Who has Georgia’s best high school basketball team at this point in the season?

Who has the best high school basketball team in Georgia?

It might be the Milton High boys, which have recovered from some early season struggles. The defending Class AAAAA state champions defeated Wheeler 77-59 on Saturday in front of a capacity crowd.

Milton is now 19-2 on the year, while Wheeler dropped to 14-5, including back-to-back losses to Georgia teams.

Against Wheeler, Milton point guard Shannon Scott (signed with Ohio State) had 16 points, 9 assists and 5 steals. Milton forward Julian Royal (Georgia Tech) scored 13 despite being in foul trouble.  Shooting guard Dai-Jon Parker (Vanderbilt) finished with 9 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals.

Milton was led by swingman Evan Nolte, who scored a team-high 26 points. Nolte is considered of the nation’s top college basketball prospects for 2012.

Who do you think has the best high school basketball team in Georgia? Milton? Miller Grove? Would Milton — which now appears to be peaking — win in a rematch against Miller Grove? Please post below.

Milton is playing like their pre-season #1 national ranking now. Since losing to MG, they have woken up and are playing with a swarming relentless defense, which feeds their 5-pronged offense. They can score from so many directions in a half-court set or from a hells fury running game. Wish we could have a pay-per-view matchup with MG after the state tournament. Give both teams a week to recover from the emotional drain of the tournament.

MIller Grove is still the best in the state no one in the state has beat them and they have beaten Milton and Columbia (twice). Their only loss is to a national ranked team out of Florida. If Milton wants some more they can come to the Lithonia area after Miller Grove win state again. (three-peat) All the praise that Milton teams gets show up for the big games and show that you are the King and now just follows…

Milton would be Miller Grove 4 out of 5 times the play. Miller Grove game was a fluke, plain and simple! Not for a last second heave by St Patricks, Milton would be #1 in the nation today.

I think if a team plays with some better okay (different) refs other than people that got connection it would be interesting. There would be a team like Eastside or Southwest Dekalb could beat any of those teams. I pick Southwest Dekalb as my dark horse.

Let’s see if I can cover all the basis.

ATL Hoops are you serious 5 times? That was NO fluke they were leading Milton by 20 before Milton’s golden boy(coach) started complaining.

Medley offense wins championships.

coach1 I agree 90% of the refs hate MG i am not sure how they feel about other teams but I know factual they hate purple, black and white!!!

southside23 Columbia is a well coached team, that much I can say.

Milton fan, too little too late they should have been awake long before now and all a rematch would do is expose them even more.

why don’t your so called #1 Milton and Miller Grove ever come to South Ga. and play Bainbridge and Thomasville? We always got to go up there ,where they always at home. Try coming to the Ponderosa in Bearcat country and leave with a W.

coach2: careful what you wish for. Don’t think you really want Milton or MG to come “to south”. You might think you do. Trust me. you don’t.

MGHS 3-peat: I personally agree with ATL Hoops, BUT…your boys beat my boys. end of story. However you split the hairs, I think MG and Milton are in top 3 in country (right now). maybe 1-2.

@coach2: Really…you don’t want Milton or Miller Grove to come south. OK, Thomasville you hang around long enough and you will get your dose of ATLANTA from South Atlanta, and Bainbridge if you keep winning you will get your shot at Miller grove, they will be in Gwinnett for the Championship game.
@ Milton Dad, I agree Milton and Miller Grove are in the top 4 teams in the Nation, St. Patricks did win, so they are definately in the top as well. Although I think that Miller Grove has the better Team overall top to bottom, because of thier bench, but Milton has the best star in Scott, dont get me wrong the team is solid, but Scott is a stud.

Although I am a Girls Basketball coach, I have an un-biased opinion. After watching Milton, Miller Grove, Columbia, & Wheeler, I would have to say the best I’ve seen is …….. Miller Grove. They are well rounded at each position, and have a deeper bench than the other teams. I think they are well-coached, and deeply talented. Miller Grove…. the best team in GA

I think that Miller Gr0ve is the best team in Dekalb County, However do not leave the Tucker Tigers out. As for Columbia, I lost repect for McCrary and the Columbia Eagles. They are sore losers. Grown men should not have temper tantrum on the court.

Well I’m glad Miller Grove played all the number 1 rank team in the state of Ga and wipe them clean. Do not cry spill milk when you play a top team and loose bad. By the way in the 3rd quarter Miller Grove was beating the breaks off Milton by 25 points. If you was at the game Miller Grove took it easy on the hype team and put in their JV players to finished the job. Miller Grove have Junior players who is beating teams not seniors so watch out for next year.

MGHS 3 peat- so you say the refs hate your team. I mean I think some ref have a hidden agenda against teams. I mean no personality. I am hard and focus in a game, but once its over no hard feelings towards the ref. They really take the fun out the game. If you cant the crowd or a coach expressing himself then u need to find another job.

Coach1,I am all for allowing these guys to play real basketbal but when you call fouls on one end and not the other what is that? are the refs just missing it?no i don’t think so!!! I totally agree there is a hidden agenda, but when it becomes too obvious they start the crappy make-up calls which is nothing but minor nit picking. Let the guys play ball.

tucker???? no… miller grove, milton, columbia..rockdale.. these four teams play nothing but national ranked schedules this year.. milton loss to two teams this year but beat the number one team in oak hill. mg beat milton easily, and when u look at rockdale they lost to mg and the other losses they have this yar are against teams ranked within 1-5 in the respective states.

OK Coach T. I am going with your voice of reason. Its MG/Milton 1/2 in state and 2/3 in country. Milton and MG both repeat as state champs.

I haven’t seen Miller Grove play so I can’t comment on who is the better team NOW. However, I will say that Milton is very good and the most unselfish talented team I’ve ever seen at the high school level. Started playing, coaching and watching in 1961.

There is one Website that actually anaylize all these teams and that is ESPN. They have Milton up top. Miller grove could have easilly lost another game, but won on GA buzzer shot. So I should say it goes to the team with more quality wins Milton. Look Miller grove died beat Milton by 10, but killer grove also lost by a lot to Dr.krop so both teams are good,but I say its almost equal

Hate to say it, but head to head matchups are the only way to decide and the winner is miller grove.And “TIGER” you must don’t attend to many tucker games? Your coach is the biggest cry baby i’ve ever seen!I guess those 25 and 30pt losses that yawl took previous years at columbia gym would make your coach have a TANTRUM to. 1.miller grove 2.milton 3.columbia 4.campbell 5.wheeler
