Wrestling’s state championships postponed for six weeks due to weather

Wrestling’s Team Duals state championships scheduled for this weekend have been postponed until Feb. 25-26 due to inclement weather and school closings. GHSA officials picked the new date to avoid scheduling conflicts, and it was the first weekend after the high school sport was supposed to finish.

“We were looking at the fact with many schools not in session, we couldn’t really have it this weekend,” said the GHSA’s executive director, Ralph Swearngin. “If we tried to put it another weekend during the regular season, it would fall on top of schedules that teams have already made. So we just decided that we would put it at the end.”

Now it’s YOUR turn. The postponement was a no-brainer but what do you think of the new date? It’s one week after the traditional state championships. Please post your comments below.

Can the wrestlers keep their weight in check that long?? Or will they weigh in next week then wrestle the last weekend of Feb?? Or maybe give them another 3 – 5 lbs buffer…
