5 of Georgia’s top college basketball prospects to watch during the state playoffs

The state of Georgia is loaded with talented players and college prospects. Here are five boys from the metro area that could turn the state tournament into their own personal showcase:

Nick Jacobs, South Atlanta: The Alabama-bound Jacobs gets major props from Miller Grove coach Sharman White: “Nick is a true brute in the paint. He’s like a man among boys in the post area.” The 6-foot-8, 260-pound Jacobs averages 23 points and 13 rebounds despite rarely playing much after halftime in recent blowouts. Jacobs had a triple-double against Buford with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.

Marcus Hunt, North Clayton: The 6-5 junior averages 25 points, including a season-high 47 against Jonesboro. Hunt has early offers from Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Auburn, South Carolina, and Nebraska, among others. Said coach Martisse Troup, “The colleges like his overall athletic ability, his basketball IQ and his versatility.” Hunt was the team’s leading scorer last year as an interior player because of team depth with guards. He made the easy transition to the perimeter this season.

Tony Parker, Miller Grove: You know you’re good when North Carolina coach Roy Williams and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski make scouting appearances at your games. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that the 6-8, 270-pounder is only a junior because his game is so advanced. He averages 20 points and 17 points while helping Miller Grove contend for a third Class AAAA championship in a row.

Shannon Scott, Milton: Talent has never been an issue with Scott, the son of former North Carolina and NBA standout Charlie Scott. The 6-1 point guard has vastly improved with his consistency as a senior, turning out an all-star effort nearly every game. He averages 13 points and 7 assists, while managing a team of college prospects. Scott, a McDonald’s All-America selection, signed with Ohio State.

Adam Smith, Fayette County: Smith is the state’s best player that nobody really knows about. He’s a scoring machine — some say the best overall in Georgia since Jodie Meeks at Norcross High in 2006. Smith averages 26.2 points and can score from outside (65 percent on 3-pointers), by penetrating off the dribble, and with each hand. He averaged 32 points over three games while leading Fayette County to a region championship last weekend.

Note: This is not a list of the five best, rather five of the best. There are plenty more. Which other players should be followed? Please post below.

Adam Smith is easily the best scorer in the state. He dropped 50 points against Upson-Lee while shooting 19-25. Upson-Lee only scored 25 points as a team. He makes it look so easy.

Having seen 4 of the 5 mentioned plus Malcolm Brogden from GACS, I have to say that Brogden is the best all round player of them all. He is a great BB player, very good student and a class young man. We at UGA were sick when he chose VA.

dawgdip -you must not have seen Brogden against Milton. He was overwhelmed by the fury and speed of Milton. I think he had a career low. I could see some talent though. I think he was just overwhelmed by the 5 on 1.

Now, here’s my 5 to watch in the state playoffs:
1) Shannon Scott – Milton; 2) Dai Jon Parker – Milton; 3) Evan Nolte – Milton; 4) Julian Royal – Milton; 5) Jordan Lloyd – Milton.
C’mon Norcross and wheeler – get stirred up. Don’t sit back and take that.

Danny Bosse from Woodward Academy is definitely Top 5 if not Top 3 players in the State. For his name to not be on this list is somewhat absurd. Although he will not be playing in the State Tournament with Woodward his Church League Team is on their way to another Championship. Absolute beast of a player. Bosse stated in a recent interview, “I don’t do this interview stuff… but my game basically just revolves around me taking the ball and if the drive and power slamma jamma dunk isn’t there then I back up to about 35 feet and just launch that bad boy… and I don’t miss so you can forget that home boy.”

Texas, my point exactly. Don’t get too excited about brogden. he is a very good player…at the AA level. He struggled against some AAAAA thoroughbreds. No I was not impressed by Milton’s GAC win. Except that GAC was supposed to be “all that”. It was no contest. No Oak Hill and Winter Park. Those were impressive.

Brogden dominated South Atlanta in the two games this season. I wish he would have chosen the dawgs. I spoke to his mother at GACS girls game and she said she wanted him to be a dawg, but he like VA. Oh well.

Strange comment. Playing 1 against 5 is tough. Brogden didn’t stuggle when he was man on man. He struggled when he was man on 3. Like anyone would.

It’s ok. Let Milton Dad have his fun this year. Evan Nolte ain’t taking them anywhere next year. And don’t try and tell me Shaq Johnson is a basketball player- he can only dribble with 1 hand and has the ugliest jump-shot in the metro area (he seriously should consider the granny shot, couldn’t hurt his percentages). Yes he can jump, but with Shannon in Columbus there will be no one to throw him alley-oops. Next year, it’s Wheeler and Norcross back on top, order in AAAAA restored.

Again enjoy this year while it last.

Brogden made all tourney team at Beach Ball and Bass Pro Tourneys. Set 2011 scoring (avg. 28 ppg) and rebding record at Bass Pro TOC, and broke all time rebdound record at Bass Pro Tourney. Had 42 pt game at Marriott invitational. 34 pts, 16 rebds vs. South Atl last week. Tough kid who plays best vs. top competition. Avging 26 ppg, 12 rebds, 3 assts for season.

phew….”thanks got my back”. and as for Shaquille. I think a lot of people will be surprised next year. He can defend almost as well as Dai Jon. He is quick, can rebound. He will be fine. And Nolte will avg 10 assists/15 pts/10 boards/6 steals per game next year with the double-teams. He is a great passer, if you haven’t noticed.Looking forward to it W/E. But, yes. Will miss those seniors next year. And, yes, I will enjoy it this year.

Truth ATL.
All seriousness now, good luck to all in state tournaments. Lots of great ballers in this state. We are lucky. For you’s that haven’t lived in other parts, this is special. I don’t take it for granted. I lived in Norfolk, Va and saw lots of good players (J.R. Reid, Alonzo Mourning, Iverson, Joe Smith, Ronald Curry…) and lived in Charlotte (not bad ballers), but never seen anything like GA ballers. So many and so good. Enjoy it and appreciate it peeps.

You know people, being ranked is just a person’s opinion. We’re not ranked….we’re just a 2nd year school. Ask Miller Grove who Langston Hughes is!!! They found out this summer when we spank dat by 14. Yes, they all were present. We took down Harrison last night #1 in season and #1 in regional tourney. Larry Thomas – 22 pts, 19 rebs, 1 stl last night Earl Farnum 10 pts, 12 reboards. Ask Peachtree Ridge, Ask MLK, ask them all. The only people that never heard of us are the people that have their heads so far up the other player, they can’t see what’s coming for them. Move your heads……we are coming to kick dat!!!
