5 of Georgia’s top college basketball prospects to watch during the state playoffs

The state of Georgia is loaded with talented players and college prospects. Here are five boys from the metro area that could turn the state tournament into their own personal showcase:

Nick Jacobs, South Atlanta: The Alabama-bound Jacobs gets major props from Miller Grove coach Sharman White: “Nick is a true brute in the paint. He’s like a man among boys in the post area.” The 6-foot-8, 260-pound Jacobs averages 23 points and 13 rebounds despite rarely playing much after halftime in recent blowouts. Jacobs had a triple-double against Buford with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.

Marcus Hunt, North Clayton: The 6-5 junior averages 25 points, including a season-high 47 against Jonesboro. Hunt has early offers from Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Auburn, South Carolina, and Nebraska, among others. Said coach Martisse Troup, “The colleges like his overall athletic ability, his basketball IQ and his versatility.” Hunt was the team’s leading scorer last year as an interior player because of team depth with guards. He made the easy transition to the perimeter this season.

Tony Parker, Miller Grove: You know you’re good when North Carolina coach Roy Williams and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski make scouting appearances at your games. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that the 6-8, 270-pounder is only a junior because his game is so advanced. He averages 20 points and 17 points while helping Miller Grove contend for a third Class AAAA championship in a row.

Shannon Scott, Milton: Talent has never been an issue with Scott, the son of former North Carolina and NBA standout Charlie Scott. The 6-1 point guard has vastly improved with his consistency as a senior, turning out an all-star effort nearly every game. He averages 13 points and 7 assists, while managing a team of college prospects. Scott, a McDonald’s All-America selection, signed with Ohio State.

Adam Smith, Fayette County: Smith is the state’s best player that nobody really knows about. He’s a scoring machine — some say the best overall in Georgia since Jodie Meeks at Norcross High in 2006. Smith averages 26.2 points and can score from outside (65 percent on 3-pointers), by penetrating off the dribble, and with each hand. He averaged 32 points over three games while leading Fayette County to a region championship last weekend.

Note: This is not a list of the five best, rather five of the best. There are plenty more. Which other players should be followed? Please post below.

Hey Mike dont hate playa, just because da kid gotz game. In an interview with Danny Bosse while the cops were dragging him out of the gym he said, ” Dez boyz cant stop me, u may of aint heard of me but im da scraight truth. Dem refs hatin on me just cuz i flipped over the scores table and punted the ball in the stands.” Bosse was later released from jail and only charged with one count of assult for punching a ref. The kid is amazing he jumps higher than lebron, is quicker than Ai, and has a shot prettier than ray allens. Give him two more years befores he’s dunking on blake griffin and lebron james in the NBA.

Danny Bosse... Whyd you do it man, why?

I though I could block Danny Bosse’s dunk, but thats before I realized… that I couldn’t… and now I can’t leave my house when its bright out or I’m afraid Danny might dunk on me again. It was the most horrifying event of my life. That kid ruined my entire life in less than a second, and all I can do is cry about it for at least 3 hours a day. I stopped even trying to dunk after that day…
Sincerely,
Tracy McGrady

Milton Dad, Hewitt probably is a better recruiter but Boyd knows how to get the best out of his players. Hoping for a little revenge on you guys this year if possible after what ya’ll did to us in the semis last year. It was ugly from the start.

Tadric Jackson down at Tift co High you should check out. I’m sure you already no about him he’s known as the top player in the state of GA in his class as a freshman. He’s also ranked in the top 30 in the nation as far as his freshman class. The kid can do it all, there’s nothing in the game of basketball that he can’t do by the time he graduates from highschool he will be ranked in the top 5 easy and may be the national player of the year. If you don’t believe me check Tift Co out as they make their state run. TRUST ME!!!!!!!!!!

@ westlakeclassof10

You are obviously misguided. Fulton County school designs are decided by the county, not individuals. One design based on a budget….Dummy. When a new school or university is created, someone has to work there. So our coach didn’t get fired from Westlake….He was “promoted” from Asst. Coach to Head Coach….Dummy. You probably didn’t even play sports, Glee Club member! So with all of your rude remarks, you can run and hide behind your blogs. OK, Langston Hughes lost two of three games in the regional tourney. So what. We spanked westlake and stephenson both….twice during regular season. People only notice the bad that happens, never the positive. We ended up as the 4th seed playing the #1 seed from the season and #1 seed from the regional tournament. It’s post season all records are 0 – 0 at the start, but now we are 1 – 0 knocking off the favorite….Harrison. On to Valdosta where we will make a statement. We’ll talk on Thursday once most of the bloggers will fall off after their teams are no longer playing. Valdosta area is a small community so we will be playing them plus the 6th and 7th man along with the officials. Once we make that statement…….Holla at me! Dummy. Sorry about the name calling, but you deserved it!

@ Coach,

They play Westlake, which have several players that can do it all. You only mentioned one? Tift will need more than that.

I’m a Langston Hughes Dad, so I have no interest in Westlake. Don’t make such an early prediction only to be disappointed later. That must be your kid?

Malcolm Brogdon is the best basketball player in Georgia. I’ve seen all of the mentioned kids play multiple times, and Brogdon is better. He averages more points than Smith, on far fewer shots; Out rebounded the much larger Jacobs head-to-head (who is a beast and doesn’t get the ball enough, but that’s the coach’s fault) in both match ups this season; and as for the strong Milton 5, led by Shannon Scott, they should have beaten GAC this year. They all guarded Brogdon and the other GAC players were not yet up to the task. Brogdon’s career low that night was 12 points. What’s Shannon Scott’s or Dai-Jon’s career low. Whatever it is it is in single-digits. Milton has an experienced team that has played together in high school and AAU ball for many, many years. Those kids have probably played 200+ games (high school & AAU) together over the years. They should be good at this point. Let’s compare first year stats next year this time, and I guarantee Brogdon will have the best year of them all. One more point, if the game had been played last year with Trent Wiedemann (at College of Charleston), Elliot Long (walk-on at UGA), Beaux Hebert & Julian Horton (both playing D-1 college football), GAC would have whipped Milton’s behind, soundly.

I never said he was a one man show but he is one of the top players in the state. To answer your other question yes we do have a team. Last but not least Tift Co 54 Westlake 50 and who made the key play at the end of the game to put us ahead, none other than MR TADRIC JACKSON freshman phoenom c you in FT Valley.
