Final rankings blog: We agree on No. 1

Metro Atlanta teams won four state titles for the first time since 1970.  As recently as 2005, metro teams didn’t win any.

What does this mean? Probably that metro Atlanta won’t win any in 2015. The South will rise again. But metro Atlanta is only getting bigger.

Also, Camden County, Northside and Charlton County aren’t ranked. The last time that’s happened – with all three unranked in the end – was 1993.

I doubt that means anything either, unless we should do a better job in preseason rankings. All started No. 1.

The final rankings are very difficult to settle on this season, especially in AAAAA and AAAA, when so many top teams got toppled unexpectedly.

Congrats to Brookwood, Chattahoochee, Sandy Creek, Buford and Clinch County.

Usually the team with the fewest mistakes wins. Brookwood made fewer mistakes and scores almost everytime we had the ball. One big mistake we made was letting you score with no time on clock at the half. That penalty killed us. You shouldn’t have gotten that TD. Face it, Brookwood is the better team. We won, you lost. The better team makes fewer mistakes. Brookwood is your State Champions. Get used to it. Congratulations to the Packers for being second best.

@ Camden County Wildcat….Are u sure St. Thomas is coming to Camden next year? I was under the impression that the St. Thomas and Central Miami games were just a 1 year deal.

Bronco Billy your ignorance is really standing out! you have not done enough research to make such statements! I realize you are a Camden hater I hate Brookwood just as bad so that makes that equal. you better be thankful that Brookwood did not have to go to Kingsland because if so things would have been oh so different! You need to learn a little about football before you spout off at the mouth!!!!

Think what you like Bronco Billy! If you read any blogs you would know I don’t mind when our team loses to a better team. That game bugs me because we gave it away!

GoPack, that’s right. You did give it away. Give away fifty two points, that is! Ha. Ha. You couldn’t stop Brookwood and you would have lost even had you not fumbled or been intercepted. Brookwood made numerous mistakes also and still beat you by a wide margin.

“The Facts”, I don’t hate Camden. No way. I am embarrassed because they were beaten by a Florida Team. I don’t care if that team was ranked #1 or #200. When Camden went out of State and played, they represented Georgia. BTW, your statement that things would have been different if Camden had played Brookwood is lame. Camden could have played Brookwood had they beaten Hillgrove. You couldn’t get the job done. Face it. You lost to Hillgrove, an upstart program from Cobb County. You didn’t deserve to play Brookwood. Before you “spout off at the mouth” make sure your football program gets the job done. Camden isn’t even a ranked team anymore, just another coastal georgia cupcake playing in a powder puff region. BROOKWOOD BRONCOS GEORGIA AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONS. READ IT AND WEEP, LOSER.

Bronco Billy – 7 turnovers against Hillgrove Brookwood was lucky to get out of that game with a win! Now enjoy your state championship because next year we want it back!

Bronco Billy

Exactly my point. Brookwood played terribly againt Hillgrove and still won. Who wins with seven turnovers? Only the best teams, that’s for sure. Camden couldn’t beat Hillgrove at home with fewer turnovers and the Packers couldn’t beat Brookwood even though Brookwood made numerous mistakes. Brookwood was just too overpowering and dominant. Camden would have looked silly, pathetic even, playing the mighty Broncos. Don’t even consider playing the State Champion Broncos until you’ve proven yourself against the Hillgroves and other lesser teams.

For GA Travel Whinners

Just curious about other states and how far their teams have to travel to play in their state championship game so I looked at the number one high school football state—–Texas. Below are the miles teams will have to travel to play in their state championship game.

Also they are expecting 60,000+ today for the AAAAA games at Cowboys Stadium. Their AAA game drew over 20,000.

On top of this, Texas plays neutral field throughout their playoffs. The two opposing coaches/administration meet on Sunday following their Friday night’s win and determine where the game will be played. This is done for over 500 playoff games except for the AAAAA, AAAA, AAA finals which are played at Cowboys Stadium and AA, A at one of the Mansfield’s (Dallas area) high school’s field.
Distances from participating high schools to Cowboys Stadium:
5A Division I: Euless Trinity 7; Pearland 275
5A Division II: Denton Guyer 37; Cibolo Steele 262
4A Division I: Denton Ryan 40; Lake Travis 211
4A Division II: Aledo 33; La Marque 295
3A Division II: Carthage 177; Coldspring-Oakhurst 224
Distances from participating high schools to Mansfield’s Vernon Newsom Stadium:
2A Division I: Daingerfield 164; Cameron Yoe 137
2A Division II: Lexington 172; Idalou 302
A Division I: Mart 102; Goldthwaite 148
A Division II: Windthorst 117; Falls City 284

Brookwood Bronco Fact

December 18th, 2010
3:37 pm

When was the last time a state champion had defeated each one of the semi-finalist during the season? 2010 Brookwood Broncos. They beat Grayson in region, beat Collins Hill in regular season and semi-finals and Colquitt County in finals. I think that should answer the question on who is the best AAAAA team in GA.

For PackerAlumni66

December 18th, 2010

600+ yards and only 38 points. Add in Brookwood’s return yardage; punt returns, kick-off returns and interception returns and they would be right at the 600 yard total. Yards and yards dude, no matter how you get them. 58 points….I would say Brookwood was efficient and CC defense was….hummmm….missing?? The officials were trying to keep it close but they can only do so much (i.e.) the phantom pass interference call in the end zone prior to half time.

Buford vs. Marist

December 19th, 2010
7:24 am

Buford does have better players than Marist, but that is NOT the bottom line! Marist consistently beats teams with talent like that of Buford and better than Buford. Buford does not see ANYTHING in AA that resembles a team like Marist. Marist wins by 3 TD’s, this is a no-brainer!
