WSB-TV/Channel 2 and PlayON! Sports in cooperation with the Georgia High School Association announce a new night for exclusive high school football “Game of the Week” coverage.
For the first time, high school football games will be televised live on Thursday nights.
The 12-week regular season schedule features cross-town matchups from 11 counties.
Games will air live on Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m. on Channel 2.2, WSB-TV’s second digital channel. Fans can also watch games live on wsbtv.com and watch the rebroadcast Friday nights at 1:06 a.m. on Channel 2.

They could just call it “The North GA TV Network” and be done with it. There is enough bias and favoritism with the “you-know-who newspaper” without this partiality and self-promoting of only Atlanta area high schools. Now with this extra exposure we can surely look for 12 Atlanta teams in the top 10, especially in the top classifications. (I know, I know, it’s hard to put 12 teams in the top 10 but trust me they will find a way, you know, 1A and 1B,2A and 2B, etc.) When it comes to high school football in GA, South GA is nothing more than a step-child!!! That, by the way, for clarification is anything below Macon.

@iTiSi, It is an Atlanta station whose signal doesn’t reach south Ga. I don’t know too many advertisers that want to spend money on commercials that almost no one will watch. If there were a match-up between an Atlanta school and a south Ga school, that would be something else but logistics and travel policies preclude that. Sometimes, things are what they are without any schemes.

If you go to extremes it would be like complaining that a New York station wasn’t showing Atlanta Falcons games. If you want the South Georgia games shown I suggest that you talk to so stations down there.

Fred, and FNLF, don’t give me that crap! An agreement could be easily worked out where some of the S. GA TV stations picked up the games, and if it involved some of the ELITE South GA teams there would be plenty of advertisers. Anybody that doesn’t know what is going on here is blind as a bat !!!! You guys are probably members of the same group who doesn’t think the AJC is a left-leaning media member. Take the blinders off and you might can join the race.

Thursday Night Football on TV
6:00 am May 18, 2011, by AJC Sports
“We made a great start with last year’s Friday night game telecasts,” said Bill Hoffman, vice president and general manager for Channel 2 WSB-TV. “This year, we’re taking this season to the next level by carving out a special night for these match ups.
“The GHSA, schools, and coaches cleared the logistical challenges involved in moving games to Thursday nights. All involved see the value in increased visibility of their sports programs on this new night,” said Hoffman.
“We appreciate their trust and look forward to making high school football on Thursday nights akin to a little thing called Monday Night Football in the NFL,” he added. WSB-TV 2.2 can be found on the following cable systems:
TV coverage includes Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein, with the play-by-play and Atlanta Journal-Constitution sports reporter Michael Carvell, providing analysis of each game.
Coverage will also include a special halftime show featuring each school’s marching band and interviews with school principals on other areas of excellence.
The partnership between WSB-TV and PlayON! Sports, now in its second year, is part of the GHSA Network, which provides multi-platform distribution of Georgia high school sports content.

That, by the way, for clarification is anything below Macon.

iTiSi I agree with you. This is being shown on WSB-TV which every cable network in the state carries. It could easily include South Ga teams if AJC, GHSA, and WSB-TV cared a hoot about south Georgia football. Half of the games they are showing aren’t worth a darn.

WSB had to convince both school’s involved in the game to move it up a day. If you know a lot of coaches around the state, this probably wasn’t an easy sell.
