Please post your picks for the 5 championships and then we’ll review them over the weekend. If you’re picking after the 4:30 game has started, no big deal — just pick for the other 4 & rest of the weekend.

With all due respect Mr. Carvell here is why Starr’s Mill will be the AAAA Champ by 11:00 p.m. tonight.

Size matters
Starr’s Mill OL
6′5″ 230 lbs.
6′7″ 270 lbs.
6′ 250 lbs.
6′ 283 lbs.
5′11″ 305 lbs.

Chattahoochee Front Six
DE 6′1″ 215 lbs.
NG 6′2″ 235 lbs.
DE 5′11″ 207 lbs.
LB 6′ 188 lbs.
LB 6′2″ 185 lbs.
LB 5′11″ 187 lbs.

Hooch is vunerable to the run. Starr’s Mill will control the clock via the run (passing enough to keep ‘em honest) to keep the Hooch QB off of the field as much as possible. Hooch will be worn down by the second half as long as Starr’s Mill does not turn it over which they have been very good at this year. Starr’s Mill is just too physical up front.

Kudos to the Hooch QB for 30 TD’s vs. 2 picks on the year which is very impressive. His contribution will be contained by keeping him on the sidelines.

Good luck to all. Congrats to all of the players for both teams. Hope for injury free play on both sides & a safe trip home.

@Just the Facts, it has been the most unpredictable year that I can remember in the state playoffs. I really don’t see any CLEAR favorites in any of the games, except for maybe Class A. And that’s it. I’m just picking to pick.

Thanks…I like watching that kid play the game…hard nosed. Was even more impressed with Starr’s Mill picking up the pieces once he was out of the game and pulling out the win. Was it a separated shoulder or collar bone injury? They showed on TV him trying to take his shoulder pads off, and he couldn’t even do that b/c of the pain.

@Just the Facts. Now the rest of the facts. You neglected to list the Hooch offensive line. By the weigh, they average 270 lbs across the line with a couple of 300lber’s. Hooch’s defensive line has been outweighed all year. still 14-0, soon to be 15-0. Chattahoocheee will find a way to win the game. GO HOOCH !!

Now that it’s known that CCHS’s outstanding WR has a broken finger, but will play, that will put them at a definie disadvantage. May be difficult to catch a pass with the support splint he has been given. Per the Moultrie Observer it was done by Dr. Andrews in Birmingham AL, a well-known sports doctor. Would have picked the Packers, but too close to call now with that news.

Tommy Hudson does have a broken thumb, but he has sayed that it doesn’t hurt…and with the motivation and excitement in these Seniors, that finger is the least of his worries. For me, being from Colquitt, only 2 of these games matter. Clinch (the winner), and my Packers, a team that has received no respect from the North Georgia writers. Packers defense shocks the state…Pack wins 35-20

Calhoun will upset Buford. Calhoun has been underestimated all season long. Everyone assumed there would be a let down with D1 recruits Darrick Rodgers and Nash Nance leaving. When I was there, Brookwood owned the dome and Cruise was just starting out as HC. Brookwood takes the trophy 45 minutes north on I-85 back to Snellville on Saturday night. Should be a good game, have always had respect for Colquitt, way more than Camden which I’ve seen play on a few occasions. And the rest of the South Georgia teams couldn’t find class if they went back inside the school building. Bunch of rednecks and thugs. Seen it both on the field and in the stands. That means all y’all in Lowndes. Happy to see what Colquitt brings to the Dome, because we sure are tired of the rest of the folks acting like they ain’t never been there before. It is high school football, after all…

Jay Stone

December 10th, 2010
3:53 pm

OK, here goes …
A I’m going with Savannah Christian. They beat Charlton County just as bad as Clinch did, they have the motivation of having lost in the final last year and just because Clinch is on Highway 84 doesn’t mean they’re anointable upon stepping off the bus.
AA Calhoun. Too tempting to compare scores here. That win over Carver was dang impressive.
AAA Despite the fact that Carrollton has one of the top 10 scoring teams in state history (628 points coming in), I’m going with Sandy Creek, whose defensive front handled a really good Peach County team last week. They’ll slow Carrollton down just enough to win in a high-scoring game.
AAAA Starr’s Mill. It appears rumors of Laskey’s demise were greatly exaggerated, and that kid is a difference maker. Plus, I think the Panthers’ special teams are every bit as good as Chattahoochee’s, particularly the punter. This should be a great game to watch.
AAAAA I can’t get past those five losses (yeah, I know, they were all to playoff teams, ect., etc.) and the huge amounts of points Colquitt has given up (421 to exact). I’m going with Brookwood.

I am glad my Packers are playing for the state title, but the absolute best team I saw all year was the Valdosta Wildcats. I don’t know what happened to them against Grayson other than a lot of turnovers. The Grayson team I witnessed had no business beating the Valdosta team we face in week ten. Valdosta was loaded and well coached. I didn’t want to play them again if they had beaten Grayson. Go PACK!

Could be wrong but I think we are going to see something in the range of 31 – 28 or 35 – 28. Either team is capable of coming out on top.

I watched Colquitt County four times this year, all of them were losses (Lowndes, Valdosta, S Panola) with the exception of Grayson, and they still were one of the most impressive 5A teams I can remember in a while. It is all about composure and they have a lot of it. Xzavier Ward will open holes for Tevin King and protect the QB enough to give them a credible shot at Brookwood. I almost would not mind Brookwood winning in order to get Gwinett Co/north GA off the hook, it will be a long and miserable year for every program up there if that title comes South again! We can afford to not have it for a year, but Gwinnett Co can not.

Why is the state wasting money by playing state championships in the dome? It would be nice if they played in a smaller stadium where it actually looks like there is someone there. With the numbers they have to choose from, yes Buford should win. How many middle schools do their players come from? Simpson is a great Coach, but you don’t go 82 and 4 without having the benefits of big numbers to draw from. And I have said nothing about recruiting. That is not the deal, it is the population they can draw from. Just like Calhoun, with so many schools close by they have the same advantage.

Redd, Buford has sent 3 to the pros, Darius Walker of Notre Dame probably being the best known. They’ve had 140 All State players. Can’t say how many went to UGA or GT. A OT D. Long is at UGA currently. Talent has been in abundance. though no NFL player that’s played more than 2 season.

Not looking good for my picks so far …

UGA currently has three players from Buford, according to the georgiadogs.com. OLs Kolton Houston and Dallas Lee and snapper Billy Johnson. Couldn’t find any Buford grads on the Bama roster.FWIW, former UGA DB Tim Wansley went to Buford, as did former Notre Dame running back Darius Walker. The Buford website lists dozens of signees over the past five years.

Hard to tell sometimes, but from looking at 3 halfs of football so far tonight, I’d put Buford and Calhoun up against both these AAAA teams, and I bet I’d come out a winner favoring AA. But maybe this half was a bad half for both AAAA teams.

Gotta remember this is High School football. One never knows if their team is going to show up. In 2005, the BW QB, David Pittman, hurt an ankle, couldn’t move, couldn’t throw, and Lowndes destroyed BW in the State Finals at their Concrete Palace. So I sympathize with Starrs Mill, a 14-1 season is still a great season, sad that it must end with a loss. (It’s only the start of the 4th qtr., but the handwriting is on the wall)

Going way back to the comments of “Just the Facts” at 1:28 P.M. this afternoon.
Every point you made is going in reverse. I guess Hooch contained your sizable OL. It was Starrs Mill’s quarterback that was kept on the sidelines. Hooch controlled the clock. Hooch stopped the S.M.’s run and actually ran all over them. Starrs Mill’s defense was the one that looke tired from being out there so long, and I can go on and on. Not one of your facts became a factor in this game. So I guess Hooch will be AAAA champ by 11:00 P.M. tonight. Oh by the way it wasn’t even close, that “DONUT” looks good. I am tempted to pick Chattahoochee.

Hey! Lokk at that! 2 for 2.

It seems like CC is on a roll, but so is Brookwood. They have the Div 1 thing going for them, but they have been beaten by 4 teams that are not as good as Brookwood. Who knows? This seems to be the year where the underdog comes out ahead. And I am not even sure who is the underdog in this game?

Sounds Bitter But…

R the AA and AAAA State Championships really just a battle of the GHSA rules abusers?

AA – Buford wins 5thchampionship playing in AA as a “public school” while accepting players from all over the state who pay $1000 to “become a Buford citizen” and play ball! How many Buford boyz live in Buford – maybe 50%.

AAAA – Chattahoocheee – a well coached team who was destined for a run at state after moving from 5A to 4A. Their chances improved greatly when 2 key senior players move from Northview HS as seniors – #5 Whitehurst and #22 Gregory along with two other Northview kids. O and their star Freshman RB Chase Nelson lives out of district in North Fulton.

Next up the superstar rule violaters – 5A and 1A teams. Private schools who abuse the A and AAAAA super schools.

Love it.

I don’t understand the controversy about Buford attracting so many good players. Is it illegal? Back in the day, my HS payed 25% of my tuition and my elementary school payed another 60% for me to play baseball and football at my chosen HS. There was no legal issue. 3/4 of my teammates were subsidized and we received a great education.

Calhoun is no different than Buford. The area around these schools is so heavily populated that they have so many to draw from. They are so accessible to get to. It is just not a level playing field for the rural area schools. Rural schools may have a group every 10 to 20 years to go all the way. Calhoun or Buford should never have an off year. There is no best team in the state of Georgia this year. Just a lot of good teams…….but no great team or teams. There will be teams left standing at the end of the year who can say they were the best and call themselves State Champs but this year has been a matter of who happened to be playing the best ball on any given week.

Doesn’t discount a state Championship however. A State Championship is a State Championship and the team left standing deserves it.

Go Pack!!!

Nick Hyder…I am not up on the HS rules. Is the classification determined by the size of the school or the the size of the city, county that the school is located. If players and their parents are willing to put up with the travel requirement, should that decision not fall to the families involed? HS kids in Canada live hundreds of miles from their homes to play on the HS hockey team of their choice. It is no big deal but it is a hardship the parents are willing to accept. Yet I don’t see kids in Brunswick, Ga deciding to play for a HS in Rome, Ga. Putting your children in what amounst to foster care to play sports is just not the way we do things here in the States. But a 30 or 40 mile commute is not out of the question if the families sign off on it. Your thoughts!

First of all, a huge tip of the cap to both Buford and Calhoun teams and their fans. What an epic game for history! The teams never quit and neither did the fans cheering. Great game to see.

Second, shame on the GHSA for the offiating in this championship game. I could not believe the blatent missed calls (for both sides) and the totally absurd penalty outcomes. (too many to mention) Also, shame on the Georgia Dome people for the chaos between games as it took us an hour to get from our seats back to the car afterwards.

Third, I knew there would be a lot of Wolf hatas on here this morning complaing about “recruiting”, “cheating” and so on. The truth is that Buford is a great little community who puts emphasis on its children. From playing little league baseball, basketball, and yes, football, to singing in the school choir (website says they have over 280 in their elementary school chorus), Buford is a town who wants to see their kids succeed. Not perfect, by any means (you can find warts anywhere), but every time I talk to people from there they have been polite and bragged about their kids. I would tend to classify them as a “hybrid” school – that being a public school who allows folks to pay tuition like private schools. Some pay tuition for their kids to attend Buford and play sports, some pay tuition for their kids to have opportunities in the arts and to learn in great technology-filled classrooms. It’s too bad that their success in their schools have lead to such jealousy filled hate acrossed the state. And before you ask (accuse), “No, I don’t live there but know many people who do and/or send their kids there.” It does seem to be the kind of school system that I would like to send my children to.

Again, though, congrats to both Buford and Calhoun for being great little towns who support their kids!

@ Hit A Single … Buford City Schools … We live 15 mins away in Forsyth County.

For Non-resident students – applications are completed and tuition costs $2000 per year. There is a cutoff of how many kids are accepted and we applied several years ago – our son was accepted, but we chose to go to the new high school in Forsyth – Lambert!

I think many kids from Gwinnett, Hall, and Forsyth go here with some moving in. One reason is that historically Forsyth county football has been terrible, but this year 4 of the 5 high schools made the playoffs – coaching is the best I’ve seen ever in this area. #41 @ Buford is 6′-5″, 235# junior out of Lambert district as well as a couple of others. Why would parents do this? Because they feed from at least 3 counties – they should play up at AAAA or even AAAAA with the talent they get.

Public school, but private as well – a great question would be – how many males are accepted each year to the school, then how many play football? We will never know

poor.ole.lambert…..good info. The amount of male players to male students would be reasonably high don’t you believe? I still don’t understand the controversy. In my HS classification it was never intended to be kept a secret. It was common knowledge and published regularly in the newspapers where kids were going and the amount their elementary school was willing to pay for that privledge. (ranged from 60% to 75% based on what the AD at your elementary school could afford) But the HS always kicked in 25%. It was important to me and my parents that I play with the best competition and also received a great education. Keeping the cost down was important and the HS and elementary schools saw to that, thank goodness.

The game last night was simply amazing and the Cougars controlled the entire game. This group of seniors had a vision back in the Spring and came up with a list of accomplishments they wanted to fulfill for the 2010 season:

1. Make the Playoffs
2. Win Region
3. 10-0
4. Win First Round of Playoffs
5. Play a South Georgia Team
6. State Champions

There was only one item to check off the list and #6 was crossed off the list last night!! The cheerleaders at school had made a banner that had the list one it and posted it in the cafeteria early in the week. There was a celebration at school and the banner was brought out with a paintbrush and Coach Crowder checked off the last item himself!! It as a great evening to top off an equally amazing season. 15 straight wins ALL WITHOUT A WEEK OFF!! (Hooch’s bye week was the first week of the season….)

Congratulations to Coach Crowder, Carmichael, Corbett, Satterfield, Strine, Davis, Mahfouz, Carroll, Linsley, Wiley, Fusco, and Taylor on an amazing season!!

Congratulations to the seniors and I know that many of you are heading to play football in college and hope that the recruitment process goes well! My advice about the recruitment process is to take all the offers, look closely what is best for YOU, go to sleep and when you wake up the next morning look yourself in the mirror and say “I am going to ________________ to play football.” You will make the right choice…..trust me :-)

Underclassmen, just like stated earlier to Starr’s Mill: NEXT YEAR SEASON STARTS TODAY AS WELL!! You now have a bullseye on your back because you will be the DEFENDING STATE CHAMPIONS when you take the field in 2011.

I am truly honored to be apart of that school and enjoy every minute of everyday I get to be there!!

————————————————————————————————————————————————-

To all the other bloggers on here I have enjoyed this season of posting with you, jawing back and forth, and following another year of high school football.

I hope that everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend and the three remaining games that are scheduled for today.

Merry Christmas to everyone and have a Happy New Year!!

Was at the Dome last night in support of the defending 3 time AA State Champion Buford Wolves…

Errrr Scratch Dat… Now FOUR time State Champions!!

Great game.. Buford took a commanding 17 point lead only to get very sloppy & allow the Jackets of Calhoun back into the game.. Their kicker (99) is D1 material.. Nailed a 45 yarder that’d been good from 55+..

But in OT the Wolves do what they do best – PREVAIL!!

A few notes: Calhouns fans were outstanding – Supporting their team the entire game, even when down 17 in the third… QB was better than Duh Rick’s caddy… #5 was not ‘all that’ & I never saw the one called the “Assian”.. Never a factor.. # Buford’s Vadal Alexander was blowing up his side of the line all night…

To Calhoun – Maybe next year, but that’s been your battle cry for 3 straight & the Wolves have many returning – So a 5-peat is well within reach!!!

I see some of my fellow Patriots and the dirty trojan fans are doing a lttle rhyming…

SANDY CREEK and carrollton tonight for the AAA Championship but
tonight the trojan tears, bust, and rips.

It’s the season were families have Christmas trees and wreaths but
not a single person in carrollton has a full set of teeth.

Half of carrollton is on welfare but
The Sandy Creek Patriots don’t really care.

We live in Fayette Co and receive bigger paychecks and
the people from carrollton are bunch inbreds without necks.

The trojan fans though are lucky they can hitch up their moblie homes
and bring everything they own with them to the Dome.

Win or lose Trojans just remeber to take a deep breath before
you know it you wil back in carrollton to finish doing your meth.

I haven’t read every post, so I don’t know if anyone else has posted about this problem. Last night after the Calhoun-Buford game, security directed the exiting fans toward the same doors where all the Chattahoochee and Starrs Mill fans were coming in. It took about 35 minutes to get out, not to mention all of the pushing and shoving. If there had been any type of emergency, such as a fire, a lot of people would have been injured.

Next year I hope security personnel do a better job of routing the fans between games.

Just want to clarify something. But Whitehurst and Gregory from hooch did come from northview yes. But they came to hooch purely by THEIR own choice. Not their parents not recruiting. THEIRS. They were both tired of losing and wanted to try and win something their last year of high school. and they did. Congrats to them they played great, And Star’s mills had a good year too. And to be clear northview high school is only around a 5 -10 minute drive from hooch. Districts are extremely close here.

Calhoun – great game yesterday. You have great team, program and fans. You should be very proud as I am sure you are. Lat year and this year a play or two different and you are back to back champions and some of these pinheads on this site are calling you cheaters.

First my kids do go to Buford. They are in the 3rd and 5th grades. We live in Gwinnett County but not in Buford. We are about 15 min from the schools. My kids already play rec sports for Buford. Like most of the tuition students they are at Buford because of the academics and the high expectations for all of their students to excell at the three A’s (Academics, Arts, Athletics). They are there because the High School is 700 students total (thus the AA clasification) vs Mill Creek which is 3,500 students. And we like it small so thats not changing. The kids that they go to school with today will be the kids they will graduate with not get moved to another school when another is built and a line moves. They will play sports with the same kids every year for the next 10 years. How many High School Head coach’s have EVER shown up at an 7 yr old practice to talk to the kids and encourage them? How many elementary schools have had High School players show up for a pep rally. Sure does not feel like cheating when our kids are showing up for speed camps and football camps all summer starting at 7 years old. Looks a whole lot more like desire and want. They know from that age that they are playing for their team, family and community when they put on that uniform. Funny thing is that when you ask a student or parent what they like about Buford or why their kids go to Buford there are a lot of things they will tell you before they get to athletics / sports. We have had lots of our kids friends who do not attend Buford ask us about it and we have never said anything about winning on Friday nights. Its all about the scool and the community.

For those of you haters that will never get it. Get used to it because we are not going anywhere. For the others good luck and we look forward the competition.

Go Wolves!!

Down in Class A, Clinch is doing it again.

Somehow, despite zero resources, a minuscule per capita income, zero attractions, a zillion acres of swamp (plus a swamp fire this year), and desolate isolation, Clinch continues to be a dynasty.

And they’re usually good in all sports they play.

I don’t understand it. It’s definitely not recruiting. Guess that swamp water has somehow morphed into superior genetics.

the buford/calhoun game was oustanding. as happened last year, calhoun committed more turnovers and that was the game. other than turnovers, bufords pinpoint passing attack was critical. no team could beat calhoun with only a running game. based on what i have seen so far, these could be the two best high school teams in our state. one last thought, i am worn out with hearing how buford cheats. they play by the rules and if that makes anyone unhappy, then change the rules, but don’t blame buford because they use the rules to their benefit. also for the record, I am a calhoun fan whoes grandson starts on tne calhoun defense. with a great coach like hal lamb, we will be back.

@ Jason: refs were the worst, you are correct.

However, there were horrible missed calls on both sides and embarrassing penalty assessments that aided the Jackets on several occasions. Most fans agree that they were awful, but hardly created the outcome. Calhoun has a great coach, team and fans. Please don’t let your disappointment sound like sour grapes. Most all Buford fans I talked to today have the utmost respect for your Jackets and were just glad to see such a hard-fought game.

A couple of years ago, I watched Propst call a timeout in Tifton just to chew out the referees after he thought a call didn’t go his way. The Packers completely unraveled as Propst quit thinking about strategy and continued to mull over a call that wasn’t going to change and was over and done with.

Propst is going to build a cult-like status in Moultrie, if he hasn’t already. He’ll have the entire county convinced that every referee, every opposing coach, even the administrators are out to get him. They’re not, but he’ll have his minions convinced.

This is as close as he’ll come to a title. He should put up another good year next year, then it will start to unravel and it will do so quite messily.

How do I know? We had a Propst by another name. He coached boys’ basketball. If anybody from the Valdosta Association is hanging around this evening, they can probably name that tune in two notes. It’s been nearly 10 years since we had him, but he left quite the memory … and nearly two years of probation as he pulled one of the most unsportsmanlike stunts I’ve ever seen in a game against Pierce County. It wasn’t anything against Pierce, but an attempt to show up referees.

Both teams had turnovers but I wouldn’t put the weight of a loss on a running back fumbling while trying to score nor would I say the best team lost because the final score settled who was the best team… Cloud 9 you have been an awesome read. Please keep us posted on the Tucker vs. Northside Warner Robins game as well as the Lowndes vs. Camden game. Last time I checked, Tucker, who never loses, won the coin toss and will be playing at home.

My predictions b/4 playoffs –
A – clinch county
AA – Buford
AAA – sandy creek
AAAA – hooch
AAAAA – Camden

4 of 5 not bad

Hooch will NOT be a contender next year! I don’t care if they have Bo Jackson and Herschel Walker — no o-line, passing game will struggle, no kicker, defense losing big time players, and special teams will have no spark. Hooch will go 7-3 next year, make playoff, and lose in first round!

Been watching the games on TV since I couldn’t go due to illness. I have to say, GPB has done an excellent job! My only complaint has been that rotating logo that shatters into a hundred pieces when they come back live after a replay. It has gotten a little old and sometimes is not out of the way when the next play starts up. A pretty small complaint for almost 12 hours of watching.

Congratulations to all the teams that made it to the finals. I almost feel like my team has been there since they hare featured once or twice in 4 out of 5 of the football promos GPB has been running. ;)

I’m out but before I go Congratulations to all the State champs and the runner ups for making it this far. I know it will always hurt for the kids that came up short. Seriously football and sports are a small part of life. Win or lose just be thankfull you could play football, cheerlead, or march in the band. There a lot of kids that get a bad deal and are not healthy enough to do any of it.

I know I can come off as a jerk but I can take it as much as I dish it out. What comes around goes around. Sandy Creek back 2 back and when we do lose I HOPE y’all give me hell.

Hit A Single – Buford has 1 elementary (k-1), The Academy (2-5), 1 middle school (6-8) and 1 High School (9-12). Most tuition kids enter the schools by the 5th grade. They only allow so many students per grade. So you have the city kids and then the remaining slots go to tuition kids. The older you are the harder it is to get in. Once you are in you have to mess up (bad grades, low test scores, behavior, etc..) to not get to return the next year.

OK, Packers, so much for the suburban sissies from Gwinnett. You may have got 609 yards, but mistakes are mistakes. You gave up 52 points to a team that was very much badmouthed for a month by many region 1 fans here. So, now, the results are in. The AAAAA Champion is Brookwood. Colquitt was just as scary to play against as they said they were going to be. No question. Well coached too. But sometimes, one beats themselves. But one way or the other, it is the performance on the field. Some can moan and groan about what might have been. What matters is what really was happening on the field.

Had to watch this game on the web from Philadelphia where another class act, Navy, beat Army 31-17. Three players from BW played for Army. I’m sure if those three players were from Region 1, there are those that would insist Army would have won. Uh huh.

Is there any truth to Sandy Creek appealing again to GHSA Executive Committee and asking to play 2A after 2011 so they can keep winning state football champiuonships? Or will they go play 4A after Northside-Warner Robins goes back to 5A due to population growth?

Nothing against North GA, but Sandy Creek does not consider itself North Georgia. We are West Central Georgia with teams like Newnan, LaGrange, Griffin, East Coweta, Starr’s Mill, Whitewater, and Carrollton. You need to be in Atlanta or north of I-20 to be North GA. That you have to be either North or South is a false dichotomy.

So Mr. Lowndes, I guess you’re saying Brookwood doesn’t deserve to be state champs, that that title should belong to Lowndes? Is that what you’re saying? Maybe you should call the Georgia High School Athletic Association and appeal. Tell them the trophy should be Lowndes because Brookwood doesn’t deserve it. What about North Gwinnett? Maybe they deserve it more? Or Collins Hill, or Hillgrove, or Camden? Just not Brookwood. Is that what you are saying? Brookwood is not good enough? I beg to differ Mr. Lowndes. @moronic fool: We have always been a small AAAA school. We lost 250 students from the previous year which put us in AAA classification – no “appealing” involved. In retrospect, we might have preferred to stay in AAAA because it was much easier to win than AAA. Overall, the teams in AAA are tougher around the state than AAAA. We know, we have played in both recently. It would have been easier to repeat in AAAA. All of the other 4 high schools in our county are AAAA and were in the same region as us (along with Northgate in Coweta), so drives to games were great and we tended to dominate them.

If our population grows, we will move back up to AAAA. Although, I hope we stay in AAA for a while and build rivalries with awesome teams like Carrollton and Peach County.

We’ll take our small stadium, our crappy field, and our two championship rings any day over what you have. Go Creek.

You can “call” us whatever you like, but we reject the North GA label. We are West Central Georgia. There is a University of WEST Georgia in nearby Carroll County. People don’t drive to Sandy Creek to see the leaves change in the fall. If you divide the state equally into three vertically stacked regions based on population (not area), Sandy Creek would be in the middle one. People in Fayette and Coweta take long commutes to get to work. The whole North vs. South thing is stupid anyway, so that is another reason why we refuse to identify with either.

I think there will be several contenders from Gwinnett next year similar to this year. I like the rivalry between “North” and “South” and just wish everyone would recognize that all areas have their issues even if they are not the same. What a game in the AAAAA Final! Colquitt’s offense showed that they deserved to be in the final. You have to give credit to Colquitt for playing their hearts out until the end and to their fans for the number of them who made the drive to Atlanta to support their team.

Say what you will about Probst, but going for it on 4th down from their own 26 near the end of the 1st half was a gutsy call that should have been a game changer. Come up short and Brookwood is already in field goal range and likely would have started the 2nd half with a 3 score lead and the ball in their hands. Picking up the 1st down at that point, and finishing the drive with a touchdown with the clock at 0:00 put Colquitt back in the game.

With all that said, Brookwood showed why the deserved to be State Champions. Their offense was almost unstoppable and the defense made enough big plays to keep them ahead. Fans from Lowndes and everywhere else can make all the claims they want, but Brookwood beat all 3 of the other teams who made the final 4 this season (Collins Hill & Grayson in the regular season and Colquitt tonight) and won the big game on the field. That’s more than anyone else can say.

Congratulations to Brookwood and Buford and all the State Champions. Awesome football games! To recap, with 20 High Schools in Gwinnett, we have less than 5% of the High Schools in the State, but 40% of the State Football Champions.

Now I really have to congratulate the Colquitt County Packers for being the only team from 1AAAAA who was not eliminated from the playoffs the first time they faced a Gwinnett County opponent. Of course their wins against Gwinnett were against a #4 and a #3 seed, but they were still wins. Ultimately they learned what most of us already know, it is almost impossible to win 3 games in a row against Gwinnett County football teams. Welcome to the Gwinnett County grinder, better luck next time.

It is fantastic to see the Brookwood program cap off years of excellence with another state title. In recent years I heard plenty of grumbling that Coach Crews could not do more with so much talent coming up through the Brookwood system. Nice job silencing your critics Coach!

I was very impressed with ALL of the athletes this year, including those who did not win at the dome. There were thousands of athletes who thrilled us with their performances. What a treat to watch Georgia High School football. Now it is on to girls’ Basketball for everyone. Thanks to all the posters on the board who offered such interesting insights into their teams.

To be honest, I must say that when I looked at the brackets and saw that BW was going to have to beat Camden, then Lowndes, then North Gwinnett. which has beaten BW the last six time they’ve played, I didn’t think BW’s chances were very good. But each team ended up losing eventually before BW played them. So remember, one would rather be lucky than good. One way or the other, it’s the results on the field tha matter, and that makes BW AAAAA Champions.

Well an amazing year has come to an end. Is it possible that all the nasty negativety will come to an end… GA has a great history in HS football, not just south GA. AAAA, AAAAA titles both belong to the Metro area, I believe the quote was silver spooned sissys several weeks ago!!!!! Now South GA has great teams and a strong history absolutely… But lets get over the thought that South GA is far better the the metro area or North GA… and these referenced araes can’t compete. They did and they won case closed…

All of GA is strong, and we need to respect each and every team regardless of geographical locations. I’m proud of my Longhorns they gave their all and lost to statesboro who played better than us that night. I’m proud of each and every team that played regardless of the W or L, North or South. These are HS athletes and tought to play fair and hard, a lesson needed for some parents.

Congratulations to ALL the newly Crowned State Champions on all levels as well as to all teams and players that have given us an amazing year of Football.

Looking forward to next year already.

Re: Says a lot about the state of football in AAAAA this year when the state champ gives “over” 600 yards of offense in the championship game.

Says alot about a team that has ‘over 600 yards in offense’ and can only score 38 points…..and 10 were after the game was already decided and seven points after a phantom pass interference call in the end-zone. Add in each team’s return yardage and see how they compare; CC had almost none (if any) and BW did. That shortened the field for BW so they didn’t rack up the yards from scrimmage line. Plus BW had longer plays from scrimmage so they didn’t have many first downs. Learn how to analyze a game, it will open your eyes to another world of football. By the way Yo-Yo, Garden City 82-68 over Throckmorton in Texas Division I 6-man football championship.

@vikingsrule, I would offer that Brookwood beat the #3 seed but the best team in 1-AAAAA since the #1 and #2 seeds both quit playing two weeks ago. Just because they were seeded higher does not mean they were the better teams in the end.

@yo, yards on offense do no good if they don’t produce points. I don’t care if you march up and down the field all day as long as you don’t get across the goal line or though the uprights. Valdosta had over twice the passing yardage and I think even more rushing yards than Grayson but still lost 22-0.

It was an interesting year that will only add fuel to the discussion fires for next year!

Packer Proud-can’t you just congratulate Brookwood? Talk about refs-what about the pantom interference call on Brookwood in the end zone? Ys South Ga. Is good in football-that is it. Brookwood has already won the state in men’s Cross Country, second in girl’s cross country, final four in softball, now the state championship in football. I know all y’all have is football. Oh yea, Brookwood also is in the top 10-along with FIVE magnet schools- for highest SAT scores. Oh, but they are a bunch of thugs. ANd, you are the classless one talking trash. To all the south schools – Yes, we expect you to be good next year. We’d love you all to believe Gwinnett as a whole will be down and that this is a fluke season. NG alone has all 4 running back returning, monsters on the D-line are back, QB that spent 1/2 the season taking snaps is back. And Grayson returns a beast of a D-lineman. Go on 1-AAAAA. You are the best. No Gwinnett teams can hang with you.

Brookwood – again, great game. Thanks for keeping Gwinnett proud !

Jim Jim Jim, you do not want to argue intelligence with me dear sir. Oh, I get it, Im from south Georgia so that makes me mentally irregular. You can say what you want about who beat who and try to rationalize it in your pathetic attempts to belittle me. I saw all of these plays several times this year and I can tell you that Brookwood is not the best team AAAAA. Now granted, they won the championship and they deserve the credit for that and really and truly that is all that counts. BUT, on any given Friday night any one of about ten teams in AAAAA could do that. I am simply saying that Valdosta and Lowndes both had better teams this year. Brookwood are the champs and congratulations to them for that but they didnt beat the best team to do it.

NG in the House

December 12th, 2010
12:26 pm

@vikingsrule Under your logic, we could say NG would have beat Brookwood as well. We beat CH, and CH beat Loundes, and Loundes beat CC so obviously NG would have beat Loundes and thus they would have won the Championship.

None of that works. And we are not in the belief that south GA is of lower intelligence. Ever been to Gainesville, GA? KIDDING !

Brookwood won. I agree, there were 10 teams in AAAAA that could have won on any given night. You didn’t. We didn’t. CH didn’t. Camden didn’t. Grayson didn;t. Valdosta didn’t. McEachern didn’t. None of the others did.

Brookwood did. State Championship is in Gwinnett. Gwinnett is the SEC of GAHS Football. And I am not an SEC fan, but I respect the quality that they play game in and game out.

Great game Brookwood ! !

Jim, sorry for my harsh words-really uncalled for and I do apologize. I just wish people would say congratulations and move on. In reality, there are several teams that could be holding the trophy, the three from Region 1 and the half dozen or so from Region 7 and 8. And, I do disagree with you on Brookwood not being the best team. They are truly a team and work well together. They were due. Again, sorry for any disrespect in my last post. I just wish everyone would say great year and move on. Plus, I don’t see how you say Valdosta and Lowndes are better teams when they were both beat in their back yeards-by teams that Brookwood beat. There is no rationization in that-none at all.

Fred

December 12th, 2010
12:29 pm

@vikingsrule, It is easy to say your team is better but the reality is Valdosta and Lowndes both lost in the quarter finals. CC was able to win. Maybe they were playing above their heads and maybe they weren’t. They were able to take on a very tough playoff schedule and win when they had to. Many people say that only championships count, not whether a team is consistently in it at the end. Using that standard, Brookwood was the best in 5-AAAAA this year with CC second and Collins Hill and Grayson 3rd or 4th. Again, this is based on the teams that were able to win when it counted, when one loss sent you home. Brookwood 5-0, CC 4-1, CH and Grayson 3-1, Hillgrove, Lowndes, Mill Creek and Valsosta 2-1, Camden 1-1.

Congratulations to Brookwood on their championship and to all the teams that kept playing into late November and December!

Yea the refs made some calls on them but the majority were on us. And our offense was good the defense is what lost it for us. Well actually that could go both ways because we turned the ball over and hiked the ball too high. Brookwood was better and I said that. And I wasn’t smack talking the only reason I said anything was because someone called our players classless thugs. Im pretty sure you would agree that we are not after seeing them play their hearts out then cry when they lost. But they should hold their heads high because we are proud of them and brookwood did a good job. In the end their offense was just too much for our defense. That running back of theirs is really fast and knows where the holes are to run. And that kicker man is he good! What’s funny is that the Marist players are on Facebook saying how horrible the Hooch is. Be careful because you know there are usually 6 degrees of separation, but in high school your Catholic arch rivals can easily send us what you write, you arrogant jacka**es. You want to know why we beat you? You probably have the weakest secondary in the state. If it wasn’t for #20 basically covering his side plus the middle and your defensive line, we would have beat you by more than we did. All season long I have been reading about your weakness on defense and didn’t believe it could be that bad, but didn’t get on here and say a word about it after the game. Everything I read on here about your secondary was TRUE. So guess what? NO, you shouldn’t be wearing a ring right now. What you should be doing is begging your daddies to put more $$ in the pot to get a decent DB’s coach. You mean to tell me that you pay all that money to go to school there and they haven’t schooled you on social networking?? Let me give you the basics….what you put in print is there for good, even if you delete it later. I hope they sent the Tucker people the crap you posted about them, too. It’s interesting that the people on here who are claiming that their team is better than the AAAAA State Champion Brookwood Broncos all seem to be fans of teams that didn’t even make the top 4. Colquitt County fans aren’t doing much complaining. Collins Hill and Grayson fans have accepted the results. On the other hand, the south Ga fans from teams who were out of the playoffs weeks ago are still claiming that their team is better than everyone else.

Using south Ga logic, Dacula should be the state champions because Dacula is the only team to beat Brookwood, who beat Collins Hill, who beat Lowndes…and Brookwood beat Grayson, who beat Valdosta…and Brookwood beat Hillgrove who beat Camden County…and Brookwood beat Colquitt County, who beat their whole half of the playoff bracket…so Dacula must be the best.

I have a sister who teaches and lives in N Gwinnett and has given me a bit of a background on Brookwood. They are tops in academics and have a great overall sports program, but they are the envy of much of Gwinnett. Also, GFL youth program makes a big impact thru the whole county. As does their baseball program. Gwinnett County doesn’t need to recruit. They have it!

Carrollton’s coach blew that game worse than i’ve seen any coach do something like that in a LONG time. Carrollton had three fourth down chances to kick field goals. That’s 9 points folks. The score would have been 16-14 Carrollton and would have stayed that way because Sandy Creek could not score on Carollton’s Defense. The fumble at the 1 yd line by Carrollton would have never happened because they would have had the lead and would have taken a knee to run out the clock. BAD coaching being way to prideful. Just a sorry effort by the coach. Really cheated these young men who gave everything they had.

Anyone with common sense would have kicked those three field goals. All three were well within Carrollton’s kicker’s range. Chip shots. Their coach choked in the big game, not the players. You take points anyway you can get them in the state championship game. Especially against that Sandy Creek defense. That game is still blowing my mind with the stupid coaching decisions.

Sandy Creek had three stud players….other than that they were not better than Carrollton.

Fred we actually agree. Never said Brookwood didn’t deserve to win. They did. They didn’t make the mistakes Colquit did. (mistakes are a part of the game) They (Colquit) couldn’t come up with the big play on defense when they needed to.

What I am saying is (what Max Preps said at the beginning of the year and at the time I didn’t like) and that is that there were no great or very good teams in the State of Georgia this year. This was a year in AAAAA that any one of 10 teams could have been state champs.

Congrats to Brookwood who played a great game. Our Packers played a great game on offense but the simple fact was we didn’t score enough. You guys took advantage of the mistakes we made and that is a quality of a championship team. I could say you take away the two special teams mistakes and it would be a 38-38 game but again it is what it is. Next year the Pack will reload on offense with a green but very talented Qb and a set of running backs that mirrors Tevin King. Our Defense will be another year older and experienced. The Pack will take the rest of December off then back to work in January in the weight room. @Tracker 185 If even half of the Trojans are coming back next year, I believe you will be in the dome. The team played disciplined football and they are well coached. Yes, Creek won the game but there is no shame in losing because they showed that they were a top notch program and I am not trying to disrespect Peach County because they are very good as well but Carrollton’s running game would have worn them out and won going away.

Plowboy-glad you cleared the diesel thing up for me. That knowledge will get me far in life.

Nonetheless, you are a south ga person and are for your team-fair enough. I just get tired of the south ga v. north ga talk-typically started by south ga. people. The inbred comments, etc. are made-I think-because football is all anyone thinks about as far as south ga. athletics. The s. Ga. people seem to keep that argument going and typically disapear when football is over becuase that is all they have.

Region 8-AAA

One On One With The Great One … Please understand that the GHSA has the final say in where teams are put. After the 2007 season, Buford petitioned for 7-AAA but was denied. So learn a little back facts before you bash a school for the GHSA’s decision. Not to mention, Buford played two of the top AAA teams in North Georgia for the 2008-2010 seasons in North Hall & Gainesville. And to my knowledge, Buford played each pretty handily. So we know Buford is top in all classifications. I could see Buford 3rd in the state behind Carrollton and Sandy Creek. Enough said.

@observer…if you guys did score 16 we would have punched it in on the last play to make it 21 Carrollton still woul have lost. How can you say 3 good players then say we had a great defense…you are twisted. Carrollton did all they could do and it was not enough. lets play the if game. if we had not blown coverage this game would have been a shut out. if the ref didnt miss the pass interference call there would be no fumble on the one when we recoeved which I call justice. Trust me there are more than 3 studs. and if so, I guess the coach is that great….Go Creek!! WE ARE THE 2 TIMES STATE CHAMPIONS…We love our haters they keep us motivated..

Jim, you are joking right. No, actually you are showing your ignorance about something you know nothing about. Lowndes, Valdosta, Valdosta State, Valwood, Georgia Christian and Open Bible Christian have over 460 sports titles in football, baseball, basketball, softball, track, wrestling, soccer, tennis, golf, and weightlifting.
The Lowndes girls basketball team once went three consecutive years without a loss. During this time they were crowned region, state and national champs. Its not just football that makes Valdosta Titletown. Our kids compete well in all sports and they have won at all levels. Maybe you should take the time and research something before you spew off at the mouth. YOU have no clue sir!

The Pack had a great year!! Keep your heads up!! I have been on both sides of the State Championship game. I was a freshman on the 91 state runners up team that lost to Lagrange 17-16. It was hard but the thing is we have to get back to work for the next year. I was also a senior on the 94 State Championship team who went 15-0. That was a very special year that came with its ups and downs. To Brookwood Broncos, congrats and cherish it for years to come because you will always be known as being part of the highest scoring game in championship history. I guess I’ll have to start watching my Duke Bluedevils mop the floor more now that football is over. Oh yea the Falcons are still playing! Go Falcons! 11-2!

Joe and Jim, First of all Colquitt is not part of titletown and secondly Jim, I simply pointed out that we have titles in all sports as an answer to your claim that all we know is football. In the last 5 years only football as far as state titles with Lowndes and Valdosta. However, this was not your original argument.

Jim

sorry plowboy if I acted rudely-no disrespect intended. I hope you accept my apologies. My point is-and it is not a mpint but actual truth-south ga and/or titletown simply offers no competeition in other GHSA sports. Trust me, I have respect for Valdosta and Lowndes. I graduated HS in 87 and Valdosta and Clarke Ccentral were extremely feared programs (Football that is) in the state.

Great set of games this weekend… Congrats to Brookwood , Hooche , SC , Buford and Clinch……No matter what part of the state you call home or pull for , we should all agree that Brookwood , Hooche , Colquitt ,Calhoun and Clinch were impressive teams to watch…..Watching the games this weekend , I think the future of Georgia football is the spread offense……. In the near future the Camden’s ,Lowndes ,Tucker’s and Carver’s of Georgia football won’t be able to keep up with the Colquitt’s , Chattahoochie’s and Calhoun’s of Georgia football if changes aren’t made…….In Houston county, Hoco and Warner Robins switch to the spread this year and I think Northside will soon follow….

Jim, no offense taken but you are mistaken. You had a point when you said the last 5 years. But now you are saying in the last 20 that we only have football. Lowndes and Valdosta have both played in the state championship game in baseball in the highest classification and Lowndes has won it twice. Valdosta has won the state championship in tennis and weightlifting. Now that is in the last 20 years and only counting state championships in the highest classification. If you count the two christian schools then there are other championships in other sports than football also. Go further back than 20 and you find even more in other sports besides football. Count region and championships and not just state and the number goes through the roof in sports other than football. Your claim is just simply not true.

The mighty Broncos ran roughshod over the hapless Colquit Packers Saturday night. The Broncos proved that they are the best team in the state. Now the rest of the state has discovered what Gwinnett already knew, that the Broncos are the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. We will continue to run over, around and thru the likes of Grayson, South, Pview, the rest of Gwinnett and all of South Ga. A new Dynasty has begun. We will dominate and destroy all who dare to play us. All other schools bow down to the Broncos, THE CHAMPIONS OF GEORGIA.

To All … I have been pondering for some time … I would like to congratulate Buford on 4 straight. I do believe they should stay in AA … they cannot compete at the AAA, AAAA, or AAAAA levels … not enough students or talent of players as compared to the larger schools and elite larger programs. These other classifications just have too many kids to pick from … Buford can only pick from 1 middle school and clearly they don’t recruit! I’m surprised their numbers don’t allow them to play in A. They are the best AA program in Georgia football history, but no where close as it relates to the best in Georgia High School history. Just thinking!

@yo, Thanks for the clarification. Now I understand what you meant and we were very close in intent. I like to believe that the 10 teams were all very good with no stand out team but then I try to look on the positive side.

@plowboy, I think you have me confused with someone else. I make it a point to *never* attack anyone personally as I believe that if you cannot make your point without personally attacking someone, you must not have much of a point to make. I may take exception with someone’s point and address that issue but as best as I can remember (and I checked back over the past several days worth of postings) I never said anything about anyone’s intelligence. I take exception with anyone that says any region is inherently better than the other, has an unfair advantage or anything of the sort. More often than not, someone claiming to be from south Ga starts up with all the nonsense about south teams being so much better than north, especially Gwinnett. I will argue that point all day long.

I very much understand why Valdosta/Lowndes Co. is called title town. Remember, I said I remember back in the early ’60s how Valdosta and Avondale used to contend for the titles. Numbers can be made to say anything anyone wants them to. My point, and I think some of the others that post from metro Atlanta, is that many of the schools in the metro area have had a lot of success for the amount of time their schools have been in existence. Normalize the numbers to take into account the difference in almost 100 years of sports vs the 10 years or less for many metro teams and the numbers look much closer.

On a personal note, I congratulate you on dual degrees and the success you have had. I would hold you up as an example to anybody how hard work coupled with the proper education can be successful. I hope you are able to work with the student athletes to give them a positive role model away from sports. I am afraid too many of our youth look at athletics as the only and/or best way to succeed when the percentages are so very stacked against them.

Reality:
I agree with you on Brookwoods linebacker. He may be the best player i have seen this year. I know grayson or Colquitt couldn’t block him.

Of the teams i saw in person this season I think North Gwinnett and Brookwood were the best. Colquitt and Kell were also very good. Colquitt must have used the early season games as practice games to prepare for the playoffs, they were much better than Valdosta. Didn’t get to see Lowndes or Camden so can’t say anything about them.

Players that impressed me the most were
Brookwoods linebacker #38 Lynch.
Colquitts Running back #22 King
Grayson’s Linebacker #4 Denzel can’t spell his last name. (No double degrees for me plowboy :)
Grayson Linebacker #18 Peek

I didn’t get the chance to see Collins hill;s QB

@P. Bull Terrier – thank you. I tried to say about the same thing a couple of blog pages ago, but apparently some folks that aren’t from around here insist upon holding on to their fantasies. Maybe we should just pity them, and let them stay there. Nothing we can say to them will make any difference. They will ALWAYS be the best, period. Every year. Every game. Every moment. Pity the slobs.

@grayram, can’t go wrong with listing Lynch #38. Has a very low center of gravity which makes his blitz very effective. He can push the lineman either out of his way or into the QB. Syracuse is getting a quality player.

And that #22 King for Colquitt sure can move and is shifty. Both Brookwood backs are quick off the ball and can get through the line in a hurry, which leads to many yards. But that #22 seems quicker, and shiftier.

@poor.ole.lambert – are you kidding me? Buford has plenty of horses, and so did Calhoun. Put either of them on the field with any AAAAA school, and either AA school will stick around. Besides the AAAAA final, the AA final was at least as good and just as talented.

The fact of the matter is: Brookwood, Hooch, Sandy Creek, Buford, and Clinch are the champions. That will not change— AND who finished second/third/fourth will soon be forgotten.

And yes, the North kicked our butt this year. Get over it!

In the interest of improving sportsmanship and good taste on this blog, here is a collection of big mouths and bad taste posted earlier by some Packer fans. Well for any of us that enjoy HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL this was a great weekend! Watched the Saturday games on TV (Thanks GPB) but went to the THRASHERS game on friday night at Phillips and was able to get to the dome for the last 10+ minutes of the CHATTAHOOCHEE / STARRS MILL game.

By this point in the game it was all but decided, CHATTAHOOCHEE looked VERY GOOD! I don’t know if it was the fact that they didn’t have a 100% healthy Laskey playing or what but the STARRS MILL team I watched the time I was there did NOT look like the same team that dominated our EAST PAULDING RAIDERS a few weeks ago!

There seemed to be a good crowd on BOTH sides with CHATTAHOOCHEE having maybe a few more folks..anyway they were LOUD! Classy act by the HOOCH coach who near the end of the game went ON THE FIELD to get a player who was trying to fight a STARRS MILL player (don’t know what started it, doesn’t matter), coach took him off the field, gave him an earfull and let him pace up and down behind the bench the rest of the game!

CONGRAT’S to both teams as it takes a LOT to get this far and these two teams (as well as all the others who played) deserve a HUGE GOOD JOB GUYS!

Hope everyone on the blog enjoyed the season, let’s get ready for next year!!!!

@B-TownWolves5Peat — “Marist should be like Buford and win some championships”: LOL — I don’t take anything away from Buford at all, and am glad to give your school credit. But don’t get lost in all your hype. Despite competing up two classes with fewer high school students than Buford, Marist has won the AAAA Directors Cup every year. Marist won 9 State Championships in 2008 (plus runner up in football and volleyball that year); had 6 last year; already has 2 this year. Two state championships in football and several runner-up finishes over the years. You won’t find a more well-rounded or successful athletic program in the state. But hey, Buford does well in football and girls softball in AA.

You might want to check the stats as to which school has more overall state titles — Marist or Buford! Marist has about 780 high school students; Buford has about 850, so if you are a “little ole AA school” then Marist is a “really, really little ole AAAA school”! But yes, your girls basketball team deserves praise as well.

My final comment regarding the Brookwood-Colquitt game. A great victory for the Broncos. The final result was not determined until late in the game. Looking at the pure statisics, Brookwood had their hands full with the Colquitt offense. Colquitt made some mistakes that cost them at least a 21 point swing. Without those mistakes, Colquitt would have won the game..I think the Bronco Nation knows this. But mistakes are part of the game and so, congratulations to the Broncs for their championship victory; to give up over 600 yards of offense and still win says a great deal toward the outcome of the game. Congratulations to a fine Packer football team that took the winner to the wire. You can take great pride in what you accomplished over the season and what you did on the field in the Dome. Great job to both teams. It was without the showcase game this past weekend.

I can’t remember the name of the Colquitt fan that said it best. Our kicker Yang put the ball in the end zone 9 out of 9 times. Colquitt always had to go 80 yards. BW ran back a kickoff. And there was that high snap that put BW on the 4. Add in a Colquitt fumble and 2 interceptions, and there was the game. Yeah, Colquitt lost their fake punt to a penalty, but BW got penalized a gazillion times, it seemed, at the end of the half which got CC their third score. So the refs were neutral, seemed to me.
