The AJC will be selecting its all-state boys and girls basketball teams this week for publication on Sunday.
We’ll pick a first and second team of five players each, plus 10 honorable mentions, for a total of 20 players per classification. We’ll also pick all-classification boys and girls players of the year?
Pick any class and tell us your all-state team.
Who are the no-brainers? Who are the ones that might get overlooked?

I agree Kristina Wells is a very exciting player to watch she is able to create her own shot and gives her all on the court. She is very very underated player who should be going much bigger then Kennesaw!! I hope they know that they got a steal of a lifetime….

Toddrick Jackson, Tift County High is one of the state’s best 5A players. Everyone knows Nick Marshall from Wilcox in region 2A, but he has a teammate number 32 who is just as good and may prove next year to be even better. Sorry do not know his name, but check Wilcox roster, he is under the radar!!

Warrior: Jarae Savage is a great player. We’re not sure if she was the best in her region, though. That region was loaded. Not saying she was or wasn’t the best, but there are 4-5 girls in that region that we’re pretty close, according to coaches we’ve polled.

As if the multiple state championships weren’t enough, the players of the year in both girls and boys should come from Gwinnett…..Girls: Diamond Deshields, Lexie Brown, and Andraya Carter are the 3 best players in the state….Boys: Malcolm Brogdon and Chris Bolden, along with any of the Milton kids, are the best male players in the state.

W/E … Good start, for sure. Just fyi, Corey Heyward was Region 7-AAAAA’s player of the year over the Norcross guys. Who was Wheeler’s MVP, Mitchell or KK Simmons? How does Derrick Henry of Newton stack up among guards? Who was Milton’s MVP after Shannon Scott, who is the Gatorade Player of the year? Those are some of the tough questions in AAAAA.

@Todd, those are very tough questions!!
I have only really followed 4A and 5A ball this year. There is alot of talent out there! Do you go by the numbers tho??? Some players are on loaded teams so they are obviously not going to have the gaudy numbers. Never the less, I will take a shot at who should be considered for 4A:
Tony Parker, Miller Grove
Marcus Hunt, North Clayton
Bernard Thompson, Rockdale
Kevin Ware, Rockdale
Adam Smith, Fayette Co.
Rasham Saurez, Jonesboro
Jordan Price, Southwest Dekalb
Shaquille Goodson, Southwest Dekalb
Henry Brooks, Miller Grove
Brandon Morris, Miller Grove
The gaurd from Villa Rica High School
There are a few more that I cant quite remember at the moment…But these are a start

The only time I saw Henry of Newton was when they got waxed by Milton last year. After Scott, I’d say Nolte is Milton’s best player based on the fact that Royal and Parker were wildly inconsistent all year. As for Wheeler, you could make a case for Mitchell or Simmons being their MVP, but I think Mitchell was more crucial to Wheeler’s success. When he was healthy they were able to beat Norcross and have some success in the holiday tourneys. It was unfortunate that Mitchell fought knee and ankle issues at the end of the year as it hampered him in the region and state tourney. That might be a conditioning issue with him as well, although he is in a lot better shape than he was as a freshman and sophomore.

And I formed that team based solely on the games i was able to watch this year, I only saw PR play once and that was in a loss to Norcross

Shannon Scott was the most complete player in the state this year. He ran the point for one of the best teams to come through Georgia in decades and wasn’t selfish about his points. He is going to Ohio State for a reason. He is a top 10 PG in the nation…

I think Tony Parker from Miller Grove should strongly be considered for Mr. GA B-Ball…Which other player can say they have won the state championship their freshman, soph & junior year of H.S. Has a chance to win another state championship his senior year. Doesn’t look impressive all the time, but at the end of the game he usually has 20+ points and 15+ rebounds and his team normally wins. Thomas Marshall PG for Miller Grove will probably be overlooked…he is a solid PG

Those awards cover the Southeast Georgia area(Statesboro, Swainsboro, Metter, Claxton, Vidalia, Hinesville, Brunswick, and Savannah). Give the kid some recognition. He will also return next year!!!!
