The state’s class of college basketball prospects for 2012 is shaping up to be one of the best in years.
Georgia Tech and UGA appear to be intrigued by Northview High’s Kyle Meyer, the 6-foot-10 junior who can play power forward or center.
Along with Georgia Tech and UGA, Clemson, Florida, Indiana and Drake have also stopped by Northview to observe the big guy. Meyer has early scholarship offers from Iowa, East Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Mercer.
Meyer said he thinks that Georgia Tech may have a little more interest in him than UGA, but that if he was eventually to get scholarship offers from the archrivals, that he would probably favor the Bulldogs.
“Georgia Tech is probably not a possibility because I’m not interested in anything engineering-related as a college major,” said Meyer, who wants to study sports medicine.
“Right now, I wouldn’t consider Georgia Tech or Georgia as a primary school. I’m looking at out-of-state schools … I’d say Iowa, East Carolina and Clemson are my top three.”
Meyer averaged 14 points last year as a sophomore at Northview.
