TD Club of Atlanta to honor Allatoona’s Varner, MLK’s Robinson, Apalachee’s Hill

M.L. King wide receiver Demarco Robinson, Apalachee lineman Shaun Hill and Allatoona coach Gary Varner are the winners of the Touchdown Club of Atlanta’s weekly awards.

Robinson, the back of the week, caught 10 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns in a 43-36 victory over Collins Hill last week. Robinson had four touchdowns receiving the previous week in a 44-41 loss to South Gwinnett.

Hill, the lineman of the week, blocked for an offense that rushed for more than 500 yards in a 52-35 loss to Flowery Branch. Hill was a first-team all-state offensive lineman in 2009 for Apalachee’s Region 8-AAAA championship team.

Varner, the coach of the week, has Allatoona 3-0 for the first time in its three-season history. Allatoona, which has a showdown this week in Region 7-AAA against Dalton, has wins over previously state-ranked Ridgeland and Cobb County rival Kennesaw Mountain.

The honorees will be recognized at noon Monday at the Touchdown Club’s weekly meeting at Fox Sports Grill in Atlantic Station. The guest speaker will be former Tennessee and Pittsburgh head coach Johnny Majors. The program, sponsored by the Army, can be seen live at www.touchdownclubofatlanta.com at 12:25 p.m.

No disrespect to the Allatoona program. Their accomplishment is well deserved. I however would like to point out that Coach Heath Webb’s team, North Paulding Wolfpack is 3-0 and it’s only in it’s third year as well. We played a varisty schedule last year with only Juniors and Sophmores and went 5-5. So please throw some honors Coache Webb’s way as well.

Yes, and North Paulding has decided to dodge Allatoona in every sport this year? Go figure. The coaches have said the AD at NP has told them he absolutely does not want them playing Allatoona.

The AD at NPHS has requested we not play Allatoona in sports because of an assault on one of our players after a 7 on 7 over the summer that landed him in the hospital. The rivalry was no longer friendly and after numerous altercations it was a good call on his part.
