@Blake, yes. 7 turnovers. If I was Collins Hill, I’d get a video of that game and the coverages being used by Hillgrove. It was the worst game the Brookwood QB probably ever has had in his life.

@Blake, “win it all?” Brookwood? Let us not imitate some of the bonehead mistakes that other bloggers have made here. All that such predictions do is make the opponents more motivated. Avoid such behaviors.

First of all, it was great to meet yo, AVikingFan & Viking Dad tonight. You gentlemen are a class act, it’s nice to put a face with a poster on the blogs. A tremendous game tonight, it’s a shame that one team had to lose.
A point of clarification: Grayson HS is really located in Loganville. Their physical address is 50 Hope Hollow Road, Loganville, GA.
To go ahead & anoint certain teams in the finals is a bit premature, to say the least. Any of the 4 teams could win state in each classification, so no one should be surprised with who wins state.

AJC.COM promised that we would have photos from four games:

Hillgrove vs. Brookwood (AAAAA)
Peach Co. vs. Grady (AAA)
Wilcox Co. vs. Wesleyan (A)
Cook vs. Buford (AA)

They delivered on 3 out of 4 of those games, so now the question is: Where are the photos from the AAA Peach County vs. Grady game? We know you have them, so give them up so we can see ‘em!

As a side note, Peach Co. defeated a Grady team that was big on talent and big on heart. Coach Millen runs a quality program and led his boys to a wonderful season. They’ll be back next year, so AAA will have to be ready for them. Overall, it was a tough game and Peach has to have a few of their key players heal fast following the win tonight.

Sandy Creek is looking like the team that everyone thought Peach would be. AJC mistakenly believed that Peach would have the easiest road to the GA Dome, but after defeating its first three opponents by a combined score of 133-3, that honor belongs to them. No doubt that Chip Walker and his Sandy Creek staff will get a lot of good info from his dad, Rodney Walker, the man credited with beginning the dynasty at Peach and the current coach at Mary Persons High (lost to Peach 41-20 this year). That will be a good game.

The most dominating and eye-opening performance in AAA goes to Carrollton. With their 17-0 win over previously undefeated Cairo, they proved tonight that they are more than just the ‘other’ Trojans, but rather they may be THE Trojans to beat this year. All that stands in the way of them facing another undefeated team (Sandy Creek or Peach) for the state title is the pesky squad from Burke County that just keeps on winning.

Speaking of Burke County, did anyone have them in the quarterfinals, much less the quarterfinals? They faced the difficult task of defeating Baldwin, a team that they had lost to in the first game of the season and about as difficult a #2 as any in AAA outside of St. Pius. The win over Cedar Grove has been their most dominating, but the other wins were less pretty. But the fact remains: They keep winning! They travel to Carrollton next Friday so it will be interesting for Coach Parker and his boys.

I guess everyone forgot what I have been saying for weeks. Don’t “sleep” on Collins Hill HS!!!!! Still, no one listens. We just did it again in Lowndes County. The Eagle Nation pulled out a fabulous O/T win on the road. Brookwood is next for the Eagle “beat down”! Geaux Eagle!!!! U 2 Eagle Nation. When is the AJC going to recognize our football program? I guess we just have 2 “crash the Dome” to get the respect we deserve. Holla!

The East Paulding coaches told me after the game that we are by far the most physical team they’ve seen this season,”…hmmm..was that on the offensive or defensive side of the ball….how about both! We punched you square in the mouth, jaw and nose all game long. It didn;t matter if we had the ball or not.

That’s Region 3 football baby! EP players have nothing to be ashamed of. You were simply beat by a better, stronger, faster and the most physical team you have seen this year as described by your coaches. Do not hang your head because you couldn’t do what your obnoxious fans said you could do. You are just notch # 13 in the Mill.s belt!..

Just got home from Valdosta (2 hrs to Jacksonville), where I saw the Collins Hill OT win. Tremendous win for them, and congratulations. I’m not going to read through 22 pages of comments but I’m pretty sure anything I could say has been said already tonight. A couple observations anyway – keeping in mind that I’ve said before that CH has the kind of pass-oriented team that was tailored to Lowndes’ weakest point, the pass defense.
Lowndes showed what a well-rounded program they are, with so many weapons to go to, and they had success tonight from offense (a couple long TD drives), defense (2 INT, one returned I think for a TD), and special teams (a 60-plus yard punt, some good kickoff returns). Collins Hill was, in contrast, a one-dimensional team, but what a dimension! When you rely completely on one gifted QB, you stand or fall with him and I don’t see that kind of team winning the championship. But it was good enough to keep the ball moving all night and get the win. CH played something you rarely see done well in high school ball, a ball control offense operated from the shotgun, and while LHS mostly succeeded in preventing the long completions, they could not close the door on him and force a punt when it counted, especially on numerous critical 3rd downs.
The Vikings led 14-7, 21-14, and 28-21, but each time CH came back with long drives of their own to tie it back up.
Penalty-wise, CH played a nearly flawless game, whereas the Vikings incurred at least three needless procedure calls on offense in the second half, putting a further drag on their offense. CH did a creditable job on D.
Last note – Lowndes’ game-worn jerseys from last season have been on sale all year at the concession stand and this game, they were on half price! I got a tremendous maroon home jersey with hardly a scratch for just ten bucks, whoo hoo!
Anyway hope everyone had a safe trip home, as I did, and best of luck to the teams still standing and their fans!

Valdosta was never in the game. All those South Georgia football comments were overrated and oversold. The Valdosta fans were rude and obnoxious. Most of them sat on the visitors side and talked a bunch of non-sense. The RAMS defense annihilated the Wildcats. Robert Nkemdiche sacked the QB 5 times!!!! It was a shut out in the rain 22. Go RAMS!

@ TS, which Cinderella season would that be? Peach County has been playing consistently exceptional football since 1990!

AAA hasn’t had a Cinderella team since Thomas County Central won state in 1992–reeling off 9 consecutive wins after starting 1-5. Who did they defeat that year? Yep, you guessed it: A 14-0 Peach County squad that featured seven D-I signees and two future NFL Pro Bowl players.

Hard to imagine anyone who’s even vaguely familiar with AAA football regarding Peach Co. as a Cinderella. They’ve won over 200 games in the past 20 years and have won 3 of the past 5 AAA state titles. Really, TS, where have you been to not have heard of Peach Co? Rivals.com has Peach Co. ranked as the #23 team in the entire nation. Seriously, TS, where have you been to not have heard of Peach Co? They’ve produced 7 NFL players in 30 years. Again, TS, where have you been to not have heard of Peach Co?

As a amateur AAA football historian, all I can say is that you either don’t get out much, don’t read much, or are extremely young and think that history began when you discovered the internet. What’s next, Brookwood and Lowndes are Cinderellas? C’mon Son, get your AAA game up!

ok region 1 had a bad night in south ga.valdosta & lowndes lost.but colquitt co won..im a colquitt co.fan..millcreek had a great season..take nothing awayfrom them,,but mill creek was never in the game…..if it wasnt for the 3 interceptions & the fumble we had in the 1st half,,we probably would of scored 50pts.we played a sloopy game & still won….mill creek didnt get on the score board until the 3rd quarter & it was a miscue on the packers…our punt returner couldnt handle the kickoff & mc.recovered at the packers 3yardline…that how they scored…so much 4 their pass happy offense..their 260lb fullback got shut down….just like the rest of the team did….we showed you tonight whos the best team in region 1 as a #3 seed…until you beat the packers..you hadnt accomplished NOTHING!!!!!get ready grayson…..we’re not valdosta…dont believe me…JUST ASK YOUR COACH….PACKERS ALL THE WAY

Its funny how all i have heard was about Kell vs East Paulding in the championship. Ive said all year that this is the best Tucker team ever. That saying alot stating that they won state two years ago and lost to Northside by 3 three years ago. They have a safety named Chris Sanders and he is commited to the University of Georgia. He is the best safety that i have seen in years. There fullback Bashr Coles is a monster. I looks like he will play for UCF but he should get some more offers at the end of the season.

Good game Starr’s Mill. Good luck next week.

Great year EP and looks like its going to be even better next. Looks like 2/3 of the team will be back next year and a JV team that went undefeated and only allowed 2 teams to score. Future looks even brighter.

Go Raiders.

And then there were four. On this night, with these teams, in these games, Gwinnett held its own. Three out of four Gwinnett teams move forward while one goes home. Grayson and Collins Hill came south and proved that they are not to be taken lightly while Mill Creek’s story book post season comes to an end. Brookwood wins over Hillgrove. Life, my friends is good!

We just got in from Valdosta where Grayson tamed the Wildcats 22-0. If you haven’t heard, we stopped in Adel and met the Colquit County coaches where Grayson won the coin toss. There will be no more gamed played in South Georgia this year in 5A as the Packers will be coming north for the rest of their season. More comments to come later today but I think I might read some of the previous posts then stagger to bed. :)

I am sticking to my story….in a supposedly down year, Region 15A still held its own with only 5 teams in the division and 3 making it to the quarters is an accomplishment to not hold your head down..or stay quiet on. I will give the Gwinnett supporters their props due for this round, but they have a ways to go to be considered the dominant region in Georgia and become a measuring stick like us down here….but they did take a step in the right direction last night.

Not sure about Lowndes for next year, but Valdosta is losing a ton of seniors and will most likely not be a serious contender next year, but who knows. Good Luck to all the remaining teams.

@TJ – Grayson was up 23-0 over NG and went into clock control mode. NG’s last score came with all of the Grayson players backing away from NG players that were upset and starting to lose their discipline. There was a lot of pushing and shoving and jawing going to the point the refs were getting in the middle. Grayson guys were backing up with their hands up to make sure they didn’t get ejected for fighting so they would be available this week. If you weren’t there, the TV did *not* effectively show what was going on. I was there and then came home and watched it on TV and it was like watching two totally different games.

@Touchdown T – So you don’t think the Grayson defense had anything to do with those turnovers? Tipped balls for interceptions – who tipped them? Unforced fumbles – think they heard footsteps and had to try to hurry the play? Grayson’s defense is the #1 D in 5A. Last week and tonight – oh, I guess it was last night now, the team believed they could play with anyone and proved they could. You team just got shut out and you say the Grayson defense is no good? Really?

@grayram -So at least for the rest of this year with the region 1 talk SSSSHHHHHH As maddball displayed, I believe your wish is premature. I plan to go back to the blog of this week prior to this one to document some of the lout mouths. People like you and me did NOT make predictions. We did NOT say what scores were going to be. We complimented the heritage of the teams from south of here, as well they deserve. And now some Gwinnett County “johnny come latelies” are mouthing off too. Won’t do our teams any good. Didn’t do THEIR teams any good either. Won’t do Colquitt County any good either. Good luck to Grayson and well done. Your coach is a class act all the way, and spoke at our church last year.
