As you know, this year’s state playoffs have been nothing short of remarkable, with traditional powerhouses such as North Gwinnett, Camden County, Lowndes, Northside-Warner Robins, Wilcox County being eliminated in the earlier rounds.
What will be this weekend’s biggest upset? You know at least one will happen, maybe more. Will Sandy Creek be able to hold off Peach County? “Will Sandy Creek be able to hold off Peach County”
Granted Peach County is ranked #1 and defending state champs in AAA but if Sandy Creek beats Peach Co is it really a upset? Sandy Creek did win state in AAAA last year and the the game is at Sandy Creek. Both teams are awesome. Peach County has as 28 game win streak while Sandy Creek is on a 27 game win streak. This is the best game going this coming Friday night.

The Peach County, Sandy Creek game is going to be the game of the week in the state for all classifications. This game has been talked about since the pre-season. For those who may not know much about the Trojans, here’s some info: they have made the playoffs and have had a winning season every season since 1990. They have multiple region championships and 3 state championships. They have played in 5 state championship games: ‘92 vs Thomas Co Central, ‘98 vs Dougherty, ‘03 vs LaGrange, ‘05 vs Dougherty, ‘06 vs Shaw, and ‘09 vs Gainesville. They are one of the most successful programs in the state for the past 20 years. Friday’s game will feature two teams riding a 20+ game winning streak. Peach comes in ranked in the top 25 in the nation and #1 in AAA. Sandy Creek is #2 and both are defending champions. It doesn’t get any better than this game. GO TROJANS!!!! BLACK & GOLD will be deep at the “Battlefield” this Friday!!!!

Guys (and gals), please stop yelling at each other! (all caps) My head is hurting!
It is fun to read all the “guarantees” and “facts” about the coming games. Truth is these statements are being made by people unable to affect the outcomes of the games. All of the teams are 3-0 where it counts – in the playoffs. No team got to this point without being able to “whup up on the other guy”, “bring it home”, “trash the other guys’ O/D” or what ever your favorite phrase has been. This year more than others shows that the past is what got you to the playoffs but all bets are off once you get in. Look at the number of #1 seeded teams that are gone. In 5A as an example, you have a #1, and #2 and two #3 seeds competing in the semi finals. I bet no one would have called that back in August!
I hope and pray for good, safe and hard hitting football games this weekend. Safe travels to all!

Bufor Dad:Evidently you and I saw the same game, but that loss is what is propelling to another Dome game like the Lovett loss last season…BTW our three toughest games last year were 1) Fitzgerald, 2) Calhoun, and 3)Jefferson….what they had in common other than all were undefeated at the time we played them, is all three could stay with anybody in the state…..see y’all in the Dome for the last man standing weekend…GA hi school football is good in any part of the state.woof woof

I agree with your comment! I’ve always heard that Buford did whatever was necessary to win, and I saw it first hand this past Friday night. Buford is not that powerful of a team this year. In fact the only way they beat Cook was due to cheating from the players and especially from the officials. During the coin toss, Buford players already started bad-mouthing Cook, when Cook tried to point it out to the officials standing next to them, they did or said nothing! They was the first sign of how dirty the game was going to get. Cook scored its firtst touchdown in the first half. It was called back due to holding. Look at the play on Fox 5 website. The play only lasted 3 seconds. What you didn’t see was that the official already had his hands on that yellow flag before the play even started, and “1″ second later threw the flag. How can you have a holding penalty 1 second after the snap? When Cook’s coaches approched the officials about the constant cheating from the Offensive Line (yes we saw you Center continuously moving the ball during the shift before the snap), the officials spoke “very” ugly with our coaches. Yes Buford you won thanks to the officials, but you didn’t deserve it!

I’d have to say that Sandy Creek should be a slight favorite over Peach County, perhaps 6 points. One, Sandy Creek is playing at home (P. County needs a new coin toss caller). Two, Grady scored 35 points on P. County’s vaunted defense last weekend. Was than an exception or is the P. County defense not as good as advertised? Three, S. Creek has been flawless in the play-offs.
I’m a P. County fan, pulling for them all the way–but you have to give S. Creek a slight edge in your predictions here.

colquitt has bit off more than they can chew-grayson is all about turn over margin.Poeple say oh valdosta n n.gwinnett beat themselves….losers exscuse! grayson presssures you from all points on defense and creates the turnovers -they don’t just happen.This will be tough for both opponents and should be great game. As for Colquitt…an 8-5 team has no business in the playoffs they only got in because of a weak region. Much better teams with better records did not get in. Not fair IMO

Your team got beat. They played a good game but they got beat. There was no cheating or calls by officials that cost Cook the game. We had plenty of questionable calls. The good teams over come them. Every team thinks the calls favored the other team.
Also Buford does not recruit. Do you have to live in Buford to attend? No. Can you pay to attend? Yes. Is it afforable for everyone? Yes. All tuition students pay the same amount as well. I have two kids that attend Buford schools and are not high school age. And like most of the tuition students we moved them there for the education. We like the fact that my kids can go to a school where there are 700 students vs 3,500 students which is what would happen if we stayed at our home school. If I could not pay I would sell my home and move the 5 miles to Buford. My kids (3rd & 5th) already play sports for Buford. Most of our High Schoolers have been playing together since that age as well. They understand from an early age what the expectations are.
But I guess if you cannot beat them then just complain and accuse someone of cheating. Maybe next year. But then again I have seen our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders as well as freshman teams and I like the pipeline.

RAP — Does the athletic department at Buford provide any tuition assistance or pay for some students to attend? I’m guessing if so it is allowed by the rules, so I’m not accusing anyone of cheating. I just wonder how that part works.

If Colquitt County beat Grayson this week, they will win the Class AAAAA State Championship. No doubt about it. In my opinion, Grayson is the dominating North Georgia Team. Brookwood is very sneaky and unpredictable but I don’t think they will beat Collins Hill this year. Yep, I am giving it all to Colquitt County. South Georgia Dominates again. Region 1-AAAAA takes it all this year.

Sandy Creek got no respect last year in the playoffs yet they beat Tucker, Thomas County Central, State #1 ranked Griffin and Clark Central. They are 38-2 over the last three years. This week they are going to beat Peach County 41-7. Our offensive style is much the same as Grady’s but we have the best wide receiver in the State in Alex Chisum. Misdirection plays don’t work against our defense. Monroe Area had to find out the hard way netting only 43 total yards last week.

Jefferson – No they do not. Tuition is less than a couple of grand and reduces for multiple students. So it is very affordable. I know Decatur City schools are set up the same way. Was a good article in the AJC about it last year.

@ SportsFan31313 – I do not doubt that Statesboro is a very good team, but how are their past records relevent to this year?
Unless you are saying that this year is similar to previous years when they lost some regular season games, but were able make deep playoff runs. Otherwise, I don’t see the relevance.
Statesboro must be playing well to be in this game, so anything is possible. It’s going to take a lot to match the Hooch offense!

Do your homework or lay off the “family recipe”. Starr’s Mill has not squeeked by anybody. Their average score this year is 34-9. They beat their first round opponent by 33, second round by 8, and spanked their third round opponent 28 to ZIIIIPPPP after everyone preached on here how East Paulding was gonna take ‘em to the woodshed. Like Iron Mike used to say “everyone has a plan until they hit in the mouth.” The only think squeaking is your keyboard from typing too much garbage.

I agree with you but I am telling you that this Statesboro Blue Devil Football team is no joke, and had better be taken seriously. They will win this Friday.
The regular season game is no push over either as they come from a very tough region. Region 2-AAAA is no Region 3-AAAAA by a long shot. Remember Region 2-AAAA swept every team in the first round.

2003-2009 is in the past and the only thing that will get you is dust on the trophy. This is 2010 and so far this year in the play-offs, Gwinnett is 3-1 against South Georgia and at least one Gwinnett team WILL be at the Dome!
I realize things can happen but I think Gwinnett has earned some respect this year. And by the way, if the number is your name is your zip code, I don’t think there is anyone from your area of the state still playing in 5A.

colquitt is a better team than their 8-5 record. yea, they play tough. but their offense will not do ANYTHING against a very good grayson defense. the nkemdiche brothers are outstanding and watch out for michael peek and jesse hogan also. i didn’t think grayson would be this good this year, but they’ve defeated very good teams so far on the road. now they finally get a home game and trust me, their fans get loud. i expect grayson to advance & play either brookwood or collins hill. i’m pretty sure grayson wants brookwood in the dome since brookwood PRANKED & VANDALIZED grayson high school & defeated them the next day. it’ll be a revenge game against an immature brookwood broncos team.

1) Collins Hill put up over 450 yds of offense & had 3 turnovers-one which was a pick 6 for Lowndes.
2) Brookwood was real LUCKY to beat Hillgrove last Friday night with their SEVEN turnovers.
3) Collins Hill answered every time Lowndes scored.
4) You are jealous because Brookwood got DUSTED in the Concrete Palace their only trip, whereas Collins Hill is the ONLY team in the STATE to BEAT Lowndes TWICE in THEIR stadium.
5) Keep thinking you’re going to have an all Region 7-AAAAA Championship game, because you better hope Brookwood gets by Collins Hill & Grayson gets by Colquitt County. I just love reading these posts about how Sandy Creek is going to destroy Peach County. If you are judging us on how Grady played us, that is fine. Grady was a very good matchup for us. Plus they were fired up to play us!! I could easily judge Sandy Creek by how they let stockbridge score 26 or 28 points on them. And the way Fayette gave them a ball game. But if I did go there, does it really matter this FRIDAY NIGHT WHEN SANDY AND PEACH HOOKUP? If you know football, you would know that it’s a game of matchups. They were a very good matchup for us. But guess what? WE ARE STILL HERE! I THINK THAT GAME DID US ALOT OF GOOD. WE MAY HAVE BEEN LOOKING PAST THEM AT FIRST. BUT I’M SURE WE ARE FOCUSED NOW. hcfollower, It’s not Calhouns offense you have to worry about. I see Crowell having 200 yards in the field, just not across the goal line. Bend don’t break… look at there points against this year on 1st string guys. I think it stands at 8 per game now. Scoring is 42 points per game.

@28inAROWLET’SGO…hey hey hey, watch that Stockbridge comment, we had 5 starters out against you all. one of which was our top Rb. not saying the outcome would have been diff, just sayin. We didnt play with the same fire as we did the previous week against SC. after our all everything RB got hurt that wed at prac. SC game showed what The Bridge was capable of all year. Couple bounces our way and we are a two seed and maybe still playing!
Now like i said before. SC is bigger than you all and will power the ball like grady did, in addition they have a better passing game than grady and they will exploit your secondary. Now Richmond is a freaking beast. he is gonna give SC fits all night, but I think in the end they(SC)will win a high scoring game! The key for PC is if the Qb and Demarco can get on track. Grady shut down your passing game and deep threat! I’ll be there…good luck to both.

Ok, I am not from South Georgia, but I have to replay in their defense with the message from JENN up at the top of this forum. Jenn: You said, that an 8-5 team like Colquitt County has no business being in the playoffs. Are you kidding me?? How can you say a comment like that. To me when I see a team in the semi-finals that has lost 5 games, it tells me, that team means business. It shows that they are a team that has grown and improved. And I have kept up with Colquitt County and they are the real deal. I said at the start of the season when they lost the first 3 games and everyone was writing them off, I said, “Mark my words, they will still be a contender for a state championship” and now here they are for the second year in a row in the semi-finals, the only South Georgia team left from AAAAA. As for your other comment, you must not know much about football if you think Colquitt County had a “weak” schedule as you mentioned. Colquitt County had one of, if not the hardest schedule in the entire state of Georgia. In fact most polls, State and National, ranked Colquitt County as having the #1 hardest schedule in the state of Georgia. It included the current #1 team in the country South Panola which Colquitt put up about 35 points against. Teams don’t put that many points up against South Panola, but Colquitt did.
Colquitt could do like a lot of teams and play easy teams and then have a nice record going in the the playoffs, but Colquitt plays hard teams, which they may lose but in the end they win because they are gaining experience. Like I said I am from North Georgia and will hope North Georgia teams win, but if you discount Colquitt as a quality football team that is fully capable of wining the whole thing, you are walking a dangerous road.

I was just reading some of these and something pops out at me. People saying that 1-AAAAA is a weak region. Really??? I think it comes down to a simple philosophy in here. If you are from North Georgia/Atlanta area you believe that South Georgia football is overrated and perhaps it is. If you are from South Georgia you look at North Georgia Football like most SEC fans look at the PAC10. For example, Stanford is a great team but they could never beat UGA. Truth of the matter is let the boys play on Friday night. Colquitt County maybe the only southern Georgia team left. One commenter actually said they didn’t deserve to be in at 5-5. Again, if they didn’t deserve to make the playoffs then they certainly wouldn’t have advanced all the way to the semifinals for a 2nd straight year. I looked at their schedule which may have been the most brutal I have ever seen. They were only out of one game and that was against #1 in the Nation South Panola, Mississippi (which I’ve seen those boys play and I have never seen a better high school team). They lost in overtime to Thomas Co Central on the road on the last play. They got behind early to Lowndes and Valdosta and made great combacks that fell short and their only other lost was to Cook, which Colquitt dominated besides penalties and turnovers in the Red Zone, opening weekend. Plus, Rush Probst is 6-1 in playoff games since arriving in Moultrie and we all know what he did at Hoover in Alabama. So, for you all that don’t think a Colquitt Co. 5-5 team doesn’t deserve to make the playoffs, you maybe in for a shock if they win it all. That’s my prediction anyway!

It is very heated right now and the BOE knows about the displeasure and the changes that are being requested. This a very heated political thing. I miss the great days of the Statesboro Blue Devils and the Bradwell Institute Tigers playing against each other. But you do have Liberty County Panthers you all play against. Region 2-AAAA is a tough region to play in. As you know, any team in that Region could be beaten on any given Friday Night. It will be pay back next year when the two of you meet.

Colquitt county played the best defense last week that it had all year. Millcreek still was inside the 25 five times in the first half. Millcreek beat themselves and should have scored 20 in that half. Colquitt does have a better offense than Brookwood remember 7-3 .Grayson should win yes, but they need to find an offense,Colquitt can score. New defensive coordinator makes a difference. Go Rams, Millcreek backer, also a realist.

hcfollower, Christian has 150-200 yards in the first half. Seldom have the starters played past early 3rd quarter. If Lamb wanted to pad players #’s he would let them play whole games or at least into the early 4th. All of the stats and points you see from Calhoun is half games only. Darick broke the recieving record last year doing the same thing.
I have watched some of the defense’ Carver has played against and if those boys were at Calhoun they’d be 3rd string. Region 5AA is the next to the weakest region in AA next to Region 8.
What’s funny, if you cruise these blogs, you’ll find I had these same conversations with those mighty 1AA Hurricanes last week. Good luck to both teams. I hope all of these boys come through healty and get to play strong for our Ga Bulldogs next year.

there will be NO SCHOOL FRIDAY FOR THEM BURKE COUNTY BEARS., it seems that the ENTIRE COUNTY is coming…, hhhmmm … all 8 smaller cities will be in carrollton friday nite…, what an amazing scene for high school football….they are leaving at 12 i think thats a 4-hour ride maybe 5 , well we are use to traveling long distances , with all the higher ranked teams we play over here, we are excited ,with this young team making it this far…, with all starters mostly jr’s and only 5-starting seniors, ,all our skilled players from qb’s/rb’s/wr’s/ will be back with the entire offensive line , and all our lb’s, but guess what they are saying- WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOOSE, but if when we beat Carrollton , their entire town will be in shock……they have everything to loose, expect over 5000 people friday from the county….see u at carrollton friday nite

@GT VET, I agree Calhoun is better this year on both sides of the Ball. Especially without Rogers & Nance! The defense is one of the Hardest Hitting I have ever seen in high school. The offense is so well balanced this year unlike last year. If we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot we should win it all this year…..To be the Best you have to BEAT the BEST!!!

@ BURKE CO.NO. 1 FAN. Congratulation to your team for making it to Semi-Final game. Looking at your school’s football history, it’s easy to see why you are so excited to be where you are at. It’s been a while since we have been this far also, so we are really excited also. I did not attend school at Carrollton, but I have been a hugh fan for several years now and as much as I want them to win, I’m not going down the road you and my fellow Trojan fans are taking, I won’t predict a winner. Both teams are where they are at for a reason, they are good. The team that should win “on paper” does not always come out the winner, just asked Cairo, St. Pius, Gainsville, etc. There is a reason you still play the game. Carver Columbus gets beaten by Calhoun this weekend – badly. Calhoun is too good fundamentally sound for Crowell to run for big yards. Gaps will be filled, sweeps will be read. If Carver Columbus fails to score on a couple of drives in the first half, the game will quickly get out of hand in Calhoun’s favor.
Calhoun will continue to the dome with an easy victory.

Seriously folks? Clinch County is the team to beat in Class A. Wesleyan beat Wilcox and now yall pick Wesleyan to win it all? Clinch thrashed Wilcox in week 3, and held them to 14 points. Clinch murked Charlton County the last game of the season, held them to 7 points, and under 100 yards of total offense. @Burke County Bears True Fan: I have been watching High School Football for 40 years and I have never seen an official walk a team into the endzone and I don’t think you have either. I know and have seen an official’s call have an effect on the outcome of a game. Some of those were bad calls and some were right on, but they came at a time that had an effect on the outcome of the game. A no call by an official can have the same effect. I hope that the officials have no effect on the game but lets face the fact that they are a part of the game. Most of the time good teams overcome bad calls. Also, do you read what you are posting before you submit? If not you need to start.

@Burke County #1 Fan: A very good game by your Bears! 49 – 15 is a really close battle! Your faster than fast QB’s had about 100 yards total and most of those were while they ran for their life. Gator Green looked like he should have lined up with our 7th grade team and your kickers obviously haven’t won the Punt, Pass and Kick very often! Actually, your fans represented themselves well and your team played very hard. They deserve better than you as their #1 Fan. Go Trojans! To the Dome!

HC follower, I was there. Calhouns D dominated. There offense hit on all cylinders and controled clock and drove the ball. Passing game looked good. Score would have been higher Christian scores long on a pass that gets called back for ineligable rec (wr lined up wrong).

Crowell was under his average only had 95yards on the night while Dustin Christian ran for 110yards. (Good job O-Line they just dont get much credit as much as they need to) Landon Curtis threw for 189 yards and 2 td’s(19-23). And how about Jt taking the interception outa the db’s hand to score a touchdown for us. We have four great receivers out there for us with great hands.. Our defense was great had great stops when we needed them also had great fan support. Honestly, with the defensive we have(which are made of 6 juniors and 5 seniors) and the such hunger we have for a state championship we WILL win it this year so Buford for the 3rd year in a row we meet again but the result will NOT be the same…”3rd time’s a charm” So Buford get ready for the most hard hitting defense in Georgia that i have ever seen get use to names “Alex Kirby,Hunter Knight,Gus Roberts,Caden Paker, Chance Beaver, Gabe Freeman, Jacob Young, Darius Washington, Jt Palmer, Heath Everett, and Reed Allen” Because they will be all over yall..I hope no one gets hurt and i wish luck to both of the teams but more luck to the jackets.
