Most intriguing quarterfinal? Start with Wheeler vs. Norcross

Let’s update this blog for the quarterfinals. Miller Grove beat Sequoyah fairly easily Tuesday in our ”most intriguing” second-round game.

I’m sitting in Fort Valley waiting for Fayette County to tip it off against Lovejoy in one of the top QF games of the weekend. Eager to watch Adam Smith, one of the state’s premier scorers. This should be a good one.

On Saturday, the top game is Norcross vs. Wheeler at West Georgia. These are the only teams in AAAAA that can challenge Milton. There, I said it. Not sure I’m going out on a limb with that.

Speaking of good QF’s, I see that Kentavious Caldwell scored 40 in Greenville’s 2-point win over Wilcox County, the team I picked to win Class A. Nick Marshall had 16.

As far as girls go, I don’t think there’s a better team in Georgia than Fayette County. Just saw them hammer Warner Robins. hard to defend a 6-4 post w/ skill, plus a UConn signee. The sophomore PG is smooth. We need an all-clas tournament.

OK, got to go. Smith just hit a 3 at the first-quarter buzzer. Fayette leads 17-14.

How about 2 #1 seeds playing against each other in the second round of the Class ‘A’ tournament. Athens Christian VS Whitefiled Academy. What a brilliant job the GHSA did in setting this tournament up when you have 2 number ones playing in round 2

I agree totally with Bball72……..we’ve seen this plenty of times before from teams where a team happens to be far and away the best team in their region but haven’t played anybody worth anything during the season……then come into the play-off’s with a deceiving record and high ranking……just look at the competition Sequoyah has played!!!!!!!!!!! they have not seen anything like what they’ll see Wednesday

Even your article give SHS no respect. You begin by saying that Cherokee will play Wednesday night. SEQUOYAH will be playing Miller Grove not Cherokee.

Is Sequoyah more talented than Miller Grove? No, but they will be better coached I’ll guarantee you that. Sequoyah plays their guts out all game, and that’s all you can ask. Just make sure Bishop Eddie Long doesn’t show up to hit on our young people in Cherokee County. He is after all the Miller Grove Sugar Daddy.

Where did Sequoyah say they played harder teams?? Our region was definately better than Region 5 because our region won 3 of the four on Saturday. Region 7 is not as weak as everyone thinks it is. I’ve never seen or heard anyone say Sequoyah played harder teams than Miller Grove. Miller Grove SHOULD win, but America SHOULD not be in debt either. The most talented team doesn’t always win.

Miller Grove will win by at least 20 points. Sequoyah has not seen a team that even remotely resembles Miller Grove. Miller Grove has played a much tougher schedule. Region 6AAAA alone has more tough teams than Sequoyah has played against on their whole schedule. Good luck Sequoyah. You’ll need it.

coming from BUD? Wow, you’ve picked a team with 6′7, 6′8, 6′9 to beat little ole Sequoyah. Thanks nostradamus. The way I see it Sequoyah has nothing to lose, but if Miller Grove loses what happens? I mean if mighty miller grove loses the sun will cease to rise, there will never be moon glow again at night. All the pressure is on the Grove. Get beat by little ole Sequoyah out there in the cow pasture, and Bishop Long might make you buy your own unis next year, and fund your own trips. It’s funny how everyone thinks they’re giving some insight by saying Sequoyah will lose by 20 plus. That’s what everyone is saying, it’s not like you’ve come up with some breaking news BUD.

Anyone with 6′7, 6′8, and 6′9 that holds the ball a whole quarter when he has more talent. Isn’t much of a coach, not to mention their 1st title he wasn’t the coach because he lost his certification.

Law, small point just like Sequoyah (small team).

Not to take anything from either team SWD and MG first meeting was double digit and because SWD had played the team before they got better and learned how to defeat.

The Chiefs have not played anyone of MG caliber.

In the AAAAA boys southern bracket, it will be interesting to see gets to the Final Four. Of course when they get there Milton is sure to win it all with the recruits. Anyway, of the normal teams who have done it by the book, there are several good matchups coming up. In the coaches poll, 8th ranked Jenkins, at 24-5 is playing at Newton ranked 4th at 25-4. This is a rematch of last year’s first round game at Newton, which Newton won on their way to the Final Four. Jenkins returns most of their team and is better than they were last year. Newton has had another great year, despite returning only 1 returning starter, Derrick Henry, the 2 time Region 2-AAAAA POY, who is slated to start for the south team of the GACA All-Star game on March 26th. Look for Jenkins to be great, as they did last year, and the game to come down to the wire. On the other side, Westlake and Tift Co face off, as Westlake tries to make another run to the Final Four. Upstart Langton Hughes looks for another upset vs. Valdosta, after being state ranked Harrison on the road. Should be a fun night on Wednesday.

ChiefSupporter, you sure know alot about this team, it’s quite scary sound like envy if you know this much about a team and really don’t know NOTHING!!!

Holding the ball a whole quarter is no indication of MG coaching but SWD because they allowed this, and If the refs are involved in Wednesday’s game who is to say the same will not happen? oh I forgot “Sequoyah has a better COACH” LOL

What I said is strictly my opinion. You might think MG has the better coach, and that’s fine. Held the ball a whole quarter which led to a close game, and thus gave SWD the confidence to beat MG in the region tourney. Just my opinion, you don’t have to like it.

Hats off to MG they look a lot like Goliath compaired to Sequoyah…I don’t know who will win, lets leave that to the players and coaches, but I will be there supporting the Sequoyaj Chiefs and watching for David to show up! Let me weigh in on some of this.

Rankings are over rated and based on popularity, NOT PRODUCTION. I see the stats and inquired how the All-Star teams were picked to GACA. #24 SG Larry Thomas and #21 PF Earl Farnum of Langston Hughes both had better stats than several of the current All- Star picks, but they GACA rep couldn’t validate how the kids were picked. All I was told, the coaches decide. On to the next…..It goes the same way with state rankings, the coaches decide. Even when we beat teams twice during the year, those teams were ranked and LHHS was looked over……only because they are not popular in the publics eye OR some guy behind a desk that only looks at ESPNU decides based on someone elses predictions. All-Stars and ranking should be based on the level of production……PERIOD. Again, don’t sleep on LHHS.

To be the best you must play the best…….ask your coach to enter some of the local Christmas tournament’s next season against quality teams in dekalb and gwinnett….that’s how you get better……not piling up wins against inferior competition.

I agree with Panther Paw……, but if you spank teams with GA & Nat’l rankings, where do you go from there? Venue does play a part, because if you are not noticed then they won’t know you. If the record is good, then talent must be SOMEWHERE on the roster. All this hype about Miller Grove, Milton, Norcross is hype that has runover from previous years success. Don’t sleep on a lot of these teams. When the “Powerhouses” lose then you all will be saying…every dog has their day, they had a bad game, they were missing a man in the rotation, shots wouldn’t fall, at least we got our scholarships..what do you have?, we were on the road in hostile territory, I can go on with the excuses. BUT, someone has to win and someone has to lose and there can only be one champion.

Does it really matter what we think/say on here? What we post on here does not equate to the scoreboard… On either side…
Its obvious Miller Grove on paper is far superior to Sequoyah. They have size, we get that. They have played better competition…We get that… We are just saying we think we can hold our own against them.
Who knows what will happen on Wednesday (For a FACT, not an opinion)… No one on earth knows.
If its MG by 20 or 1, or Sequoyah by 20 or 1, nothing said on here will equate to what happens.
I will end this post with this thought…. Go Chiefs!

Would you really approach MG with this article we all read this, watched this and witnessed this but just like Michael Vick this program overcame. We can all see this is from 2008 and in 2008/2009 MGHS won their first State Championship regardless of coach.

@ Just saying. Are you talking about a real game versus MG or summer/fall league. If you are talking about a summer or fall game then you have to be kidding me. There is no way that LHHS can even hold MG’s jock especially in that weak region that you play in. Who is notable in that region besides Westlake (who is down for the first time in a long time)??? MLK, Stephenson, Newton, etc. Please! You guys are doing well for a first year program, but slow your roll.

@ ChiefSupporter. Nice job of trying to make excuses prior to. I think MG or any other team would be satisfied with a 1-point win at this stage of the season. Sequoyah has had a great season and nothing should be taken away from that, but to go to the depths you’re going and for what reason, just shows that you have conceived losing the game already and you are ready to make excuses why MG should win and why Sequoyah should lose. This is a great match-up and should be treated as such. Can’t wait!

As you and i both know there is more to every story, not saying he is not guilty but who would lie to go to school at Carver? I commend Seqouyah on a great season, i don’t understand how everyone on here keeps saying they are David, or the under dog. Hell they are the number 1 team in the State, and MG lost to a team that is not even ranked SWD. Also i think the lil Gaurd from the chiefs is actually pretty dang good. He may be the key to victory. OK, let me be the first to post this, cause i am sure the good folks in chiefs country will be on here ranting about how arrogant Miller Grove is on Thursday, how they don’t line up and come out one at a time when there name is called during starting line ups. I will say this i thought the same thing, then i was told that was something started a few years ago when they had udofia at PG, they did it so not one player is recognized more than the others, a sign of unity and team. But it doesn’t matter the team and coaches will all be thugs on this blog by Thursday morning. I hear one of the kids has some IVY league offers at MG, doesn’t matter he is a thug.

I happened to see Sequoyah the past 2 games and I can tell you they will not back down. They might be 6′4″ but they will not back down. Problem with SHS is no depth, and that will probably cost them against MG. Size of that stature kills eventually. MG 61 SHS 48.
