Peach County jumps Sandy Creek to No. 1

First, let’s say there’s no shame in beating Whitewater in close game. Whitewater believes it has its most talented team yet this year. But Sandy Creek-Peach County was nearly a toss-up for the No. 1 ranking in preseason, and a 20-0 victory over Warner Robins is pretty convincing. So let’s put Peach County at No. 1. …

In other news, Georgia swept Alabama in the North Gwinnett double-header, with North Gwinnett and Grayson winning. Also note that Carrollton routed a pretty good Alabama team in Oxford. Eagle’s Landing Christian blew out Florida state champion North Florida Christian.

If not for South Panola hanging 65 points on Colquitt County, we’d have a full round of Georgia football breast-beating today.

I’m eager to see North Gwinnett vs. Crenshaw (Calif.) and Camden County vs. Central Miami (#2 team in USA Today) this week.

Here’s a wrapup of the changes in the rankings this week:

AAAAA – Collins Hill beat Roswell and took Roswell’s place in the Top 10.
AAAA – North Clayton back in, Warner Robins out.
AAA – Peach County jumps Sandy Creek. Carrollton and Ridgeland replace Washington County and Gainesville. St Pius drops five spots.
AA – Callaway replaces Hart County, which tied Franklin County in a lightning-shortened game.
A – Darlington and Holy Innocents’ replace Bowdon and Greenville.

I have to admit that secretly… I hope that Camden gets beat in the ground by Miami Central…

Also.. even though I was rooting for Peach County to put it to Warner Robins.. I don’t think that they deserved to drop completely out of the rankings…

But.. I honestly have nothing to complain about.. our Northside Eagles.. still look great and are sitting pretty on top.. =)

CannonRules: Don’t get too loud on here about our Raiders yet. They looked pretty good on offense against an over matched opponent in South Paulding. Defensively, against the run they look pretty decent, but they seemed extremely lost in the secondary. Open receivers all night that the QB could not get the ball too, or if he did, the receivers couldn’t seem to catch it. Very scary to see that many receivers running free. Also on the WR screen,,,,,,,giving them 8-10 yard cushions? What is that?,,,,,,,,,,I’m definitley a fan, but lets keep the bravado down until they’ve been tested. From what I’ve seen,,,North Paulding, will be able to throw the ball all over the field on our Raiders with there two D1 wideouts and Sr QB who can both throw the ball and run when needed. Temper that enthusiasm.

Its important to understand that TUCKER pulled its starters midway through the 2nd quarter and the score was 50-6. SWD didn’t get a first down until the 2nd team D was in. SWD haven’t gave up more than 50 points in Coach Bucks career, and if I our starters wasn’t pulled it would have gotten real ugly.

Miami. Camden has evolved into a fine program with excellent
coaching. But, I am here to tell you, the Swagger is back in
Valdosta, unlike I have seen since Bazemore-Hyder days.
We are playing two defending out of state champions, Lincoln
from Tallahassee, and Robert E. Lee from Montgomery. I
guess we will find out what we have, but I am excited about
our new coaching staff which we have suffered for at least
ten years.

Where is all the SWD fans at today? All that talk in the off season now silence. LOLOLOL. Tucker has been powerhouse as far as Dekalb co public schools the last 10 years but SWD has been the egnigma because of past success. Buck is done but he is like Joe Pa is to Penn State. We showed them who dominates Dekalb. We could have hung 100 points on them if we didnt pull the starters in the 2nd quarter. 50-6 at halftime. LOLOL. I dont ever want to see a SWD fan on this blog ever again. You guys ought to be a shame of your selves. Anyway that is just one game and we got Marist this week! Marist we are out for redemption. Even tho we won state 2 season ago against Marist they have beat us in the regular season the last 2 years wit a combine total score of 70-7. We will not take it light against Marist look for another conviencing win this week. This Tucker team is SPECIAL!!

Not exactly Antball. Some higher classified teams are weak and some lower classified teams are strong. For instance Washington County (A I believe) and Fitzgerald (AA) can play with the AAA and AAAA schools. The classification is by student population but the teams are still determined by the athletes on it. A 400 sized school may have as good or better athletes than a 4,000 sized school…

‘’I really don’t feel that Warner Robins (AAAA) should have been dropped out tof the top 10 completely. This years Peach squad ( AAA) with the talent they have this year 19 returnees from their 2009 championship squad ,will go 15-0 and would defeat the majority of your top 10 teams in AAAA and AAAAA ……… I guess the reason the Demons dropped out was due to a loss to a squad from a lower class , If so , why is St Pius still ranked after losing to Westminster?’’

Good question, Reeze. Just consider that Warner Robins was shut out and didn’t come close to winning. The SPX-Westminster game went down to the final minute.

“Worth County should be # 10 in AAA. They beat Fitzgerald 32-26 who previously had beaten the defending AA champs Wilcox County and Tift County (AAAA power).”

Maybe so. But I’d be more inclined to drop Fitzgerald from the AA Top 10 than add Worth to the AAA Top 10. Great win for Worth, though.

‘’Where is Bremen in the A rankings? They are 2-0, have beaten (decisively) 2 AAA schools! Where is the respect!’’

Bremen is getting close.

“Regarding North Gwinnett – are you saying Bob Jones wasn’t considered a regular season game? Wow.”

The scrimmage that Bob Jones and North Gwinnett played a year or two ago was not a regular-season game. The game played Saturday was. This year’s North Gwinnett-Grayson game was a scrimmage and not a regular-season game. We had NG’s record wrong at 1-0 and not 2-0 because we neglected to update it with the Saturday games, but it’s fixed now.

“If Jefferson Co beat Washington Co,who is in a bigger class n they were ranked 5…dont that mean Jeff Co should be ranked? Dont base everything n rankings on having a “super11″ player AJC! They lost a great one n BJ Bostic last yr but they still full of talent.”

I agree, but JeffCo didn’t beat WaCo. They tied.

First, I have not seen Carver Columbus play and being a Brookwood fan and in Gwinnett, I am definitely biased and can not see any team in Buford’s classification staying with 2 td’s of them so I would have to say it will be about Buford 40 and Carver Columbus 26 (maybe I will get a chance to see Carver Columbus play at some point which could change my opinion). Regarding North Gwinnett vs. Crenshaw, I have been out west visiting relatives and seen some teams out there and they have speed. Should be an interesting game. I will be pulling for both North Gwinnett and Camden. I would love to see Camden play some tough competition in state but it is what it is. They could play teams whose overall record is 0-110, but when all is said and done Camden does still win the big games against strong teams both in and out of state. So I can’t hold it against them for what the rest of their region does. I’m looking forward to Brookwood vs. Collins Hills. I don’t see many teams in region 7 5A play, but have seen Peachtree Ridge and North Gwinnett over the past 3 or 4 years and have been thoroughly impressed. Lowdnes as usual still looks very strong. I’m looking forward to seeing other teams play in the Metro area, including Newnan.

Glad to see you back this year also (where is COWBELL?)

Oh I agree one game DOES NOT A SEASON MAKE…BUT…the boys looked good against Chapel Hill in the scrimmage game, then won the opener with the “D” shutting down South Paulding…and the score could have been even larger if we had the TD back the penalty took from us.

I also noticed the open receivers but I think the coaches will get that corrected as the season goes forward. I thought we had a “decent” home opener and from what North Paulding did to Paulding County we should be OK for this week vs. Paulding County.

Then we get Douglas County who just loss to Hiram 24 / 0 so with a bit of luck the RAIDERS could be 3 & 0 heading to the game vs. KELL (who beat Grayson) Win that one and THEN that’s when I was saying it would be time for a bit of AJC recognition, SOOOOOOOOOOOO…

I think I’ll still stay EXCITED right now………

Can someone give the exact number of students a school has to have to be placed in one of the 5 classifications. For example I have heard that 1850 and higher is 5A. And the max to be A is 525. What are the numbers for 2A, 3A and 4A?

HeadEast

RealisticEP – Good review. East has a strong-armed QB and some speed but the D, despite the shutout, gave up some yards (saved by fumble on their 3). They should benefit from a couple more soft opponents early then Kell. This may be a playoff team but that’s about all. BTW, It would be more accurate to say Grayson lost to Kell rather than Kell beat them. Grayson beat themselves with turnovers in a game they were domninating.

Regarding Camdem Co and the region they play in, I think it is a wash. They do play some over matched teams and benefit by not getting beat up too badly and getting all of their players quality playing time. The flip side of that is that it is tough to prepare for the stronger competition and the physical demands of the bigger teams. They wind up having to play the first team longer and they might not be as physically durable.

In any event, they play where they play and it makes total sense when you look at the complete athletics picture. They have quality programs and strong support as evidenced by how well they travel.

kb, your 2:15pm post is probably right on the mark. VSU played a part in the TitleTown thing also, but it was mainly all those titles won by your Cats. It will be interesting to see what ya’ll do with those 35 seniors Rick Tomberlin won all those Bigger, Faster, Stonger contests with. Right now though, all I can see is that score board from last year, ya’ll losing 57-15 with Valdosta walking off the field without using their timeouts! Your mighty Cats left 4 time outs on the board in both halves combined and got beat. That said “No MAS!” They quit!

Before the season started I predicted 1-AAAAA would end in a 3 way tie for 1st place. It can still happen. We’ll know more about Colquitt after this Friday when they play TCC. Keep in mind Lowndes beat Thomas County Central 49-7 in the pre-season scrimmage game. It looks like Coffee and Tift are trying to finish 5th to keep from taking a playoff butt whooping.

Looking at this past week’s games, it looks like there are 10 or 11 really good teams in AAAAA, four in AAAA, and two each in AAA, AA and A.

I’d like to watch Buford, Peach County, or Tucker play NSWR, NG, PRidge, or Camden. That would be a slugfest like Byrnes and Hoover last week.

BTW, to respond to a previous post, Lowndes’ coach Randy McPherson called both Hoover and Byrnes and tried every way he could short of agreeing to travel both years, to schedule either or both for two years. In both cases we were told they had no interest in a 2 year home and home deal with us. We even offered to pay them to come to us two years in a row. Both refused. We were not interested in a one year deal, afraid we’d be stuck next year with only nine games.

Cairo returns pretty much the same team that went 3 rounds in the playoffs. The defense alone is enough to repeat this feat. #3 in the AJC poll is a GREAT quiet spot for this young and VERY talented team. They were call “average” last season, Now what do you call them. they are loaded with JRs.

“HOW!!! is St.Pius still ranked in the top 10 after losing to an unranked Westminster team??????”

Westminster is ranked #4 in AA. That doesn’t mean SPX shouldn’t be dropped, though. Perhaps we went soft on the Lions.

“Can someone give the exact number of students a school has to have to be placed in one of the 5 classifications. For example I have heard that 1850 and higher is 5A. And the max to be A is 525. What are the numbers for 2A, 3A and 4A?”

Can’t give you the exact number off the top of my head, but AAAAA is 1,900 students or more, and A is 525 or less. The other dividing lines are approximately 1450 and 1,000. If there is continued insterest in the exact borders, I’ll look them up. Classes AAAA, AAA, AA are divided to give the same number of schools in each (one-third, one-third, one-third), so the dividing line is not a set number each reclassification.

Have you people not read the stats from the 2 Colquitt County losses? Against Cook 235 more yards of offense than Cook. Turnovers, penalties, and mistakes kills. South Panola had 29 more yards than the Pack. Interceptions, fumbles, and mistakes bite you in the a@#. I wouldn’t count them out just yet. Remember Camden started out 1-2 last season.

The past 2 years that they opened up with Marist, they came out firing. Those 2 games were 2 of the biggest wins in their history. I guess if you can’t beat them, jump on another bandwagon and ride out. I think that Camden is better than a lot of folks think. They always seem to have something in store on game day. Gannon Rules: I’ll remain optomistic also. As a parent in between kids (one graduated EP), the other bound for North P in two years, I’m keeping an eye on what’s being built up that way also. (They have two monsters wide receivers, and they run the spread pretty effectively. The real question for North P is there interior defensive line. They look really small and seems hopeful that someone else makes the tackle. They have a decent secondary, that will be making alot of downfield tackles against a good running team (aka EP).

I to think going into Kell our Raiders will be 3-0. I’ve not seen Kell. Should be a fun year.
