Jammer, I’m sorry for being unclear about the coin toss. The two athletic directors had previously agreed that if both teams won, we would meet in Adel after the game to keep both coaches/ADs from having to make a long trip to meet for the coin toss the next morning. I was part of the caravan with the team buses from Grayson and it just so happened that the way the buses parked and one of the other cars stopped, I was right next to the couple of cars/trucks with the Colquitt people. I was just sitting their in my car/trailer with the window down watching and listening to what was going on. There were 4-6 Colquitt people maybe and we never unloaded our buses or anything like that. Like I said, I was in the right place at the right time to see something not too many people get to see. Pretty cool!

Pressed the comment button too soon. It was actually pretty funny watching these grown men trying to watch the coin hit the ground in the parking lot of King Frog in Adel and not lose the coin in the dark!

The Collins Hill-Lowndes game was one of the most entertaining games that I have seen. Not only was I impressed with the game, but the people, band, facilities and campus were extremely nice. I had expected the Lowndes fans to be a little obnoxious, especially with them sitting on both sides of our section, but from what I saw, that was not the case at all. Lowndes has a lot to be proud of. Our eagles played their hearts out just like they have all season and persevered once again. Now it’s time for a little payback over in Snellville. Go Eagles!
To plowboy – I’m not sure what your referring to with our receiver and his actions, but it could not have been any worse than some of the lude dancing and actions of a few of the lowndes players in front of our section, even during warm-ups.

In 5A football this season there is no denying the supremecy of Region 8. Not only does it have 2 of the 4 finalists left to vy for the championship, but it also has the best overall record in the playoffs, 7-2. Only Region 1 and Region 7 are close with1 team each in the semi’s and 7-3 cumulative records. Oh wait, aren’t Region 7 and Region 8 both in Gwinnett county? Why yes they are indeed. I guess, for this year at least, winning football is found here in Gwinnett!

saw the fitzgerald – calhoun game friday night. two well coached/talented teams. classic story, big and fast beats small and fast. calhoun has a chance to go all the way. fitzgerald will be a force to deal with next year. I have watched ga high school foot ball for many years and believe the AA teams of buford, carver. and calhoun could compete with the best in any class in our state.

I bet it was a sight to watch, but on the upside of doing the toss last night it should help the psych of both teams not only knowing who there opponent is but where the game is gonna take place. I look forward to this Friday and a good game for both teams

all these folks that think S GA reigns supreme………get over it. The playing field was set equal years ago. If any one region is the king of the hill, it’s Gwinnett – with 7 of the final 16 and 3 of the final 4……..

Two last comments and I’m done for the week.
My wife and I both commented on how well officiated the game was. Sure there were a couple of spots that didn’t go our way and a couple of penalties we though could have been called but were but that is just our opinion. Over all the refs did a good job and let the boys play with a minimum of interference. The calls were mostly things like delay, movement, off sides, that type of thing. After all of the comments about the officials recently, this was refreshing.
What was the deal with the scoreboards. About 10 seconds after the game ended, the scoreboards were turned off. We didn’t even have time to get a picture. Y’all graciously let us on the field for our after game celebration and did not as far as I could tell try to hurry us off or anything. It was disappointing to have the scoreboard shut off so quickly.
See y’all next week on the semi-final discussion boards!

yes it appears Gwinnett Schools are at the top of the mountain this year, good games by all the teams to make the play offs and grats to the ones still standing for another week. You didn’t get this far without alot of hard work There is still 1 more 1AAAAA standing, they are a team that got wrote off early by a few posters here due to our regular season record and the fact that we came from a region of 5. The big thing is, somebody forgot to tell them they had no chance, they have showed the heart and the desire to stick around and talking with the actual Kids that put the uniforms on for the games they still believe they can win. Guess thats why we still play the games on Friday instead of picking the winners by the numbers posted on a stat sheet. Look forward to to watching the game on Friday and then watching the Championships at the Dome, who ever might be playing

Looking forward to seeing Colquitt for the first time. Should be a great game.
The brothers on Graysons defense and Michael Peek get mentioned alot and they well deserve it.
I would like to point out another player that plays both ways and doesn’t seem to get mentioned much. #74 does a great job at center and on the Defensive line.

Once again, I give props and respect to Grayson and Collins Hill for coming south and getting big wins, they are both good teams that registered big wins, but all these “coming out the woodwork” posters are funny to me. To the regular Gwinett posters, you have every right to flex and be proud for this year and I will continue to read and follow your posts and the outcomes of the next two rounds of games…I am a true fan of HS football and can continue to appreciate the race to the end.
Those who posted the rankings and listed the Gwinnett schools and then South Georgia are about as idoitic as some of the other posters from NSWR, Camden, and Lowndes Co (we all have them). If the measuring stick is sheer numbers of playoff teams and not a consideration of proportion or population, then you can easily consider Gwinnett a powerhouse region for the foreseeable future,
but for some reason, I think state championships will matter more in the long run and it remains to be seen who will wear the crown for this year.
So many people saying good-bye to Region 1, when they should just be saying good bye to Titletown….you have to give to Colquitt for making another deep run and all 4 of these teams have a decent shot in my opinion.

I tell you people the coaching staff does not have a day off during the season or playoffs. Analyzing film on sat. on sunday practice between 2pm and 5 pm then the monday thru thursday practices. On Thursday leave to go stay in hotel wherever they play. So noone cant ever say our team isnt working hard to reach the dome

I also read earlier that yall have a decent o line, how are the tackles because if they were anything like valdostas we might give yall some trouble in the backfield… I have a gut feeling this might be a ground and pound type game!

Jaybo: I thought you were done for the year but I understand. This football thing is just hard to let go. Now, to put you at peace, ENR has not been on here since the first play-off week. While I am a die heart fan of mid and south georgia football teams, I am forever fearful of metro teams QB’s. They develop a lot of gunslingers plus most are big and fast. You definitely have to have good DB’s.
How did your little guys team do thid year?

Gwinnett Football Fanatic…here’s the answer to your question about the “Packer Hawg”. (from “Moultrie Magazine” One only needs to come to the football stadium on a Friday night this fall to see how deep Packer-pride runs in Colquitt County. But, the amazing part is how that fierce wild boar came to be the county mascot we all revere. The story began in 1914 with the opening of Moultrie Packing Company. Faced with the declining demand for timber for naval stores operations and a sudden threat of boll weevil to cotton, several Moultrie businessmen launched a meat packing operation to provide a market for hogs and cattle. Their ultimate goal was to develop a livestock industry in South Georgia, and it proved to be a successful mission. Three years later, Moultrie Packing was purchased by Swift and Company and began a strong assent as the area’s top employer which at its prime, employed over 750 individuals. The decision to select the Packer Hawg as the high school’s mascot provides a glimpse of the identification the county received from this meat packing industry and the loyalty of the early Colquitt Countians to immortalize it forever. Packer-pride communicates how much life revolved around industry in the early 1900’s.

Grayson has a few two way players. I read the numbers and look at their graduation date but can not remember names. Number 90 is a beast…no matter who is in front of him, it does not matter. If the are bigger he is faster, if they are fast he is stronger, and if they are big and strong he is bigger and stronger. Now he is running the ball…i feel sorry for anyone tackling him head on at 6ft 5 and 250 pounds. And he is a Sophmore. Number 75 is big and fast as is number 74. Primarily offense and swap on defense to keep fresh…..I see 74 is a junior, wonder what colleges are knocking on his door, he does not stop hitting you until whistle blows. Number 4 is a banger…..he makes everyone realize it is a collision sport. An unsung hero that plays both ways is 57, great motor! Then of course you have 18…anyone know if he is going division 1 college? All these 2 way players a extremely physical and will get offers I am sure. Did I miss anyone that goes both ways? I think the changes the coaches made there are paying off. They have the right people in the right spots rotating. Best defense and offense has improved because they air it out. But it just comes down to one thing more than anything else….they are really physical and other teams get shaken by it.

There was a large packing plant that proccessed about 3000 hogs a day in Moultrie for about 80 years (Swift Co.). It was transformed into National Beef about 15 years ago. Thus, “Packer” Hogs!

I find it very interesting that so many posters find it necessary to include me (ENR) in their post. Look, Northside was upset this season. We are very proud of our guys and look forward to the upcoming season.
First of all, hats of to what may be the best classification in Georgia, AAAA. There are four teams left. 3 of the 4 are undefeated. If Colquitt County wins the AAAAA State Championship, posters of AAAAA programs can forget about telling me how great AAAAA football is. Colquitt entered the playoffs 5-5.
Peach County (a Middle Georgia powerhouse) is going to win another State Championship. Carver-Columbus is going to coast and I can not wait for the Carver vs. Buford game, assuming that the Wolves beat Lovett.
Finally, Brookwood is back. Many of us were shocked to see Warner Robins go 2-8 this season. It is sad when a great Georgia program hits a rough patch. Brookwood is back where they belong. It is nice to see the Broncos back in the saddle. For a matter of fact, I am going to jump on the Broncos bandwagon. I sat among Brookwood fans as an 8th grader when Warner Robins ran up the score on them in the 1988 State Championship game. They were one of the first great Gwinnett programs. It would only seem right for Brookwood to win that elusive State Championship. Good luck Broncos!

Scott I was at the ELCA/Clinch game and it was a long bus ride home. Great game but we made a couple of mistakes that cost us. ELCA absolutely could have won that game. For the 4yrs of being a follower of TUCKER high school, ajc has not given these students their props for a job well done for their football program. How do you continue to leave their out of the line up when you list everyone in the AAAA but our next game against Ware Co. is not listed. This is high school football not pro, even though you must agree we play that way. SERIOUSLY, what is the problem you have with TUCKER. Are they not doing what they are suppose to do and that is play the game. Let’s give them a big CONGRADULATIONS!!!!!
The students do read these comments as well and do wonder WHY they are never mention like all the other teams in a positive manner. We teach them to speak good about other then we have to be the example. This WHOLE class (2011) is a major factor to the team and they see themselves as family, friends and teammates. Give credit where credit is do.
CONGRADULATIONS TO ALL SCHOOLS THAT HAVE COME THIS FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Kingsbay1….what are you like 13 years old?
@TJ….I agree that #90 for Grayson is a dominant DL and to just be a sophmore is even more to applaud, but if they starting letting him run the ball at 6′5 / 250, he might may an impact, but that sure is risk for injuries considering most tacklers will attack him low. I am sure that Colquitt will line up Xzavier Ward in front of him and give him more of a challenge than the Valdosta OL, they could not match up.
