St. Pius defeated Collins Hill 14-11 for the Georgia High School Water Polo Association Championship on Sunday.
It was the third state championship in four years for St. Pius, which won Tuesday’s title in an overtime shootout.
St. Pius’ Kevin Hughes was named tournament MVP.
“This is by far the highest level of play we’ve seen in the four years of the [GHSWPA],” St. Pius coach Dan Rogaczewski said. “Not just from Collins Hill and St. Pius, but from every single team in the league. Everyone demonstrated noticeable improvement.”
Water polo is not a GHSA-sanctioned sport, but growing in popularity among high schools.

Water polo, a “fake” sport is sure a lot harder and more fun to watch than many “real” sports.

Congratulations to Pius!! Winning any State associated title is great for the young men of St. Pius!! It may not have been football, basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis, Track & Field, Wrestling, LaCrosse, Chess, Cheerleadiing, or Swimming… but still an achievement none the less!!
