GwinnettDad– These boys have been battling each other for 10+ years in the GFL and now HS. It is great to see both team doing so well this year. it should be a good game and a great representation of what Gwinnett football has grown into. It has been fun to what all the boys grow into young men. You have a good group of young men over there at Brookwood. My son & I meet a few of them last year at an Auburn game. They were very well spoken.

I know they will be ready on Friday, as will we.

sportsmommy74… You are right the score didn’t tell how the Bears dominated… The fumbles and change in play of Cedars starting QB after getting hurt did.. Anyone that has played any level of organized football will tell you how getting hit hard (and on returns {consecutive fumbled kickoffs for those who don’t know} knowing you are gonna get popped) changes the way some players play the game.. Sorry, but that’s football. Some players hit and others flinch. I have been posting Burke County’s sleeper factor for weeks and no one seems to be listening. Are you listening Carrolton, the county boys bring the wood!! Regardless, props to Cedar Grove, they did play a really strong game, and the truth is that AAA has been the most balanced and even conference of them all. Look at the semi’s, everyone is a 1 seed.

I think there will be enough seats. There were plenty left win Lowndes visited and Newnan last year.
If it fills up on the visitor side i’m sure we can find some room for you.

Grayson also lost to a team from AAAA this year. A very good Kell team beat Grayson in the dome. And Buford or Tucker could compete with the AAAAA teams around here. I’m sure the Packers are plenty good enough or they wouldn’t still be playing. I’m hoping the Rams don’t lose their edge after beating North and Valdosta on the road then finally getting a home game.

You are correct with the number of titles that Camden, Parkview and Valdosta has.

The only error is that Brookwood has only one state title in football and it was in 1996.

@NYCDAWG… you’re right, I’ve been saying all along, you can’t keep letting ur QB get drilled. It took a toll on him on Friday night. I was most impressed with your QB, he avg 8 yards per carry. Straight up the middle.. NICE… Good lick to you guys. At least if you win, we can say we lost to the state champs… Good luck…

Looks like we’re roadtripping to Statesboro! And I thought that Whitfield County was a long trip! We’re going to need ALL the Hooch fans to come support the team!! We need to load up as many fan buses that we can. Hopefully, the students will realize what an opportunity this is to support the team and create some awesome HS memories!!

Hooch continues to meet all challenges on the field! The wake-up call with Marist was huge! Byerly and Whitehurst combo has yet to be stopped! And there are too many other weapons if they try to key on those two!

Of course, you can’t overlook any team that can travel to Kell and shut them down! I’m sure Statesboro is fired up too!

Question: What happened in the Liberty County game? That game (29-0 loss) just doesn’t seem to fit!!

Regardless, Hooch Fans come support the team….they deserve it!!

@Burkeco.1Fan…. Hmm our #4 caught his passes and he is a D1 Verbal Commit to Tenn… We blew the game. It was close until 5:00 left in game and we fumbled the ball not 1, not 2, but 3 times. We got not a single call on the roughing the kicker that your team KEPT doing all night. At least 3 times… it just so happens that our QB is also our punter. So he was hurt. I’d like to play you guys again when he’s healthy. I doubt the score would be the same. But i’m not into sour grapes… we had a great season for a squad that wa only supposed to win 3-4 games…

Again good luck!

Noo I graduated recently from Brookwood and I know grayson will get in the ship game and Brookwood will be in a tough one. But my point is Peach County man come on who knows about them lil dudes. If u not in the AAAAA you not playin with the big boys. How many D1 players has Peach produced in the last 10 years?

ARE U SERIOUS? ALL PEACH COUNTY HAS DONE IS WIN 218 GAMES OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS. THAT’S TEN WINS A SEASON RIGHT? 22 CONSECUTIVE YEARS IN THE STATE PLAYOFFS. BEEN TO THE STATE SIX TIMES DURING THAT SPAN. LOST OUR FIRST THREE APPEARANCES. BUT SINCE HAVE GONE ON TO WIN 3 OUT OF THE LAST FIVE YEARS. WE ARE RANKED HIGHER THAN ANY OTHER TEAM IN GA ON A NATIONAL LEVEL. AND YOU ASK WHO IS PEACH COUNTY? YOU MUST NOT BE A FAN OF GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL THEN. I AM AN AVID FAN, AND I KNOW CLASSIFICATION MEANS NOTHING… YOU HAVE TO LINE UP JUST LIKE THE SMALLER SCHOOLS ON FRIDAY NIGHT. AND TO TOP IT OFF, PEACH HAS THE LONGEST WIN STREAK IN THE STATE… SANDY CREEK RIGHT BEHIND US…. I GUESS AAA AINT SO BAD IS IT? P.S. WE ALSO HAVE PUT 8 PLAYERS IN THE NFL, HOW MANY HAS YOUR SCHOOL PRODUCED?

@PCTrojan4life, First off prayers to the family of the fan that was killed Friday night.

The Game…Unbelievable game and performance by Mcaffey and Richmond. man! You couldn’t stop mcaffery, and Richmond put the team on his shoulders the last five min. Coach should have punted on that 4th and 1 and gave you all a long field. that MAY have made a diff.

Peach vs. Sandy creek is going to be awesome. We(stockbridge) played both and I give the edge to SC because of their passing game. Should be a great game. PC passing game actually may be your Achilles heal. Grady shut down Demarco and the other kid, but I just like Grady couldn’t stop Richmond, I don’t see SC defense stopping him either. I also don’t see your defense stopping them, it will come down to who has the ball last. We made the mistake of trying to run outside on PC. You cant. too fast. But you can run right at them, which is what SC will do.

burke co.1.fan – lay off the caps, it makes most people just skip over all of your comments.

To everyone else – I understand it’s great to support your team but I don’t get all the North vs South crap. I know Mill Creek isn’t it anymore but I wouldn’t pull for Grayson or Brookwood anymore than I’d pull for CC. I’d rather CC win it all so we could at least say we lost to the champs (lol). I wouldn’t mind Collins Hill being in the ship as there are pretty close and in the same region but all the other Gwinnett County schools don’t really mean a whole lot to me.

I guess some people just look for something to debate or argue about. Good luck to all the teams still alive!

And to the Hawks, what a fantastic run! Outside of the team not many thought you go do it. Keep working hard and strive to make this a yearly run!

Congratulations to a great Collins Hill team. Their Quarterback is one of the top 2 or 3 I have ever seen perform in high school. The Collins Hill fans were vocal, but gracious in their win. They are very classy. Their coaches had the team ready to play, and had a great offensive and defensive game plan.

I am proud of the Lowndes Vikings. As Todd Holcumb very accurately stated, this was not a typical Lowndes team. It could not just line up and run the ball down the field against a good defense. Yet we were able to score 28 points without barely even trying to pass the ball. (WHY??? – I guess in an attempt to keep Heinike off the field.)

“South Georgia” football failed miserably against “North Georgia” and the pain will linger for a long time. But the teams that won were really good teams, with some great athletes and coaches. What a great state we live in!!!!

I still plan on attending the finals in the Georgia Dome. I know I will see some great high school football. Again Congrats to Collins Hill and to all the winners.

I will be on the side for the rest of the playoffs, and will eagerly await next year. Goodbye fellow bloggers. Hope I see as many of you as possible at the dome. I will proudly wear my name tag “AVikingFan.”

Someone asked if Hooch will be loaded next year. I think the answer is clearly “no”. Hooch is going to graduate 3-4 offensive lineman, who were 3-year starters, their QB and their top receiver/return man, their best defensive lineman, their starting middle linebacker, . . . . If Hooch is going to win it all, this is the year.

I believe coach Parker has been there for 4 years now. This is our D coordinator Michael Youngblood’s first year with his staff (Burke co. Alum, Ga Southern 3x nat champ, former head coach of Dunwoody). When I was at BC (same time as youngblood) coach Parker was coaching Kendrell Bell (UGA alum, former NFL D rookie of the year) and turning around Lucy Laney’s program. I know him pretty well now and can tell you that he is a class act and the sky is the limit for him. I want my lil bro (10 years old, unbiased- amazing young talent [I send him to UGA camp every summer]) to play for him wherever he is in a few years… Coach Parkers 2 sons are pretty darn good too.

Grayson is too tough at home. Defense is off the chain with the speed of the DL and flexable LB will make a QB nervous all night. the Grayson secondary is also no joke. I would guess leading in INT and PBU’s.
I counted 4 PBU’s and 3 INT against Valdosta alone.

Grayson has 19 INT’s and 21 PBU’s on the year. and I challenge anyone to prove other wise. GRAYSON is #1 in the state!

WarEagle – Hooch will NOT be loaded next year!

Hooch will be competitive next year, but I really doubt there will be another deep playoff run next year. Really good Fr & So RBs, but the OL will have to step up. There is a good group of QBs in the system that can throw and run (not quite Byerly-like…yet), but potential is there.

I agree – this is the year for possible Hooch Championship!

Camden74- you don’t have to deal with it so you don’t understand or care. Gwinnett is gaining ground even though we have to deal with the redistricting. Maybe someday they will split your school and you’ll get taste of it. I don’t think yall will let it happen because football is more important then the kids education down there. Gwinnett has done a GREAT Job making sure our class sizes are where they need to be in order to provide the best learning environment and our test score prove it. After all that is what really matters.

Until then we are still gaining ground.

And to answer your question…THIS YEAR!

valleyboy32 I never said the game wasn’t close by the time cairo got to the redzone in the second half the game was already 10-0 in the fourth QTR not mention the missed chance to make the game 17-0 by half time but silly penalties completly knocked us out of range for another score So it could have been close and then again it could have been worse for cairo but it is what it is we won anyway.

AAAAA is really close this year.
Brookwood: beat Collins Hill in OT and Beat Grayson 10-0 in a game that Grayson missed a short kick and had a td called back. It was a great game.

Collins Hill: The games they lost were to teams capable of beating anyone. Brookwood in OT, MLK, and North Gwinnett. This team is rolling and i don’t think anyone would look forward to facing them right now.

Colquitt: Lost some games early to some really good teams but thats ancient history. This team thrives in the playoffs, last year beating Lassiter and Stephenson then playing Camden tough at Camden. This year knocking out MLK and a surprising Mill Creek.

Grayson: Beat a great North Gwinnett team and Valdosta both on the road.

Any of these teams can win this without it being a surprise.
