportunities. What do these schools that get good players offer? A good program? Good academics? A great schedule? Coaching? College coaches visiting? Milton’s 7th and 9th players both received full basketball scholarships this year. And communities do change for the better I may add.

mike you obviously don’t fully understand basketball or you would understand it take a good program to fully develop a team of individual players. Norcross normally does not have the best players on the court but they have won 89% of their games over the last 10 yrs.
Jeremy Lamb came off the bent in his junior year at Norcross. JL has developed playing on two very good programs.

Yes even the girls program. Thats how coaches are getting the edge. year long practice and recruiting. Private schools and all classifications recruit. So I am thru with the subject because GHSA will never have the balls to do anything!!! Real coaches will coach their players at the school. If these schools and basketball program are so great, i.e Milton, Norcross, Wheeler, are so greater, then why don’t develop their on players from their feeder schools and not go after good players from other schools! Tony Parker wasn’t a transfer, he entered m.g. In the 9th grade. Jordan Price home school is SWD, he attended the feeder school! At least in Columbia, M.G, SWD, case all their players played bball in one of the middle schools in Dekalb!

For those of you who don’t know…. Union Grove does not have a basketball program nor are they committed to developing a program. Looking at their team for next year they have 3 bench players returning that probably could not start for the worst team in the state. There was some young talent that could have been developed but they are not interested in winning. Therefore, why should a kid have to commit his talents to a program that’s not interested in making him better? He’s THE TOP POINT GUARD in the state. If he had of stayed at Union Grove they would have had him playing center. Whatever the circumstances regarding his decision he definitely made the right one.
Don’t hate on schools with good programs and competent coaches. They don’t have to recruit, kids will come to them….!

@Columbia…. No he did the right thing by transferring out of the Henry County School System. Union Grove is like the whinny privileged kid of all the schools. They would have complained to the Board of Education accusing the other schools of recruiting their player, instead of looking within their system and correcting the problems in their athletic department. As a freshman the kid was probably the best basketball player in the school and…. GUESS WHAT? They had him playing on the freshman basketball team the entire season. Don’t judge the kid by the decision he made, give him credit for staying in that program for three years. There’s always more to the story!

Seven D1 players last year and he can’t win a state championship. Maybe Big David can go out this summer and get eight D1 players and win a title. And if you don’t think this egotistical jerk is not hung up on himself, call Milton High and listen to his voicemail.. all about Big David. Hey Big David, prove you can coach with your own players, not the best talent in the state.

The GHSA is a joke this type of thing is out of control.Buford, flowery Branch, the Metro Atlanta Schools are just AAU teams. What are we teaching the kids. Wake up HS administrators when are you gonna live what you preach! County Schools should sue the GHSA or start there own organization.

First off to UG wolverine that is very hard to believe mann has nothing but respect for ever coach he had and for you to sit there to just assasinate his character tells us a lot about you. Furthermore do any of you know the circumstances of being a wolverine basketball player? No player has been yet to sign to a decent college. The focus at union grove is football and last season mann & few other players carried union grove to first round play offs in school history. Three of the starting 5 were seniors & a sophomore left which mean mann left again to carry the team. The transfer was maybe about the challenge and competition to get him ready for an elite level not for fame he got that at UGHS already. To those who assume that he wanted it just for the ring I would happy to see your face thatvmilton will make it & he made a great decision for his future.

SportsFanand Miltoneagle-what about Isaiah signing with Ole Miss? SEC not big enough for you? Keep making excuses about the coaches that you evidently could not support.

I know how Isaiah got to Ole Miss…. He did not go to Ole Miss out of high school. Union Grove coaching staff had absolutely nothing to do with getting him there. Support them!? Funny….
NY BBALL is still the best

Just so everyone knows… Recruiting players occurs everywhere. Right or wrong any state you go to you will find teams that recruit players all over the place. High School Athletic Associations are becoming more like the NCAA. They dont care that kids transfer illegally as long as they are making some money! The fact is simple certain teams will always be at the top because of the money they offer and the recruiting they do.
