Will Coach K invade Georgia to steal Tony Parker? (AP)
You gotta be good — well great — to get Coach K to make a special trip to Atlanta.
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is scheduled to attend Miller Grove’s game at Douglass High at 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to Miller Grove coach Sharman White.
And who is Coach K here to see? None other than Tony Parker, one of the nation’s top juniors with more than 40 scholarship offers.
Parker is a 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward who averages 19.5 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
“Coach K isn’t coming for a casual visit — Duke loves Tony and they want to sign him very badly,” White said. “He’s a 6-9 guy who can make things happen in the paint. They like his ability to score, and they think he’s a great kid — a ‘Duke kind of kid.’”
Parker, who has built a close relationship with Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt, says he has no favorites.
“It’s exciting that Duke will be here,” Parker said. “They obviously have a great program and I’m definitely considering them.”

Who ever thinks Coach K is overrated is an idiot. Winning national championships and ACC championships is not overratted. He has had his program at the top of the college sporting universe for years. But I think that GT will be searching for a new head coach if CPH doesnt step up. He is a great recruiter and a great motivator but he is a below average Xs & os coach. If he leaves UGA will land a large and great class which they will need with all that they are losing. But once again idiots taht are allowed to write on here make these coments nearly unreadable.

I can remember a top recruit from Atlanta area several years ago having his mother moved to Durham and provided a much better job than she had in ATL. Not a peep from NCAA. Corch K is on the “untouchable” list along with Corch C at Kentucky. Corch C gets schools on probation, but he is never touched.

BuckheadBill – I don’t remember a top recruit from Atlanta going to Duke after his mother got a high paying job in Durham.
I do remember Chris Duhon, from Slidell, LA going to Duke after his mother was hired by a company in Durham.

@Really, I don’t think you could find your ass with both hands. Hate Duke, despise their success, but to call him overrated makes you look foolish, or worse, like a selfish, blind idiot.

Coach K over rated? Are you kidding me! He has 4 national championships and like 12 final fours….70 something NCAA tournament wins. He could have quit back in 2001 and been a lock to the college basketball hall of fame.

There is nothing wrong w/a parent, who is minimally employed, following their son to wherever he chooses to play. This is often the case w/a high school coach or teacher, who can often find employment in a similar position near the school the son chooses. Ryan Brenner at UNC is a good. example. His dad found a coaching job in or near Chapel Hill. I’m sure UNC did not arrange the job for him. He was a standout coach in Northern Va. who went to a high school with a losing program.

@Brad..thank you sir for saving me the keystrokes it would take to address those morons. When someone takes a blog that has zilch to do with PRESIDENT Obama and turns it into something else, it is pure, unabashed racism rearing its ugly head where it has no business. Whatever your sorry circumstances are, he is not the blame. Maybe you should look in the mirror in your backwoods cabin. I’m sure you voted for Deal and Purdue..two upstanding citizens who are screwing Georgia without a condom. Boehner vowed to vote against everything President Obama initiated, and you are witnessing and will soon be victimized by his stupidity.
Here’s a good example..imagine a great coach getting hired after inheriting a crappy team and having all of his players do everything to undermine his efforts. Kind of hard to achieve your objective, isn’t it? Now do you get it? Flex your weak blog muscles elsewhere…this story wasn’t even about politics.

This kid needs to go to a college where they are serious about educating him and won’t look at him like a piece of live stock. If I was him, I would sign with Morehouse, Howard, North Carolina A&T, FAMU, Morgan State or Hampton. If he’s that good, the pro scouts will find him. Besides, he will find the best of both worlds (academics & social life) at one of the colleges above.
Don’t fall for the blind promises and hype, young man.

I can’t believe this man’s last (or first?) name is “K.” I was taught in journalism class that you identify someone on first reference and later may refer to that person by a nickname. Out of curiosity, what does the “K” stand for?

Tony Parker may have all the skills to play basketball, but does he have the skills to graduate Duke??
He should go to UGA. They don’t care about the academics!!

Not one of the colleges you mentioned is even on par with DUKE. Howard is good but it is no DUKE. If he wants an education and sports why would you even suggest those colleges?

@FromtheBARstool – I suggested Howard, FAMU, Morehouse and the rest of “those colleges” because they have a proven track record of educating black athletes. Duke & the other white colleges graduation rate for black athletes is steadily declining. Lets stop steering our kids to these athletic plantations where most of them are exploited and get absolutely nothing in return. Would you happen to know what college produces the most black college graduates in America? Hint – It ain’t Duke.

Larry, Walker Texas Ranger, and Yes we can are all fine examples are all fine examplles of unabashed ignorance of the highest order. Larry – forgets that it was OK for an Actor and a Baseball team owner to be elected President. It’s idiots like these that were completely quiet during 8 years of the complete collapse of the Banking Industy, the Housing Industry, the Auto Industry, and Manufacturing. All the while the country was spending hundreds of billions of dollars to destroy Iraq and Afghanistan to turn around and rebuild them. For what? Did you get that? You ignorant puppet headed clones that constantly want to rant about the present administration. You had nothing to say about 8 years of destroying this country while you sat in your stinkin homes with your shot guns, rebel flags, whisky and your smelly dogs while the country was being led to bankruptcy! Shut your freakin yaps…….

@Shirley: Tony Parker sounds like a kid who has all the tools to achieve both athletically and academically at Duke. See here: http://hsgeorgia.scout.com/2/972103.html
The other upside to attending Duke is that you are on national TV two or three times a week. That kind of exposure builds name recognition which tends to improve draft position.

AfghanHound – Who is Ryan Brenner? Are you sure you don’t mean Bryn Renner? He’ll be starting QB for UNC in 2011. Renner’s father was a well respected coach who was hired at E. Chapel Hill High School (starting QB in 2010 was Butch Davis’ son – quelle surprise!)
There is nothing wrong with a parent following their child to the area of a school. Philip Rivers’ father did the same thing when he went to NCSU. What makes the Duhon case unusual is that his mother managed to get a clerical job paying much higher than usual and was hired by a Duke booster

Better to go to a Plantation College with better Professors than a HBC with little devirsity. If you just want to better educate AAs then we should go back to Segreated Schools starting in Pre-K.

The reason the Black athletes don’t always graduate from those Plantation colleges is beacuse they go Pro. Going Pro making a LOT of Money because of the exposure those players will not get at Howard or Morehouse. If they chose to finish college after siging to go pro that is on them. You are asking some very talented athletes to throw away a greater chance at a lot of money to go to Howard or Morehouse.

YES Not many WMDs found in Iraq. What wasn’t used on his countrymen ( Sadam was given plenty of time by the UN delays) were moved to and hidden in Syria. They will emerge again. On another matter, are all these bloggers rooting for Coach K (Weasel Face) living in Georgia? If not then say wahat you want ut if you were born and reside in Goergia and pull against UGA and GT then why not pack tour belongings and move to North Carolina. It is a fine state and Coach K is an oustaanding coach so just go there and don’t come back. My state would feed you to the gators. Let,s eat crayfish and play some foosball. Leave the politics to the dummies in Washington. Have a great day..

Where have you been for the past 25 to 30 years? Coach K overrated? Your an idiot obviously, or just a typical hater that cant stand to see someone actually represent the college game the way it should be and to be a leader. So what if you dont like Duke or Coach K, you have to give the man props, he has achieved more than most coaches will never achieve. I have met the man himself, he is one of the most down to earth gentleman you could ever meet. Think before you add an ignorant comment. I dont like UNC but i dont go hating on Roy Williams because he is at UNC. Ive always thought that Coach K and Roy are two of the best coaches in college backetball.
