Fayette County hires Clark Atlanta assistant as new football coach

Fayette County High hired Michael Davis to be the school’s new football coach.

Davis, who was an assistant coach at Clark Atlanta last season, will begin his coaching duties immediately, overseeing Fayette County’s winter workouts and spring practice.

Before the college job, Davis coached at a pair of Florida high schools, including a five-year stint as head coach of Bayside High. Davis also has worked as an assistant coach at Carson-Newman College, where he earlier played on three NAIA national championship football teams.

This is the first time FCHS has made the newspaper and it didnt involve Brandon Boynkin. I hope he does well, but he has his work cut out for him. When is the last time we made the playoffs or won a playoff game. Everybody makes the playoffs now, maybe he can work some magic and make a late season run.

Fayette is a joke. Football is not serious there and until they clean house it will always be that way. They have a soccer guy playing AD and a principal who could careless about football. This guy has no idea what he is getting into

Thank God just for the new blood and new day compared to what we have suffered for the last 9 years. Hopefully this guy will make a difference, it can’t get any worse than the last nine years under Webb. What a JOKE.

I believe this is a new beginning for the Tigers. All you guys have to do is go out there and play with a winning heart. This is a Coach that took a losing program and lead them to the play offs.
If anyone can lead you there, it is definitely Coach Davis, but it is up to the players to want to get there. So lets all start supporting this God Sent Coach and start up lifting these players so we can all rejoice in a winning season.

6′ 3″ 270 lbs Akil Hawkins (#63) is a breast on offensive line; he starred last year at both Guard and Tackle. He will certainly be a 1st team All County Selection as well as All State. He will be the anchor of the offensive line ;and hopefully, he lead the way to successful first year for Coach Davis. Hopefully, UGA will not allow USC (Spurrier) to come into the state and steal another solid and talented offensive lineman.
You have a good one Coach Davis!

It is difficult to give credence to anything written by someone who cannot correctly spell “Sweet Tea” when living in the South! See above. It would be difficult to find a better high school football coach than Coach Webb. It is difficult to win without enough administrative and parental support. More importantly, it is difficult to win with very few talented players which has been the case at FCHS this past decade. Coach Webb coached the Tigers to an 11 and 1 record in 2007 going undefeated in the regular season. That team was talented and worked very hard. He was the same coach in 2008 through 2010, but simply did not have enough talent or support.

Fayette wasn’t losing games because a lack of talent. Ask any other team who’s watched their film, they’re talent loaded. They lost a majority of their games by very slim margins, after which the team gave up and stopped caring. Both those point towards bad coaching and a lack of motivation. Fayette had just as much or maybe even more talent then any of the other schools around this area. Anyone involved in the football program at Fayette knows that all signs point towards Webb as the reason Fayette has been so dismal.

SouthSide Basketball,
With all due respect. it is not my intention to get into a “war of words” with you. You and I would never agree on this subject. It is also not my intention to bash FCHS football because I am a fan of FCHS football. However, I am shocked that someone would write that FCHS is “talent loaded” in football. That is most definitely not the case. FCHS does not have anywhere close to the talent of the other high schools in the county except for McIntosh. The reasons for that are a total mystery to me, but that is just the way it has been. However, just like the other schools in the county cannot match the talent of FCHS in basketball, FCHS does not match the talent of the other county schools in football except for McIntosh. It is that simple.

Incorrect. Fayette does so well at 7 on 7 tournaments where coaching is less important and more emphasis is on the talent of the individual player. Fayette hung with Sandy Creek and only lost 10-0 even though they had a chance to come through and take the win. Poor play calling leads to shutouts. Clearly they weren’t over matched as many of the players that play offense play defense too and playing defense didn’t seem to be a problem as they only gave up 10 points to the AAA state champs. The only reason the players put forth so much effort in that game was because Sandy Creek is considered a rival by the student body, not so much everyone else.
