Rankings: Brookwood moves to No. 4

Brookwood was the big mover this week in the rankings, moving to No. 4 after its victory over Grayson that probably will give the Broncos’ the title in Region 8-AAAAA.

Random thoughts as we move ahead …

Before anyone complains about Lowndes dropping only to No. 7 or ranking theee-loss Collins Hill over Woodstock, does anyone really have a handle on AAAAA? I don’t.

You rank Camden and North Gwinnett 1-2. Either order is fine. You rank Stephenson, Brookwood and McEachern 3-5. Any order is fine. After that, just pick ‘em from a hat.

On to our top story … Region championship games. These are fun. Who remembers the era from about 1975 to 1989 where almost every region held a region championship game in the 12th week of the season? Nowadays, 10 regions give us region title games in week 10.

This is the schedule I’ve got -

3-AAAA (Griffin vs. Starr’s Mill)
7-AAA (Allatoona vs. Ridgeland)
6-AA (Buford vs. Westminster)
5-A (ELCA vs. Wesleyan)
 8-AAA (Gainesville vs. White County)
2-AAAA (Brunswick vs. Statesboro)
3-AAA (Thomson vs. Burke County)
5-AAA (Cedar Grove vs. Grady)
7-AA (Calhoun vs. Rockmart)
8-AA (Elbert County vs. Fannin County)

Also, we have these regularly scheduled games that will decide titles:

The Newnan Stephenson game was great! No doubt about it, Stephenson is TOUGH! Coming from a Newnan Cougar both teams are very good and showed a lot of class.Region 2 can play with ANYONE in the state! The playoffs should be very interesting. Is Stephenson for real this year?..We shall see! Good luck to the Cougars, Jaguars, Indians, and Lions. Represent region 2 well!

Well said Football Fan. I agree with you…what a hard fought game between, in truth, fairly equal opponents. I thought it showed great sportsmanship of Newnan at the end of the game…quite a site…both teams gathered as near as I’ve ever seen to listen to their respective coaches post game talks. Newnan has a great program and are very nice hosts to visitors – win or lose.

If anybody wants to know how to beat Mceachern, just get the Harrison and MHS film. Harrison contained them on defense, and had many opportunities to complete passes on the Mceachern Defense. Harrison just doesnt have the athletes the Indians do. No way Mceachern makes it far this year.

Brookwood deserves that ranking. They have done a complete turn around and BROOKWOOD IS BACK fellas. Jamaal Cole and Nick Tomkins are electric and lethal in open space. Ben McLane is a Senior this year as a 3 year starter and knows how to win. Not to mention he has Andre Sims to throw to lol….Look i know Newnan is big but Brookwood pumps out MONSTERS over in Snellville. Every player looks like a grown man with a wife and three kids. Their Denfense, which is anchored by D-1 bound Cameron Lynch, swarms to the football. I love watching how fast this team is and the new found swagger they play with. VERY VERY deserving.

Agree with the rankings. Also 1 and 2 could switch. Would not count the Vikings out though. The Jags are playing the most focused football right now in AAAAA. Brookwood looks good. Camden seemed to have regained some focus. NG has chip on their shoulder from last year exit. Valdosta is scary good. Maceachern has the team to compete. The top 7 in AAAAA could all win it all. The bottom 3 has the potential, but I don’t see any cinderellas at this ball. No disrepsect to Etowah, Collins Hill or South Gwinnett, with the exception of Maceachern, 6 of the 7 are playoff tested tried and true. I have a feeling that whoever has defensive dominance will hoist the trophy.

So let me get this straight, Brookwood moves up 3 slots because they beat an unranked Grayson team. WOW! Everyone in the rankings but Brookwood got BEAT by a currently Ranked team, correct! The only logic I figure out is Gwinnett Love, geez. Think PPL!

Bulldawg 15

Touchdown T…Hey check out Brookwood before you run your mouth. Their just rankings and after Lowndes lost to Tift, they deserve to be where they are. It is a week by week poll that means nothing but is fun to look at.

I’m actually in the disctrict and I have checked them out so I guess I can continue to run my mouth. Just because you don’t see the Valdosta or McEachern teams play means they get punished in the rankings. I’m obvisoulsy a Valdosta fan and I always think a team should not get dropped or not moved up because of a bye.

Bulldawg 15

Deserving so let it go. Valdosta has not played a harder schedule than Brookwood. Look it up on Massey. Hung close with Valdosta and beat a good offensive MLK team. But it does hurt 1-AAAAA teams in rankings win all you have to do is win one game and your in. I would be mad too but the facts are facts.

Bulldawg 15

@Wolverine….only thing i can guess as to why they ranked Collins Hill over Woodstock is because Collins Hill just beat a ranked team 42-0, and beat Peachtree Ridge when they were ranked. Woodstock beat Newnan back when they were ranked but have not beat a ranked team since, like Etowah for example.

Well these are just rankings so in the end it doesn’t matter. But it does reflect on how our region is viewed. I’ve seen several games between the two teams and I think Valdosta is the better of the two. That’s my opinion just like the rankings.

I believe Starrs Mill is in Peachtree City (Fayette Cty).

Sandy Creek had one of the best QB I have seen in 2010 via running or passing. They had to go with a freshman QB against Fayette Cty High, a team they should have beaten easily— but struggled to a 10-0 score. I heard he is done for the season based on an infraction.

Does any one know the story?

@PSIndian First let me say congrats to Harrison for a hard fought game. They showed heart and determination as they fought for their playoff lives. Its funny when I see on this blog about how to contain or stop the Indian offense. Last time I checked losing by 18 isn’t what I will called stopped or contained. I guess its a credit to how well McEachern has played on offense this year. I assume that if they don’t put up their average of 40 plus on you then you have now contained them? The word CONTAIN means nothing to me unless followed by the word WIN! Great teams know there will be games that you won’t blow every team out. Great team always get the best competition. Great teams aren’t being scheduled on their opponents Homecoming! Good luck Harrison this week.

GHSF Daily- Your missing the region 5AAAA championship game between Kell and South Paulding, though if common sense is correct, Kell should handily beat an opponent that was outscored 88-14 by 3 opponents that Kell outscored 105-50.

Be watching for a very interesting playoff match-up in Round 2. Either Flowery Branch or Clarke Central will be coming to Kell for a match up of top 5 teams
