After finishing runner-up to Georgia Tech for star prospect, UGA has shot at his teammate

Milton's Dai-Jon Parker (AJC)

Milton's Dai-Jon Parker (AJC)

Georgia basketball coach Mark Fox finished as the runner-up to Georgia Tech in the sweepstakes for Milton High’s Julian Royal. However, the Bulldogs have a shot at one  of his heralded teammates.

Georgia is one of the finalists for shooting guard Dai-Jon Parker, who is also considering Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Rhode Island and Vanderbilt. Parker will announce his college decision on Nov. 5.

The 6-foot-4 Parker is considered one of the state’s best defenders, and covered the other team’s best offensive player during Milton’s state championship run last season. He is also known for thunderous dunks which can change the momentum of a game.

Georgia wants Parker to play both of the guard positions in college. Georgia Tech, which was once heavily recruiting Parker, is no longer involved.

Last week, Milton’s Royal committed to Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt over Georgia, while point guard Shannon Scott is a longtime commitment to Ohio State.

It’s obvious that you’re a basketball fanatic….but during football season? Only you and Royal & Parker’s Moms are interested about this now….and maybe Mark Fox.

For your information Prep Pigskin, lots of people are interested in basketball recruiting, especially in view of the shortcomings of the football team this fall. Parker would be a big catch and an important step to the dawgs becoming a regular in he NCAA tourney in the years ahead. It would be great to see the top GA guys stay home (even if some of them end up at Tech).

I am from Nashville. Alot of people around here think he will be a Commodore. What are you all hearing down in Atlanta?

whomever gets him is getting a BEAST. a man-child. If I had top pick of any of the heralded 6 (yes, 6) Milton D1 recruits, I would take Parker hands down. I go to Milton games to watch him play and Nolte shoot. Whatever Royal does is icing on the cake for the evening.

UGA might not get him but as an alum I’m just glad we’re now in the conversation for these players – during my time in Athens I suffered thru the last years of Hugh and watching him prance a 7 footer at the top of the key in that stupid motion offense of his…

This kid is an athlete not a basketball player. He is the kind of kid that Felton should have gone after, but way below the caliber of Fox’s recruits. He should’ve stuck with football, and I sincerely hope the Dawgs don’t waste a scholarship on him. The two best kids on Milton are Scott and Nolte.

GT Baby…because he can beat Tech in basketball as the Dawgs have the last couple of years. If he wants to change sports he can play football and beat Tech like the Dawgs have 8 of the last 9 years.

I’ve seen Milton play and I believe Parker is the best on their team. He will be the better college player out of all their recruits…I’m mean players.

UGA kids are not car jackers but two GT players( Joey Hamilton and Reuben the Sandwich Houston ) were arrested for dealing marijuana in 07 and GT’s # 37 attacked a girl and the APD dealt with him. GT’s DE Hall roughed up a girl. Shall I continue Baby??

YOu are not college material …………. I can tell.

Whoever says this kid is just an athlete and not a bball player knows ZERO about real bball talent. This kid is a once in a lifetime type of talent and is one of the most coach-able kids you will ever find. He will be a pro unless he has a major injury. He will be an immediate impact player on the division 1 level. I would bet anything on it!

BBALL EXPERT 1: I agree. It is true that he is a freak athlete. So much so that he IS a remarkable bball talent. Yes, he could have easily played D1 footbal for the same reason. But his real beauty surfaces on the basketball floor. And you are right, as I have mentioned in prior posts, the young man is very coachable and respectful. A class act with this talent very seldom comes down the pipe.

Expert, when you say pro, what exactly do you mean? There are professionals who rank these things, and he is not high in their rankings. Why else would Tech not be interested anymore. Cause he had a heck of a lot of potential as a 10th grader, and has not lived up to it. UGA is still offering cause they want to keep the pipeline open to try and get Nolte a year from now. HE is a great athlete I would love to have him on my high school team if I was a coach, but he will not be a star, much less a superstar at the next level.
