Most intriguing quarterfinal? Start with Wheeler vs. Norcross

Let’s update this blog for the quarterfinals. Miller Grove beat Sequoyah fairly easily Tuesday in our ”most intriguing” second-round game.

I’m sitting in Fort Valley waiting for Fayette County to tip it off against Lovejoy in one of the top QF games of the weekend. Eager to watch Adam Smith, one of the state’s premier scorers. This should be a good one.

On Saturday, the top game is Norcross vs. Wheeler at West Georgia. These are the only teams in AAAAA that can challenge Milton. There, I said it. Not sure I’m going out on a limb with that.

Speaking of good QF’s, I see that Kentavious Caldwell scored 40 in Greenville’s 2-point win over Wilcox County, the team I picked to win Class A. Nick Marshall had 16.

As far as girls go, I don’t think there’s a better team in Georgia than Fayette County. Just saw them hammer Warner Robins. hard to defend a 6-4 post w/ skill, plus a UConn signee. The sophomore PG is smooth. We need an all-clas tournament.

OK, got to go. Smith just hit a 3 at the first-quarter buzzer. Fayette leads 17-14.

The AAAA State Championship game was played last night at Sequoyah High School. Congratulations to Miller Grove on their Three-peat! Seriously, it is a shame that the playoffs are set up the way they are. If Miller Grove had won their region, then we could have seen the top two teams in the State play each other in the championship game. As it is, we had to settle for a second round match-up. Miller Grove will not see another defense the rest of the way to compare to Sequoyah, and they should have no trouble breezing to another title! The real test was last night and they managed to survive!

Mudcat you are foolish if you believe that the otrher teams still playing dont have just as good if not better defense than Sequoyah. I am glad you guys made and played as hard as you did hopefully they can build on a great season.

The MG & Sequoyah was no act of survival and clearly it was not a test you could not have been at this game mudcat ……

There are four teams I have seen play this year that are still in the competition that have a better defense that Sequoyah and could get MG’s big 3 in serious foul trouble.

I don’t know what makes you think Rockdale will smash SWD….they have no one that can stop William Goodwin, Jordan Price or Kadarius Turner.

Mudcat….you must no leave your area if you think Sequoyah can beat SWD or Rockdale, last nights game may have been your Championship game. SWD can beat any team in the state when they come to play, and I do mean any team.

Mr. Coach, u are outta yo mind if you think SWD is going to defeat us(Rockdale). Tomorrow SWD can hang those hoop shoes up because they will be sitting in the stands on the 9th.

They beat MG and you think they are unstoppable. Get out of here!!!

Rockdale beat Heritage by a large margin both times and SWD barely beat them so that LUCK is about to run out!!! The only reason luck lasted this long is because they were home now that they are on a neutral court IT’s OVER!!!

LOL. but really all jokes aside.

I got this one AAAA-Fan,
Box William out the prevent him from guarding the basket and getting so many put back rebounds and make price come inside that 3-pt line and since there was no mention of Turner in your second comment you must know he’s not a threat!!!

Problem solved on to the next one!! Your are probably thinking easier said than done but RC can do it watchout FC we are on our way !!

Mr.Coach

I just tried to make it simple for you by leaving Turner out the second time he will get to the basket at will.. Price will be able to do whatever he wants to do….and Goodwin is one of their leading 3 point shooters. Rockdale better come to play thats for sure. Its going to be a good game, will you be there Bulldog?

Really

no comments on MG, i think Rockdale and SWD will be a real good game. The key match up may be CJ vs. Turner, the PG’s. I take CJ in this one. Also not sure either team has been in big games before, but each ROckdale. K ware may have a big game, I see Mr. Price getting furstrated. Who ever wins may have there hands full with a well rested MG team in the finals. SWD might have done MG a favor by loosing…looks like Cedar SHoals, Sequoyah, Villa Rica, and ? on the way to the championship. They may only get tested once. Does anyone know how many teams in GA boys history that have 3peated as state champs/Hell i know its early but can MGHS 4peat? They seam to be the only other team in 4AAAA bringing back as much talent.

Just a question

March 3rd, 2011
8:22 pm

LOL J. Price will be on lock he is a good big gaurd but he faces 2 gaurds faster and just as tall. he will not be able to get the ball down to Shaq. Mr. Coach how do you only consider one side of the ball who will stop Ware, Thompson,Wilson or Clark. they will impose there will on SWD, they will shoot them out of a zone and run them out of man-man. no more options. Only the Refs can save them

Just a question

I was at the Sequoyah vs. Miller Grove game and I stand by my statement. That was for the championship. The winner will go on to the AAAA State Title. No defense in AAAA is quicker and more aggressive than Sequoyah. Miller Grove will have no trouble the rest of the way! Mr. Coach, I have seen S.W. Dekalb play and they would have no shot against Sequoyah. Rockdale either. We used to pound Rockdale when I was at Newton County!

just a question

Use to past tense the best matchup for MG is the Rock no other team has the quickness length or depth to compete. MG did not get beat by SWD they lost knowing DC,SWD,FC would beat each other up. Smart move Mudcat please be quiet no more silly chatter from u ok . Time to go to sleep rocka-by

SWD Panther Paw, Metro ATL, and Rudbuck,

I have’nt disappeared a all. I was out of town on business and was unable to respond to you all comments. However; I will address them all now. But first let me first congratulate McEachern on their victory over Number 1 Region 3-AAAAA Bradwell Institute Lady Tigers. Clearly they were the better team that night.

SWD Panther Paw, and Metro ATL maybe you are right. maybe the schedule need to be strengthen to play stronger opponents. But I take absolutely nothing away from Bradwell Institute. They had a great season, and they played their hearts out. I belived that this years Lady Tigers would go all they way. They were not ranked No. 1 in the State Class AAAAA Polls for nothing. But you know, I was not the only one who thought that they would have went further in the Tournament. As I can rember, Rud Buck, you predicted them to make it to the Final Four. You even stated that they would get passed McEachern. You forgot to mention that in your comments.

I make no excuses for Bradwell Institute loss, and I can take the loss in stride just as well as I can take the numerous wins that they have achieved too. 80 wins and 8 losses over three years is very impressive in any Class. So I will tell you this: No one on this Blog can shut me up nor silence me. I will speak up, and for my Bradwell Institute Lady Tigers as long as Bradwell Institute still exist. I find it funny that you three, and myself were the “ONLY” one taking in stide the spirit of competitiveness for our favorite teams here in the blogs, Now all of a sudden the quiet ones whom I call the silent minority now begin to speak out and jump on the bad wagon to send wise cracks. It only shows the cowardbess in them. Had Bradwell Institute won, their mouths would have still been shut.

But again, I send out a Kudos to MCEachern on their victory over Bradwell Institute.

SportsFan31313 – It’s all good…..the only comment I have is that the polls should always be taken with a grain of salt. The polls don’t indicate anything other than someone’s opinion that may or may not have seen the teams they decide to place in the poll’s play. It’s all just based on a teams record and that point is proven during the play-off’s………..

RUDBUCK

Yes i did sporstfan31313, but I must tell you to refer back to the statement, I mentioned that Bradwell Institute should be a final 4 team. I also went on to say, their toughest opponent was McEachern, and if they get pass them, it would be no problem to the final 4 as I believe they could beat any of the 2 other teams in the lower part of thei bracket.

I agree with the poll statement. Most of these in-state polls are based on what the record is. It seems like it doesn’t take strength of schedule into consideration. The proven teams go and play the good teams of other regions via tournaments and rivalry matchups. Others also go on to national tournaments and play top competition. But that percentage is small, but yet some of the schools that beat up on other local schools get the chance to be ranked, which of course get weeded out during the state tournament, and some of these ranked teams have been blowned out. So the polls aren’t truly representing.

MUDCAT —- what have you been drinking?????? Sequoyah would have a hard time beating Columbia and South Atlanta….they don’t play anyway near the tough competion as some of the top teams in 4-A. You guy’s got beat by 19 points at home!!!!!!!!!! they were a paper tiger…….and spare me the ‘we used too’ stuff. This is 2011….when has Newton County been a power in anything???????

Okay, is Sequoyah at least a Top 10 team in the eyes of people on here? I believe so. Remember folks, MG killed Rockdale even worse, beat Milton by 10. Although, I understand that doesn’t mean anything. I think Sequoyah should end up ranked 5-7 at the end. They’re obviously better that Cass and Hooch because they’re 4-0 against them. I think they are probably better than Villa Rica from what I hear from the Creekview Bunch. Say what you will 29-1 is an accomplishment. All you hatorade drinkers never stepped foot in a gym and saw that team play this year, because if you did you wouldn’t be hatin’.

SWD Panther Paw

ChiefSupporter – the difference with the Sequoyah game is that it meant more than a regular season game. ‘It was the play-off’s!!!!!!!! and you guy’s were at home. No one is interested in a 29-1 team that when faced with the only true test on their schedule they failed miserably……. but in spite of that you want us to believe that somehow they are still the cream of the crop. So what are you basing your assumption on that you’re better than the 8 teams that are still in the 4-A play-off’s……….having not seen most of them play yourself???????? You Sequoyah people need to let it go ready.

For those of you who really don’t believe white folks can play hoops, check out Duke – year after year. Check out the Boston Celtics teams of the 1980s. For those of you who think Sequoyah is not as good as SW DeKalb and other teams in Atlanta, that may be true. Nevertheless, Sequoyah was good. They won 12 games by 5 points or less, a big-time overachieving, high-spirited group that was finally brought down by a basketball-player mill. They knew how to finish a close game. Final record: 29-1. Not too shabby.

WE are on to the next 1 no time to discuss could’ve, would’ve,should’ve and maybe next year it’s over good run for your guys but move on and don’t take away from the Elite Eight.

Too bad for Sequoyah, MG lost to SWD in the Regional Tournament otherwise they would have been playing SWD in the 2nd rund and all these disputes could be put to rest. Futhermore no need to fret Sequoyah if SWD pulls off anymore wins through the finals we will be waiting for them at the finish line getting fitted for another ring.

Not saying that it is impossile to beat MG but we have been here too many times within the last few years and we know what it take to WIN and by no means would SWD come out with another victory!!!
