WT, true, although this is not the season I would have picked to take on Camden, not after the way you beat the #2 team in the country a few weeks back. However, it sounds as though you get a lot of people back next year, so next year would not be a good year to have to play you either. In fact, this is probably just a bad decade to collide with Camden!

Lowndes and Camden each draw from a military installation set in otherwise typical South Georgia communities, so each school gets a mix of local and military kids who add a great deal of diversity to the student body. My experience at Lowndes was that the best (and worst! -ha) kids were the ones from Moody Air Force Base. With all those Navy students stirring the pot, no wonder Camden is such a dynamic high school.

Kell won again, 30-7 over #6 ranked Hiram. I know there are certain factors that you guys put in for ranking teams, and I honestly wouldn’t be able to do it myself. But considering strength of schedule, shouldn’t Kell be considered the top team in AAAA? Their opponents have only lost 1 game outside of their losses to Kell, and all of those teams have flirted with top ten spots if they weren’t in it. I know none of the teams ahead of Kell have lost either, and I’m not trying to take away from those teams (nothing matters till playoffs anyways), but they seem to be playing alot of weaker opponents.

Thanks valdosta fan.. Valdosta’s improving every week, they could wind up unbeaten in the regular season this year, will certainly hit the playoffs running…

Pop, no such thing as an unstoppable offense, especially one made up of 17 year olds. Lowndes had a raft of holding calls tonight that killed opportunities and promising drives, and the O-Line could not consistently stop the Ware D-Line, so the Gators got a lot of penetration. Also, Ware was probably the fastest D Lowndes faced so far, so Lowndes could not get around them on the outside.

They’ll have to do better when they hit the region games.

Marist beats Carver 39-13. It was 32-6 at the half, and then the Marist team shut down. Marist dominated the first half, with Carver having only one real drive and Marist offense moving the ball at will. In the second half, Marist had several turnovers, including one fumble returned for a td by Carver. I was really surprised this game was not closer, given how well Carver had played against some other good teams.

Just got in from Ware County. Ware defense played about as well as you could. Total offense for Lowdnes 123 yds, and 120 yds for Ware. That is total pass and run. I was not impressed with Lowndes, the speed and ability to get on the edge does not seem to be there on offense. Defense for Vikes is the strength. Ware has a good defense, but they have no offense. The QB for Ware has issues. If they could generate just a little offense, with that defense, they will give a lot of teams problems. The Vikes have a lot of work to do, their offense is not where it needs to be going into region play. Up until that run at halftime, Ware kept Lowndes their side of the 50. Lowndes had terrible field position most of the 1st half. Returned the favor to Ware in the 2nd half. There was no excitement to this game at all.

Reeze: How much, if any, was Northside & HoCo affected by Veterans opening. I know Warner Robins lost 35 players, the OC & DC. They now know how Gwinnett County schools (Collins Hill, Duluth, Dacula, Central Gwinnett, South Gwinnett, etc) feel when they lose students/players to a new school opening. I know other metro schools have the same issue, but I am not as familiar with the other metro schools as I am with Gwinnett.

Very proud of the Longhorns! Kell wins their 5th in a row against some of the top teams in AAAAA and AAAA. I agree with others, if there is another team in AAAA that has played a more difficult schedule and deserves to be #1 more than Kell, I don’t know who it is…

Glad to see that Lowndes has stopped putting pedal to the metal to run up the score on weaker opponents in lower divisions. Oh wait. It was a road game! That probably was pedal to the metal for Lowndes on the road. At least the coaching staff showed why you should almost never take points off the board. I can’t wait to hear the excuses for this one.

Kell and Flowery Branch continue to roll. Those look like 2 very tough teams to me. And Roswell is making a comeback despite a slow start against tough opponents.

The pounding in 7AAAAA will start soon as the top teams jockey for division position.

Good luck against St. Thomas Aquinas, Camden.

I have just seen the most incompetent crew of officials of any (and it’s been a bunch) high school football game – EVER. Grady Stadium was the site of the travesty.

And, before you think I’m whining – St. Pius won so I have no loss to blame someone for.

It’s difficult to imagine how a crew of paid (and I will NOT use “professional”) referees could be so bad. Consequently, I’m left to assume that they were actively conspiring to influence the outcome of the game. No, never mind. I don’t think they had the brains to pull that off.

AVikingFan: GHSA provides good training for its officials with clinics, video training and written exams. You are right as the offiials need to be in position to make a call but you may not be aware of what that position is and what keys they have to watch during that play. One of the biggest problems with high school football is that the fans, parents and even some coaches watch too much football on Saturdays & Sundays and those rules are totally different than Friday night rules. Yes there is a horse collar rule but the rule states that certain criteria must be in palce before it can or can’t be called. It is a NFHS rule that pants must cover the knees to protect injuries just as all 4 buckles on the chin strap must be buckled. The one blog did not make sense as a penalty for illegal block in the back was nothing more than a hard tackle?? Explain that as they are two different things. High school officials try do an excellent job of officiating a game but yes there is an occasion where a call may be missed. If the official does not see the entire foul then he is trained not to call it at all. A fan sits in the stand and watches 22 players running around while the officials key on one to three players at a time. A game is not lost on an officials call but lost some where during the 48 minutes of play. If a coach teaches his players the correct fundamentals of the game, the players play the game based on the correct fundamentals then why is there a need for officials? I am sure that GHSA is always looking for more officials to replace some of the older ones that are retiring. By the way, game films are reviewed for bad calls by GHSA. How is the game supposed to be played…”come on ref you have to call that”,”hey ref you blew that call”, “come on ref let the boys play” or “it was not a block in the back but just a hard tackle”? As someone posted…losers whine and winners go home with prom queens. I like the comment that although he thought it was bad calls by the officials it was still the team that lost the game because of non-tackling.

Sgt Chris, did the opening of Callaway take any of Pardue’s potential players?
Seems logical but asking cause don’t know. I LEFT the game last night at 21 to zip cause it looked like Lagrange would blow Shaw out. then listened on radio to total meltdown and was shocked. Amazing what a few TDs and just a little bit of confidence will do to a group of kids, might turn em into a team. Course ole Dell got all Shaw’s would be stars on the magic bus to Carver a la the Charles Flowers system of cruitin. Carver is really the “Muscogee County All Stars”. I do love to watch em anyway

g-lion: you’ll be interested in this one, too. i watched the marist/carver game on ghsa tv. i saw the refs throw a warning flag on the carver coaching staff. the marist staff was out of the coaching box, arguing with officials, and on the field the entire time. there was one dark haired coach, very short man, who was constantly on the field and out of the box during game play. guess what? no call on marist at all. their coaches have consistently shown some of the worst sportsmanship of any i have seen. we usually don’t see marist until the playoffs, but i have seen enough game film and televised games to gauge that in my 40+ years of football. i’m not saying that’s why marist won, but the refs should really watch that sideline on them and call it both ways. by the way, i’m not a carver fan so no anger.

Reeze…you cannot say any one has played a more difficult schedule in AAAA or AAAAA (BTW…Grayson is still one of the best teams North, South, East or West)and as far as playoff time for our regions, I believe Roswell played for a state championship just a couple of years ago and East Paulding was in the Semi-Finals. You are right though, who ever wins it all this year will have to take it…

Suwannee Ownz, why so spiteful? Lowndes doesn’t deserve your venom, they just play good football within the rules, have an excellent feeder system, and when they get ahead, they flood the field with clean jerseys, which is part of how they get continuity of success from one year to the next. But if the other team collapses in the first or second quarter, you can’t expect any team to rest its starters just one quarter into the game, they can’t improve if they don’t play. Anyway, I recommend more even-handedness (lots of teams score points in buckets including some you praised)… Also, relaxing might help, maybe through yoga, or aromatherapy… :-)

Marist got a sideline warning which is what they got for being past the designated player and coach box. After the warning ,the Marist cOaches were in this box when the ball was snapped. Get your facts straight before you slam an officiating crew. Marist has also been thought ofas one of the teams with the best sportsmanship in the region and state.

SouthGArules…………Warner Robins decline has a little to do with the opening of veterans ,but I think it has more to do with the present coach there…….I never really bought into the Gwinette excuse of the watering down of talent because of school openings…….CollinsHill 3400 plus students , Central Gwinette 2700 plus , Dacula 2300 plus , S Gwinette 2600 plus Duluth 2000….. If you combine the Northside and Warner Robins high schools , combined maybe 200 students more than Collins Hill’s 3400……I think you once said you were from the Warner Robins area .Imagine the talent if you were to combine these two schools……Hoco was hit much harder than Warner Robins , inspite of the drop in student population , I think they have a better team than last years squad.

Papa Longhorn 4……….Kell has played some decent squads , I really don’t know what Grayson has this year and anyway an early season win or loss don’t hold much water with me…….The other wins Kell has had were against good squads…….Kell defeats Camden yes #1 , Kell defeats Pridge, yes #1, Tucker or NSWR yes #1…………Woodstock , EP , and Etowah not even under consideration.
