Most intriguing quarterfinal? Start with Wheeler vs. Norcross

Let’s update this blog for the quarterfinals. Miller Grove beat Sequoyah fairly easily Tuesday in our ”most intriguing” second-round game.

I’m sitting in Fort Valley waiting for Fayette County to tip it off against Lovejoy in one of the top QF games of the weekend. Eager to watch Adam Smith, one of the state’s premier scorers. This should be a good one.

On Saturday, the top game is Norcross vs. Wheeler at West Georgia. These are the only teams in AAAAA that can challenge Milton. There, I said it. Not sure I’m going out on a limb with that.

Speaking of good QF’s, I see that Kentavious Caldwell scored 40 in Greenville’s 2-point win over Wilcox County, the team I picked to win Class A. Nick Marshall had 16.

As far as girls go, I don’t think there’s a better team in Georgia than Fayette County. Just saw them hammer Warner Robins. hard to defend a 6-4 post w/ skill, plus a UConn signee. The sophomore PG is smooth. We need an all-clas tournament.

OK, got to go. Smith just hit a 3 at the first-quarter buzzer. Fayette leads 17-14.

Rudbuck- Travel will always be an issue for Region 3AAAAA schools do to economics. Most schools want to play better competition in and out of state but just cant afford to. Take Bradwell for example. They are in very small Liberty County wich has two more highschools, Liberty High and GISA back to back to back class A boys champions First Presbyterian Christian Academy. Now you have this small area splitting the money and talent pool three ways. Camden County is a one highschool county who’s football program generates more revenue then each of these schools combined sports programs.

The Regions Savannah schools are even worse. The are AA and AAA schools posing as AAAAA schools cause its cheaper to travel cross town or 45min away to play. Those trips to Camden they have to make every year really hurt especially if its not on a friday. The students get hurt by having to miss class. Thats a long ride on a bus.

31313 did make a bold prediction, I even thought Bradwell would make it to the Final Four and then run out of gas but the tank emptied early. I can see where he thought they were do though. These girls are 80-8 over the past three years. 43-1 in their region over the same time period. They made the elite eight the last 2 years and the Final Four in 2004. Back in 1993 they went unbeaten until the final and Beach won it all in 2004. So it can get done out of Region 3, its just a little tougher to get there, especially come playoff time.

look what yall are arguin about is stupid, people have there opinions so theres no need for other people to fight over there belief. MG may have big players but we have average size players, and we have Tate where he can get between those small spaces and shoot a lay up. I will be at the game tonight! and i will be back on here thurs just to say CHIEFS TOOK VICTORY! bc i believe we can bet them, and MG is pathetic, there the most rude kinda people out there that nobody likes.
Welp, GO CHIEFS <3 we love you boys and are proud!

To all who dislike the accusations being made get over it until it stops it will always be a sour subject. Most of us know its not all schools but that are doing make it bad for all Metro Atlanta schools. The guilty by association theory I guess BB-Fan no reason to defend your school if there is no wrong. Coach 1 you seem to be so sure of recruiting scandal why post it on AJC so strongly so often? I made my comment about on another blog GHSA wont fix it because of the money thats brought in with turning their heads I know of 3 schools that are legit RCHS,MG, and SWD others may have kids from out of area but whos choice was it? did the parents want the change or where they recruited if there is no paper trail or video it never happened. So lets get back to talking HS Basketball and get away from the less known scandals. my final 4 will be Jonesboro vs MG and Fayette vc RCHS but anything can happen between tonight and Friday

Hey Mr. DO IT RIGHT, didn’t Dominique McCoy come from Norcross and now at South Atlanta. Doesn’t that qualify as the same thing everyone else is doing, or is that just coincidental, how convinient.

JJ lived in East Lake apartments with his grandmother (his legal guardian as his mom died in middle school) for his two years at Wheeler. Ari and Rich lived in East Lake as well. Phil grew up in wheeler feeder programs, moved with his mom to nyc in 7th grade, then came back the year after and lived with his dad. Joey and Chuck are both from NYC originally. I know Joey lived in a neighborhood off Robinson road for the two years he went to Wheeler. Chuck has been in district his whole time at Wheeler. Jelan lived out of district, don’t know how he ended up at Wheeler but really couldn’t care as I (and many other Wheeler fans) wish he would have never come to Wheeler as he destroyed the team’s chemistry.

Don’t speak on what you don’t actually know Zone3scan.

I hear you “truth”. Good to know somebody has the facts. And as for Jelan, he was a work in progress, and you could tell, 3 schools in 3 years and I guess he tried to change the chemistry at Memphis, cause he left there too.

Valdosta 60- Langston Hughes 32, I’m just saying, I think thats a 28 point loss, I’m just saying. I actually did fall asleep, I’m just saying. Hughes was suppose to make noise in the region and change things and lost 2 times and came out #4 in the region, I’m just saying. They were suppose to make all this noise in the tournament and lose in the 2nd round to Valdosta, who were suppose to be weaker, I’m just saying. So the bottom line they finish the post season 1-3, I’m just saying. On top of that the sister school, who was suppose to go down and sweep region 1 lost too. Oh and by the way lets make it a clean sweep, the whole region lost tonight. That’s right region 2 lost all 4 5-A games tonight, I’m just saying. So some one was correct in saying there is not much difference between the #1 and #4 team in the region, I’m just saying.

Miller Grove took care of business and smacked the Chiefs. 29-1 was a great year for them. The sad part is they really did not play any real competition until now. The facts speak for themselves. Seqouyah has no bench. Their coach always played 7 or 8 players. If you live by that coaching style you will die by that style. Great Job Miller Grove!!!

@AAAA-fan, If you even had an inkling of what’s going on in these blogs, you would no there was a blogger who’s name was “just saying” who kept insisting Hughes would make noise, and always quoted I’m just saying, which I do agree is annoying. So his team that he blooged so much and took all this space on here lost, and I’m just giving back a little bit, and glad I don’t have to endure his I’m just saying tactics. So read these blogs past and present, before an un-inform fool (you) speaks with no knowledge of what’s going on.

Kudos to a great Miller Grove team. I think we (Chiefs) lost to the eventual state champs (and not because they beat us). Giving up 4-6inches in the 3 big spots and at least that at the guard spot can only last so long. We proved we could stay with them with our first five, but MG has so much depth. Played with so much heart but also di MG. Hats off to them and impressed with their game!
Again, congrats to the Miller Grove crowd and good luck going forward!

FYI- Billy Donovan, Ohio State, and a slew of smaller colleges were in the house.

WOW AAAA-fan………My apologies, I hope you accept. It’s just that there are so many here that need a reality check, that you just get tired and think why they even blog. The blogs should be to talk about the kids playing the game and how the tournament is going. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re a fan, you have to root for your team, but lets be realistic sometimes too. Again sorry for the little blowup there, I guess I did take it the wrong way.

Ok, everyone is entitled, but keep in mind I am sure that you have seen Milton play more than once the reason that you would still take them over MG, so watching one game will not give you the view of the full packge but like I stated everyone is entitled.

Also take note that the talent in 4A have been playing together for years and in MG case for the last 2 Championships anyway.

Toooooo bad 4a and 5a won’t meet again this season.

Good luck to Wheeler.

Very impressed with the Miller Grove team. Sequoyah had it cut to 7 late in the 3rd but depth and height caught up with the Chiefs. I must admit I spoke too soon on Coach White. His team played hard and with poise. Congrats to both teams, and good luck to Miller Grove on the 3peat.

the best talent in the state is in 4AAAA.. if you take the final Fayette, rockdale, SWD, Miller grove, lovejoy, jonesboro and put them up against the top 5A teams 4A would have a better record.

We had a great season, regardless of last night. I wasn’t at the game, unfortunately, but it seems to have been a mismatch. MG beat us by 19 in our own house in front of a raucous crowd. I can’t help but think it would have been much worse in their house. We’re going to need taller players if we’re ever going to compete on that level. Still, I’m very proud of our guys for their fantastic 29-1 season, doing everything they possibly could with what they had. Congratulations to Miller Grove. I’m sure they are looking forward to a rematch with SW DeKalb.

I went to the MG/Sequoyah game last night. Sequoyah gym was crazy something you see in movies I have been to many games all over the state and I have never seen the backing that I saw from Sequoyah fans. It looked like a Duke game at Cameron indoor stadium. The Chief’s student body was something epic.
@ Bleed Red the young men from MG have played with each other for three years and they are best friends and a close nit group of young men. Understand what you saw last night is one of the best teams in the state. Norcross, Milton, Wheeler, SWD, MG, Columbia, FC, South Atlanta have proving to be the cream of the crop in Basketball elite. Not to take away from any of these teams but how many have crossed played and how many have been invited to tournaments with the best in the nation. Because these teams are in different classifications you can never really say who is the best in the state but when you do met head to head for the day you can say you’re the best. MG played South Atlanta, Columbia, SWD, and Milton and their record is 6-1 who else can say that.
To all the young men left in the tournaments good look to them all. And to my DeKalb County School that have boys and girls still in the dance good luck.

Sequoyah will now go back to their below average seasons next year and win about 8 games. They only played like 6 players throughout the game. No depth and only one player coming back who saw significant time. Mark it down, Sequoyah becomes irrelevant again next season.

Just a question

@Watching I see you have FC on the list but not Rockdale do you believe they that FC is better than RC even after winning by 2 without one of their best players?
