It’s that time again for one our most popular high school sporting events of the year — the celebrated AJC Slam Dunk Contest.
It’s official: Beginning now, we’re looking for a few good men (or women) for the AJC Slam Dunk Contest, ones on Atlanta area high school basketball teams that can dunk with the best of them.
We are taking nominations between now and midnight on Jan. 31.
Do you know a local high school basketball player who is a prolific dunker? Someone who dunks with such a smooth style that it causes fans from BOTH teams to rise to their feet? That’s the player we want. Lots of players can dunk but we’re looking for creativity. Take a peek at this video and then read more below …
We are taking nominations, if you have one. Please list the player’s name, high school, and your best description of this player’s dunking ability below in the comments section. This is very important: Please also post a video link from the player you are nominating (for example, if the video is 6 minutes long, then tell us at what time in the video to be looking for the jam).
Here are the rules: The player must be a Georgia high school student on the roster of a metro basketball team, and nominations must link to video of a dunk by the nominated player. We want to see it with our own eyes. Also, when nominating the player, this may put the player in the running for the AJC Slam Dunk Contest but does not guarantee that they will be a finalist.
What if there’s no video link of your favorite dunk artist? You have until Jan. 31 to figure something out. The video can be from before or after practice, or during a game.
Past participants have included NBA lottery pick Derrick Favors, UGA all-star Travis Leslie and last year’s Mr. Georgia Basketball (Westlake’s Marcus Thornton).
Who will be this year’s winner of the AJC Slam Dunk Contest? Please post below.

How many of these kids are SENIORS? How many want to go stright to the NBA? Why is Nick Marshell not going to the NBA and chosing to play football at UGA? He could get a paycheck next year from the NBA or in Europe.
