First, let’s say there’s no shame in beating Whitewater in close game. Whitewater believes it has its most talented team yet this year. But Sandy Creek-Peach County was nearly a toss-up for the No. 1 ranking in preseason, and a 20-0 victory over Warner Robins is pretty convincing. So let’s put Peach County at No. 1. …
In other news, Georgia swept Alabama in the North Gwinnett double-header, with North Gwinnett and Grayson winning. Also note that Carrollton routed a pretty good Alabama team in Oxford. Eagle’s Landing Christian blew out Florida state champion North Florida Christian.
If not for South Panola hanging 65 points on Colquitt County, we’d have a full round of Georgia football breast-beating today.
I’m eager to see North Gwinnett vs. Crenshaw (Calif.) and Camden County vs. Central Miami (#2 team in USA Today) this week.
Here’s a wrapup of the changes in the rankings this week:
AAAAA – Collins Hill beat Roswell and took Roswell’s place in the Top 10.
AAAA – North Clayton back in, Warner Robins out.
AAA – Peach County jumps Sandy Creek. Carrollton and Ridgeland replace Washington County and Gainesville. St Pius drops five spots.
AA – Callaway replaces Hart County, which tied Franklin County in a lightning-shortened game.
A – Darlington and Holy Innocents’ replace Bowdon and Greenville.

Valdosta has an UNDER-whelming victory against a AA school and gets ranked?? I guess enough whinning from Whinnersville helps. Or maybe there aren’t 10 AAAAA schools that haven’t lost a game yet?? Oh well, enjoy it while you can because it will not last long. GA needs to go to a Top 5 this year because there aren’t 10 good teams in AAAAA.

It might be a long season for the WR Demons. The coach has his STALLIONS on the sidelines grazing. He’s obligated to run with the booster club shetland ponies. They look like a bad private school.

North Gwinnett is 3-0. I don’t care if 2 of them were considered “scrimmages”, they still have beat Lassiter, Grayson, and Bob Jones in real games, with real officials….so therefore, they are 3-0.

Us down here in fort valley are not concerned about the rankings right now, we are going to just play football and let the chips fall like they may. We are going to get after any team that lines up opposite side of us. We know what it takes to be a champion and week 1 is not the answer, we have to keep getting better each week. We did show how good we can be so boys lets strive to get better each week. Lets Go PC!

Lowndes won and had 4 touchdown passes! Mannnnn, how long has it been since Lowndes has 4 td passes in one game???! (Lowndes did win this year’s Valdosta State Passing tournament that had 28 teams competing!) We will definetly find out this week at McEachern what kind of team we have. After two games we surely as not as good as we were either of the last two years.
Doesn’t look like NSWR has missed a beat with the new coach who replaced Coach Nix. And NG really looks strong. So does Tucker, Buford, and Carver Columbus. The guy obviously is wrong about there being only five good teams in AAAAA. But I know one thing, we don’t have five good teams in 1-AAAAA!! Coffee and Tift, uhhh! Colquitt????
Valdosta, big, strong, fast, experienced. Really good. Lowndes, small, fast, playing a lot of sophomores, above average overall, good but not great. Can’t wait to see McEachern Friday.

Im really excited about the games this week because McEachern-Lowndes could be a potential late playoff matchup, Camden plays the #2 ranked team in the nation this week and North Gwinnett plays Crenshaw who i have seen as highly ranked as # 13 in the nation. These should all be great games that will improve all teams involved. I will say the depth is down this year in AAAAA, Stephenson struggled with a Parkview program that is fading into oblivion and Grayson is rebuilding. Nonetheless this year will be another great year of high school football

I know that both Byrnes (SC) and Hoover (AL) have played Georgia teams as early non-conference games in the past. I was disappointed to see them play each other and not a Georgia team this week.
It looks like Grayson, NG, Camden, PRidge are doing their best to seek out tough non-conference opponents. But what about our vaunted 1AAAAA powerhouses? Brooks County? Pebblestone? OMG! Come on guys, you’re not going to get better playing opponents like that. I guess it gives the bands and cheerleaders another week to warm up.

If Clarke Central can work out a couple of kinks in their passing game and cut down on the turnovers, they’re going to be pretty tough.
Their second half against Cedar Shoals was mostly sloppy, but it looked fixable. They were up 20-0 within 3:30 of the quarter and before CS ran their fifth play. This was after CS got the opening kickoff.
Valdosta’s mostly been nice to smaller teams, so it’s hard to say 35-0 against Brooks is indicative of any lack of talent. They give me an uneasy vibe, though. There are a good many underlying factors in Valdosta football that have hurt the program and have made it difficult for them to get any traction at all.
Not ratings related, but keep an eye on Colquitt County. I’m predicting a meltdown, or at least some serious fireworks. Not from the boosters. Not from the fans, but from the sideline.

Legend of Len Barker let me inform you that Valdosta is gaining traction. I have not seen this kind of excitement here since the days of Hyder. We had two clowns for coaches in Darlington and Tomberlin. Rance Gillespie is the real deal. We may not win a game the rest of the year, but I can tell you for a fact that he is building a program from the ground up. He is building for the long haul. He has a long term vision and is relenteless in his work ehtics. Traction has been gained and the people that support Valdosta footballknow that they have finally hired the right man. If you could watch Valdosta this year then you would no doubt get “good” vibes after watching them. They are stacked with talent and finally they are well coached. Give Gillespie time and he will build a winner!

Grayson Rams I assume that what you are using as grounds to refer to the Lowndes program as classless is what happened in the playoffs in 2008. I was not at Lowndes at that time but I do remember watching it on tv. I am now at Lowndes and I consider that incident an embarrassment to the program and to our whole school. Regardless, let me say that what happened that night does in no way reflect the program now or our student body. I cant say that I always agree with Coach McPherson but he is generally know to be a kind man and he is a great football coach. He came under fire for his reaction (or lack there of) to his players actions. What wasnt seen on television was what happened in the locker room and back at the school. Its been 2 years, and I know people at Lowndes still talk trash about it too, but dont you think its time to let it go? I have much respect for the Grayson program and find it disturbing and highly unnecessary that Lowndes and Grayson fans and players have to bad mouth each other every chance they get.

”Grady High looked good..need to be ranked next week.”
Grady is unranked, but not unnoticed.
“Tucker beat southwest dekalb 50-19 y did they not move up.”
The teams ahead of Tucker are Northside (2009 AAAAA runner-up), Clarke Central (2009 AAAA runner-up) and Griffin (13-1 last year). Plus, SWD was unranked. I know SWD is SWD, but not the same SWD as last season. Don’t get me wrong. Can Tucker win state? Of course. The top four is just very solid in AAAA.
“North Gwinnett is 3-0. I don’t care if 2 of them were considered “scrimmages”, they still have beat Lassiter, Grayson, and Bob Jones in real games, with real officials….so therefore, they are 3-0.”
If someone can supply us with the scores of the 200 preseason scrimmages that were played, we might consider updating W-L records. But the way I see it, if the scores weren’t reported to the GHSA, they aren’t real.

trojans94 while i know your question wasnt for me i think that north and pridge always have a chance to upset lowndes or camden. I myself am a North grad but i think that pridge has a better chance of beating those teams than north does. pridge defense is used to practicing against the same exact of football that lowndes and camden play. tough smashmouth football mixed with a little passing. north is more of a finesse team. all four teams are solid year in and out but i would think until the gwinnett teams beat the south ga teams were underdogs every game. its not impossible by any stretch but we should never underestimate those teams

North Gwinnett is as tough as they get from the looks of things. I can not speak on what I have not seen yet South Georgia. North Gwinnett stomped Grayson a good one in scrimage. Took out the QB for the Kell game leaving Grayson with #2 QB. Grayson is rebuilding but I do not see another loss comming their way for awhile. Only Brookwood and South Gwinnett look like bumps that could or should topple them. Needless to say Grayson will make another run of it late and at least will make Sweet Sixteen. I think the top 3 are solid in top 10 but order is debateable. Think from what I have seen that Stephenson should not be ranked………..plug in South Gwinnett if the beat MLK. MLK if they beat South Gwinnett.

The GHSA is going to regret not putting Camden Co. in 1(5A) by the end of the season. They will probably be embarassed for not using some common sense and logic, and foresight. With only 5 teams remaining in that region (1) four of those teams will go to the playoffs and at least one or two will most likely have a losing record. THAT is pathetic! CCHS must have either a connection or lots of “pocket change” to feed somebody. They are basically playing a “junior varsity” schedule by playing those Savannah schools, with one or two games out of the state that have no effect on their region record. So what if they had to travel a little farther. They have been getting off easy for years by not having to travel. They will probably win the state title again, and I know why whether anyone else does or not. That is a “farce” that needs to be remedied. BTW, that is the most points ever scored on a Colquitt Co. team(65) by Panola MS, and the most points total(100) ever scored in their stadium. Coach Propst will first rip all his hair out(does he have any?) and then have all the players rip up that new artificial turf they just installed. It looks pretty but it makes “faster horses” out of a “fast horse” team, i.e. South Panola MS High School. He probably scheduled that game at noon on Saturday hoping he would be one of the TV high school games for the weekend (loves the spotlight) but better be happy now he wasn’t as that would have been embarassing!

I really don’t feel that Warner Robins (AAAA) should have been dropped out tof the top 10 completely. This years Peach squad ( AAA) with the talent they have this year 19 returnees from their 2009 championship squad ,will go 15-0 and would defeat the majority of your top 10 teams in AAAA and AAAAA ……… I guess the reason the Demons dropped out was due to a loss to a squad from a lower class , If so , why is St Pius still ranked after losing to Westminster?

“You Have to be Kidding!!” whats your deal with smashing Valdosta? You should probably stop whining yourself….it makes you sound bitter. Okay I’ll admit that Valdosta played a rather trivial Brooks county, but think of it like this…..with the exception of Camden, region 3-AAAAA is easily the worst region in the state. Brooks county would most definitely beat some of those pathetic teams in that region. ALSO….with region 1-AAAAA down to 5 teams, its a little hard to schedule non-region games with tough opponents….you have to go with what you get. Valdosta is still playing a formidable Florida team this year. And for everyone else coming down on region 1-AAAAA…..chill out. Teams have bad years….that’s how life goes (sorry Tifton and Coffee). As for Colquitt….well they got too much hype. With their new coach and their ONE YEAR of success, the publicity engulfed them. Remember….they won like 3 games 2 years ago. Its a shame…..Lowndes or Valdosta would have easily put up a much better fight against that Mississippi school.

TTTT: Let it go. Everyone complains about where Camden plays football. I don’t see any schools lining up to get on the non-region schedule. Camdne played in the Kell Kickoff Classic every year until this year, when it became a Gwinnett/Cobb Classic. Can’t blame the organizer when you start looking at atendance. Even though Camden travels with 5-6 thousand folks. Maybe mor. Had an opportunity to watch that classic this year and the excitement in the dome was not the same. Really did not notice a jump in attendance. Either way Camden is a Great program no matter where you place them. Miami Central come to town friday, sellout already. 1 Oct, they travel to Ft Lauderdale to face Aquinas. These two games will be dynamic. Watched Central, they mirror Camden, except they throw more, but they have a dynamic back. It seems that their coach was seeking the toughest teams to prepare Camden for the playoffs. This also puts Georgia football back in the spotlight where it belongs. North Gwinnett plays Crenshaw this week, should be a classic. We really need to move on from where teams play and talk football.

CannonRules: Don’t get too loud on here about our Raiders yet. They looked pretty good on offense against an over matched opponent in South Paulding. Defensively, against the run they look pretty decent, but they seemed extremely lost in the secondary. Open receivers all night that the QB could not get the ball too, or if he did, the receivers couldn’t seem to catch it. Very scary to see that many receivers running free. Also on the WR screen,,,,,,,giving them 8-10 yard cushions? What is that?,,,,,,,,,,I’m definitley a fan, but lets keep the bravado down until they’ve been tested. From what I’ve seen,,,North Paulding, will be able to throw the ball all over the field on our Raiders with there two D1 wideouts and Sr QB who can both throw the ball and run when needed. Temper that enthusiasm.

Not exactly Antball. Some higher classified teams are weak and some lower classified teams are strong. For instance Washington County (A I believe) and Fitzgerald (AA) can play with the AAA and AAAA schools. The classification is by student population but the teams are still determined by the athletes on it. A 400 sized school may have as good or better athletes than a 4,000 sized school…

‘’I really don’t feel that Warner Robins (AAAA) should have been dropped out tof the top 10 completely. This years Peach squad ( AAA) with the talent they have this year 19 returnees from their 2009 championship squad ,will go 15-0 and would defeat the majority of your top 10 teams in AAAA and AAAAA ……… I guess the reason the Demons dropped out was due to a loss to a squad from a lower class , If so , why is St Pius still ranked after losing to Westminster?’’
Good question, Reeze. Just consider that Warner Robins was shut out and didn’t come close to winning. The SPX-Westminster game went down to the final minute.
“Worth County should be # 10 in AAA. They beat Fitzgerald 32-26 who previously had beaten the defending AA champs Wilcox County and Tift County (AAAA power).”
Maybe so. But I’d be more inclined to drop Fitzgerald from the AA Top 10 than add Worth to the AAA Top 10. Great win for Worth, though.
‘’Where is Bremen in the A rankings? They are 2-0, have beaten (decisively) 2 AAA schools! Where is the respect!’’
Bremen is getting close.
“Regarding North Gwinnett – are you saying Bob Jones wasn’t considered a regular season game? Wow.”
The scrimmage that Bob Jones and North Gwinnett played a year or two ago was not a regular-season game. The game played Saturday was. This year’s North Gwinnett-Grayson game was a scrimmage and not a regular-season game. We had NG’s record wrong at 1-0 and not 2-0 because we neglected to update it with the Saturday games, but it’s fixed now.

First, I have not seen Carver Columbus play and being a Brookwood fan and in Gwinnett, I am definitely biased and can not see any team in Buford’s classification staying with 2 td’s of them so I would have to say it will be about Buford 40 and Carver Columbus 26 (maybe I will get a chance to see Carver Columbus play at some point which could change my opinion). Regarding North Gwinnett vs. Crenshaw, I have been out west visiting relatives and seen some teams out there and they have speed. Should be an interesting game. I will be pulling for both North Gwinnett and Camden. I would love to see Camden play some tough competition in state but it is what it is. They could play teams whose overall record is 0-110, but when all is said and done Camden does still win the big games against strong teams both in and out of state. So I can’t hold it against them for what the rest of their region does. I’m looking forward to Brookwood vs. Collins Hills. I don’t see many teams in region 7 5A play, but have seen Peachtree Ridge and North Gwinnett over the past 3 or 4 years and have been thoroughly impressed. Lowdnes as usual still looks very strong. I’m looking forward to seeing other teams play in the Metro area, including Newnan.

Oh I agree one game DOES NOT A SEASON MAKE…BUT…the boys looked good against Chapel Hill in the scrimmage game, then won the opener with the “D” shutting down South Paulding…and the score could have been even larger if we had the TD back the penalty took from us.
I also noticed the open receivers but I think the coaches will get that corrected as the season goes forward. I thought we had a “decent” home opener and from what North Paulding did to Paulding County we should be OK for this week vs. Paulding County.
Then we get Douglas County who just loss to Hiram 24 / 0 so with a bit of luck the RAIDERS could be 3 & 0 heading to the game vs. KELL (who beat Grayson) Win that one and THEN that’s when I was saying it would be time for a bit of AJC recognition, SOOOOOOOOOOOO…

RealisticEP – Good review. East has a strong-armed QB and some speed but the D, despite the shutout, gave up some yards (saved by fumble on their 3). They should benefit from a couple more soft opponents early then Kell. This may be a playoff team but that’s about all. BTW, It would be more accurate to say Grayson lost to Kell rather than Kell beat them. Grayson beat themselves with turnovers in a game they were domninating.

Regarding Camdem Co and the region they play in, I think it is a wash. They do play some over matched teams and benefit by not getting beat up too badly and getting all of their players quality playing time. The flip side of that is that it is tough to prepare for the stronger competition and the physical demands of the bigger teams. They wind up having to play the first team longer and they might not be as physically durable.
In any event, they play where they play and it makes total sense when you look at the complete athletics picture. They have quality programs and strong support as evidenced by how well they travel.

kb, your 2:15pm post is probably right on the mark. VSU played a part in the TitleTown thing also, but it was mainly all those titles won by your Cats. It will be interesting to see what ya’ll do with those 35 seniors Rick Tomberlin won all those Bigger, Faster, Stonger contests with. Right now though, all I can see is that score board from last year, ya’ll losing 57-15 with Valdosta walking off the field without using their timeouts! Your mighty Cats left 4 time outs on the board in both halves combined and got beat. That said “No MAS!” They quit!
Before the season started I predicted 1-AAAAA would end in a 3 way tie for 1st place. It can still happen. We’ll know more about Colquitt after this Friday when they play TCC. Keep in mind Lowndes beat Thomas County Central 49-7 in the pre-season scrimmage game. It looks like Coffee and Tift are trying to finish 5th to keep from taking a playoff butt whooping.
Looking at this past week’s games, it looks like there are 10 or 11 really good teams in AAAAA, four in AAAA, and two each in AAA, AA and A.
I’d like to watch Buford, Peach County, or Tucker play NSWR, NG, PRidge, or Camden. That would be a slugfest like Byrnes and Hoover last week.
BTW, to respond to a previous post, Lowndes’ coach Randy McPherson called both Hoover and Byrnes and tried every way he could short of agreeing to travel both years, to schedule either or both for two years. In both cases we were told they had no interest in a 2 year home and home deal with us. We even offered to pay them to come to us two years in a row. Both refused. We were not interested in a one year deal, afraid we’d be stuck next year with only nine games.

Westminster is ranked #4 in AA. That doesn’t mean SPX shouldn’t be dropped, though. Perhaps we went soft on the Lions.

Can’t give you the exact number off the top of my head, but AAAAA is 1,900 students or more, and A is 525 or less. The other dividing lines are approximately 1450 and 1,000. If there is continued insterest in the exact borders, I’ll look them up. Classes AAAA, AAA, AA are divided to give the same number of schools in each (one-third, one-third, one-third), so the dividing line is not a set number each reclassification.

Have you people not read the stats from the 2 Colquitt County losses? Against Cook 235 more yards of offense than Cook. Turnovers, penalties, and mistakes kills. South Panola had 29 more yards than the Pack. Interceptions, fumbles, and mistakes bite you in the a@#. I wouldn’t count them out just yet. Remember Camden started out 1-2 last season.

The past 2 years that they opened up with Marist, they came out firing. Those 2 games were 2 of the biggest wins in their history. Being a former St. Pius student, I can say that they have a very prideful program, they want to prove themselves. They want to earn that ranking.

That is what they had ppredicted that Northside would do, is it not? Can’t wait to see you in the playoffs, wait you went back to AAAA. I guess if you can’t beat them, jump on another bandwagon and ride out. I think that Camden is better than a lot of folks think. They always seem to have something in store on game day. (They have two monsters wide receivers, and they run the spread pretty effectively. The real question for North P is there interior defensive line. They look really small and seems hopeful that someone else makes the tackle. They have a decent secondary, that will be making alot of downfield tackles against a good running team (aka EP).

Good point AVikingFan in terms of the Cats leaving those timeouts on the board and simply quitting on the fans last year. I also agree with you how fortunate we were with Tomberlin making it possible for our players to win those stronger, bigger, and faster awards. My opinion of Tomberlin is that his coaching skills ended in the weight room unfortunately for us. I do believe that our current head coach will prove to be Valdosta’s best hire. For some reason, I have total confidence in Gillespie as the guy who will take us back to the “promise land”. My suggestion to you viking fans is that you alll should stop looking in your rearview mirror so much because you alll could quite possibly end up in a terrible collision that will favor the Cats this year. Camden is the only team in 2-AAAAA that even qualifies for the classification. Everyone else is playing up. Camden has 2800 students while the next closest is 1000 short. I think that’s Bradwell, but I’d have to check.
Benedictine is considered a region football mate of Camden’s despite an ADA of 630. And with Benedictine that means that actually have 315 students since single-sex schools’ numbers are multiplied by two.
It’s a shame that there are no similarly sized opponents near Camden, but it’s also a shame the GHSA allows the Savannah schools to play up to this level. I think most of them would fit into AAA. They are competitive in basketball, but it’s rare that a school can be competitive at their size in football. And it’s quite evidence by the annual pastings the schools get, especially by Camden. What’s scary is that four of the teams in the region qualify for state.
That said, the GHSA has allowed massive travel in the past for region games (and I think they still waive the travel rule for region contests). Valdosta’s first foray in AAA saw them region mates with R.E. Lee of Thomaston. My alma mater, which is one county up from Valdosta, has spent various years as region mates with McIntosh County Academy, Camden, Brantley County, Charlton County, Randolph-Clay, Early County, Northside (Warner Robins), and Dudley Hughes of Macon.
If Camden wants to continue to have only a single public high school in the county, they need to face some repercussions as the GHSA needs to tell Chatham’s schools to cut it out and play at a level they can be competitive.

Dosta fan – I’ve been on here for about a month now talking about how good Valdosta is going to be this year, before any Cat backers spoke up. My gosh with 35 seniors who’ve been thru that weight training ought to be good.
We are playing McEachern and Tallahassee Leon this year, so that kinda evens our schedule up with Valdosta’s. And we played a very good South Gwinnett. Still if we happen to score first against ya’ll those 35 seniors who took that 57-15 butt whupping last year are gonna bow their heads and say here it comes again. I have been predicting a 3-way tie in our region for this year. That still looks good to me. (Our region tie breaker system is points allowed among playoff teams.) But what we are conmcerned about right now is that long trip to Powder Springs this coming Friday in Holiday weekend traffic to play what appears to be is a very good McEachern team.

Cannon I’m right here man. Just been a little bit busy. Great game this past Friday. EP’s defense allowed just 44 total yards against South Paulding, while gaining 326 against the South Paulding Defense. EP this year has a stable of backs who can get the job done no matter which one is in the game. The O-line needs a little work, but they eventually get it done later in the games. The QB for EP is a gamer, he has a strong arm is is pretty dang accurate, very smart also. The WR’s for EP aren’t your streaking downt he field type but they can catch and they run pretty darn good routes. Now for the defense. I’ve seen a few comments on here about EP’s defense not being all that. Well they did only allow south paulding to gain a total of 44 yards and they pitched a shut out, had a goal line stand, and they stopped a 3rd and inches conversion as well. The Front 4 on that D-line are very strong and quick, they are always in the backfield and making plays, Linebackers fill the gaps great, and protect the middle of the field. The Corners and safeties I do agree need to work a bit on not getting out of position against the pass, Our Safeties will just flat out come up and knock your socks off enough said there. Against Chapel Hill EP’s defense allowed that one TD early with Chapel hill slinging it down the field as much as they do. Then the Raider defense shut them down. Don’t say Chapel Hill doesnt’ have good WR’s because they do, They have two that are about 6′4 or 6′5 that can catch. Their QB can throw the ball as well, he just might be a bit on the short side. This is the best Team EP has had in a bout 2 years, they are very similar to the 2006 team.

At this point, I will give Lowndes the edge..they have athletic receivers and a solid RB coming out of their ears, but the QB is average at best….Valdosta has a questionable QB as well, which will really matter for a deep run. I think both programs are playing fairly decent non-region schedules with Florida, Alabama teams which will help them this year because Region15A is down a bit. Camden gets to ride easy on the region play, so why shouldn’t we for a change.

Since there aren’t other AAAAA schools in southeast Georgia for Camden County to play then why not divide Camden into two schools and play at the AA level. Gwinnett County schools are constantly sliced-n-diced into additional schools. Would put an end to the $%^&* that Camden gets away with while playing in a AA region.

If Miami Central thinks they are going to come to Kingston and plant a Florida flag, then they are going to be very unhappy with the results. It will be very tough for Camden to win both of these games against Florida teams. Camden is probably going to win at least one of those games due to sound preparation, size, speed, and outstanding coaching. But even if Camden loses both games they will learn some tough lessons that will only make them even tougher opponents in the GA playoffs. Go Camden!
I really like the progress being made by the program at Colllins Hill. I am not saying they will win their division, or even come in second, but they will make the playoffs, and they are going to put the smackdown on whoever they play in the first round.
I cannot even begin to imagine why Gainesville accepted a game against their relatively close neighbor Buford. All they could do is lose in that situatioln. If they win, it was expected because they are in a higher division, but if they lose it gives Buford a real edge in the “recruiting game” played by both teams as they raid players from neighboring public school districts. Buford is exactly the sort of lower division “tough team” who could beat almost anybody in the state on any given Friday. Here is a hint for all the armchair handicappers, “never bet against Buford”. This game was almost as stupid as South G going into the Cow Palace to play Lowndes.
Lowndes will get their only test of the season as they finally leave the comfort of their home stadium to play a real team at McEachern. What an awesome game that is going to be!
Mr. Carvel posted North as 1 – 0 because results from their Saturday beatdown against Bob Jones (AL) was reported later to GHSA who did not post the result to their site until after Carvel posted his rankings. AJC has subsequently updated the North record to 2 – 0, and their scrimmage win against Grayson simply does not count. Some North players have openly questioned why any player at Crenshaw would accept the nickname “Black Mamba” (an extremely poisonous snake). After looking at film of this one man wrecking crew on both sides of the ball, everyone agrees he can call himself whatever he wants. While North will probably lose this game, they will be a tougher opponent for the rest of the season. I doubt that North will be the pushover that Crenshaw expects.
Several teams will probably pay for Colquitt’s loss last weekend. The team already had talent and great coaching. Now they have character.
We are in for some very exciting football in the next few weeks. You just gotta love HS football in this state!

Wolverine2Blazer, Hiyer doing StepNeighbor-in-law? we are leaving Hahira at 1pm, going up I-75 to I-285 West, just past I-85 south we are exiting onto Hwy 6, cross over I-20 and then take Hwy 280 on into to Powder Springs. Is that the best way? Where is the stadium once we get to P. Spgs? It should be a good game. The last one we played there was. Our QB, who later played at VSU, ran a long TD on an option play late in the game to give us the win.

Also, Class AAAAA in Georgia is not the top 20 percent any more. It’s all schools with 1,900 or more students. Class A is all schools at 525 or below. The middle three are divided equally. Using the 1900 borderline, Class AAAAA is now only about the top 15 percent, maybe a little less. I’d argue that the top 20 in AAAA is about as good as AAAAA now simply because there are so many more teams in AAAA (roughly 90 vs. 60 in AAAAA).

Roswell will be very competitive in its region but will struggle to score points this year. Very good defensively but on offense the wr position is really down as the 3 starters against Collins Hill were a non-threat the entire game. I know its only high school, but it was painful to watch especially after last year when they had 3 D1 level wr’s. This week against Ptree Ridge will have to be a low scoring game for Roswell to have any chance to pull the upset.

To “dboy jones” that was a good beating put on SWD friday and I believe Tucker could beat several 5A teams but there is one thing that lingers for dekalb teams and that is a lack of state titles, and as good as Tucker has been over the years and for all the bashing that Stephensen, MLK , SWD and even Marist gets for lack of titles, Tucker is in dekalb also and is included in that group. Being the best team in the county is good but winning the State Title is the ultimate goal. Its cool to talk trash after beating county rivals, and Tucker should go 10-0 during regular season but if they fall short of the state title like dekalb teams have done too many times they will just have to settle for being one of the better teams in dekalb and thats where bragging rights should end.

Suwanee 0wnz: I agree with you about Collins Hill. North & P’Tree Ridge are still the class of Region 7, but I like Collins Hill & Norcross to take the other 2 slots. Lets not ridicule South for going to play @ Lowndes. I know P’tree Ridge played down there 2 years in a row & Grayson played Warner Robins in a home & home. The reason some teams do that is to prepare for playoffs as well as giving themselves a barometer on where their program stands. Look forward to the Battle of Suwanee in 2 weeks. Good to see Region 7 play every team now instead of having to miss one like the last 2 years.

RWDeKalb, I agree with your point about Dekalb County schools in that we all fall short when it comes to football state championship. Being a Dekalb County H.S. Football Alumnus (SWD 88-90) one of the best defenses in DeKalb History, one of the problems is that the talent is spreaded with the number of high schools in the area. Dboy Jones, congrats on your win it did show that you all was better prepared but knowing SWD like a do they will bounce back to what extent I don’t know we will have to see where everyone’s at the end of year. Thanks Coach Stephens for your gracious jesture by pulling your starters before it got out of hand hopefully we may return the jesture. Lastly future opponents can sleep on SWD if you want to but like any panther, when backed in a corner we got you where we want you and then we will pounce when you least expect and yes we have that Panther Pride!!!!

jag count – I commend you for supporting your team. That’s what it’s all about! Good luck this year. Sorry Tucker was so rough on you guys!
I am a Lowndes Viking supporter, and Valdosta is like MLK to Stephenson. In fact, Valdosta travels to MLK the week before they play us this year. (Gooooooo MLK!) With a lot of our fans it’s like we pull for Lowndes and ever who is playing Valdosta. Valdosta looks down on Lowndes and calls us farm boys and plow hands. They even gave us a nickname that we now are proud of – PLOWBOYS. It’s nice that we have beaten them 6 times in a row. Something no one else has ever done. We put 57 on’em last year and the game ended with us having 3 time outs and them 2. They quit and we coulda put more on the board. One year when Hyder was their coach they called timeout inside our ten yard line (West end of Cleveland Field) with 1:52 to go, leading 35-7, so they could score again – and did! (I might be off a little on the exact points.)
So yeah, we pull against them. But other than with them, I doubt you’ll ever see a Lowndes fan on one of the blogs putting down another school or team.

The reason I have N Gwinnett and not Tucker in, is because they’re playing top competition and they are winning those games. I’m really rooting for both Camden and N. Gwinnett this week. I am a big fan of Tucker, but if they were matched up against one of these teams I think they would lose. Don’t get me wrong I feel that in the future Tucker will be a state and national powerhouse, but not now. Sometimes you have to play out of the Atlanta area to prove yourself and get recognition. To the deservedly hopeful and optimistic Valdosta Fan who posts this year -
Greetings!
There is no town in Georgia that more lives or dies, watches it’s self-esteem soar or plummet, than Valdosta does with it’s Mildcats (shall we give them a “W” this year? – maybe). And there is no more miserable person when they are losing than a Wildcat fan and no more self-important or self-righteous group when they win.
Remember, you’re only a year removed from that colossal beat-down by your hated cross-town rival, Lowndes, and, potentially, a few weeks away from another one. Nevertheless, the good people of this State will stake you an experienced talent base and a coach who at least understands he’s never more than a beat-down away from coaching girl’s softball.
But the return of Hyder/Bazemore (or Bazemore/Hyder to you purists) or just more of that continuing slide into obscurity. We’ll see.
Best of luck ‘Cats. I hear Bobby Bowden’s available.
