To me, at least 5 of the 8 remaining teams in the 5A bracket could be considered Cinderella teams, but my choice would for elimination would be Grayson, the Wildcat offense will take care of business on Friday.

Mill Creek. They will get introduced to South Ga football Friday night. Collins Hill & Grayson have experienced playing South Ga teams, however, Grayson will experience things a little different playing @ Bazemore-Hyder @ Cleveland Field Friday night. It’s one thing to beat Lowndes @ Grayson & Camden @ the Dome, it’s an entirely different proposition to play on the road.

SouthGARules – It might be better for Lowndes if Grayson wins. The Vikings want to beat Grayson more than any other team in the State. Getting to play them in front of a state wide audience and the GHSA on TV with the state’s best referees would be an awesome opportunity to even the score with them. Sideline Observer said it first, but it makes sense to me. Course we have to take care of business on our end first. And that starts with a very good Collins Hill team Friday.

AVikingFan – You are the first person to say you are playing “a very good Collins Hill team.” We started the season 1-3 and couldn’t stop anybody. The only thing we could do was throw it and score. We have won 8 in a row and defense is much better but have always struggled with good running teams, especially a Wing T. I am one of the very few that was at the Concrete Palace in ‘01 for what is still the biggest win in our school’s history. Look forward to coming south again and hopefully find a way to hold the Vikings under 30. Hope the rain pushes through early.

avikingfan…..good lord, two years later and you’re still not over the beatdown? Move on son, Grayson was the better team THAT night – regardless of whatever excuses you can muster up for your thugs. Replaying Grayson this year wouldn’t give you any revenge…those guys are gone! You’ll just have to live with it. Enjoy!

Dutchtown should not be overlooked considering their 5 shutouts and 11-1 record, but can anyone shutdown the Hooch? I think to beat Hooch you need to win a shoot out, and I am not sure that Dutchtowns offense has 30 points in them.

Henry County has 2 teams in the quarter finals, Dutchtown and ELCA. Even though I am at a different school I have to pull for these two county schools. Ductchtown is good but I don’t know that they can make it all the way, we will see. ELCA on the other hand can win the whole thing but they have to get by a very good Clinch team.

oldtimer – Son, Im probably older than you. But that loss still hurts. We think of Gayson as a very good up and coming program. They beat us in 08 fair and square, but we want another shot at’em to even the record. This time it would be on TV and no one could squabble about the refs or anything else. it would be a great game, and the hype would be enormous. Course it ain’t gonna happen. Valdosta is ending your season this Friday in Valdosta. In fact, there’s a very good chance both of the semi final AAAAA playoff games will be held the same night in Valdosta, GA! Wouldn’t that be a treat to the lcoal restaurants and motels!

@oldtimer… nice post and you are correct!!! we played grayson the week before and that was a great team… Lowdnes was a good team but let thier true colors show that night at grayson… it was about like the other Lowdnes teams tho… get em out of their place and it is hard for them to win… has been the knock on them and will continue to be until they go on the road and win… everyone traveling this holiday week be careful, go , and get home safe… we are heading to starrs mill to watch what i feel will be a “slugfest”… go raiders!!!

one thing that cant be taken away from lowdnes is that it is a great program that travels well… and takes care of business in the reg. season so they dont have to travel… i went to the mceachern vs.lowdnes game this season and was impressed with all the fans that came up for a reg. season game but not impressed when they left… no one would admit that lowdnes got beat it was someone else’s fault… bad calls have happened to everyone you still have to play and overcome those calls…

Hard to argue where the power in 5A is at just look at hows left out of the final 8 teams 3 are from the same region but saying that I really think the best game of all the classes is going to be the cook at Buford game alot of D-1 talent goin to be on that field

EastsideGuy – you are correct about Lowndes’ travel record in the recent past. But it hasn’t always been that way. We beat an undefeated Southwest Dekalb team 12-0) in their place one year, and an undefeated Lovejoy team at their place the same year. We beat an Undefeated Northside team on the road in 1999. We beat Camden twice on the road and Stephenson once. And we beat Parkview at their place for the title in 2004. How many big playoff games has your team won on the road? I seem to remember Grayson beating East Pauldin the week before they beat us in 2008 and your guys cried all week about the refs. How many state Titles has your team won? Or Grayson? or North Gwinnett? Or McEachern? Or Newnan? Or Hiram? Or Stephenson? or MLK? Or Walton? Or Lasseter?

Countdown clock is TICKING down…STARR’S MILL hears it!!!…Time to point the CANNON towards Fayetteville and HUNT SOME PANTHERS!!!…

A HUGE factor for EAST PAULDING is showing the team that PAULDING COUNTY supports the effort and hard work they have put in to get this far…FAN support is critical and we need to once again FILL THE VISITORS side to create our “HOME AWAY FROM HOME” atmosphere EAST is famous for!!!, the ROME game (at HOME!!) was not well supported, EAST is still new to this “WINNING TRADITION” that all the South Ga. teams talk about. BUT they are learning FAST!!! We had a great turnout for CLARKE CENTRAL and the team sure heard the support from the stands…GREAT call “COWBELL” with the horns, they were a HIT!!!

STARR’S MILL will be another test so let’s FILL THE STANDS and again be LOUD to make the RAIDER’S hear us and help pull them thru…

EAST so far has settled for we got close, maybe next year…well with this team…

Why NOT THIS YEAR!!!!!!

On paper STARR’S MILL appears to be VERY similar to EAST PAULDING…A “stingy” defense and the ability to put up points when needed. But while the EAST “D” averaged 10+ points during the season and has allowed only 10 points so far in the playoffs (a 5 point per game average!) STARR’S MILL has gave up 43 points in it’s 2 playoff games! They have however scored 84 points over these 2 games!!!

This will be a HUGE test for the RAIDER “D”!!!

So let’s all go to Fayetteville friday and loudly support these RAIDERS!!! They deserve it!!!

TICK…TICK…TICK…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

GO RAIDERS!!!

THE CANNON RULES!!!!

November 24th, 2010
10:00 am

A bit more on STARR’S MILL…vs…EAST PAULDING!!!

The RAIDER NATION is heading south to STARR’S MILL this friday and on paper STARR’S MILL seems LOADED…they scored 338 points during the regular season for an average of 33.8 points per game while giving up a VERY stingy 79 points only 7.9 pts per game…this seems impressive, then again, Hmmmmm!:

They are another undefeated team at 12 / 0…BUT they play in Region 3 AAAA a VERY weak region and of their 10 regular season wins 1 came against a 5/5 AA team, another 7 of the wins came against AAAA teams…one that went 1/9, two that went 2/8, three that went 3/7 and one that went 5/5 on the year! Of the 10 regular season wins STARR’S MILL only played 2 teams with winning records ALL YEAR…WHITEWATER who finished 9/3 (they BARELY beat 21/14) and GRIFFIN who finished 10/2!

Even in the playoff rounds they got HARDAWAY a 5/5 team in the 1st round and BRUNSWICK at 8/3 in the 2nd round…So a BIG question is HAVE THEY BEEN TESTED YET?????

EAST PAULDING PLAYS in REGION 5 AAAA arguably the toughest region in AAAA…with KELL, EAST, HIRAM & POPE stacked in 5N (we have to play the split region) and SOUTH PAULDING, VILLA RICA & DOUGLAS COUNTY at the top of the SOUTH side!

EAST PAULDING also scored an impressive 332 points during the regular season to average 33.2 points per game while only allowing 117 points or 11.7 per game! The difference is the teams they did this against!

Finally while STARR’S MILL played a 5/5 HARDAWAY & a 8/3 BRUNSWICK to advance to the 3rd round friday night…EAST PAULDING’S RAIDERS just beat the #2 TEAM in the STATE…CLARKE CENTRAL in ATHENS on the road!

Just a few FACTS for thought and discussion while we eat the Turkey…

TICK…TICK…TICK…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

GO RAIDERS!!!!!…ON TO THE DOME!!!!!

Here’s the thing. Last week the computer had us as 18 point underdogs and Todd and Chip both picked CC, but we were not really the underdogs; we were the best team on the field. You didn’t hear Clarke Central crying about refs or the clock or us getting lucky.
Not sure about the computers but Todd and Chip picked Starr’s Mill this week. We’re used to the Rodney Dangerfield treatment.
To me this looks exactly like 2006 when Starrs Mill’s last good run/winning season ended at the Boneyard. Now you have a new coach and get home field and we have to leave the cannon at the Boneyard.
You might light us up and continue on to the semis, but I don’t think so. One thing I am very sure of, you’re not playing McIntosh or Fayette County Friday night. THE RAIDERS ARE COMING!!!!!

Where is ol” Eagle somebody that was on here

Robins was the greatest, and that Region 1 AAAAA
was over rated and their fans didn’t follow their games.
Colquitt, Valdosta and Lowndes are in 1 AAAAA.

longhorn – Thanks, where do you find those computer rankings?
Glad you won that coin toss, this life on the road isn’t that much fun although Clarke Central fans were very courteous and even congratulatory after the game and I’m sure they’ll be the same at Starr’s. Starr’s is a class act school. I remember in 2006 they had violins in the marching band and played Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Ninth and it was excellent!
I think we’ll have to see if we can get the Hiram voodoo lady to go back to Tucker and bring her most powerful gris-gris and maybe a dead chicken or two so we can get Ware County at the Boneyard next week.

@kpheagle, if you will read all the post i have made about collins hill i have stated that yall are a good team and have a good qb. lowmdes will have to play a great game to get a w.

as for anyone who wants to doubt lowndes going on the road and winning, well we have already in my mind put that to rest when we went to DEATH valley and defeated the wildcats at their house. it was not easy and we were on the ropes and ready to be KO”d but we did not give up and valdosta defense got tired and our run game took over and valdostas qb made a mistake late also. i can assure you that grayson will find out what death valley is all about fri night

Can’t overlook anybody at this point…especially when they’re pitching shutouts! I don’t know much about Dutchtown either, but on paper Hooch should come out on top this weekend!

Dutchtown sounds pretty good, but Hooch kicker can match him if he is on! Too many weapons for the Hooch offense!

Hooch defense gets a boost with the return of Div 1 prospect DE Dixon after missing a couple of games. Defense will be ready for a full game this week!

Hopefully, everyone will get to the Arena early (avoid the traffic) and be ready to rock!!

Ware County’s defense is one of the best in the state. They were overmatched on the line as far as weight but the Gators have on of the fastest teams in the state. Look for Ware to lay the “D” on Tucker’s running game……Ware 24 Tucker 21…..Go Gators!!!!!

Personal I’m glad they have EP as underdogs. It makes them work harder. I think the Sprayberry game our boys feel asleep that week. I also think them losing to SPHS was a good thing for 2 reasons. 1) EP dons’t take games for granted now and 2) others don’t give us as much credit as they should.

Now at Starr’s Mill lets make our own cannon noise on TDs now. ALL READY ON 3 1 – 2 – 3 BOOOMMM!!!!

Cook and Buford …should be a great game..but I actually think Cook’s spread offense will be too much for Buford’s defense. Cook has nearly 3000 yards passing and the same rushing, so they are a well balanced offense with some explosive players. Should be a good game.

@ CANNON RULES. I definitely have to respect all of the information that u posted about Stars and EP. A couple weeks a go nobody gave u guys a chance now u are playing like one of the best teams in the state. I honestly thought CC would crush u but boy was I wrong.

I think our teams are similar in a lot of ways. We are both scrappy teams that fight hard. Both defenses are dominating and both offenses can be explosive when need be. I think losing our WR will definitely set us back but I still believe we’ll be able to pound the ball and run in ‘the trenches”. It should be a cold, rainy, sloppy game so whoever can win the turnover battle will ultimately win the game. With our home field advantage and EP coming off a major win last week I think they will fold against us.

My prediction – 13 to 10…..On to the Final Four to play Tucker. GO PANTHERS
