Toddrick Jackson, Tift County High is one of the state’s best 5A players. Everyone knows Nick Marshall from Wilcox in region 2A, but he has a teammate number 32 who is just as good and may prove next year to be even better. Sorry do not know his name, but check Wilcox roster, he is under the radar!!

Warrior: Jarae Savage is a great player. We’re not sure if she was the best in her region, though. That region was loaded. Not saying she was or wasn’t the best, but there are 4-5 girls in that region that we’re pretty close, according to coaches we’ve polled.

@Todd, those are very tough questions!!

I have only really followed 4A and 5A ball this year. There is alot of talent out there! Do you go by the numbers tho??? Some players are on loaded teams so they are obviously not going to have the gaudy numbers. Never the less, I will take a shot at who should be considered for 4A:

Tony Parker, Miller Grove
Marcus Hunt, North Clayton
Bernard Thompson, Rockdale
Kevin Ware, Rockdale
Adam Smith, Fayette Co.
Rasham Saurez, Jonesboro
Jordan Price, Southwest Dekalb
Shaquille Goodson, Southwest Dekalb
Henry Brooks, Miller Grove
Brandon Morris, Miller Grove
The gaurd from Villa Rica High School

There are a few more that I cant quite remember at the moment…But these are a start

Todd
The only time I saw Henry of Newton was when they got waxed by Milton last year. After Scott, I’d say Nolte is Milton’s best player based on the fact that Royal and Parker were wildly inconsistent all year. As for Wheeler, you could make a case for Mitchell or Simmons being their MVP, but I think Mitchell was more crucial to Wheeler’s success. When he was healthy they were able to beat Norcross and have some success in the holiday tourneys. It was unfortunate that Mitchell fought knee and ankle issues at the end of the year as it hampered him in the region and state tourney. That might be a conditioning issue with him as well, although he is in a lot better shape than he was as a freshman and sophomore.

He is good in transition offense and he can defend the bigger guards. He is a finisher around the basket. Adam Smith had an “MVP” season for Fayette County HS and Coach Andre Flynn. He lead FCHS to a 30-3 record and a trip to the AAAA Final Four. He averaged 26.2 ppg (AAAA Leader); after averaging 25.2 ppg as a junior. Scored an amazing 865 points in 2011, while becoming the All-Time Leading Scorer at FCHS. Lead all AAAA players in scoring (26.2), 3-Points shots made, and Free Throw % (86%). He was the leading scorer (23 ppg) and 3-Point Shooter in the 2011 AAAA State Tournament. I think Tony Parker from Miller Grove should strongly be considered for Mr. GA B-Ball…Which other player can say they have won the state championship their freshman, soph & junior year of H.S. Has a chance to win another state championship his senior year. Doesn’t look impressive all the time, but at the end of the game he usually has 20+ points and 15+ rebounds and his team normally wins. Thomas Marshall PG for Miller Grove will probably be overlooked…he is a solid PG

Ive seen John “Chip” Burke play 3 times and each time all ive seen him get outshined by Caleb Hayes of North Atlanta, Mitch Alterman of Riverwood, and Greg Sessions of Grady. Each game, those three players were the best on the court. Period. They were more efficient shooting wise, passed the ball, and didnt argue. Yes he can score in high volumes but so could you if you shot 30 times a game. good player, and deserving of all state, but it also has a lot to do with the “system” NS ran.

Douglass High School: Julian Varner and Sirdarius Henry are one of the best combo guards in the state. They both are 11 graders. They both are high percentage shooters with range. Varner is consider a power guard by many that can play inside out or outside in. Henry is consider an explosive guard and a finisher super quick that teams had to double team him or play a box and one on him. He is the truth. They both are exciting to watch in the toughest region in the state 6AAAA.

I really see now that the GACA All State teams are political. A good example is in Class A girls. You have a player in Keyona Hayes (St. Francis HS) of Region 5 that made all region but not all state? This is the same region as the POY Morgan Batey(Pace Academy) and North GA POY Grace Leah Baughn(weslyan). So she played the same competition as these two girls and averaged 21 pts and 15 rebounds per game! She also had 15 double doubles with a string of 12 in a row! Those numbers I guess are not good enough to be in the same conversation as those two? I am not saying they are not desreving but Keyona deserved to be All State! I guess that is what happens when the region is represented by the region winners coach. The selection needs to be changed!

I saw all the big name teams play at least once this year (Milton, Norcross, South Atlanta, Miller Grove, etc, etc)….in terms of MVP, POY, etc (which does not mean best player), it’s easily Brogdon from GAC. Look at their schedule then look at his numbers – consistent – I’m not saying he’s the best player of all the bunch, but he is the POY among all of them.

If you look at the body of work a player has put in throughout the season as well as their high school career, I would would have to say CHAKECIA MILLER from Campbell high School deserve to be on the All-State list. She is a 4year starter and has averaged 15pts 4asst 5steals in her career while maintaining a 4.2 gpa on the States #2 team. Hey Todd. I am a little fused about yo 5-AAAAA all state player picks. I agree that Jesse McMillan should be the coach of the year but fine it hard to believe that you can do the following without any 1st team all state palyers.

* Won the last 17 games in a row beating 7 top ten teams down the stretch including no.1 thru no 3.
* Beat the no. 3 team in the nation when nobody believed it was even possible
* Won the state championship after losing 7 of their first 9 games
* Upset the no. 3 team in the country which many said was the biggest upset in GA sports history

Yet Norcross did all of this without not even one 1st team all state player? I fine that hard to believe

Three Straight Plus One – I’m sorry you missed the memo, Todd and Mike C. are just alike. They like most of Atlanta bought into the Milton / Boyd hype and went on record very early on who their favorites were. They never believed Norcross could beat the mighty Milton because they hadn’t propped Norcross or their players upon the AJC pedestal. They could never admit that they were wrong and that the Norcross players may not be as hyped as the Milton players but are just as good if not better. In the end, their opinions and ratings really aren’t important and are not a predictor of future success. I’m certain their will be a couple of suprise players at the college level that never made any AJC list.

Jay Rome was the best player I saw all season. That kid is a BEAST! If he were 6′10″ he would be one of the top NBA picks out of high school. We could not stop him. He put 33 points on us in only three quarters as he did not even score the first quarter. He is a physical speciman who can play inside and outside. Best I saw this year.

julian Varner and Sir darious Henry of Douglass high should both be in the conversation.julian is a smooth 6′1 combo guard with a sweet jump shot and range.he also rebounds well and is very unselfish. He plays good D.Julian is fundamentally SOUND,what colleges look for .he also handles the ball VERY well underpressuresomething else college coaches look for.Sir D henry is a explsive, quick scorer with quick hands and very athletic. He has UNlimited range and scores with the best of em.(27.7ppg)they are BOTH juniors and with a solid summer by both,Douglass should have one of the best backcourts in the state, nation!

Courtney Williams from Region 2A (Charlton County girls) may be the best ATH/Basketbal in single A. She has committed to USF and has a ton of other D-1 offers. She’s at a small school so you know how that goes…Believe me TODD I would pick her one on one over any girl.
