Good luck, Grayson. You’ve worked hard to accomplish a lot in a few years. If Brookwood doesn’t win it all this year, we hope it is our neighbors in Gwinnett – this year’s High School Football power.

S. Georgia – we don’t hate you – we simply want some respect. And, I think this year we’ve earned it

@CHEAGLE – one can’t get water from a well that’s been pumped dry. Thus, my encounters with Camden74 have only left a dry taste in my mouth. It’s best we let Camden74 work out his personal problems himself. There’s nothing you nor I can do for him. We’re from the wrong side of the state, you see, and that’s all this fellow wants to talk about. Beats me why. He even said that the “decked was stacked,” as if somehow our teams cheated, and didn’t deserve to be in the semis.
Go figure.

My son was playing against Collins Hill in fifth grade. He’s now in his third year at the Naval Academy. He got run over by Dallas Lee (who was big as a house at an early age) when Dallas was in the GFL for Collins Hill (before he became all everything for Buford). I sort of root for Collins Hill often, but NOT this Friday. I hope you’ll understand.

Jefferson,
Calhoun will spread them out, maybe give that 5′9″ 170 lb rb a small crease in that big line. It probably won’t score early but they will wear down trying to keep up with him. They have to keep firing down field to keep the dbacks busy, then option between 5, and 28 with an occasional keeper. The D has to keep it managable though, or it will not work.

@NYCDawg…Thanks. Its about the kids. I was most impressed with 1. your facility…2 Your fan support and 3. Your QB… My son plays JV so I got behind the team and rallied. I am sooo proud of our accomplishments this year. The future looks bright for Cedar Grove, its definitely not gonna be another 20 year wait to see us again. At least I hope not.. :)

Gwinnett dad: was it CH or Dacula he played for in the GFL….any league program always have parents looking for the best fit for their siblings…DLee is playing for UGA now I believe…congrats to all Gwinnett(5) teams that are still playing in December….Another amazing year coming to a close…..WoofWoof

@Wolf, it was Collins Hill, unless my brain isn’t functioning properly. DLee is playing for UGA now as a Freshman. I sort of lost track of him, I believe there was some prep school necessary, or something, for him some time along the way, which is why he’s now 2 years behind my son.

@grayram, @BroncoDad, @CHEAGLE – just in case you missed it, Gwinnett County has just won the distinction of winning the 2010 Broad Prize for Urban Education as the best urban school district in the country. Of course, that includes Brookwood, Collins Hill, and Grayson. Grayson’s Mickey Conn spoke last year at our church (with his good friend Clemson Football coach Dabo Swinney – Roll Tide!), and is one of the find men leading our sons to play good football and become better men. So, yes, there’s some good things going on here, which IS showing up on the football field.

GwinnettDad

November 29th, 2010
4:40 pm

And maybe, just maybe, I’ll include one more story about Gwinnett County football. Many of you know of Cecil Flowe, the fine coach from Parkview. He’s been the coach throughout Parkview’s four State Championships. He played on the same college football team as Mark Crews, coach of Brookwood High School. When the previous coach at Parkview Chuck Mize was murdered by his son Chip in 1993 (for reasons not understood to this day, stabbed his mother too, and is serving life in prison), it was Dave Hunter, then coach of Brookwood, and Mark Crews, then an assistant, that recommended Cecil Flowe to become the Parkview Coach. And Coach Flowe has gone on to coach some fine men, including Jeff Francoeur and the Stinchcomb brothers, among many others. Gives me chills. Just one more good story of Gwinnett Football. And that’s a Georgia football story too, unless for some reason, you think your part of Georgia isn’t part of this story.

@Bronco Dad….I think real GA HS football fans down here have always given a fair amount of respect due to teams from the north, it is just those fringe posters on both sides that give the whole thing a bad look. But for the record, this is one fan who does not have a problem giving Grayson (and Collins Hill) their respect for what is worth, and there are a lot of us down here that feel the same way. Actually, the next few years should look good for the north as the programs down here will suffer from the inability to keep the best athletes on the field. Factors such as poverty, socioeconomics, and rural area issues in youth development will continue to see a decline in the ability of these teams to keep producing powerhouse teams. No one seriously expects Valdosta to contend for a state 5A title, which is why their was so much excitement around this year’s team

Lowndes and Camden are the only true 5A programs and the rest will continue to be over achieving 4A sized programs with periodic success, like Colquitt. The challenge for north GA is that with so many programs, it will be difficult for one to etablish itself over long periods of time. Everyone has a geographic challenge in one form or another.

Good luck to the remaining 4 teams in 5A, anyone could win it and it not be a total upset or surprise.
Titletown Fan signing off until next year’s party….this site provided me a lot of laughs this year.

@CHEAGLE………You are a piece of work! It’s obvious you don’t have a clue about Camden County. Your statement, “Football is more important than education” in Camden County, is one of the most idiotic statements I’ve ever read! It’s also clear that your school has never made it this far in the past. Get over yourself and your grade school mentality! It’s fortunate that the words written on this blog have no effect on the outcome of what happens on the field! At least I hope they don’t……….

People dont let Titletown Fan speak for the rest of us. Lowndes and camden are the only true 5A schools down south? Whatever dude! Colquitt has periodical success? That is a pretty stupid remark coming from someone whose team for two straight years didnt make it further than a periodic packer team. I also know he aint speaking for the rest of vikings fans.

@Titletown Fan, Very well written. It is always the fringes that get the attention and the media space, just look at our political system.

@GwinnettDad…….You and CHEAGLE must be brothers! You both like to make things up! I have absolutely no problem with Gwinnett County or it’s HS football players! But I do have issues with their overbearing, no football knowledge, hypocritical, nut job fans! You guys do a lot of talking after the fact. Now that your team has advanced(Cheagle), you come out of the woodwork with gums flapping 100 mph! Where were you all during the regular season? Did either of you play football or any other sport for Gwinnett County? You remind me of guys who wither under pressure!

Agree with you ole. Lambert… The Statesboro wishbone is not going to cut it. The Hooch has too many athletes on both sides of the ball. We score points in bunches. If you can’t match us 7 for 7 you will be down by 21 pts before you know it. We will take a ‘bone team and make them a passing squad which they are not accustomed. Speed Kills and this thing will be a wrap headed into the 4th. HOOCH ROLLS!!!!

Heard that Statesboro has a beast of a running back but that is about it. Bring on the wishbone and all its wonders and it is going to be broken with the large half (going to the Dome) being in Hooch’s hands.

The infamous words of Blind Willie McTell say “woke up this morning we had them Statesboro blues” and that is exactly what the Blue Devils are going to be feeling after Hooch comes to town this Friday!

I haven’t been posting for awhile because my team lost and the rules were if your team lose then you shouldn’t post anymore. I have been reading alot of post and had to restrain myself from posting but some of you all take the cake, especially you folks in Gwinnett County. I am glad to see all teams advance as far as they have but for you Gwinnett county folks that haven’t been on here and now you come out like a dog in heat. Let’s set the record straight. Yes you have 3 of 4 teams left. No Doubt about that. But lets remember you also put in 8 teams which gives your county the best shot when each school is in all 4 brackets. If you take how many teams each county gets into the state in the 32 team field you will see that you all have the most respresentation. So please do not get it twisted when you talk “BIG TALK”, I am not disrespect you either. I am looking at it from a factual stand point when you have some counties that has only 2 or 3 representations. Good Luck to teams remaining.

To all Starrs Mill fans. Congrats on a great win on fri. This is the first chance I’ve had to post since then. The better team won and from what I saw I think your team has an excellent chance to win state this year. Unfortunatley I had to leave the game just as the 3rd quarter was ending so I didn’t get to stay and applaud my Raiders for another great season. @Touchdown T, Thanks for the support, we can use it! I might be involved with something the Touchdown Club is doing this Friday earlier in the afternoon. I’ve been sick for 3 days and I hope to get over it before Friday as I will be beside myself if I can’t make it to the game! Re: that pick 6, easy to see why they run tip drills! Was it 3 tips before he hauled it in? And it helped that Hogan had the presence of mind to realize that he could try to pull it in and not just bat it down. I think that as much as anything helped to demoralize the crowd if not the players. Isn’t the Wildcat QB highly rated and very effective? Grayson has played almost mistake free ball the past two weeks and it has made the difference.

@grayram, Surely you jest! (Don’t call me Shirley! Leslie Neilsen RIP :( ) You are planning on getting there just before the game? You must live close enough to walk. The are moving all of the buses off-site and opening up the bus lot but it will be tight!
