Georgia Tech vs. Georgia for Milton basketball star on Oct. 14

It will be Georgia Tech vs. Georgia for one of the nation’s top 100 college basketball prospects.

Milton High’s Julian Royal will announce between the two archrivals on Oct. 14 at his school.

Milton's Julian Royal (AJC)

“We’re going to say a few good things about Julian, and then allow him announce to the world if it’s going to be Georgia or Georgia Tech,” Milton coach David Boyd.

The 6-foot-9 power forward has already taken recruiting trips to both Georgia Tech and Georgia.

“It’s going to be a tough decision either way,” said his father, Charles Royal. “I went into the supermarket the other day, and I saw somebody I hadn’t seen in a while. He asked me about Julian and leaned into me and said ‘So where’s he thinking about going?’ I leaned back into him and said ‘I really don’t know.’

“There’s a lot of Georgia and Georgia Tech fans around the area, and everybody is giving Julian their opinions on where he should sign — which is fine. Julian is having fun with it.”

Now it’s YOUR turn. Where do you think Julian will sign? Please post below.

Go to the school that will serve you better in life. Both are good academic institutions. Just understand while basketball will get you a free education the odds are long that basketball will be your “job” when you get out of school. Make sure you choose the institution that will prepare you best for life.

Don’t be foolish and decide to go to UGA. This program will never be relevant. If they do well this year, Coach Mark Fox will be gone. Plus, who is the last UGA player to go to the NBA? Jarvis Hayes…yeah is career has been huge. Do yourself a favor and go to the ACC. SEC for football, but it’s ACC for hoops.

Mark Fox gone? I think not

This is not an original thought with me, but bears repeating. Over 50+ years, UGA has not had a coach leave of his own will outside of two. Tubby left for the arguably top college program of all time, and Ron Polk returned to Miss State where the baseball stadium is named for him. What this tells me is that UGA is a destination job, not a way station. UGA has as much money as anybody, and Greg McGarity will not let Fox get away.

**Possible exception- Kansas- his home state and one of top programs in the nation historically

Unless you want to a be a part of an athletics program that values a partying lifestyle, go to Tech. You’ll be a part of the best city in the states, and the best school of its kind within a 1000 miles.

Do not pick a school based on basketball factors unless you plan to be a “one and done”. If you plan to stay at least three years pick the place you want to be every day for the next 1000+ days.

I am a Tech fan, but if that piece of advice gets you UGA, then so be it.

Mark Fox gone? at 9:42 am.

I agree to a point.

Speaking just to basketball, there is a real problem at UGA re basketball. No support from the UGA grads. And until UGA starts putting grads into the seats for home games UGA basketball will continue to be a program that just does not matter in major college basketball.

And the shame is UGA has hired one of the best “up and coming” coaches in the nation. But UGA has had those before. And they all died on the vine as a result of no support from the grads. Last years game with Illinois at Gwinnett on a Saturday only put 3500 Dog fans in the seats. That is a disgrace and you know it.

In college basketball some things appear to be etched in stone. Duke is a basketball not a football school. Kentucky is a basketball not a football school. And UGA is a football school not a basketball school. Alabama is a football not a basketball school.

And so it goes.

spoken truly like someone who has never even been to a UGA basketball game. I personally attended 3 UGA games last year, all 3 of which were sold out. I don’t think there will be a problem with putting butts in the seats this year – season ticket sales are way up for this upcoming season.

dawgdawgdawg, the average attendance for UGA last year was 6834, roughly 65% sold on average. That ranks them 79th in the NCAA and 10th in the SEC. You may have been to some of the more popular games but in general, UGA does not have a very big basketball fan base.

You should choose the dawgs. People criticize UGA for having great football fans. However this should be a positive in your decision. It shows how passionate the fans are and the potential to follow the bball team with the same intensity. Further, most GT fans detest Paul hewitt and he will probably be fired in the near future. At UGA, the sentiment on campus and throughout alumni is that mark fox is here to stay. Then, check out what is happening after this year at UGA. Trey and Travis will probably be going pro, leaving a perfect scenario for you to shine with kentavious Caldwell. Please come to UGA. You will have the time of your life.

Collegeballfan: how ignorant you are. I went to UGA when Hugh Durham came…I went to the early games when only a few came..but once they started winning, UGA alumni and students did come and they had sell-outs. All it takes is winning and folks will come.

I think Julian will be a great addition to the GT Basketball team!

He will play early for a solid ACC team, obtain a stellar degree fro GT and play on a team that sends players to the NBA.

Good luck either way to the young man!

THUGA has a crowed front court. GT has a lack of big men and a ton of talent at guard to push the ball. If Julian wants frosh minutes where do you think he should go? GT has put a lot of big men in the NBA, THUGA has none in the NBA, where do you think he should go?

Kinda of like asking how many points do you get if you make a 3 point shot.

What?

UGA has a “crowded frontcourt”? Just last week you Nerds said UGA had a bunch of nobodies. UGA has more fans of basketball and football. GT has terrible fans all around and can only sell out the Big MacArena when they play UNC, Duke or UGA (and only because THOSE fans buy up the tix)!!! Why would he want to play for the worst bench coach in America in CPJ? Why would he want to have Nerds wearing stupid piss colored wigs bopping up and down to the Budweiser song rooting their Jackettes on? GT = joke.

And while GT was playing in the ACC title game and the NCAA tourney Fox was sitting his a** on the couch watching. UGA sucks so bad in football they think their actually good in basketball after going 14-17. LMAO Julian needs to come to GT and play with some REAL talent and become an NBA player like so many others that have come from the flats.

Mark Fox is building something great and exciting at UGA. Playing at UGA will give Julian a true college experience, living away from home. But, he will still be close enough for family and friends to come watch him play.

I am neither a Tech or a Jawja supporter and have no horse in this race. Based on how the local yahoos criticize Coach Hewitt and his players, I say go to Jawja. The program is up and coming and the pressure to win in B ball is not as great with the alumni. Football is king there. Besides, the campus is beatiful and the girls are too.

All the best to Julian! He will do well at UGA or GA Tech. I would like to see the day when pep rallies/press conferences/assemblies are held for honors students who gain academic scholarships to attend college. We need to celebrate the accomplishments of all of our high achievers.

Only reason THUGA is better than us at football is because we have STANDARDS in our student-athletes, we don’t recruit just anybody than can play football. Caleb king had to transfer from Parkview to GACS just because he couldn’t pass the Gateway…The Gateway?? I’m pretty sure I passed that freshman year of high school. And UGA signed him immediately. That is exactly why y’all have 11 arrest this year and are 1-4 and not even going bowling this season. Atleast y’all have a decent basketball teams this year…
