UGA is a finalist for one of the state’s top college basketball prospects, and making a run at one of his teammates.

Milton High shooting guard Dai-Jon Parker has an in-home visit this week with UGA coach Mark Fox. UGA, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest are the three finalists for Parker’s heralded teammate, power forward Julian Royal. Both are ranked among the nation’s top 100 players.

“Coach Fox likes [Parker's] athleticism, he likes that he can shoot it, and he likes the fact that he’s a winner … everywhere Dai-Jon goes, his teams win,” said his AAU coach, Kenny Loyd of the Georgia Netburners.

“I think Coach Fox believes he can learn from the current point guard and be a good player there. They think he can get in the rotation relatively quickly if he goes to Georgia.”

The 6-foot-4 Parker has taken recruiting trips to Vanderbilt and Florida State (last weekend). He has official visits scheduled to Oregon State on Friday and Charlotte in October. He has traveled to Georgia so many times over the years he is unlikely to use one of his visits to Athens, but it won’t affect his consideration of the Bulldogs.

Parker is one of the state’s best defenders. He also has above-average range on his outside shot, while also being known for his spectacular dunks that can provide game-changing momentum. He and Parker helped Milton High win last year’s state championship in Georgia’s largest classification.

Parker seems like the type of player who will be a big part of the fastest rising basketball program in the South. Fox is building something special. UGA is being considered by the top players.

Parker: Go to UGA and be a home state hero with a coach that can actually coach you up.

No one has signed anything yet. But with that said, CMF is obviously working his ‘behind’ off. The same people who didn’t like this hire, will be the first to ‘fret’ when more established basketball programs come calling.

It is clear this guy will build a solid program. It might happen quickly, it might be three/four years. UGA needs to go back and ‘up’ the contract now and build in a ‘nasty’ buy out clause.

Kevin – I see right through you…. closet Tech Nerd trying to make UGA ventors look like racist red necks won’t work…. I know you are hoping Parker sees your comments, gets mad, and writes UGA off his list but he isn’t going to Tech because Hewitt is one more losing year and done. UGA has a great coach and showed that he can’t get a lot out of his players. He is a great teacher and Parker would benefit from his knowledge. UGA will be in the sweet 16 this year and Tech will be at home.

Even if we don’t get these guys, I think it’s still a step ahead for UGA – Felton couldn’t even get guys like the Milton players to give him the time of day.

This probably pains your Homerdog Carvell, but he’s very interested in Georgia Tech too. But you won’t find that in this article.

@Sven, Georgia Tech is no longer recruiting Dai-Jon Parker, and Dai-Jon Parker is no longer interested in Georgia Tech, according to his coaches. They went in different directions awhile back.

If he wants to finish last in the crappy SEC every year UGA would be a great place for him.

He should go to Vanderbilt. He will be “coached up there”, he will win there, he will enjoy it there. They just got one of the best PG’s in the nation. He should join him in this class and really make an impact. If he stays home, great, but if he doesn’t, I hope he goes to Vanderbilt.

oh yeah, and even tho you could learn to deal with little attitude from a sheer talent like djon, you don’t have to. He appears to be very coachable and respectful of the game. Somebody’s gonna be lucky to have him on campus. Same with Nolte. Royal also a very nice kid. sometimes too nice. would love to see a little smoke coming out of his nostrils occasionally. c’mon 2010 season! Repeat.
