On to the semifinals in the state playoffs …
Two questions per classification today – Who is you pick (team) to win it, and who is your player of the year in each class?
Mine:
AAAAA –
Team: Grayson. Just liking the defense. Grayson has led 31-0, 23-0 and 20-0 entering the fourth quarters of their three playoff victories, and the Nkemdiche brothers are wreaking havoc. But can they score enough points?
Player: Collins Hill QB Taylor Heinicke is 284-of-431 for 3,906 yards and 43 touchdowns. Hard to beat that.
AAAA –
Team: Tucker. The most talent and a coaching staff that’s won before.
Player: Chattahoochee QB Timmy Byerly has accounted for 3,595 yards and 48 touchdowns rushing and passing. Note that you can pick a player whose team is done, such as Brian Randolph of Kell.
AAA—
Team: Sandy Creek. The Sandy Creek-Peach County game this week is as good a matchup as this season has given us.
Player: Peach County RB Travis Richmond went for over 250 last week vs. Grady and has right at 1,800 yards rushing and 26 touchdowns.
AA—
Team: Carver, although I think Buford is playing pretty dang good right now.
Player: Carver RB Isaiah Crowell has been injured much of the season, but he ran for 300 yards and five TDs last week vs. Thomasville.
A—
Team: Wesleyan. Or Clinch. But I’ll say Wesleyan.
Player: Wilcox County QB Nick Marshall threw for over 2,700 yards and 41 TDs and rushed for right at 650 yards.

Gerry, I though last year’s final was pretty level. If Calhoun had not turned it over 3 TIMES, it might not have been 13-10. Calhoun is at least as good a team if not better than last year’s team. They might not win it all, but they should be in the game and have a chance.

Grayson is too tough at home. Defense is off the chain with the speed of the DL and flexable LB will make a QB nervous all night. the Grayson secondary is also no joke. I would guess leading in INT and PBU’s.
I counted 4 PBU’s and 3 INT against Valdosta alone.
Grayson has 19 INT’s and 21 PBU’s on the year. and I challenge anyone to prove other wise. GRAYSON is #1 in the state!

Daisy-chainin’ ain’t an exact science. For example, Griffin beat Dutchtown, Dutchtown beat Glynn Academy, Glynn Academy beat Liberty County, Liberty County beat Statesboro, and Statesboro beat Griffin.
See what I mean?
If Clinch and Wesleyan play, I think it will be a tough, fun game. But Wilkinson and Savannah Christian may have something to say about that.

Say it ain’t so…AJC has picked against the Peach County Trojans. Well, I agree the matchup has the potential of being the best game all year. But after coming back down 14 points in the fourth to win by 7 against Grady, I don’t see anyone stopping the Trojans now. And having to win 3 straight games in Metro Atlanta to gain the championship, no excuses will be accepted from the losers. Go Trojans!

I think you have it right for AAAA — Tucker to win it all and Byerly as player of the year. I have not seen Randolph play live, but hear he had a great year as well — he played at a high level both ways, so hard not to pick him, but Byerly had a monster year and his team would have been lost without him.

”How can you not pick Clinch? Clinch beat ELCA, ELCA beat Wesleyan. Buy a clue.”
I don’t feel strongly either way w/ Clinch and Wesleyan. Two great Class A teams. But in the ELCA game, Wesleyan’s best defensive player, an all-state LB named Merritt Hall, was knocked out of the game, and that makes a big difference with a Class A team. He’s back now, and I think that could make the difference. Plus, the ELCA-Clinch and the ELCA-Wesleyan games were both tight. I wouldn’t draw many conclusions from that.
“AGAIN NO RESPECT FOR SAVANNAH CHRISTIAN. DO THEY HAVE TO BEAT EVERYONE IN THE STATE (AFTER BEATING CHARLTON AND LINCOLN CO.”
I don’t think not picking Savannah Christian to win state is a lack of respect. I imagine that 90 percent of fans are picking Wesleyan or Clinch while still respecting Savannah Christian. Also, Charlton County and Lincoln County didn’t win their regions. Great programs, but those two were merely good this year, not great.

At this point, all of the AA teams left with the exception of Lovett has a good chance at going all the way. Carver has the edge on ability vs Calhoun, but I think Calhoun will be better coached and will execute on all phases of the game better than CC. Unless Carver just blows it open early Calhoun should win. If Calhoun gets 3 scores behind, they will probably lose.

Hey ‘GHSF Daily’ – Just assure me that ALL semifinal games will get adequate coverage in the AJC unlike the coverage of the quarterfinals this past weekend. Absolutely NO AJC coverage of two undeafeated teams going head-to-head in an epic Class A #1 vs. #2 battle. Of course I’m speaking of the ELCA-Clinch County game. I’ll throw my vote in for Clinch County to go all the way in Class A since they are ranked #1 in the state. However, I’ll throw ‘Raider Fan’ a bone and hope for a Clinch County-Savannah Christian championship in the dome. I’m with you on Player of the Year in Class A – has got to go to Nick Marshall hands down.

I bought a clue and the clue says Clinch is a lucky fluke who will have the weekend off after this weekend. BTW, a fluke is another name for a type of leech, in other words they suck. But enough about that.
It looks also like Calhoun has high hopes but they’ve forgotten, Crowell doesn’t run around the field by himself. The support offered by his offensive line and an experienced qb will send the Calhoun boys off to lick their wounds.

One thing is certain – anyone picking Statesboro hasn’t seen Chattahoochee play.
The Marist game was the test Chattahoochee needed to perservere in a close game. Statesboro will not hold them under 30 points, and on paper they seem to be weaker than the Marist/Dutchtown teams that Hooch defeated in the playoffs.
Granted Statesboro is making a nice run – especially with the win over Kell, but the Hooch has so many offensive weapons and scoring balance that it will take a dominant team to beat them, and based on Statesboro’s average margin of victory, I don’t see them as dominant.

If you want to say the best athlete, one most likely to go pro, one most…. – Hands Down Nick Marshall
If you want to say the one who lead his team to VICTORY – Right Here, Right Now – Hands Down Kyle Karempelis.
Head to Head – Kyle ran roughshod all over Wilcox (~300 yds) before the coach put the leash on him. It would have been interesting (but in very poor taste/sportmanship) to let Kyle loose the entire game (~+400 yds, 6 TDs?). The game was over with about 6 min left in regulation.

Grayson’s D is impressive, but their offense is nothing like last years. Of course, having a new QB & no Ean Pemberton probably has something to do with it. It’s evident their defense is better than last years & that’s saying quite a bit with four D-1 players on last years team. Colquitt County will not be intimidated Friday night-they have done rather well as road warriors in the playoffs the last 2 years. Despite their record, it is evident that they are a top 5 team as they were projected in the preseason.
Collins Hill is bringing back shades of 2001. In 2001, they won @ Lowndes & also won @ Brookwood. This year, they won @ Lowndes & will play @ Brookwood Friday night. Not saying that it will happen, but…
I know, Brookwood was not a playoff team that year, but the similarities…
State Champs: Collins Hill, Chattahoochee, Sandy Creek, Univ of Buford, Clinch.
Collins Hill-personal reasons, Chattahoochee & Sandy Creek-dropping down in classification gives you an advantage-however, it didn’t help NSWR, Buford-until they are beaten in the playoffs, they hold the belt, Clinch-a gut feeling.

I think Grayson will beat CC, and I believe that Collins Hill will defeat Brookwood. Frayson will take it all. But any of these 4 teams could win. They are all excellent teams.
Now the reason I believe that Grayson will beat CC, is because CC “thinks” they will score points anyhow no matter how tough the Grayson D. They also believe they have to stop the Grayson run. NO, they need to stop the big pass plays by Grayson that lead to scores. Stopping the run only gives them the ball back. I think CC does not realize what is about to happen to their offense. They will fumble the ball, they will throw interceptions. And there is nothing CC can do about it.
Having seen both Grayson and CH this year, I think a similar thing will happen to CH. Heinicke will not have any time to pass. He will throw rare interceptions trying to beat the blitz and the rush. Ultimately, CH is not going to score more than.
Now, there are a bunch of good running backs, and some excellent QB’s. Heinicke is certainly one of the best ever in GA. But there are others who are close, and he is probably not better than Lassiter’s “Mason” last year. The single reason that Grayson will beat these teams is Robert Nkemdiche. He is the best defensive player I have seen since Cameron Hayward, and I believe he is better than Cameron. Nkemdiche is a very special player who comes along only once in a generation. He will have more influence on the outcome of the game than Heinicke (if they play each other).
5A – Grayson, Robert Nkemdiche
4A – Some really good team
3A – Another really good team
2A – Buford (and we will all have to live with their insufferable bragging and recruiting for another year)
1A – Wesleyan

Hmmm. I am rooting for the Collins Hill Eagles, to clear up any confusion about that (like anyone cares what I think). But I just think Grayson is too much for any team to handle this season.
This is the Buford team that actually won several GFL championships for the first time ever in Buford’s history. This year, Buford is actually loaded with their own talent, and the coaching staff knows how to use that talent.
Good luck to all the teams in their remaining playoff games. There will be some very fun games to watch, and I feel for all the teams that play well but fall a little short of the big prize. Hold your heads high – you have all played outstanding Georgia football.

Southgarule: You write, dropping down in classication didn’t help NSWR. Well, nor did it help Kell, East Paulding, etc. The point is, if you don’t win the state championship the next year after dropping down—it didn’t help you! You can’t go by how far you went the previous year in a higher classification because those seniors and you made had to really re-build.
With Hooch, Carver, and Sandy Sprngs let’s see.

@ BURKE CO. NO.1 FAN, you stated that Burke Co. would bring world class speed! Our fullback (Broderick Snoddy) is one of the fastest in Georgia. Burke Co. had better have a good offense because Cairo was only able to run 8 plays in the first HALF against Carrollton. Also remember the name Tevin McCoy, your QB and backs will get to know him pretty well.

What @Suwanee 0wnz said!
He speaks from experience.
I’ve said all year that Grayson has a much better balanced offense than I have ever seen. As opposed to previous years where G never passed in a game, passing has won several games this year. But you cannot ignore the run to cover the pass.
Player – Robert Nkemdiche. You have to see this boy play to understand him. While his senior brother Denzel is no slouch, it is hard to believe Robert is a sophomore. I sometimes wonder if they compete against each other to see who can do the best.

Hooch is definitely not overlooking Statesboro!
Just curious – what’s the story re: the Liberty County game? The entire Offense suspended for the game? Just looks odd. Anyone know??
Hooch has a lot of offensive weapons – Byerly can make a lot of things happen – Solid OL, WRs & RBs!! I’ll believe it if I see it that Hooch offense can be shut down!
Hooch defense has been solid, but as I’ve said before, it’s a whole lot easier playing defense when you’re up big! Marist game was an eye-opener – Gotta be ready to play!!
I don’t see a blowout, but I do see Hooch winning!! GO HOOCH!!

Very difficult to beat the same team twice in the same year. Brookwood defeated Dacula twice in 2005 on the way to the finals when Lowndes dissected them. Brookwood was defeated by Parkwood twice on the way to the finals in 2002 – actually, they lost in the finals to Parkview. To win the State, Brookwood will have to defeat CH a second time, and very well may have to defeat Grayson a 2nd time. That’s a tall order.
On a 2nd matter, BKSMITH14 claimed last week that Lowndes “owns Brookwood.” For the record, they’ve played twice with each team winning once, Brookwood in the semis (1996) and Lowndes in the finals (2005). If I had a mouth like BKSMITH14, I would be crowing about Brookwood’s 8-1 domination over Collins Hill. You know what? I don’t believe games in past years mean a damn thing regarding this year. I think Brookwood’s victory over CH earlier in the year actually gives CH more motivation to win this next game. And the two teams scored as many points this year as it took past year teams three years to do.
Third, if one wanted to talk domination, Brookwood did NOT have to play North Gwinnett this year. NG has defeated Brookwood the last six times. When I was looking at the brackets, I saw that if the favorites won, Brookwood was going to have to play Camden, then Lowndes, then North Gwinnett. Winning those three I thought was about as likely as me seeing a pig fly. Seems that the road to the State can sometimes be a team that is the most fortunate, not necessarily the best, and that may apply this year as well as others.

One more thing. There’s sometimes a flaw of a team that leads to their demise. The year Roswell tied for the State championship they beat Brookwood earlier 10-9 because Brookwood couldn’t make an extra point in the 4th quarter and missed something like three field goals before. This year? They cannot catch a punt. If I was Mark Crews, I would instruct his players to run away from a punted ball. Two games this year they’ve muffed punts twice and lost them every time. The one game they lost to Dacula, a muffed punt gave Dacula a TD. It would be insanity to let any Brookwood player to try to catch a punt against Collins Hill.

@reggae man, unlike past years where Grayson had a “go to” back with a backup player, this year they have 7 or 8 good running backs. This has meant that no one running back has amassed large numbers as they all shuttle in and out on almost every play depending on what is needed. Heck, even Robert Nkemdiche, a defensive lineman has carried the ball some and scored.
You don’t have to score a lot, only enough and that is something Grayson excels at.
I think it will be a good hard hitting game!

It seems like alot of people dont know Class A football. Clinch County beat Wilcox in week 3,
33-14, shut Wilcox out in the second half and held Wilcox to negative 9 rushing for the game. Clinch county slew North Georgia’s Giant (ELCA) last week 34-27 in the quarterfinals, and i can say, ELCA was the most competition Clinch County has had this year. I can’t remember the last time Clinch starters played the entire game. I almost forgot, Clinch blew out Charlton the last game of the season 33-7 and held Charlton to 41 passing yards and 53 rushing (Chris Milton had a 45 yard touchdown run) for the game for you Savannah Christian fans who thank SCR beat somebody in Charlton. Clinch County’s quarterback Trey Dorsey has over 1100 passing yards with 12 TDs and over 1300 yards rushing with 23 TDs, Senior RB Anthony McNeil has over 1300 rushing yards with 22 TDs. Really, there’s not a team left in Class A that stand a chance against Clinch…lmao

I’m a ‘00 Calhoun alum, and I used to follow the team very close…until I came to the realization that Calhoun is the Boise State of AA. We play in one of the weakest regions in AA, evidenced by the fact that it’s been a decade since we lost a region game. We never win the big one, Charlton was close (we should’ve won), but Buford wasn’t. I doubt we’ll get to the big one this year, but I hope I’m wrong.

Calhounfakefan,
You obviously don’t follow closely now. The difference between Boise and Calhoun is we have a play off system to shut everyone like you up. Calhoun hasn’t won the show yet but beat a lot of good teams, Buford was best, Calhoun 2nd best. How is that Boiseish? Carver Columbus plays in region 5AA, the second weakest region in the state. Coosa, who is 7AA that didn’t even make the play offs this year beat the #2 in 5AA.
Oh and 3 points was the deficit at the Dome last year. That’s not close? Buford was the better team that day. Calhoun was 2nd best in all regions of AA. Weak???

You’re right, I don’t follow closely anymore. I take you at your word on the stats. I have no ill will for my alma mater; in fact, I hope we win it all. BUT…history isn’t on our side. Boise has won 2 BCS games, one over Oklahoma. They beat VT this year. Likewise, Calhoun has won a few games against elite teams. Both play WEAK regular seasons, and always have great records, but never win it all. Maybe the Braves would be a better comparison during their 14 straight D titles…1/14, we’re 0/10.

No harm, just we have so many haters locally and most don’t even know anything about the program. All the way down to the rec leagues Calhoun city dominates, running the same containment defense and some spread option offense that the boys of Friday night do. Playing at a middle school that has lost very few games in years.
Calhoun is supposed to lose Friday night, if they do, I am still a fan. That being said, I believe this D can play with anyone in the state, so this should be a battle of atheletes vs well disciplined teamers.

Wing-T under King, having rushed for 3,550 yards on the year with 56 rushing touchdowns. The passing attack is averaging right at 100 yards per game. Barge and junior quarterback Dallas Dickey have combined to go 63-for-105 through the air for 1,243 yards with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Carrollton is also averaging 44.5 points per game this year

If he doesn’t practice then it’s more likely he will not play. High ankle sprains are difficult to play with in the secondary trying to come out of back pedals and making breaks on the ball. His back up is a remarkable athlete as well that will probably sign D1. So instead of putting an 80% healthy player on the field you have a very capable 100% in his place. It would be more important to have him next week at 95% in the Dome because we will more than likely face Chattahoochee in the Finals, and they run the spread very well.

Given that I have only seen AAAA games this year with Hooch I can only give my input as to who I think the best player and team is…
Obviously I am going to say that it is Chattahoochee and Timmy Byerly. He has been compared to Tebow with his size and running ability. Am I saying that he is Tebow, not at all (especially given the fact that Byerly is just a high school senior). However he is a 4-star general for this Hooch team and has alot of football left in his future. GREAT KID ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE!!
I know that we have our hands full with Statesboro this weekend and given that they are in the state semi-finals and they have state titles in the 2000s (2001 and 2005). However, with the explosion of our offense and that we have a key defensive player back on the field I think our chances of spending a December evening indoors at the Dome look very good.
@HoochFan I think that you and I should figure out who each other is at this next game in Statesboro. I am willing to bet we will be shocked to see who each other is.
The trip to Statesboro is one I am actually looking forward to and the drive back will be even sweeter with a Hooch win.

@SouthGARules, just take it for what it is worth. Lots of folks show up at the end of the season to crow about/against their teams/perceived enemies. It goes both North v. South and South v. North. I and others value the opinions of those who are here week in and week out giving plausible arguments even if I don’t agree with them. It speaks to the depth of GA football when so many have such heartfelt reactions.

Cautiously optomistic about Grayson winning it all based on the great defense. Fred has said it all about offense. About 8 backs at Grayson with a quick strike pass attack is good enough. Grayson plays true team football with quite a few great players that go under the radar. Numbers 57, 74, 4, 75, 18 and their special teams kicker and punter. Ball control and defense with pinning teams back on special teams is the key. Robert Nkemdiche, I can not say enough about the impact this Sophmore is making. If Grayson loses it will be because they could not score enough to beat what little points the defense gives up or makes. How many points a game Grayson averages on defense a game, anyone know? The team I would least like to see play Grayson in the dome is Collins Hill because of Taylor Heinicke who can take a game over. Do not think Brookwood can win two games in one season against Grayson.

The acj have not been taking my post lately, guess something is wrong with my server… but anyways here is my third attempt to tell you how I feel about Starr’s Mill.
On defense they run the “3-5-3” and play very similar to Ware Co. <<<< Epic fail #1 ;_-)
They often over pursue which is good for our counter-action and cut back lanes.
On offense they run the “spread”. The QB doesn’t seem to read the defense; most of his passes are predetermined before the snap. <<<< Epic fail #2
Their running back is good, but we should have no problem containing him.

@ what the CARROLTON COACHES are saying on times-georgian.com
Rayvan Teague was already set on using a dual quarterback system entering the 2010 season.
With the luxury of having senior A.J. Barge returning for his third year starting under center and junior Dallas Dickey — who many teams across the state would love to have as their starter — also back after seeing plenty of action in his first two seasons with the Trojans, it was no secret that the Carrollton High School football coach planned on using a two-man system.
Burke County coach Eric Parker, on the other hand, never envisioned he’d be guiding his Bears to the Class AAA state semifinals with a platoon-style attack under center.
Parker, who admits he had actually been opposed to using more than one quarterback in the past, somewhat stumbled upon the idea during the Bears’ early-season contests against Josey and Lowndes County.
With junior Corey Mayton opening the season as a first-year starter in replace of former Burke County standout Terrell Brigham, who took his 3,100 yards of total offense and 34 touchdowns from a season ago to South Alabama, Parker inserted freshman Donquell Green into the game at times to get some work, which proved to be an eye-opening experience for the Burke County coach.
“You know, we started out using the youngster just kind of to get him some game experience. That’s just something where we’ve been going with our backup quarterback quite a bit. But we found out that he was kind of a weapon for us,” Parker said.
Green showcased his game-changing speed to where Parker felt he had to get him on the field, even if he was just a freshman. And while Mayton is the clear-cut starter, Green is now a solid dual threat, similar to how Trojan offensive coordinator Joey King utilizes Barge and Dickey’s talents.
“Both of them can play. They both do a great job with the offense,” King said. “[Green] is a little more explosive than [Mayton], but [Mayton] is very explosive and very dangerous.”
Mayton, who stands at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, has completed 84-of-145 pass attempts for 1,258 yards, with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions, while rushing for 884 yards. Green, meanwhile, is 15-for-21 passing for 124 yards, but has rushed for 821 yards on 87 attempts, a 9.4 yard-per-carry average.
“I mean, I think both of them are dangerous. The guy that is really the quarterback the majority of the time, [Mayton], he’s big and tall. A good-looking kid. He runs a 4.6 [40]. He has a really good arm. But he runs physical and has good vision,” Teague said. “Then the freshman [Green], the small guy, is just cat-quick. I mean, from all I’ve gathered, he’s a 4.3 40 guy. You don’t really see a lot of 4.3 40 people. He just is extremely quick. He’s just a play-maker. Whenever he gets his hands on the ball, whether it be a receiver, running back or quarterback, he’s got the capability of going the distance.”
Barge said the Bears’ quarterbacks are somewhat reminiscent of Dickey and himself in that Mayton is used more as a thrower and Green as a running threat.
“They have a tall guy that kind of can throw it a lot and can run it a little bit that reminds me of myself. Then they’ve got that little fast, speedy guy with good feet like Dickey,” said Barge, who has completed 49-of-75 pass attempts for 965 yards, with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions on the season.
Dickey, who has thrown for 278 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 273 yards and nine touchdowns, noted that he and Barge have played to their strengths when under center this year.
“It just helps us give it more of a mix-up,” Dickey said. “Me and A.J., we both work very hard. He’s a great guy. We just try to do our best and help the team to a victory.”
King has been pleased with how the Trojans’ dual system has flourished this season.
“You know, we still consider A.J. the starter. It’s been his show for three years. We’re using what Dallas brings to the table. That’s definitely benefitted the offense. You just add it to your arsenal,” King said.
What has impressed Teague the most is how each player has handled the situation and put the team first.
“I’m proud of A.J. for being mature enough to handle it as a senior. I’m proud of Dallas for being able to be mature enough as a junior to be able to say, this is A.J.’s role and then I’m filling in and doing my part, too,” Teague said. “Two mature young men. Two quality young men. Two guys that have a lot of talent and a lot of ability. And two guys that have done a lot of really good things for the Trojans this year.”

*If anybody thinks Chris Sanders wont play than think that. If he doesnt play than you will see alot of Eric Rivers this week but it looks like Chris Sanders will be playing.
*From what i have seen from Starrs Mill Eric Rivers would still do just fine. Starrs Mill quarterback knows where he will throw the ball before the play begins and the Tucker defense will stop that. Chris Sanders is just 1 of the 11 players on this great Tucker defense.
*For those who do not no who Eric Rivers is let me let yall in. He is 6-1 185 and runs a 4.6 in the 40. He is very physical but gets fooled on plays he should make. He would be starting for almost any other team in GA its just the fact that he is behind one of the best safetys in the country. He was orginally starting but he has been in trouble and lost his starting role. If Chris Sanders the 4star safety that is playing for the University of Georgia next year does not play trust me Eric Rivers would di just fine he is a good safety ask the university of Tennessee how he did at there camp.

@TJ, I don’t know if this is your questions but Grayson has averaged slightly under 11 points allowed per game from the start of the season through the quarterfinals. If you look only at the playoffs, that number goes to 6.3 points allowed. Just for grins, if you take away the last touchdown scored by North Gwinnett with no time on the clock and the Grayson defenders backing away so as not to get into anything with the understandably upset NG team, the number drops to 4.3. I don’t remember what North Forsyth was averaging but NG and Valdosta were both averaging in the mid to high 30’s on points scored when we played them. We held NG to 19 and shut out the Wildcats.
If you are asking how many points does the defense score off of pick 6’s or fumble recoveries run back or touchbacks, I don’t know. Against the Cats, we had a pick 6 and a touchback and several short field situations due to fumbles or picks. Against NG, we had several fumble recoveries and picks that set up scores. Against NF, I just don’t remember because that was 8 quarters of some of the most exciting football I’ve seen ago and that game has turned into a blur.

@ Burke Co. No. 1 Fan: What’s your point? Is it that out Coach acknowledges your team has some talent? I hope the Carrollton Coaches are drilling into the players that this will not be a cake walk but they can win if they play like they have the past two weeks. Maybe you coach will let you talk to your team so you can tell them how easy the game will be. We won’t have a problem with that.

@Bill, Check some these blogs for full directions. The have been posted a couple of times. The answer to your questions is yes!
It really is a toss up. You will for the most part be going against traffic going 75-675-285 to US78. Once you get to US78 you will be in traffic heading east. Coming through the countryside on the back roads, you will be up against local traffic and school buses unloading. Either way, add an hour to what you think it will take. Atlanta Friday afternoon traffic is a notorious! Getting into the stadium itself will be a challenge as well. They are opening the buses lot to game parking and moving the buses off site but it will still be very congested close to the school.
Safe travels!

@TJ, Grayson has not been able to score off of every turnover opportunity but just guessing I would say it is close to 50%. I could be bad wrong as the excitement of the game can drive your memories. As best as I remember, even the ones we did not score off of, we came out ahead on the exchange and pushed the opposing team further back than they were when they got the ball back. Don’t forget, we have been up against some *very* good teams so far and will be up against a very good team this Friday!

Mmmm, before the Grayson vs Colquitt County game there was all kinds of big talkers. They sure seem quite now. At least you learned one lesson, NEVER underestimate a football team. Some thought because the Packers lost 5 games in regular season that, surly they can’t make a run for the state title. But what you don’t understand is that Colquitt County played one of, if not the toughest schedule in the state this year. The first three teams that beat us, all remained undefeated well into the season, with South Panola becoming the #1 team in the Nation and won the Miss. State Championship yet again this year. So the Packers have played far tougher teams than Grayson. Don’t get me wrong, Grayson has a great, great football team and the Packers win was not an easy one by no means. But the bottom line is people wrote the Packers off after they started the season 0-3, they wrote them off when they finished 3rd in Region 1, the wrote them off when they made it to the playoffs, and they wrote them off when we made it to the semi-finals for the second year in the year. But, now they are all writing, Colquitt County Defeats Grayson, will play in Dome for the State AAAAA Championship! Go Pack Go!!

Phil,
I thought everyone said Calhoun was weak, and played a weak schedule. All of a sudden it changes to recruiting… Well, I’d be interested to know if you knew how many of their players came up through the Calhoun rec league together. Most of these boys grew up together. If some new talent leaves another county school to come to Calhoun for the program, you can’t really blame them. I know that there are several wrestlers going to Sonoraville because of there coaching and program, don’t blame them either. Is that recruiting or just benifiting from a strong program? Calhoun baseball is strong, very good coaching and program. They recieve a lot of major league attention. If you had a kid in the county that wanted national recognition, would you send him to Calhoun? Same goes for football. Several college teams watch Calhoun fairly close.
I don’t think you can call it recruiting.
