Macon will be the site for a three-game high school football all-star tournament among teams from Georgia, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina following the 2011 season, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame announced Tuesday.
The event, called the Georgia Invitational Football Classic, will have semifinal games Dec. 29, 2011, and a championship game Dec. 31, 2011, at the Ed DeFore Sports Complex.
Each of the four state teams will consist of top uncommitted senior prospects. Georgia’s coach will be C.B. Cornett, who won a state title at Macon County in 1996. He now is the linebackers coach at Westside of Macon.
The objective of the games is to give uncommitted seniors a chance to play in front of college coaches.
The sponsors of the game are Optimus Energy Drinks and the Macon-based Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
